Hi folks!
I'm just a newbie... I searched in the forums but I didn't find any clear answers.
I bought an Xperia x10a (it's an At&t world phone) And as you already know, I'm so frustrated waiting for the 2.1 update for At&t phones that I'm considering to debrand my phone, so at this point I have two questions:
1-If I debrand my world phone, Will I be able to update to the next software version using SEUS, or it is mandatory to debrand and then use the firmwares posted in the forums to flash it and finally get 2.1+Dual touch?
2-In case that I have to flash my phone, does these roms come with Timescape, mediascape and moxier mail(this one is replaced by at&t for an app called "work email" that I don't like at all) but I'd like to preserve timescape and mediascape.
I'll keep waiting for your answers and sorry if this question is already answered in another thread, as I mentioned before, I'm very very newbie not only in android but xda-developers forum.
Best regards

u dont need to debrand anything.
just download flashtool. pick the firmware you want.
in your case you probably want 2.1, build .435 right ? its all over the forums look around. and flash it using flashtool.
from there you can root, jit, and install xrecovery as well.
there is a guide how to use flashtool on youtube if u cannot get it from the thread about how to use flashtool.
and yes it comes with those things.
push thanks if i helped.
edit: here i'll just point you to it since i ended up looking at it anyway.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
again. no debrand needed. just youtube for a tutorial on how to use the flashtool if u cant figure it out.

Hi there,
I'm rather new (so sorry if these are dumb questions) to all this flashing / rooting / de branding and had a few questions about it..
Well i bought the x10 on mobile network 3 (three uk) and tbh they are ****. First phone i had i debranded using the SEUS copy file method over, but since then i have had them replace the phone. i tried the same method but as SE have updated SEUS i can't get it to work... :|
So looking around i started reading up on rooting.
Firstly if i follow this guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907 will that debrand the phone to the generic firmware?
If that is the case will i then be able to get future updates through SEUS or not?
If i rooted the phone, would there be anyway to go back to the so called unrooted version?
And lastly, what are the other pro's and con's of rooting?
Thanks, and sorry if these are silly questions!

Hi.
They aren't silly if you don't know the answer, but considering a search of the forum and browse of the guide (which you could have posted this question on) would have given you the answers it's an annoying post.
Read the rules and browse THIS section.
i had been researching the topic for 2 days before i posted here, i understand the majority of it just not the questions posted above.
i followed the link you posted but it did not answer my main question
will that debrand the phone to the generic firmware?
If that is the case will i then be able to get future updates through SEUS or not?

After searching google with can I run seus after rooting, I found this thread - [Q] Questions about rooting my X10i
Total time, 30 seconds.
thankyou
sorry, just seen so many posts about it didn't know what to properly search for
pardon my ignorance
No worries, but it is frustrating to see new threads asking questions that have been answered a million times already. In future just post on an existing thread instead of starting new ones.
To answer one of your other questions - What is rooting and why should I do it?
yes i can understand that entirely being a member of other forums myself.
In future Existing Posts it is!
Thanks for that link as well, definatly explains things in more detail!

Hi everyone,
I have a X10 since september, but I'm kind of a noob with all this X10-modding thing. Please move my topic if it's not in the right place. I have a couple of questions, and sometimes you're gonna think that I'm an idiot, but I prefer to be sure of what I have to do exactly before I do anything.
So my X10 is branded with a Orange France rom, which is still in firmware 2.0.A.0.504 (baseband 2.0.46). I don't have multitouch at all and it's laggy.
First, I read this topic about backing up my current rom (in case I have a problem and/or I have to send it to repair). I have downloaded Bin4ry's flash tool and seen that I can use it to extract .sin files from FILE_XXXXXXX files. Is this method still ok ? The link to the jerpelea SIN Reconstructor is dead, so is it possible to reconstruct the ftf file with Bin4ry's flash tool ? If yes, what files do I have to put in the bundle (I don't obtain the same files as in the tutorial) ? And when I get the ftf file, in order to get my phone back to its original firmware, do I simply have to add the ftf file in the firmware folder and then flash ?
I also have another set of questions ^^. For example, if I root my X10, then I modify the build.prop file (as described in this topic) to match a generic code, and then repair my phone through PC Companion / SEUS, will I get a generic rom ? And if I want to switch back to my original firmware, is putting back the original code and updating enough ?
About basebands now : if I download a rom, is the baseband file already included or do I have to include its .ftf file too ? How exactly does this work ? (I have read a lot of people saying that it's important to have a baseband matching your rom, but I didn't get how to actually do it ). I assume that SEUS / PC Companion do the baseband update automatically ?
I have read quite a lot of tutorials, not always understanding every step. Thanks a lot to those who will answer my noob questions...
Read this thread and ALL of Flashtool howto guide. The files for getting the latest baseband are in there along with the the howto guide. The howto is by Rendeiro2005. Read that.
That will help you get the download the latest baseband and use flashtool to flash it to your phone. Keep posting with questions if your still stumped after looking at it. Good luck.
Here is the link to flashtool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
I use the .54 baseband.
Thanks for your answer Voelker45.
I have read the flashtool tutorial (the how-to for n00bs, lol), but it's still unclear wether I need to use a separate .ftf file for the baseband or not.
What about backing up my current rom and changing the code in build.prop ?
Thanks

Don't separate the ftf file and don't change the code for the build.prop. I never heard of changing that code so never changed it. Just use the ftf file as is and you should be good to go for flashing. Put the ftf file in the firmwares folder of flashtool and the steps of the guide SHOULD help you from there. Keep posting if you have questions.
Backing up won't help you till you have xrecovery. which I can help you with when you finish with flashtool and then rooting the phone. Flashtool is going to get rid of all data on phone when you flash the latest baseband.
Thank you . I am not going to do this now (I'm a student and I have an exam next week), but probably in one or two weeks. I'll keep you posted when I proceed !
So there is no build.prop method ? Then how can you restore your original branded rom ? =S
I dont know anything about that build thing. So i wouldnt do anything with it till someone else tells u. The backup will have to wait. Well good luck on exams

Thanks ! I'm gonna wait anyway. I'll post here when I do something.
Hello. I came here from the Xperia X10 mini forum, because i just got a S2
Thing is i don't know what to do with it. With the SE it was different, I was a SE user my whole life, so I was up to date with how to do things on SE droids (root, flash with flashtool, etc.). But i have 0 experience with samsung.
I have:
PDA: I91000XWKE2
BASEBAND: I9100XXKDJ
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-i9100xwke2-cl187606 [email protected] #2
It's running droid 2.3.3 and I cant update with KIES because it gives me windows encountered a problem etc etc... the old send dont send but on windows 7 (x64).
So I would like to flash it to a 2.3.5 rom and root it. Can anyone explain how do I do this? I don't know what and where to search because I'm new to samsung.
So far i have downloaded ODIN 1.85 and a found this "GT-I9100_OXA_I9100XXKI3_I9100XXKI3_I9100OXAKI3" file. What do i do with it? (also explain steps plz).
I never had a smartphone in my life before I got my SGS2, and I managed to flash all the ROMs without creating threads with questions that are answered in stickies. But maybe I'm a genius, not anyone can be one.
So, try here for starters.. or just search around.
install this kernel and read all the texts.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
You should now be root and have cmw recovery, and you can flash pretty much any rom you want.
Not to familiar with teh sony's but i assume you had clockwock mod recovery?
Odin to flash, cf root to flash as kernel to allow root and get cwm, cwm to flash a custom rom as a quick guide on what to search. Generally reading around will help.

Ty for the reply guys. Really apreciate the help and am reading everything you posted.
But 1 thing: witha ll respect, stop acting like I'm using up your personal space, I opened this thread for a reason, because i dont understand sh!t, and reading wont help unless i start to read the very beginning.
When i was at the Xperia thread, i used a program called Flashtool to flash a new generic rom to my X10 mini pro. It also updated the baseband (and basebands where important when i flashed a custom ROM, you needed to have latest baseband and kernel to flash X,Y,and Z custom roms).
I just want to update to the original samsung 2.3.5 ROM with odin (as kies sucks and wont work) and the rest will be easy. Don't want CWM and root yet, just a plain stock 2.3.5 rom. I just wanted to know if i can flash THAT file (first post, long text) to my phone with ODIN.
Again, thank you very much for the support, and will continue to read everything you guys post here.
It's easy to say search for this and search for that when you know exactly what to search for. In my case, I dont even know where to begin. And i would like to finish this "job" in the next 2 hours, as after that its time to sleep :/

No offence mate but when I moved from an HTC to a Samsung based device I was a newb then to, coming from another phone to different methods to another new method I got to grips with everything just reading around.
To answer your questions, yes you can flash a stock rom using odin, all you need is to check out intratechs thread in original development section, as of now KJ3 is the latest 2.3.5 firmware, download a frankenstein version and read his thread which had a guide on what to put where.

Your original post mentioned you wanted to root it hence I gave you the easiest way of doing so is to flash cf root, searching cf root would have given you that thread plus instructions within that thread.

well i flashed that rom i pasted there and it worked. Was simple once i knew i need to put that in PDA and start it.
Yes i know about CF root and will be my next move. Thank you so much for everythingyou posted (again). And will REread every post again for extra knowledge. Need to forget everything i know about SE and learn new stuff.
Not sure if I have this in the correct section, sorry if i dont and please move to correct if not.
i am running a rooted with locked bootloader verizon r800x Xperia play with a 0.88 build number. My question is can i get on the 0.42/0.56/.62 builds. Ive notice that almost everything is built around those numbers and with having a 0.88 build I'm not sure if i can flash any of the roms or mods and i dont wanna brick my phone. i found a generic 800i ftf file for 0.42 build, I'm just not sure if i can use flashtools and run it on my phone and have it work. can anyone help and point me in the right direction on if i can change that build number so i can play with my phone. if i cant use that file is there one out there that i can use and could anyone post link with what i need. thank you to all answers in advance. I have rooted my share of phones, but with every new phone comes with new experiences and questions.
Firstly, this definitely should go into Q&A. On topic, and pardon the pun, there's a topic about this in the general section, but can't exactly remember which... just browse through the forums and try to find it. It's something that goes like "R800x service attempt".

r800x have only update to android 2.3.3 and you cant have 0.42 and next cause its 2.3.4.
Next: r800x is cdma version of XPlay and r800i, r800at... are GSM so u cant flash ftf for them cause ur phone can brick
There are no (i think) roms and sth like this for r800x sry
USA has 4g, other countries have 3g so sry, blame service providers from your country

As others have said before, This belongs in Q&A. But, on topic
The 4.x versions (i.e. .42,.56,.62) builds are R800i specific, and while myself and a couple of others (i.e. 216Monster) have tried porting them, we run into the problem of "Baseband Unknown" (Meaning that we cannot get cellphone reception)
The only way to get a new build of android on the R800x is to unlock the bootloader, then CM 7/9 are stable, and Sony Beta/any thing else based off ics are less stable.
To root your phone, check my sig for the zergRush link.

Thanks for the info. I was looking forward to playing with all the, roms. And mods that were out for this phone, but I failed to do the researh I should have done, and seen there was more then one model. Verizon has really screwed all the r800x users. Again sorry for posting in the wrong place.

Hi,
I'm fairly new with this phone, and I had rooted it without unlocking the bootloader. (downgrade to GB, root, then upgrade to ICS)
I just found out that a newer version of ICS is released the other day and was wondering that if there is anyway I can update my device while keeping the root ? Say, if I use flashtool to flash the new version, will I lose the root? Or should I use the pc companion software? Or cwm recovery?
I am a total noob here, and I have no idea what I'm doing... Kind of want to figure everything out before I accidentally bricked my phone.
you could try the thread about it on the development section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857736
or you can try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856287
And btw, use the search button first, or at least read the thread titles in the first page ¬¬
Thanks !!
I must have phrased the keywords wrong or something last night since neither of the posts you provided was in the search result.
Thanks for sharing the posts though. I had just successfully upgraded my phone with PCC while preserving the root !!
