So i've tried different ways of doing it...
- rooted using "All in one solution by Mikevhl"
- download and installed xRecovery 0.3
- rebooted and spam BACK when SE letter comes up, nothing happened.
- Reset back to factory
- rooted the same way
- download BusyBox from Market, installed ans symlink the latest 1.19 BusyBox
- installed xRecovery 0.3
- rebooted, again, spamming BACK and nothing happen
I've tried having the USB cable plugged in, and unplugged. Both way give me the same thing... What else am i missing? UGH...
let me share what i did
after rooting... i downloaded the xrecovery rar file from here
then i downloaded Titanium backup from the market. Once installed i clicked "Problems?" on that app and it downloaded busybox
after busybox installed i then unpacked the xrecovery on my pc. it contains three files (chargemon busybox and xrecovery.zip)
i copied those three to my SD card.
On my phone i opened root explorer, opened sd card and selected those three files then clicked MOVE
set root explorer to mount R/W then go to system/bin and paste the three files there.
reboot and keep pressing the back key once the SE white logo apprears. VIOLA!
"spamming" the back button didnt work for me. you have to press it once every second.

Dude try to install busy-box from Titanium Backup..And then use the files which i uploaded below and use them instead of files u got from the xRecovery thread....Do the steps as same as written on thread, but use my file...You'll see it soon!!!!
Hi you can use the flash tool for x10 mini, first root and it will automatically restart, then press ask for permissions, the the xrecovery button becomes avaible and finally press it . Just dont press the optimize button coz it's intended to jit the big xperia with v2 jit, if you press it your device will be stuck in an infinite loop and never get out of that without removing the battery cable inside your phone

I will try it tonight, but also faced another problem, after i re-mount it with RW, if i reboot, everything goes back to RO. I try to locate the equivalent of /etc/fstab in the android but i couldn't find it.
Does your phone's file-system permission stick after reboot?
Are you guys all using the 0.1 beta or the latest 0.3 releases?
Beware of the market busybox, I updated mine to .19 and it caused major problems.
I was using MiniCM, installed the market busybox and the phone looped. Also, when I was using Srom, I uninstalled some system apps (the usual stuff I don't use) and the phone rebooted and I lost my root... which meant that I couldn't get into recovery.
So maybe try pratyush_gamer's idea, should work, his knowledge has helped me!!
Still no go, tried titanium backup's busybox, tried to manually copy and paste those 3 files, tried to delete those 3 files and reinstall the xRecovery package...
I'm running 2.1.1.A.0.6 and Kernel 2.6.29 SEMCHost#1
Should i downgrade or something?
Did you upgrade using the below method? I'd and it worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947290
I didn't do the manual recovery thing, I downloaded Bin4ry's flash tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455
It does everything for you root, flashing, JIT, recovery and remove system apps. Suggest you check it out.
These are the methods I used, let me know if it works
Oh and don't worry about the optimize button, it works fine on the mini. If you download the X10 version it might loop after JIT but theres a mini version too.

I download the flashtool before, and the firmware, but when i select Flash, it never let me select the Sony Ericsson X10i_2.1.A.435_GLOBAL-GGL GENERIC 1232-9897.zip nor the extracted ftf file...
What I did is replace my build.prop (the one sitting in /system) with the one pedrocel85 provided, rebooted, connected my phone to SEUS and did the upgrade the normal way through SEUS and then did the JIT, recovery etc. modding afterwards with flasher. So I haven't used the "flashing" capability of the tool and can't tell you much about the firmware side.
Check your basebrand: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015, maybe that could be the problem.
Do you have SEUS installed on your PC? If not, get it off of the SE website try replace the build.prop, reboot and follow the SEUS steps.
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...eserviceapplication/xperiax10mini?cc=gb&lc=en
You will end up with the exact firmware that I have.
Good luck
Same issue here
I have the fresh newest firmware from SE. The 3 Xrecovery files are installed in the bin folder.
I did follow all the steps and can't get the recovery mode.
I've tried for hours different ways. It just does not work. I gave up. If there is a new release I will try.

It said "No new software is available for your phone"... I already have the latest firmware.
OK. I've re-format my SD card, reset to factory setting AGAIN. (however, is weird, the build.prop that i put in earlier is still there)
So i downloaded:
- xRecovery 1.0 beta (i read that the 2.0 and 3.0 doesn't work
- install busybox 1.15.2
- install RootExplorer and copied the xRecovery files to system/bin
- chmod 777 all the files
Reboot nothing happen...
- copy paste the xRecovery files into system/xbin (desperately trying to get this **** to work)
Reboot... nothing happen. i was spamming the back button the whole time. I've seen some youtube video, people spam it and the xRecovery menu come up within like half a second after the SE logo come out...
This thing won't go into the xRecovery at all. I'm completely out of idea... If anyone else have any other new tricks, please let me know.
Fixed. Went to redownload another FlasherTool, using the non-beta v2.8.0
- Hit Root, Reboot
- Hit Ask Root Perms
- Optimize (maybe this is optional, but i was trying it out and hit it)
- Hit xRecovery
- Advanced -> xRecovery -> Reboot into xRecovery.
Awesome, thought the flasher would work!
Enjoy!!

Try Bin4ry's flasher tool
It works
It works, Xrecovery is now installed.
The steps I have followed :
- First, I installed the latest firmware from SE : Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6 SE firmware because I just got a new Xperia Mini I'm upgrading to MiniCM6.
- I have downloaded the 3 files given by pratyush_gamer in this post (post No4)
- Upload these 3 files in the SD card
- Using rootexplorerthe 3 files were copy/paste in the system/bin
- Restart the phone while pressing the "back" button.
Many thanks for your help

Are you hitting the back key repeatedly as soon as you see the SE logo? If you are and its still not working try Bin4ry's flash tool 0.9.2.1 and under one of the options menus, not sure which, select "boot into recovery".
Let me know if this helps

Thnaks buddy for the wonderful tips......
To stop all those questions about how to install one of the pre rooted 2.3.3 ROMs properly I decided to make this HOW-TO to keep the threads clear.
INGREDIENTS:
All you need is:
1 Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 device
1 Computer
PREPERATIONS:
At the moment, there is NO method to root your X10 after you have installed 2.3.3. So if you installed 2.3.3 via SEUS, PCC oder Flashtool the first step you have to do is to get a rooted stock 2.1 ROM on your device. To avoid errors I would recommend this step to everyone
INSTALL 2.1, root it and install xRecovery:
Get the newest Flashtool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746&highlight=flashtool
Get one of the stock 2.1 ROMS (same thread as flashtool)
Extract the ROM-file to your Flashtool/firmware folder
Start flashtool
Click on "Flash" and select the firmware you just downloaded
Click OK
Turn off your device
Connect cable to PC NOT TO YOUR X10
Press Back-Button on your X10 and connect cable
Wait flashtool to finish
After that, turn on phone and activate "Unknown sources" and "USB-Debugging" under Application-Settings
Hit "Root" in flashtool
Wait for flashtool to finish and X10 to reboot
After reboot hit "Ask root permissions" in flashtool and select allow on you X10 (a popup will appear)
Hit "xrecovery" in flashtool
GETTING ROOTED 2.3.3 ON YOUR DEVICE:
First of all, you have to download the ROM you wish to install. This step should be clear, but you never know . Every of those ROMs comes in 2 parts. 1 update.zip and 1 kernel+baseband file for flashtool.
Copy the update.zip (name can be different!!) to your X10s SDcard
Reboot X10 into xRecovery (Keep hitting Back-button while X10 restarts)
Select "Factory Reset"
Select "Wipe Cache Partition"
Select "Advanced options" -> "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Select "Install custom zip" and select the zipfile you copied to your SDCard
Wait for xRecovery to finish
After that, DONT REBOOT OR DO ANYTHING, JUST REMOVE ANY CONNECTED CABLE AND REMOVE BATTERY TO TURN OF PHONE
EXTRACT the kernel+baseband-File into flashtools firmware folder
Hit "Flash" in flashtool and select the copied kernel+baseband
Now insert battery again (make sure no cable is connected. Otherwise the phone will start into charging mode and you have to start again)
Press Back-button and connect cable
Wait for flashtool to finish
Start X10 and enjoy your rooted 2.3.3!
Hope this helps

Doh!! I hadnt unpacked the bundle with winrar so flash obviously wouldnt work!!
Hi, i have a noob question:
I'm now on official 2.1 update 1 and rooted with Z4root a while ago.
When i start this tutorial, do i have to unroot first so i can root again with the above method or can i just start from step 1?
I think you can just start with installing xrecovery.
Ok, I started the tutorial and installed xrecovery with flashtool. But when i get to the step to select the update.zip file on my sd card, it says the card is not accessable. So i Restored my phone and booted it up to check if i can check my sd card via astro, everything works just fine. So i Started the tutorial all over, even reinstalled xrecovery and rooted again. I did this already 4 times now ,but still the same problem in recovery, what do i have to do ta access the sd card with the update on it in xrecovery?
Thanks

How long does the process of restoring back to stock 2.1 take? I've been waiting 10min and its stuck on "flashing loader" I'm getting scared....
You forgot to mention ONE important step: having SEUS installed in order to have flashing driver required for flashtool.
question here,
i was using stock 2.3 last couple of day, yesterday i decided to flash custom rom so i followed this thread's guide. however how i stuck at stock rom 2.1 because i can't gain root access! this is weird i been using flashtool and z4root none of them giving me root access. anybody have any idea what's this problem?
thanks in advance!
Hello,
First I want to thank all xda-developers for their work!
They do even better work then the providers!
Question 1:
Well my question is that I want to flash my SE Xperia X10 Mini.
I already unlocked the bootloader with the following guide:
Link 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Although now I want to flash the kernel.
In the thread (link 1) stands how to flash the kernel.
But also in the following thread of the ROM that I want to install after worths:
Link 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068553
Link 1 says that I don't must flash any .sin files.
Although link 2 says I need to flash the kernel.sin and the loader.sin.
This getting me confused, now I don't know what I need to follow?
Question 2:
Also at the link 1 it talks about a .ftf file that I can't find.
Where can I find that?
Question 3:
In link 2 when i download the ROM I get a file called "A MiniCM7-2.1.1_nAa-kernel02.7z".
So it says it got a kernel inside (I guess thats the .ftf file) but I can't find it inside it.
Anybody knows where I could find that?
Thanks in advance.
Greetz,
Jan2426
I think you have wrong link to get custom kernel, find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256739 see instal guide, there the link kernel ftf file.
Before flash that kernel you must flash the ROM in Link 2.
to flash custom kernel you must download ftf file if you had zip, extract and you will get ftf and put that in folder flashtool/firmware, and you can see there 2 file.sin in there from flashtool.
If i can help you don't forget to press thanks button.
Thanks for your quick response!
U helped me to the right direction already.
Although i still have a question left.
Question 1:
To flash the ROM I just need to copy it to the root of the SD-card?
Thanks in advance.
Greetz,
Jan2426
Copy Rom ( *.zip) to the SD Card ,
in the ClockworkMod choose option
- install zip from sdcard then
- choose zip from sdcard then
find file with ROM and apply
VOILA
of course I assume that you have ClockworworkMod installed

Yes,
1. Copy ROM to sd card
2. boot in CWM recovery
3. Wipe Data/factory reset
4. wipe cache partition
5. advance>wipe dalvik cache
6. instal zip from sd card and chose ROM.
don,t forget to backup your file first.
and now you can flash the kernel.
Thanks both for your answers.
Yes I installed ROM manager.
Although stiv8785 you say I first need to follow these steps and then flash:
1. Copy ROM to sd card
2. boot in CWM recovery
3. Wipe Data/factory reset
4. wipe cache partition
5. advance>wipe dalvik cache

EDIT:
At the moment I wanted to flash my phone I am still confused (sorry guys for my slow understanding).
To flash it by this following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256739
He says:
Flash the kernel via Flashtool

Although that gives me to less details how to flash is correctly.
On the following link there is more details about it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068553
He says:
Flash the nAa kernel using Flashtool. To to this:
- Turn off your phone
- Start the Flashtool\X10FlashTool.exe and select Flash. Then select the E10_nAaxxx kernel firmware (this flashes both the kernel.sin and the loader.sin)
- Keep the back button pressed while connecting the usb cable. Flashtool should detect your phone and flash the kernel.
- Once done, disconnect the usb cable and power on the phone.
Click to collapse
And the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Says this:
Generally you have to delete all the files in /system/lib/modules before flashing a custom kernel!
c. Put the (kernel name).ftf file in the /firmwares folder. (Don't flash any .sin files, flash only the .ftf file.)
d. Open Flashtool.
e. Click Flash.
f. Select (kernel name).ftf.
g. Turn off your phone.
h. Connect your phone in flash mode (only when the popup window prompts for you to do so). (To boot into flash mode, press and hold back button while connecting your phone to the PC using an usb cable).
i. Disconnect your phone (do so only when the popup window to prompts you to disconnect your phone).
j. Reboot and you have a custom kernel!
k. Confirm by going to Settings --> About Phone --> Kernel version. It should have the name of the kernel you flashed.
m. To flash back to stock kernel, download the appropriate file below and follow steps listed above.

Which one is the best to follow for my SE Xperia X10 Mini (E10i)?
Steps I already have taken:
1. Unlock the bootloader.
2. Install FlashTool v0.2.9.1 beta.
3. Put the .ftf file into the following folder: /firmwares.
4. Put the custom ROM (the .zip file) into the root of my SD card.
So far all successful.
sorry, maybe because I use the Mini Pro not mini.
Please follow the instructions in the ROM thread, I think everything is clear.
and all the materials you prepare is correct, good luck
No problem
And thanks again I will follow that guide now.
I am charging my mobile now to 100% now before I start.
Although I installed ROM manager but didn't do anything with it yet.
Should I do something with it before flashing or?
I have totally no experience with the ROM manager.
Anybody could give a short guide how to use the ROM manager and where it's good for?
I am sorry I keep asking questions but I am a bit nervous about flashing my mobile.
I don't want to brick it hehe
EDIT:
Do I need to delete all files in "/system/lib/modules" before flashing?
There is only the following items in it:
sdio.ko
tiwlan_drv.ko

Have you installed the Recovery CWM?
You don't need ROM manager.
No need to remove the module, if the ROM is compatible with a custom kernel.
At this following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068553
or:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225
Stands nothing from Recovery CWM.
Do I then still need to install it?
Also if I need to do I need to install it before or after flashing the kernel?
Or is it included by flashing the kernel?
EDIT:
I notice that I keep getting in a circle of keep asking questions.
I will try to break this circle with the following.
Tell me how far it's done:
- Good.
- Bad.
- What else need to be done.
- What need to be changed.
I'm sorry that I keep asking these questions, but like I said before I am getting bit nervous about flashing my phone.
Although I want to do it because SE stopped with giving us updates and I am stuck with 2.1-update1
Step 1: Root phone (done successful).
Step 2: Unlock bootloader (done successful).
Step 3: Flash kernel (not done).
Step 3a: Turn off your phone
Step 3b: Start the Flashtool\X10FlashTool.exe and select Flash. Then select the E10_nAaxxx kernel firmware (this flashes both the kernel.sin and the loader.sin)
Step 3c: Keep the back button pressed while connecting the usb cable. Flashtool should detect your phone and flash the kernel.
Step 3e: Once done, disconnect the usb cable and power on the phone.
Step 4: Install Recovery CWM (not done).
Step 4a: Don't know what to do here?
Do i need to install it actually?
NOTE:I also heard something about Busybox, but I don't know much about that either and is it needed?
Short explanation about the colors:
Green: done successful
Orange: I think it's the right way to do not sure and not done.
Red: I am confused and don't know what to do.
Thanks in advance.
Greetz,
Jan2426
GOOD
Make sure has been successful flash custom kernel:
go to settings> about phone and see if the kernel version is 2.6.29 SEMCUser @ SEMCHost # 1 you have not succeeded. but if his version is compatible with the kernel name or initials, you've managed to flash a custom kernel.
I read the thread nAa kernel, CWM recovery already in the kernel. to be sure reboot the phone, wait a moment will live on and the screen appeared an image or text first on press back button. iff you in to the recovery menu (for navigation, home to select).
please proceed to the next step in ROM instalation guide.
So I can untill ROM manager and busybox from my mobile?
They are not needed?

I guess I will keep ROM manager on my phone for now.
Although I got one last question (I hope ).
How do I backup my ROM that I use now (the standard thats on every SE X10 Mini)?
So if something goes wrong that I still got a backup.

Backup with CWM Recovery :
1. boot in cwm recovery
2. chose backup & restore
3. then backup
I just flashed my phone.
I only got INFO messages, no errors.
The following messages came thruw:
Start Flashing
Flashign loader
Flashing kernel.sin
flashing finished.
Now unplug the device and power it on.
Then go to application settings.
turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging.
Although I can enter the boot menu by pressing the back button on the mobile, when the distorterd boot logo comes on.
Only now he keeps repeating the SE intro short movie.
Although he gots a lot of lag.
What to do?

Just search in development section for a rom for your phone you like. There will be installation instructions and a kernel to flash.
Make sure battery status is more than 75%, best 100%
1. Download the zip to install the rom and copy it to your sd card. Download the kernel (make sure the right one for your device),too.
2. Download sony flashtool and install it.
3. Open flashtool and click on the flash, select "fastboot mode" and choose "select kernel to flash". Now put your phone in fastboot mode (hold volume up while connecting to pc, blue led will turn on)
4. Select the kernel you have downloaded from the thread of the rom. It should be named boot.img. Flashtool will automaticly flash it.
5. SEE THE LOG FOR ERRORS. IF THERE ARE NO ERRORS/BAD BLOCKS, CONTINUE!
6. Unplug device and restart. Press volume down again and again.
7. Look in the forum thread, what has to be wiped/formatted (for example /system or /data or just do a factory reset).
8. Select "install zip from sd card" -> "choose zip" -> choose the installation zip you put on your sd card. and click yes.
9. Just let it install, don't pull battery, because you think it stucks.
(9.1) If there is an aroma installer, you will have to choose your device (volume up or down to navigate) and home button to select. If required select unlocked bootloader.
(9.2) If there were any fixes on the thread, just flash them, too. For that you had to put on sd card before starting everything!
10. Reboot and enjoy
Hope it helps
I know you people all like these easy questions which get your thanks meter up boosting your ego, but these posts should not be endorsed!
someguyfromhell made THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 post, which is called TUTORIAL, FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND FIRST AID, and so it wouldn't get lost made a sticky which is the first thing you read when you open this section of the forum.
Honestly, did you even bother stopping by and reading before opening a useless thread?
Please please please stop endorsing posts like "which rom should i flash on my xx", or "how do i root my phone", it's all been said and done and opening up all these threads just gets people lost when searching for an actual problem.
Kthxby.
