Hi mates,
I have a problem with SMB (shared media folder)
I think after installing the latest firmware, the SMB option has disappeared from the "Videos" app option. Is only showing the microSD as external media.
Someone knows why? (and yes i scrolled down, and nothing)
thanks

Guys,
Having now got my Samsung TV set up wirelessly I thought I would try AllShare on the SGSII and DLNA a few video files across.
However, what I am finding is AllShare does not seek out all movie files stored on either the internal SD or External_SD. It lists video's you have created using the default camera App.
Has anyone found a way to get AllShare to display movies you have transferred onto the SGSII?
Edited:
Sorted - See Post 7.
I seriously can not believe no one is interested in finding out why we can not display all video/photo and audio files.
I tried this on my Tab and sure enough Allshare does display other video files not stored in the camera folder, so it begs the question why is it the SGSII does not allow you to display them?
If this is correct and again I fail to see it's accuracy that would mean you can not show a movie you have on your external_sd card via Allshare. That sounds utterly preposterous.
Either I am missing something so simple it is eluding me or there is a problem with Allshare's ability in searching for and displaying all supported file's.
I don't want this topic to die without first a fight but if no one replies it will fold away in the depth's of xda-devs.
The Allshare apps on my SGSII has no problems listing videos not inside DCIM.
I've installed the Allshare app on my HTPC (Win7). Using the app on teh SGSII I'm able to playback videos in folder /sdcard/Movies (that's the internal card, don't have an external card to test with)

Thanks for replying, appreciated.
Well I am pleased to hear you can display and play other video media, this is how it should be.
Now if I can get someone to test the external sd as well then I will know if I have a problem with my Allshare.
Meanwhile I will try copying a few video's to the internal sd/movies folder and see if Allshare can pick them up. If so then it may be that Allshare does not list files on the external sd.
Weird as the Tab does.
Received my SD card today and moved the videos folder over from internal to external card. Allshare still shows the videos in the My Device tab > Videos view

Can you provide an accurate naming and directory of exactly where on the external_sd card they are stored please.
Maybe it's because I have mine buried too deep in the card for Allshare to pick them up.
As in say ~ sdcard/external_sd/movies/
/external_sd/Video/
In the Video folder I have mkvs and avi which I copied over.
Allshare could see them in KDD and now KE2 firmware. Didn't test with other firmwares.

That worked a treat.... Thanks, sorted.
What did you have to do, rename the Movies folder to Video?
No... When I tried that it still didn't display anything.
However when I moved the Movies folder to the root it then listed the files.
So weird.... naming the folder to Video's in the root displays nothing
Having the folder name Movies not in the root displays nothing.
.. but having the folder name Movies in the root works.
Talk about confusing.....
My next issue is with Music.
Any music in a folder named Music either in the root on the external_sd or directly in sdcard/ does not display anything inside that folder.
Where do you have your music stored and under what name?
Music is stored in /sdcard/Music/Artist/Album/track.mp3 and Allshare can see it all no problem.
I sync my music using WMP12 and it creates the Music folder and all subfolders. Works manually too.

Weird..... that is where I stored my folder named Music but Allshare finds nothing.
I'll have a closer look later... Just about to go back into theatre for this mornings Ops.
EDITED:
Well... I found the time in the end and what a surprise it is...
If I place the music where you did in sdcard/music/ Allshare does not display it.
But.. if I place it in sdcard/media/ the music files are then picked up?
Hi Folks
I've got a NAS at home which I can easily connect to from my GS2 when out and about and I can view all my stored files (music, photos and vids)
These are remote files sitting on my NAS box at home and not locally stored on the phone or my SD card.
I can also select any of the remote music and photos files and they open just fine with the installed stock apps , but when I try and open a vid (avi & divx formats) the stock video app doesnt like it
I was wondering whether anyone has any recommendations on a video/media player that can open my vids (avi & divx) from a connection over the internet?
Thanks
One of the biggest selling points of the Archos G9 for me, was the ability to play all kinds of filetypes through the video and music players. I was somewhat disappointed though, when I found out that I had to manually browse through my external storage to play the files I wanted to play. My external hdd is set to autobackup my laptop so that means finding files is folder hell. I was wondering if there is any way to get my files to show up so that I could scroll through them just as if they had been on the internal storage. This would make things so much more convenient. Any suggestions?

Well I kinda want the default player because of its priceless mkv support. I've noticed in the file browser you can highlight an internal media folder (dcim, Music, Video) and select options in Media Share. These are the only folders that you can set share types, which I assume includes the folder into the media library. Maybe there is some way that we could give other folders special permissions to allow them to be shared like these.
I have exactly the same problem. Had in mind to use the G9 as multimedia devices streaming music and video from my NAS to my TV. I had expected that the G9 had native support for Network drives, but it doesn't. At least I could not find it. The best alternative I found is BubbleUPnP. This app detects my Synology NAS and I can start any video from it. For Video you can select which player to use. Music is played with the build in player, which I don't like. I prefer PowerAmp. An app that brings a kind of XBMC to a tablet is what I need.
Hi all,
I hope this is the right place to ask this:
I use doubletwist for listening to new music that is stored on my SD card. I use Google Music for streaming my favorite tracks that I have uploaded. The problem is Google Music automatically searches my SD card and displays all the music stored on my phone along with the artists/playlists/etc. that I have stored on the cloud, which makes it confusing when browsing the library. My question is: Can I prevent Google Music from searching and displaying what's on the SD card, but still allow doubletwist to see it? Thanks much!
I think that's not a problem with the Google Play Music app. The Media Storage app does the scanning. I don't think you can do what you asked.
bump. So is this a no-go? No way to disable media scanning for google music but still allow it for doubletwist?
I don't use either app but you could try the .nomedia trick. Just create an empty file and name it ".nomedia" and place it in whatever folder your music is in then force media scanner to do a rescan (or just reboot). Media scanner will skip any folder (including all subfolders) that contains a ".nomedia" file. This should hide your music from google music but they should still show up in doubletwist (I think). Note this will hide all media files which means they will not show up in any app that depends on media scanner (any photos in the folder will not show up in the stock gallery app, etc.). If you need to unhide the folder just delete the ".nomedia" file and force another media rescan.
Thanks for the response. I tried that, but it hides media from both google music and doubletwist. This is frustrating. Why can't these apps just have a menu to allow you to select the folders you want for a library? Why do they think they need to be able to scan the whole card?
I inserted a 64gb sd card into my new tablet z, it is viewable in the filemanagerHD app, and I copied a Jpg image to test it but I get a"media not found " error when I view the jpg. Its the same on walkman if I browse my local network and try to browse photos or play music stored on my NAS, and also the same on VLC.
Anyone have advice to help me?
Thanks
