Hello.
I'm building myself a ROM (for personal use for now) and I've included GO Launcher EX and GO SMS.
I want to have them preconfigured the way I always configure them and I really do not have any clue on how to do that and I have not been able to find any information about it.
Using dsixda's kitchen and I'm using charnsingh_online's CM7 Unofficial Nightlies as a base.
So, my question is, how are these settings stored, and how do I define which apps/widgets/whatever are placed on the screens in GO Launcher, and selecting themes etc etc?
I'd be really grateful for any type of answer that can lead me to my goal
If you mean how to restore their settings after a flash:
Wild guess, but the application storage is under /data/data then the application folder com.android."gosms" (at a guess for the actual folder name).
I don't know if you could have a script push the contents of this folder back to that location each time you flash the ROM?
If you mean how to have them configured the way you want every time you install them:
Same as above, copy the folder back - or use backup software, I use MyBackup Pro.
Additionaly I used LauncherPro and it simply cannot restore Android widgets, they show as a placeholder only and you have to reselect them all.

I want to have them configured everytime the ROM is flashed, and if the widgets are included in the ROM shouldn't they show up as supposed to?

Ok, copy the folder from /data/data and cook it into your ROM.
I just thought i'd mention that the 3rd party launcher I use can only restore its own widgets (SMS, Facebook) and my main home screen (Sense clock, 3rd party audio, audio guru & power control) cannot be restored. The placeholders show but the widgets have to be deleted and re-set.
I have not been able to get it to work... Will continue to try to figure it out, but nothing has been as expected yet.
When you say copy the dikes and cook them into the rom, are you meaning to change our the files in the launcher with the ones from data/data?

I don't understand the question, sorry.
in configuration you mean 'checkboxes' , i assume.
i think you may change this settings in 'apk manager' and than get tham back to the rom(zip), sign, and flash.
wait, this is android,hd2 is not WM?

Pretty simple question, i want to upgrade to the latest build by mik. Will this basically wipe everything that isnt on my SD card ? i.e. everything on my desktop, all my settings, all my apps etc.
thanks.
Yes, you will have to wipe everything...
If you want, you can backup your data with apps like "Titanium Backup" or something like those...
U will lost all ur settings,sms,contacts,apps..nd u will lost ur data in sd bcoz u hv to do partition for aps2sd..Its recommrnded to do backup of all ur apps, contacts, sms, nandroid before flashing
oh ok. so ill install apps2sd, move all my apps across, backup contacts and what i can with titanium , flash.
what is this google sync business with contacts ??
so i just flashed to the latest, and its booted back in, and everything is still on my desktop ? like nothing got erased.
i did a full batch titanium backup. did it automatically restore everthing ? even my desktop settings ?? im lost

Haha so luckily you got me and my patience on your thread lol and you questions are simple yeah but not short to answer!
For your question, yes! flashing any rom will exactly wipe EVERYTHING on your phone.
BUT IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM OLDER VERSIONS OF MIK'S 2.3 ROM, it will NOT wipe anything except your google/facebook accounts information.
By the way, for the manual action of "wiping", it depends what android version you are at.
If you are using Froyo 2.2 NOW, yes wipe everything on the list of your custom recovery.
If you are using Gingerbread 2.3 NOW, then you dont have to wipe anything except [cache] and [dalvik cache]. <- You must wipe these two!

I dont get what you mean by "install apps2sd". But whatever you shouldn't do that before flashing a rom. If you mean the Non-froyo App2SD+ (What the hell is non-froyo a2sd?), you should flash it AFTER you have flashed the rom in order to let it activate in the new rom.
Yes. backup all the things with titanium is necessary.
For the google contacts syncing. It is a service provided by Google and it is for you to sync the contacts between your Gmail and your phone. So you can view all your contacts anywhere. You can sync your contacts to gmail and then after rom flashing, the contacts are gone. Simply login back to gmail with the newly flashed rom and then click auto-sync. All of your contacts will be back after a couple of minutes.
But remember one extra point, its sort of a new feature in gingerbread but BE SURE TO UNTICK THE OPTION OF "BACKUP MY DATA ETC TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNT" after you login your gmail with android 2.3. Why? It actually doesn't backup your data (well for me, i couldnt see it anywhere) but DUPLICATES YOUR MESSAGES WITH NO REASON!

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.2 FROYO
NO. After you flash, every single thing will be GONE COMPLETELY. You will have to perform a titanium batch restore to get everything back in order.
IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD (older versions of mik's rom)
Then Yes everything is still on your "desktop" (I think you meant launcher) and ALL SETTINGS WILL REMAIN. However in some cases, home screen widgets will have problems and you will have to place them again. Information in widgets (such as your city for weather widgets, your to-do-list widgets) are NOT BE ABLE TO BACK UP USING TITANIUM OR ANY OTHER METHODS. So make sure you have written down what you have wrote in your widgets!
And finally if you have missed or made mistakes in any step, dont panic! You can always restore your phone back with KDZ UPDATER (Picture guide in this link)!
And when you are using mik's rom, and you would like to have a try on franco.Kernel which provides excellent performance, dont forget to discuss them in the thread The fantastic combination of mik_os' CM7 and franco.Kernel!!
Hope I was clear enough and if any parts of my post have helped you, dont forget to hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post
Good luck! Happy playing with mik's roms!
Thanks alot, makes it clearer.
I will definitely put francos kernel on, the phone still could do with some imporvement in performance.
next thing i need to learn about is the launcher. is it essentially just the UI ?

erm for the launcher its totally simple - ur phone can have multiple launchers, but you usually only use one. and they gives you the app drawer and some screens for you to place your shortcuts and widgets. how are they? what are their performances? differ on different launchers. they all can simple be found on the market, and after installation you will be able to choose the one you want to use, by clicking the home button.
ADW launcher and Launcher Pro being the most famous ones and you may try GO Launcher as some people are using and appreciating it too.
new users if i have given some help you know what to do and happy androiding.
I'm currently running Eclipse 0.2.2 and am trying to reinstall the dlna application that came with the phone, but can't (using my titanium backup er... Backup). Are there any alternative apps that do the same thing, or is there a way to reinstall the stock dlna app? Thanks.
(I've tried a couple from the market but none of them can find my Tversity server)

Go here http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/27237-droid-x2-system-dump.html
Download the system dump zip.
Go into zip using root explorer( if I don't have it I recommend buying it its worth it)
go to system folder
go to app folder
Extract all DLNA apks and odex(s)
Go to extracted folder and select the files u just extracted
Move them to your system/app folder after u mount system as r/w using burton on top of root explorer screen.
Remount as r/o then reboot..it should be available now.
good luck
This should also work for other apks. I have been looking for a gingerbread dump if anyone could post that that would be great although I have had no problems installing any of these apks I've tried. Did the music camera toggle widgets etc and all worked no problems.
I will get you guys some of the stock apps and zip them up so they can be flashed.

i rooted my phone and install cm9 then i want to move all my internal stuff into my system rom but is already 6mb out of 200mb how do i clean it up?
Use titanium backup
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
using it
i want to know that format system in recovery formats the internal or system rom.
Cause the first time i use titanium backup i move everything on the rom on the stock version then i keep on doing that cause my phone goes bricked cause of uninstalling the wrong things that causes my phone. Then i finally got it running but somehow i use every format in the recovery and did factory reset then system rom still did not increase the size?
Remove the unnecessary apps from the rom using titanium backup or link2sd.....or replace the high memory consuming apps with other alternatives...like trebuchet with zeam....etc.
System Rom
I free system rom in the following way:
1) Remove apps like All live wallpaper,Gtalk, text to speech etc.which i don't use.But don't delete "live wallpaper picker".
2) Go to root/system/media/audio by using root explorer or else and mount r/w.Delete heavy sized ringtones,Notifications etc. upto 50kb.
Can try this. I m managing ICS this way.Other suggestions are most welcome!!

Thanks:laugh:
I did a factory reset on my phone yesterday and decided to really clear out a bunch of stuff with titanium that I never use, including widgets. I deleted the stock clock app thinking it was a widget. Does anyone know where I can find that? I'm open to a different app but I'm quite happy with the stock JB clock app.
Thanks!
Did you try doing a reset again?
tell your version and Rom so someone can upload it for you
i717, 4.1.2, stock and rooted
I haven't tried that because some of the bloat I deleted previously (Yahoo, some other stuff) was gone this reset.
also there are 2 other ways to get it back
flash stock Rom and you will lose root
flash custom Rom
also next time i suggest doing a backup via CWM

Factory reset won't replace any deleted files. All it does is delete user data and downloaded apps, and makes all settings to default.
Flashing the same rom on top of your rom will replace missing files and put back all the apps you deleted.
I suggest you use Titanium to freeze any unwanted things, then run a few days like that, then eventually delete the frozen apps.
I am on Telus and when I want to revert back to stock with all the bloat (well not quite all the bloat) I simply flash the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268617
[ROM][Modems] Custom Canadian Jelly Bean - Rooted & Deodexed. A similar thread exists for ATT. Then I restore additional apps via titanium backup or my apps in play store.

here is stock clock.apk and odex file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8psbgzybq5y3ze0/ClockPackage.apk ___ https://www.dropbox.com/s/0c0u7eoyyph22c3/ClockPackage.odex. download and move to system/app and make sure permisions are set properly then reboot. if you are running a stock deodexed rom you will need to remove clock package from that rom instead.
Thanks guys!
The dropbox clock downloads but doesn't install. Permissions are correct.
did you try installing like normal apk or did you place in system/app? should place in system/app. both clock.apk and odex.apk
Like normal? I'm afraid I don't know how to do the second one.
using a file manager that has root access(i use root exploerer but there are lots) move the apks that you downloaded into system/app folder. then long press the file until you get menu to come up and select set permissions. should be rw-r--r--. change if not. then reboot.
Hey, guys!! I love Titanium Backup Pro. It works amazingly well every time I flash to a new ROM. I also like to restore my user apps and date via the "update.zip" option in Titanium Backup. Now, every time I create the update.zip file, it's by default placed in /storage/sdcard0/. I have searched and searched through the preferences of the app and I can't find an answer to this question: Is it possible to change the default path of where the update.zip is placed when it's created? Namely, I'd like to have it created/placed right to a specific folder on my SD card located at /storage/extSdCard/Backup/.
Any feedback/answers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
I see no option like this unless I too have over looked it. I'd say that after creating the update.zip you'll have to manually move it to your desired location.

Going into preferences, then backup folder location, then clicking on detect won't let you do that?

No. That's where I can choose where to backup my apps to but I can't find where to choose where to place the update.zip file that's created when I zip up my current app backups.
