Hi All
Been a regular reader but just joined now.
Anyway I've been trying a few custom ROMs out on my rooted HTC Hero (GSM)... many have some very good things, but many of the 2.2 ones don't have some of the features or apps I loved from 2.1, especially some of the HTC sense, or some of the apps.
So, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a custom ROM that can do/has the following:
- Based on Froyo 2.2 (want to try out the supposed performance improvements, new UI, later version of flash, etc)
- Needs the Apps2SD functionality (I believe all 2.2 based Roms have it)
- I really like the HTC flip clock/weather widget, with the animated weather as in 2.1..but haven't seen it in 2.2. Is it not available anymore? Anyway it could manually still be added?
- The 2.1 weather app.. where you can add multiple locations. 2.2 only seems to have weather/news which I dont like as much.... the option to see weather in different locations just by scrolling down was great. No other options in the market seem to do this as well, either
- In fact - most of the original HTC widgets available of on the Hero I would still like
- The 'Stocks' app found in earlier versions is missing in 2.2. I really like this app, as it's the only one I have ever found that you can add many quotes, and will work well with non-US countries (like Australia/NZ sharemarkets for example). But, it's not in found in the market and doesn't seem to be featured in 2.2?
- I also liked the way that when looking at 'people', it would summarise 'events' like birthdays and give me a taskbar notification. The 2.2 Roms I have tried so far, don't seem to have this same function anywhere..is it still available?
- I also liked the previous 'my contact card' where I could store my own details. I cant see this in 2.2 either is nit now gone? Would still love that.
Anyway, maybe I'm asking too much, but is there any custom ROM anyone can recommend, that is based on 2.2 but still has those 'good' bits from 2.1 or earlier?
Or, is there anyway I can add them myself??
I have checked out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889299
and others, but so far haven't found anything that quite has the above...
For the Flip Clock, you can search for Fancy Widget. In the current version, the autohor redesigned ist, but with you can find the older version here on the forum -and it looked exactly like the Sense flip clock! (what also explains, why that version was removed from the market by htc) As a bonus, I find it less laggy than the original one -therefore, it replaced HTC's flip clock on my homescreen
For the rest, I think, you need a ROM with Sense, as Sense Widget don't work on non-sense Roms...
I use fancy widget as well, glad I saved the .apk file
as for the sense like widgets you are better of doing a market search you might find some similiar to them.
or just go install the custom sense froyo roms although the camera or some hardware aint working on them
Thanks, I found the older fancy widget apk so I will give that a try.
I guess I'm asking too much for a custom ROM based on 2.2, with all the HTC Sense stuff still working... will have to comprise somewhere.
I really wanna give 2.2 a decent try but a lot of the stuff I liked from 2.1 isn't there anymore in the ROM's I've seen.
Anyway thanks for the replies!

the fact is mate you want HTC Sense on 2.2 (or sounds like that), which isn't a 100% stable port on the Hero (GSM) so you can have 2.2 working perfectly and use 3rd party apps like everyone else to get the same effect, or you can use a buggy 2.2 port of HTC sense, and live with it until someone makes a good port.
Yeah I wasn't too sure what ROM's were available and what they all could or could not do, hence asking for recommendations.
Anyway I'm trying out a number of differnet ones until I find the best one for me.
Think you're right though, 2.2 with Sense isn't really available/stable yet so I think a non-sense 2.2 with addons is the way to go at this stage.
Cheers
Hi,
I trye different ROM and i think a non-sense 2.2 whith an other launcher (like LauncherPro) is better than Sense...
The ROM TastyFroyo is the faster ROM but the screen resolution is not compatible with BeautifulWidget. (2.2 non-sense)
And the FroyedVillain is awesome too and full stable! (2.2 non-sense)
The ChocolateFroyo is a 2.2 with sense but i dut test it...
You have the rom in 2.3 too!!!
Elinux ROM and TastyGinger are great but still in beta...

For me it´s miniCM2.0.1 2.3.4
The only problem still Camera just take pictures in vga mode
for me i cannot also read QR codes because no autofocus :-(
Next time post on general discussion...this room is for rom development try to keep it clean ty
Sent from my E10
I test all of the roms,
miniCM7 2.0.1 with 2.3.4rom is the best for use
all of the other 2.3.4rom have the Camera problem too--vga mode only
But i like the home semc, wich with Stock Corner style。
Hope miniCM7 2.3.4ROM will suppot it.
Like 2.0.1 MiniCM
You know guys, I am using MiniCM7 I dont mind about camera, but if you care a lot about things not running in this ROM or any other in development, you should go for WaterBeARC X v1.0 is a really good one cuz is based in a SE release (ROM).
From what i've seen, all other roms are practically customized versions of minicm7 built on 2.0.1. So there's not much significant difference like in performance or drivers. It's only up to your preferences, which apps you want pre-installed, if you use corner style or your own launcher... I personally don't use 2.3.4, because there are way too many bugs compared to 2.2.1... & I'm not a tester kind of guy - i like to use the full potential of a device, not test & report bugs But what i liked about minicm7 is that you can register & receive notifications about new versions & updates. This is quite good when there are still bugs waiting to get fixed, so immediately after new release, you're notified. I don't know if this feature is also present in other roms.
im currently using srom 2.3.3v1 which is a cyanogen based rom, i think its pretty stable minus the bugs of course. Its got a brilliant user interface though you will have to download some of the apps from market,i gladly recommend it to anyone who has a mini...i hear the v2 will be out soon..cant wait!!!

WaterBeArc is android 2.1, the title of this thread is best 2.3.4
Of course WaterBeArc is stable, it's just stock 2.1 with BlackHtc theme and some stuff like xrecovery and jit
Minicm 7 has been very stable for me, only one reboot in by 3 weeks of usage.

Come closer, I wanna tell you a secret...good, now listen: He was actually more helpful to the topic than you, bro.
And btw, it's not just stability, 2.1 is also fast & has the best battery life. People at SE know what they're doing. You still use in 2.3.4 drivers ported from stock 2.1 & devs are now debugging them to work at least that good as they did in 2.1. As I said, nAa did a pretty good job with miniCM6, but miniCM7 is missing a lot for me so far: camera resolution, auto-focus, can't select cyanogedmod notification power button for flashlight (in 2.2.1 i can, i don't know why) & sensors are sometimes acting weird in apps like compass or metal detector. But definitely from 2.3.4 roms i would use miniCM7, because until now it's been miniCM that's been innovating & other roms were just following the miniCM & tuning it, i think this trend will stay.
Is it possible to our mini pro cellphones? I badly want it, but I cant find. Anyway if its not possible, congrats to the hard working developers here
I honestly cannot see the point of this. As said a 100 times before honeycomb is designed for widescreen tablets and makes use of special hardware accelleration... both features which the X10 mini pro simply dosen't have.
All cons and no pros.
The project would be a waste of time.
HoneyComb does not work, screen is blured and does not work touchscren.
What is the point of using HoneyComb on our itsy bitsy little screens? If your talking about a 5" and above tablet, I would understand. But on a 2.55" screen? At any rate, most honeycomb apps are designed for tablets, so even if you have a usable port of honeycomb, it'd be pretty useless without the apps.
ruifung in honeycomb framework found folder drawable-ldpi, LDPI - 240x320.
It is compatible with our screen but not the necessary libraries to run the Android 3.0.
For x10 mini. bad work!

I read that if the device which is running Honeycomb drops below a certain DPI it automatically switches to a gingerbread theme mode.

There are so many GB roms out there now. What's the difference between miui and say Simply Honey? I've only ever used that and Simply Stock. Is one better than the other as far as performance or is it more visual? Thanks!
Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel. Badass Rom \m/
Miui is mostly visual it is an overhaul of android ui its also fast but i multitasking menu is slow to start when playing games but it is cool also its smooth over all battery is avrage to bad 8-12 hrs in my experience an other gb roms is samsung roms on steriods an battery is great 12-20 for me froyo like 14-24 an its regular android with twiz on top of it an the browser is lag free on jvs an jvr roms an i prefer sammy gingerbread because its better over all

If I may explain in a slightly less feverish run-on-sentencey way than Jason, MIUI is built from the ground up, while most other Gingerbread ROMs are based on leaked i9000 ROMs from Samsung.
MIUI has a unique launcher that does away with the app drawer, instead putting all apps on your home pages which are easily organized into folders of your choosing. It also has many special features you can't find in the leaked i9000 gingerbread ROMs. For instance, long pressing a toggle like wifi or bluetooth will open up its settings.
MIUI is also, in my experience, a much smoother experience than Froyo and even leaked Gingerbread. The launcher has no lag with only a mild overclock, and apps load quickly. Even the phone itself starts up quicker than with other ROMs.
The best part of MIUI is in the customization by way of theming. All those special lockscreens that require custom ROMs and flashing to use? MIUI allows for anywhere from single swipe to, I'm not kidding, 15 button lock screens simply by downloading them through the online theme collection. You can change your icons, status bar, lock screen and wallpaper, dialer, SMS, and more by simply downloading a theme online through MIUI, and can even mix and match various components to your liking. SMS from Blue Dado Black combined with an animated lockscreen from some indecipherable Chinese name and a font from the Evolver theme, and on and on.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to know more, read the MIUI threads in the Development section. For me, I can't imagine leaving the ROM without something catastrophic happening.
Thanks man!! I'm gonna give one a try tonight.
One quick question, if I have the gb bootloaders I need to Odin the froyo one right? Also need to be on stock 2.1 or .22
Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel. Badass Rom \m/

Yes, you'll need a Froyo bootloader. I just installed Lithium V2.1 MIUI and wow, it's super cool. I'm trying to figure out the lockscreens.
of all roms that I have tried Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel is one badass rom!!!!!!!!!!! it is super fast with 0 bugs or forced closes and I have no desire to switch it for any other "pretty rom"

I have never tried a jv(anything) Tom but I did try every froyo I could get my phone on and I did miui in early augustvand it was a constant flash back and forth from cm7 to that.
I have noticed occasionally lag while loading apps like cnet tv and games (using chainfire pro).
What was the last miui you tried? I must say l, miui as is really stable and still fast, lithium rocks in speed, stock is my face so far when the powermod is applied.
I could not justify staying off of froyo until now.
Miui launches apps fast but are they faster once loaded in Samsung base rom's?
Also it has been since august that I tried any cm7 nightlies since gr90, is it just me or has miui surpassed cm7 in stability with less maunual fixes?
One thing is that the speaker on off for people to hear me is still happening on every miui I try
Hi all,
I only now use my X10 as my secondary phone - I use it when I go running to track my running stats with the GPS etc, so that if I drop it and break it, it's not a big deal!
For the last few months I've been using this AOSP 4.2.2 ROM on there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197387
I think this ROM is amazing, but it does have a tendency to slow down to a crawl when I am out and running my Endomondo running app.
So I have decided I want a Gingerbread ROM again, probably Feralabs, but there are some features in ICS/JB that I was wondering if had been ported across?
Specifically, I want to be able to add the custom message to the home screen. I like this feature, as I can put my name and phone number in there in case I do lose the phone and anyone finds it (obviously relying on the fact that they wish to return it to me!!)
Also, I want the WiFi icon in the toolbar to have the activity arrows. In GB ROMs I've used, it's always just a static icon.
Is there any Gingerbread ROM which has a launcher which supports these two functions?
Many thanks for any advice.
Alex
Bump....nothing??
Have both those features on my XPERIA S, but don't know of any XPERIA X10i GB ROM that has those features.... and I've tried a few.
Thanks for the reply
Likewise, I also have those features on the Xperia S, but in JellyBean.
The wifi one sounds silly, but I actually rely on the activity arrows a lot as my wifi plays up so often. Whereas in Gingerbread is just sits there with the icon and you have no idea if data is being sent or received.
The message on the homescreen feature I always use in ICS/JB, it's a shame it appears it cannot be done in GB ROMs.

Not that is can't be done, just that I don't know of any GB ROM that has it.
Check X10 themes and Apps posts, you never know your luck.
