[Q] Create custom theme for STOCK MyTouch 4G - myTouch 4G Themes and Apps

I have a stock MyTouch 4G, and I have no real plans to root it.
There is a one person that created a custom theme for the MyTouch 4G called Androidian, great theme, but I am very picky.
I want to create my own for my stock phone and wanted to know if anyone has any resources they can point me too.
Thanks,

Did you even read my question or is your default answer to just use that site?
Did you actually TRY and Google creating themes for MyTouch 4G? If I wanted to create themes for stock Android, there are plenty of how-to's, but I was talking about the STOCK Themes for a STOCK MyTouch 4G, not using MetaMorph or needing root.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that its possible to create new themes for mysense at the moment, so the only way to do it would be to root your phone and either create a metamorph or modify the frameworks yourself. Either way requires root since you'll be modifying system files.
You mentioned the androidian theme. That also requires root to install I believe because its replacing some system files. Again, take this with a grain of salt since I dont pay much attention to the stock rom, and couldn't live without root.

Any themes for a non third party UI needs to have root access. AWDLauncher, Launcher Pro all of themes because they are 3rd party. It's easy to lay new icons into those.
It is physically impossible to theme w/o messing with files that need root access.
So yes i did read your post, no it cannot be done.

The Androidian theme does not need root access to install. It's in the market and uses stock theme picker to apply.

You can modify the stock themes but like the others said it requires root to pull the apk out and be able to modify it. Somehow Fyb3roptic did it and I'm pretty sure he did just that. I'd try e-mailing him and see how he did it.

To the same capacity that the stock OTA update does, see Chiefz's thread for more information.
so this is a 2.1 correct?

I think all freely available apps should be left out. They can all be installed afterwords... Even swype to be honest.
Downloading atm i'll letcha know anything i can think of though...
I think if you have the ability to you should try and port over Amon-RAs recovery from the hero g1... It has a Console in the recovery kernel...
I'm going to try and figure that out but it'll be a long time before I get anywhere. Haha.
that's not really related to THIS rom persay but I think would be awesome cause then we can manipulate /system/app while in recovery rather than requiring adb...
The rom itself... i'll get to you after i play with it :x
Wifi tethering included doesn'twork I had to replace it with this one to get it going...
Any idead if we can get some froyo apps working on this? I would like to have the froyo gmail and google talk app on it.
Using it and liking it very much, excellent job. I don't, suppose it has live wallpapers?
any luck on wire(less) tethering?

Just add the files for live wallpaper support and your good to go!

I second that! Id much rather use amonRA if it were possible just cus its setup correctly for the way our a2sd works. It still uses /system/sd/, where clockwork is setup to use /sd-ext/. Ill gladly help test it out!

Well there is a lot of bloatware.
Peeps, stocks, mymodes, friend stream, so many more I can't remember.
I've also noticed some of my videos in my gallery don't show a preview. It is a white image and it looks like it may be currupt but it still plays.
I did downgrade from a froyo rom so that may be a problem. I did everything I normally do to install a rom...

Aren't those part of the reason people still use Espresso? Besides those fancy widgets?
Ill make another version with EVERYTHING unnecessary removed.
instead of adding the mymode themes maybe you can add a separate update with the themes in it..I love the espresso interface because of the theme and the genus button...

Hmm, perhaps. Any reason other than because? They aren't stored on /data so they don't take up application space.

Is there a way to theme the stock rom?

All I want to do is modify the framework to give me the percent battery and also change the notifications. Can I use the framework on the stock Rom to change that since I'm rooted or do I have to have a different Rom that's modified?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Try the question and answer section please!
Yes you can, just do a backup before you attempt the changes and backup the original Framework-res.apk somewhere.
By back up some may wanna say nandroid or nand but we are NOT running Amon Ra anymore so lets drop the Nand..... Its kind of a slap in the face to the folks at Clockwork. And who let us root???????
THANKS CWM TEAM!
Sorry normally would have put it in there but figured it would be better in the development forum...mods feel free to move since it would be better in there

I honestly think a sticky at the top of each forum for questions would make things easier for everyone to find and help the lazy. But the one in the development section was closed and they refereed everyone to Q and A. I wasnt trying to be rude. And I dont mind helping, its just hard to find apps and themes amongst all the questions.
Ya I usually don't post easy questions like this but I tried to find somewhere that talked about the stock Rom and framework but didn't find much. Love the Rom since it was the same Rom I used on my G2 but it was Evils custom rom. Hard to go back to stock when your used to modifying your own images lol
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I hear that, its no fun if its not custom.
Did you see my thread on changing the android on the usb connect screen? Its also done through the framework. I would post link but I'm mobile. :/
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Nope haven't looked into it right now, since I just switched from the G2 I was going to read up on everything before but it seems like most of the G2 stuff is almost the same as the myTouch 4G so I'll be able to just go to town lol. If I do anything new I'll definitely add it to the pot once I get something good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852013
You can't actually change the notifications pane with that, but there are notification icons and the percentage battery changes there. I just use the silver circle one and left the rest stock, nice b&w feel to it.
More complex changes require a deodexed ROM like IG, CM6/7, eViL's MIUI, etc.
Is there a stock rom that's been deodexed? That's all I'm looking for right now but I'm not finding anything

Im told that Iced Glacier is pretty much a faster version of the stock rom. (I havent tried it myself)
However if you are just trying to change the Icons in the status bar you dont need to be deodexed to use the mods in the link previously mentioned. Im running stock rom with one of those mods myself currently
Ya I was able to change the notification icons, signal, battery...only thing I couldn't do without having FC issues was change the battery into a percent. Even with those mods on the link I was getting FC issues

if you look on the market, there is one called androidian. also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016227 is another one, its a classic expresso theme. but other than that you are better off rooting, installing a rom (personally ive always thought the best is the cyanogen mod team, but team royal is good also). but next time, search. there are a few of these topics around, one even by myself before i went ahead and rooted mine.

From what I've heard it's incredibly difficult to really theme the Stock ROM other than changing the colors. *shrugs*
It's crazy, man.
T-Mobile theme engine can be compared to the Awesome MetaMorph program. But it does not require root to be able to theme your rom.
I am currently conducting experiments to add more edits to the standard theme template.
Should I open a thread to involve the community in the progression of the theme-ing process of the MT4G roms not requiring root? Let me know!

Any news on this? I would love to see what you could pull off with this
Baby steps
I haven't tried to add to the standard theme yet.
I will try these edits when I begin an AOSP theme.
I have been working on perfecting editing first.
I have a Sense UI theme also coming soon.
I have other themes coming from contributing themers.
Also, about the new thread, I am brainstorming the structure and goals of the thread...

[Q] skins/themes`

Is there a difference between a skin and a theme.
Skins are usually apk and themes are flashed.
Themes will change the dynamics of the entire look of your GUI. A skin changes the background and launcher look.

Can we use themes on a custom rom? Especially with some of the Rosies and lockscreens that have been modified. Will the skins graphics conflict with thosen
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Themes are usually made for specific type of Rom ie (sense) and so on. Make sure thw theme you're flashing is compatible with the Rom.
^_^_^'s tbolt
So do you need to be rooted to load a skin/theme? As a non-rooted newb, is the wallpaper the only real thing I can change?

Theme yes, Skin no. There are several skins on the forum that non rooted users can download and enjoy.

[Q] CM7 ICS Theme - zipthemer .zips won't flash in system recovery

So my X2 is now running CM7, and i've been trying to get the the ICS theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310925) to work, but I've run into some issues. I installed the CM7 ICS theme app from the market, but now I have to flash ICSmorph.zip using zipthemer. However, when I try to configure zipthemer's edify scripting using the CM7 zip, I just get an error message saying "Failed to find system mount/unmount commands in updater-script." I'm new to all this stuff, so I have no idea what that means. Either way, if I try to build the flashable zip anyway without configuring it and flash it in System Recovery, I just get a generic "Error in ICSmorph.zip" message.
The only place I've heard anyone else have this problem is here (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/cyanogenmod/30235-how-use-zipthemer-install-any-cm7-mod.html), but that's only for the original droid x. They mention mounting /system using CWM recovery to get the zips to flash, but the x2 version of CM7 has a slightly different recovery, and /system is already mounted for me... I'm completely stumped. Like I said, I'm new to this, so if I'm missing something really obvious, feel free to call me an idiot, but I know other x2's have been able to get this ICS theme working on their phones. Anyone got any ideas?
I think you are going through too much trouble. Once you download the theme from the market, you go into the theme chooser that should already be installed on your phone. From there, you pick the theme and apply it. Thats all.

This... All you have to do is open theme chooser app and choose your theme and apply. The cm7 themes on the market aren't flashable zips.

Morphs are like themes for you themes. It modifies your themed apks and ui's. Try changing the update script in the zip or putting one in if there isn't one.

I know. I've done that, and it changes most things to the ICS theme, but some things haven't changed. I don't have those wifi/gps/bluetooth/etc toggle switches, and the toggles that drop down in the notification slider are still the same as they were before I changed the theme. The google search is still the same, too. If you look at the first post on the thread about it, there are attachments (including the icsmorph.zip that I mentioned.) In the FAQ, they say to use zipthemer to apply the full morph. I can live with things the way they are right now, I just really wanted to know why it wasn't working like it should.

Like I said it sounds like a problem with the updater script. System has to be mounted as rw.

Oh, sorry about that. Try what CadenH suggested.
Thank you so much guys! I wasn't really sure how to mount /system as rw, but I found an app that did it for me. Tried using zipthemer again, this time the zip flashed no problem. It didn't actually change anything though, so I have no clue how they did it. Oh well, guess I don't absolutely need it to be perfect. But anyway, thanks again everyone.
I'm glad you got it to work
