Hi Guys, I'm trying to get my Streak to access my companys network via my laptop (USB connection), but I can't figure out how to do it. Basically, my laptop (XP) has a VPN client on it, and I need the Streak to route internet traffic through it. Is this possible? It was automatic with WM.
You cannot access your network via USB connection from Streak to PC. It doesn't work like this with Android.
You can connect via Wifi and "see" shared network files with a file explorer program or share your mobile internet to your PC (teether).
I 'm not sure what you actually want to do.
I get what you mean. Sort of usb tethering from laptop to phone like in winmo's activesync software. I am afraid you just cannot do this on android.
ok, thanks for the reply.

Hello,
I wanted to know if there is a way for my phone to access the internet using the network connection on my computer via USB. My old windows mobil phone allowed this through activesync. There was an option which i could click on to share the connection to my phone.
Is this possible with the Atrix?
Thanks!
You didnt mention what kind of comp/os you have. Are you on Win7? If so maybe you can try Connectify.? Or maybe you can get this reverse tethering technique working. Good luck.
Thanks WP. I will give option 2 a go on my linux vm. I have XP, 7 and Linux openSUSE.
Pls help me about how to connect X10 to internet via PC ( windows7 or XP ) ? Thank you very much.

In networking, "ad hoc" is used to describe a (temporary) network between two equal devices. That is without any centralised access point or anything like that.

It's true that untill GB (if I recall correctly) Android doesn't support this type of connection, but it doesn't matter since Connectify creates a regular network (i.e. turns your computer or laptop to a wireless router) istead of creating ad-hoc network, therefore, you should use Connectify

Its quite simple.
there's two ways to do this.
1. Install PDAnet software from the android market in your phone and install the same in your PC. connect the USB cable from your phone to the PC and enable USB tether in PDAnet software. You will have a PDAnet icon in the systems tray in the your PC, right click on it and click on connect. You will be connected to the internet. that's it.
2. This is quite simple compared to other one. install Barnacle USB tether. Keep in mind that this software will work only if your phone's rooted. Install this software from android market. what this software does is that it will make your phone a portable hotspot, it becomes a wireless Router. you can give it a name to your network also enable encryption. turn the wireless on in your PC, scan and connect, you are good to go. you are on internet.
I use the second method, its very easy and simple.
Please don't forget to say thanks, if you like my post.

Hello Everyone! I want to use my Laptop's internet connection via usb cable using my Dell Streak. So I searched for an app that will enable me to do that. While I'm searching and reading all the stuffs that I think that will be the answer to my question, I stumbled upon the word Tether/Tethering.
In which will enable your computer/Laptop to use your Mobile Device's Internet plan or 3g connection. However, what I really wanted was the reverse of this process. I want to use my Laptop's Internet connection. From my laptop connection through USB? or Bluetooth, then to my Dell Streak. So I can surf the Internet using my Mobile device.
I searched the forums already and learned that the latest post for this topic was last 2008. I hope there is already a solution to do this.
Everyone, If you know any apps that I can use please do tell me. Thank you very much!
there aren't any that I know of plus I think it would need to be computer prog not android
There are guides to do it in linux but you need to do it manually I think.

You'll be needing to set up a local network via the wireless connection on your PC.
If you are already on the internet via wifi on the PC, why not use the wifi on the streak?
If you are hooked up via Ethernet/other cable, then broadcasting the connection on the PC's wifi is fairly simple.
Hope this helps.

he wants to do it via usb or bluetooth..
I was able to do this with Linux, but it was a pain and some programs couldn't access the internet. I think only the browser worked.
Would be difficult with usb.It might be easier if you use bluetooth or wifi.
Just go ahead and setup your ad-hoc network or soft-ap on your pc,and make sure you have inter access sharing service or similar software running.
I would recommend you use a wifi soft-ap,it's super easy to setup on winxp/2k/2k3.

I Want to connect my HTC Wildfire S to PC for Access internet on my PC through android mobile phone. like Nokia connect via PC Suit. Can Any one give me appropriate answer.
I use a small free program on my desktop called 'Connectify' compatible with any WiFi device. It works by creating a WiFi hotspot from my wireless usb card to allow me to share my internet connection from desktop to devices. It is the most simple program to install even my not so tech savvy family members can understand it.
I have no knowledge on how to set up WiFi on your phone though, but a quick search on google on how to set up wifi on the wildfire s will net you many answers to that.
You can also install Connectify on your phones and laptops (optional) in order to share their internet connection. If this program isnt suitable I could help set up your WiFi if you have a wireless modem you could tell me the name of.

To share your mobile connection with your PC, you need to use an app called EasyTether. You can download the app here.
EasyTether shares your Android smartphone connection with your PC. This app allows you to tether your Android to a desktop or a notebook computer. EasyTether uses exactly the same data plan that is used for the on-phone Internet access like in the built-in browser or e-mail app or youtube application. No additional tethering fees.
Easytether just works - haven't seen any lags or disconnections yet.
I am not sure what to call this so it is difficult to search for it... what I am wondering is... can I connect my SG2 to PC via usb and use the wired internet connection that way? (For example, at someone's house who doesn't have wireless - so I am not using cell data all the time)
It's generally called reverse tethering. I found a page here on XDA that may help you do what you're wanting to do - [Tool][Windows Only][Root] Android Reverse Tethering
Here's a good example of how to set it up for XP, MAC and Vista. I assume this should apply to Windows 7 as well.

Thanks, guys. I guess I was hoping there was just some setting on the PC and another on the phone and then connect and go. I don't want to install things on on a computer I am just "visiting" for a day or two. I appreciate the quick answers though.
If the PC has a wireless card, you can use that to host an access point for your phone to connect to via wifi.
