[Q] Flashtool vs xRecovery - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to install a new ROM on my X10i.
1) Best Stable and perfectly working ROM available now ?
2) Flashtool or xRecovery ?

1) TRIP'S MIUI
2) can't figure out the question --> flashtool is for new baseband etc. | xRecovery is for installing new ROMs etc.

flashtool is for firmware/baseband flashing
xrecovery is for changing/updating ROMs
currently the only perfect roms are Eclair (2.1)
all Froyo (2.2) roms dont have video recording facility (if any then at very low fps 15fps with low res)
all GingerBread (2.3) roms dont have camera/video recording...
something for ur reference:

[Q] Froyo beta 4 or Gingerbread???

I still have 2.1 on my x10i and i am wondering will it be better to get froyo beta 4 or gingerbread?? What do u think?
I'll vote for 2.3.2
But as i see froyo has more things working then ginger, but is there any difference in speed?

makes your phone look like an iphone for some stupid reason... I think it has to be the ugliest rom I've ever seen, then again I hate the rows of icons and boring iphone appearance...
My vote goes to freex10 hands down... Hardly anything in the gingerbread rom works yet.
Yea i just saw it on youtube, and i didn't like it, but i also found CM6 and they said everything is working, so has any1 try it and how does it look
go for FroYo, Gingerbread is still in its early beta stage and you may not be happy with all the FC's and other unknown problems.
Gingerbread looks more promising, I would recommend you to wait for some time and check out further releases. I would vote for wolfbreaks froyo 6 .1.v4. Very stable and super fast.

You can install the ROM using Xrecovery from this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?gl9o0susbn0m31b And then flash Camcorder fix using Xrecovery http://www.mediafire.com/?kxfmw3s4e3asr7h
According to Dev, it's a complete new ROM... But remember to wipe Delvick Cache, Battery stats etc before flashing ROM
i ve done it bro. thanks.
but i miss the 720p video..
i am a snowboarder and i record videos everytime. now i need to take with me my camera..
AND i need to switch between stock camera app and vignette.
stock camera app has video recording and NO flash.
vignette has flash but NOT camcorder.. :'(
after CM6.1.3 gingerbread i deside to install the official again from SEUS.
after SEUS said that there is no new firmware nothing happens.
i try the sony pc companion and says to try again later.
AND after all of this
now the phone can't pass the white sony ericsson logo.
i have acces on xrecovery.
Do you have a backup of any ROMs that youve made in xRecovery? If so, you can restore it in xRecovery.
You can also repair your phone using SEUS. SEUS will say that there is no new firmware but install it anyway.

[Q] questions about custom kernel

created this to avoid polluting the dev forum with my noobness
I've been following the kernel development from a distance, but getting more and more interested as the progress goes, for those testing it: Can I use it with any rom without compromise? For instance, camera will still work on wolfbreak's CM6?
The instructions on FreexperiaRecovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046609 are slightly confusing (too much info perhaps) but to do a fresh start of froyo with custom kernel i should:
1-flash a stock 2.1 with baseband 52 (or flash bb 52 separately) with flashtools
2-flash freexperiaRecovery and kernel with flashtools
3-flash baseband fix for 2.2 with freexperiaRecovery
4-flash 2.2 rom with freexperiaRecovery
5-reboot
Is that correct?
u need to flash the 2.2 rom first before the baseband patch, everything else seems about right
thanks! can't wait to try it
i'll ask here so i don't open another noob thread so sorry for the hijack
anyway, is there a custom kernel for 2.2 that has everything working? i can't seem to find a nice list of kernels with working/not working changelog, and of course it's benefits over the stock kernel
any explanation would be great

hm, not sure what you were trying to say but i was searching for a kernel not rom
At this point the custom kernel is not stable (i.e. battery drain). I'd give it a month or two before a fully working kernel is released.
yeah, i've read there's a battery drain issue with the kernel, i've waited until now, waiting a little more wouldn't hurt.

hi i am using FreeX10 beta4 hotfix1 runnin on bb52.. successfully but i cant seem to get the custom kernel to work... there are just too much info in the development section i hav been tryin to get this custom kernel to boot... but my fone keeps boot loopin
pls share your insight....
Finally decided to try a custom kernel, the zkernel for higher basebands since bb67 worked so well for me and I'm glad I've waited, not only this kernel is very stable but super easy to install.
No need to change my baseband or anything, simply flashed it with xrecovery 0.3 over my wolf's froyo rom, followed by Doomlord's fixes and after the reeboot, it was working, after two days use i've detected no issues.
Doomlord's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136940
z's original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135475
note 1: I've flashed z's original file and both doomlord's boot.img and wifi fix zip files, but in his thread Doomlord already provides the kernel with different boot.img for each rom.
note 2: there are two versions, but you only need the z23062011 version if the previous one gives you random shutdowns.

Best ROM for Stock

Guys no one is giving any suggestions
which is the best ROM for STOCK kernel....>?????
MiniCM6 v1.0.6 is best for me for stock kernel!

I prefer in stock kernel MiniCM7 pro V21 by Paul...
Just give a try, and decide which is better for you..!
thanks cerebro....but when i was looking for CM7 it said its for zombie and other kernels and it requires to unlock the bootloader because it installs the private kernel on that....
i will go for the custom kernel because i can feel the difference when i use the phone. so if you feel very brave and have more guts to unlock the bootloader you can test all the available kernels.
I prefer you can test that out with custom kernel. if you dont then its ok.
Every user has a personal opinion over rom and kernel. so it is pointless to know which one works with the stock kernel. You can go for a rom hunt and find out which one works for you.
Good luck!
for me best rom for stock is CM7v21 and GingerDX (any version)
also FlameDX.ICS style.

thnx, i already tried that one but i had some issues with that rom, i have now for a few months mini arc and it works fine sometime a little bit slow and now i have v9 and looks great. i like the rom because the original state of it no weird icons or launchers (i hate that)
I have been using minicm7 pro v21 since it got out and had no problem with it.
I haven't tried arcmini or the latest gingerDX though.
Would Be MiniCM7 Pro V21...
