Were you running a custom rom? Had you installed the 2.2 market? Sounds like you had the 2.2 market and reverting to stock put the eclair market back. I would suggest DLing the market apk from the tips and tricks thread and installing it.

I wasn't running any other rom but stock. I didn't even download the 2.2 market so I don't even know how I got it before

I tried to root my Streak with Android 2.2 using previous patches. The result was a locked phone that didn't want to start anymore. So eventually I completely restored it and it's working again.
Has anyone managed to successfully root Android 2.2 on the Streak? If so, please let me know.
Z4root from the market is working fine. Try that.

Thanks, works great.
Had to download it manually though as I couldn't find it on the market.

z4root version 1.3.0 doesn't seem to work for my streak... are there any other options?
(universal androot doesn't work either)
I tried z4root and universal androot and both of those did not with for me on 2.2. Looking for another option as well.

Any option for those of us with a Mac or any other option to do it right from the phone?
I wasn't able to get SuperOneClick, z4Root or Universal Androot working after upgrading to the official 12821 build which came down in the 318 package posted on the Dell website. So I borrowed DJ Steve's boot.img, flashed it (with fastboot), applied Universal Androot a couple of times as usual and now it's rooted. Steve's boot.img is in the zip file at
android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/325889/streakdroid-1-5-1-release-post/
(sorry, it's my first post so they won't allow links yet...)
(I started off with a Dell Streak on 1.6 when I got a Dell Streak from O2 here in the UK as a replacement in August when I lost my Xperia. The upgrade to 2.1 messed it up so I've been following both Steve and Dell. It's been quite a ride, but I have to hand it to Steve, he's kept it interesting, been patient with the questions, kept my phone in better condition better than Dell and O2 and I've learned a lot in the process. Cheers, Steve. So, now I have the official Dell 2.2, rooted and about to put Clockwork-mod back on. I look forward to the next part of the journey. A donation to Steve is on it's way. Merry Christmas.)
usb debugging mode
I couldn't get any of the root programs to work, until I went to settings, applications, development and enabled usb debugging. Might be worth a try.

Superoneclick has a mac option. Requires you to download mono. Long downliad but handy to have. Rooted mine on a macbook with no issues.

Do you have a guide for using it on the mac? I downloaded mono but wheno I ran sudo mono superoneclick.exe it errored out.

Any ideas anyone?
Did you try version 1.5.4 of superoneclick ? the newest version didn't work but 1.5.4 did
When I went from 315 to 318 all I did was download the update.pkg ( in androids stock browser)from dell and android installed it and all my data stayed intact. Now my question is will that method work if I want to go to 345?
http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=9441
what is the benefit of going to 345 from 318?
Sorry to be such a noob! but what is the benefit of of going to 345 from 318?
If you use the stage ui it has updates in 345 which most people say make it better. I don't use stage.
The android version is 2.2.2 so you will benefit from any bugfixes to android.
It actually runs very smooth and stable. The quadrant scores aren't as good as a custom rom or 318 with the performance fix, but in real world use it works very well IMO.
The biggest drawback, to me, is that nandroid backups using streak droid or clockwork mod do not work.
If you are on a ROM that nandroid backups work It is easy to revert if you don't like 345 using your backup.
fully agree with marvino2's comments....only i went from 319 to 345....not had a single problem...its really slick....and like marvin....i dont use the new Stage UI but only because of the landscape overlap...otherwise i would. easy to root but had to install busybox from the market..
and as stated (just like in my 319) no fix for nandroid backup yet...but not a big issue as titanium did all the hard work for me!
Did you guys receive the market update after installing 345?

Yeah - I went back and forth between 345 and Streakdroid 1.9.1 a couple of times, so I have installed 345 a total of three times.
The first and last time I got the market update right away - used the market once and when I went back the second time it was updated.
The second install it took a while for the market to update itself.

I can confirm that I am able to do nandroid backup for 345. Before I can't, nandroid kept sticking on backing up firstboot, what I did was reformatted my sdcard, made a nandroid backup of 1.9.0 first, reinstalled 345 2.2.2, set up google acct, installed all my apps, after I finished setting up my streak, tried to do a nandroid backup of 345, and it worked, I have done 3 backups and all worked. Hope the same thing will for otherd.

I'd like to hear the answers from the question the op asked, can the update be run from android itself as I just did with the 318 update?
Are there any known bugs with 345 and does it run faster than 318 without the performance tweaks?
Also, any apparent changes in the battery life for 345? And can it be rooted with superoneclick as I did with 315 and will be doing with 318?
Thanks!

I don't know, I didn't do it that way. I installed 345 using the 345 recovery from recovery mode.

I haven't found any bugs yet. Speed as determined by Quadrant scores is almost the same as stock 318, but it just seems to work smoother and have less glitches.

I downloaded the flashtool and the folder for 2.1,which is on my pc desktop. How do I combine the two folders? Haven't extracted flashtool yet.
And how do I keep all the apps I have, even the pre- installed apps, then go back and delete the ones I don't want?
Have Titanium backup download in the mobile. Also purchased SD micro sd 8GB card. Can I back apps onto sd card?
All help and advice is appreciated,I am a novice at this,so I DO NOT want to brick my mobile, paid too much for it! !
Thank-you.

Go here for a guide...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Although you want to keep your preinstalled apps, if you flash to the generic 2.1 you are basically debranding your phone and all the preinstalled apps will be removed. You could try "my backup root" but im not too sure if it will work. Plus it's nearly impossible to brick your phone..just make sure you follow the guide.
Flashing Xperia
Wow;
This is so cool!! Thank you ever so much for the link and the advice. Another question;do you think I can redownload some of the at&t apps?
There's only a select few you can probably get back from the market for free. But most of the AT&Ts apps can easily be replaceable with other free and probably better apps from the market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746- probably more help for flashtool

Now,I gave a trial run,And think the flash MIGHT be successful. Now,I have Titanium, will this backup my current apps,or do I have to re-download them? And what about my browser bookmarks? Am I able to keep the oned I have now? Oh And I have a brand-new SanDisk 8GB micro sd card, should I put that into the mobile?
Any and all suggestions are helpful, and thank-you once again for the advice and help!!

Did all the downloads, are followed the instructions to the tee about combining the generic firmware into the firmware file,or something of that nature. A little nervous about flashing, but I'm going to do it. After flashing, should I use SEPC Companion to update OS to update OS?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
If i understand u, if u flash with flashtool, u want to flash over with pc comanion? If thats the case, u dont need to because u already picked the firmware with the baseband u wanted. So once u used flashtool u r done.
I saw u got titanium backup. U know your phone must be rooted right to use it? U can use flashtool to root too after u flashed the 2.1 update

It looks like you're on the right path, but here's a step by step guide that will answer all your questions especially for AT&T X10a.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012380
You can't use Titanium Backup until after you have rooted. Instead use Mybackup, free in the Market.
Yes,I believe so. And yes,I know I can root AND have SUPERONECLICK up and running. Boy,I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!! Guess I am becoming tech savvy after all.
If you can, give me reasons WHY I should root. Once you reply, will give it a go.
And really, thank-you so much for your help and guidance, couldn't have done it without it

Wow!! Goosebumps!! Thanks for the link,a fantastic thread. Will take both of your advice:download mybackup, put it fresh,brand-new 8GB micro sd,and backup apps. If you think it is also advisable to root, will do that also. For the ROM,what do YOU advise? That is what you change when rooting, correct?
Your info has been DO VERY VALUABLE, THANK-YOU EVER SO MUCH!!

Rooting allows you to remove preinstalled SE system apps that you don't use, like Timescape and Face Recognition, which will greatly increase performance. It also allows you to enable JIT (optimize), and install xRecovery. See the guide I linked above for safe system apps to remove.
I cannot believe it!! I did the root, when I sort of whacked my phone up,SE PC Companion came to the rescue.
It is like having a new mobile!! The changes are major, same withthe apps, but I certainly live with the changed.
Now,how do I get rid of Mocked,by rooting? I don't need it,so I wouldlike to delete it.
Thank you for your guidance, advice and help. Wouldn't have done it without it!!

I used the LG software tool to update my Optimus T from Froyo 2.2, LG-P509-V10l to 2.2.2, LG-P509-V10S. Now I can't get it re-rooted. In both v10l and the one before that, I was able to easily use z4root to gain root access. Now z4root starts, but closes a few seconds later without completing. Have also tried Universal Androot and Super One Click 1.91. Both fail. SuperOneClick doesn't offically fail, it sees the phone just fine, but never gets past "Running psneuter."
I had used the LG software tool once before to upgrade to v10l and all went well. Only issue with v10l was very slow performance using wifi. This new version, v10s seems to have fixed that, but includes more "crapware" than ever before AND has a new self-starting app called Wifi Calling that tries to ram wifi calling down your throat if you are connected that way. You gotta manually disable it (opt out) to stop it from automtically sending your calls AND texts over wifi! And then it has the nerve to inform you that wifi calls still count against your minutes!!!
Any idea why this new sw version is breaking three different rooting methods?
z4root does not work for Android 2.2.1 or later. Gingerbreak is what you need. It is great and easy. I rooted my Optimus T with it.
Hey, thanks for the heads up! I'll give Gingerbreak a try and post my results later.

PS It is better to freeze apps rather than delete them. Just in case.

ROMs based on stock GB only. Unless you are told that you need a new baseband for the ROM, it will NOT work. Read the instructions for the ROM.
