Auto-on/off "scheduler"? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Off should easily be done with Tasker. On, however, probably isn't possible on our phones. I could certainly be wrong, however.

Connecting Notifier for Windows mobile phones

CareAce.net have recently developed a notifier for Windows mobile phones that vibrates for a short period after an outgoing call has gone through.
So basically, it vibrates when someone picks up your call (even if its through to voicemail). It does not vibrate on connection to the network, that's a different feature.
Please check out more about it here: http://www.careace.net/2009/07/23/careace-exclusive-connecting-notifier/
Love to hear your opinion/suggestions!
Well... this does already exist in any HTC ROM I know... Do you mean that it doesn't exist on samsung devices ?
Yes and yes. this feature was omitted from some of the Samsung smartphones/pocket pcs. So we do see this as a sort of patch as well.
Can someone please upp the app here? Don't wanna to register there...

I thought this app does something different than the option on HTC roms... from what i understand, the one we currently have just vibrates on connection to the network. This app, however, vibrates when the person actually picks up the phone, not connection to the network. Please let me know if I'm mistaken and there actually is an option already to vibrate on pickup. Thanks

This app vibrates when someone picks up the phone. It does not vibrate on network connection. I haven't tried the feature on a native (unmod) HTC roms, but from the sound of it (as you described), they are not the same function.

Yeah, I think people are confusing the two functions. BUT, please let me know if I'm mistaken and this feature already exists on phones like the HTC Touch Pro and Diamond. If it's not on these phones, i consider it a great find.
can someone pls upload the file over for touch pro. i guess this should work with the default dailer skin. thanks.
even my dumb nokia phone have this feature
And every HTC, too... I don't understand people here... The touch pro already has this feature.
Just go to Start > Settings > Phone > Advanced > Vibrate on connect (or something like that... my ROM is french, so I don't know the exact name for the option).

Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you start questioning people and start calling them dumb (person above you)...
The feature already on our devices is to vibrate on connection to network... meaning when our call actually starts going out. Then it rings.
This app is different. Your phone rings... the it vibrates when the person you're calling actually picks up.
Yeap. Reiterating: I don't have a HTC that I'd tested this on. I've only tested it on SAMSUNG Windows Mobile devices which includes the Omnia, Epix, Blackjack, Jack and Propel Pro.
The feature: When your call goes THROUGH = ring, ring, ring... Hello. Then it vibrates.
The good thing about this as compared to vibrating when calling out is that you don't have to keep an ear (or an eye) on the phone to see if the call has gone through. And as our article has (hopefully) humorously underlined, it provides benefits like: health, safety, etiquette and finance.
Would love to have you try it (http://bit.ly/IpDsl) and share any input/bug report.
Thanks!
Slide 2 Unlock 2 will also do this, but I found that when I used it, various people would complain about a noise when I answer the phone or they answer the phone.
I called myself from home phone/to home phone, and both directions I can hear "WHIRRR" where the vibration is being picked up by the microphone.
Just my experience ;-)

@khaytsus. Yeap, that is a known issue when it comes to Samsung Omnia as well. This is actually device-based, depending on the location of the vibration motor.
For the rest of the Samsung device that we've tested, the motor is near the mic, whereas for the Omnia, it is closer to the top, hence creating a vibration sound when connected.
And yes, S2U2 amongst some other freeware/shareware has similar function alongside the 'main package' that they deliver, whereas this is sort of like a patch, giving the Samsung (and other applicable devices) what other device like HTC, may already have.

First, you shall not tell me what I'm allowed to say or not Thank you very much.
Then, don't blame me because someone else said the word "dumb", i'm not responsible for that.
And finally, my HTC Touch Diamond only vibrates when the person picks up, answers and talks to me. AFTER RINGING. I don't see the point in vibrating just when the call is going out... I use this vibration to put the phone to my ear only if someone (or voice mail) has picked up...
So please stay calm, we're just discussing features here, not calling people names.

Email Exchange Lock Screen Timeout

I just moved from an iPhone 4 to SGS2 yesterday and absolutely love it. The one thing that's been bothering me is how the screen timeout and lock screen work. On the iPhone, these are two different values. My screen turns off after one minute but doesn't lock until 10. That's the longest allowed per Exchange policy. But on the SGS2, they are the same. So I have to choose between a quick lock to save battery and keep entering my code or choose 10 minutes and waste battery.
I couldn't find any tools that can fix this for me.
This is a long debated issue and to my knowledge, a common problem in Android (I think that Google even changed the API in 2.2 to disable tinkering with this setting).
Still, on my previous Android running on HTC HD2, there was a way...
If someone has a solution, it would be great.

I dont know anything about the exchange and switching from iphone i found this battery vs lock screen very annoying.
What i do (unless someone has better suggestion that doesnt involve in rooting) , is that i install this app called "no lock".. so i set it as no lock when i am at home which means i only need to press the home button instead of entering pw. The downside is when i go out, i need to remember to lock it!

Well, not sure if there are any other options for our phone, but issue one would be the fact that we don't have any physical buttons on our phone.

Turn on your phone, restart, or hot restart > as soon as you see boot animation hold down volume down button. Keep it held until you get a long vibrate. After the vibrate you can let go. You should be in safe mode then.
To get out of it you can hot restart.

I think he means on the face of the device. Like, the old HTC Hero has physical buttons for home, menu, etc and a trackball .

A WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL ...
I tried this when I was having trouble connecting to my SDcard via USB and it did work, BUT... for some reason, it completely wiped out all of my widgets and home screen shortcuts.
Maybe this is an isolated problem with my phone, but be aware of this possibility before you proceed.

Did you have that issue after you exited safe mode? I remember that after I exited safe mode on my thunderbolt everything returned to normal.
I booted into safe mode once by accident, same thing, everything on the home screens was almost like a factory default, rebooted and it was fine again, everything came back to normal... Pretty sure Safe Mode on the Rezound is just like in Windows, it essentially just skips a bunch of custom and non-essential startup configuration parameters.

All the widgets and shortcuts were gone after I rebooted into normal mode. The same thing happened once before but I was in the middle of trouble-shooting some issues so I dismissed it as a system glitch.

[Q] android 4.2.2 developer mode

Hi, I have a Nexus 4 and I activated developer mode by typing 7 times on the build number. Is there any way I can disable developer mode so I will not be a developer anymore? I switch off in the developer options but I was wondering if I can remove that from settings for good and to not be registered as a developer anymore.
Please if you know how , reply!

It affects literally nothing. Don't turn it off, some of the features in there are useful. If you want to make your phone feel faster for example, just turn all of the animations to 0.5x.

No it doesn't. You have to have adb enabled for that to work. Just having it present in the options is safe.

[Q] Alarm when phone is off

Hello everyone,
I was just asking if there is a way to make the alarm ring even when the phone is completely turned off. I had a problem with my phone that it couldn't charge when it was turned on, and I found out that it was the socket's problem. I got it fixed. But during this time, I had to use a very old Nokia as an alarm. Is there any way to make the alarm ring even when the phone is off?
I read a few similar threads, and some said no. But aren't there apps that schedule automatic power on and off? Some phones actually have this built-in. Is there an alarm clock app that has the feature to power the phone on and ring?
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy SII (i9100G) with CM11.
Thank You in advance!
As far as I know the alarm of all smartphones does not work if the phone is off.
This is something that works only with basic phones ("feature phones"). This is likely due to the fact that smarphones have to boot a full OS in order to handle such tasks, which requires the phones to have the OS running in order to have alarms working.

Nah, some phones have it built in like that. First time I had that was from a little crappy Huawei Mercury. Was so confused. It happened like 2 or 3 days in a row before I realized what was going on and that I was not in fact, crazy (in that instance).
Or this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.nomoarpowah works on older Samsung phones that can auto turn on the phone at a custom time (before alarm).
Maybe something with Tasker and custom profiles could be done...?

Not that i am aware of. The old feature phones were able to do this because they were never completely off unless there was no battery. Where smartphones shut completely down so nothing is running.

I have 4 Android devices. The 2 Sony's don't turn on with an Alarm.
The Huawei and the Lenovo do turn on with an alarm. They also have scheduling to be turned on and off.
