SD Card Mounting Problem after A2SD (I think) - Optimus One, P500, V General

It all started out with a simple root, flashing of recovery, and a flash of Megatron to my friend's Optimus T. It was great, the rom was fast, snappy, and much smoother than before. No problems......until my friend switched SD cards.
I am aware that messes up the ext4 partition of apps on the phone. Well, my friend switched back to the regular SD card, and it still didn't work. Soon, he started to get weird issues, such as the the boot animation switching back to the stock Android one from the sketch animation in Megatron. I told him to wipe data and cache, and told me that it didn't work. So, I have his phone right now, including a bit of headache.
The problem: The SD card refuses to mount on his phone. His phone boots up and all, but force closes after finishing the Setup Wizard with the message "The application 'Setup Wizard' closed unexpectantly" or something like that. And there was a black screen after that with nothing able to be accessed. The status bar still displayed, with the notification "SD Card is removed" or something along those lines. I suspected at first a data/cache/dalvik wipe would fix it, but to no prevail. In the recovery (using RA-thunderg-1.1.0-GNM), whenever I try to flash a zip, the following error appears:
E:Can't mount /dev/blocl/mmcblk0 p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)(No such file or directory)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:
Also, when partitioning the SD card, the recovery says that it has succeded, but in reality, it hasn't. Also, converting ext2 to ext3 does not work and displays:
Error : Run 'fs ext3' via adb!
and for ext3 to ext4:
Error : Run 'fs ext4' via adb!
To add, the USB-MS option doesn't work either, as the Removable Disk does not show up in Windows.
I've also tried using a blank SD card that was freshly formatted: didn't work.
So it all boils down to the SD card not mounting.
Any solutions? I'm kinda responsible for this as I told my friend to do this, but I never expected such a problem. I am an experienced Android user as I've flashed, rooted, adb, and etc on a Droid Eris, Droid, Droid X, Samsung Continuim, and currently the Samsung Fascinate. The hardest problem I've encountered is dealing with Samsung's RFS issue, but I've gotten over that now. This is beyond anything I've seen.
Hopefully the community around here can help me as I've been trying to solve this for a few days now. Thanks for enduring through such a long post!
(P.S. All SD card's used are the stock Samsung Class 2 2GB that comes with the phone.)

Change the sd or try fresh format and reflash.

As said before, even with different SD cards, the card will not mount, and therefore I'm unable to flash anything from the SD card.

only possible reason for what's,happening would be that you didnt follow the procedures correctly, I recomend u reflash stock rom and do all the procedures for flashing a custom rom correctly this time..

I flashed the rom correctly, and it worked perfectly until my friend switched SD cards, so I'm pretty sure I followed the procedures correctly.
Edit: Would you mind linking me to a stock reflash of the phone? Can't seem to find it....

[Q] nand restore freezing

crap. i flashed some new roms tonight, but decided to go back to my previous rom. did a nand back up before. now after nand restore the boot animation for aloysius starts and goes for about 5-10 seconds. freezes and then restarts again. i never seen it do this before and have loaded it several times.
its really random and freezes, starts over again, freezes etc.
have wiped, restored and same thing over and over.
your sd card may be corrupted, try mounting your phone sd card then running chkdsk in windows on the card; go to my computer --> right click sd card --> properties --> tools --> check disk for errors (or something like that, i use Ubuntu) good luck!

Thanks Tereg,
I ran the disk check in windows and it said the disk is healthy.
still can't seem to flash any cynagon or froyo roms.
would a 16 gb sdhc sd card yield better results? My plan is to format the new card to fat32 no partitions and try loading a cynagon or froyo rom.
i did the engineering bootloader and now am running 1.49 s-off. i am rooted and can successfully run aloysius, evil eris, any of the vanilla roms. but any 2.2 or cynagon roms just either freeze during the boot stage or boot loop.
my phone runs great oc'd to 710 on aloysius v12. snappy, very little lag. i'm fine with this rom, but reading and seeing the screen shots of the froyo type roms i want to try them out. any other ideas what could be causing this on my phone? and if the sd card is healthy, what would be the next thing to look at? could the hardware on my phone be bad?
I tried all the froyo roms before discovering aloysius. Aloysius is faster by a mile and all your stuff will work. On froyo you'll lose camera and other stuff and get quirky odd crap happening. I'll never move off of aloysius.

Try Formatting the card, since any froyo or CM roms have apps2sd built in there may be an issue with the current partition.
The Froyo rom I'm using works great, and if you look at the cyanogen twitter page you'll see there is a camera fix now.

this phone is really starting to piss me off.
i inserted the usb cable to mount the sd card as a disk drive. wouldn't come up under windows, the notification bar on the phone didn't show any options for usb charging or mount as disk drive. nothing. then the phone reboots.
- goes thru the boot animation for about 5-6 seconds. freezes, then starts back up again.
this has happened so many times before and each time the only way to fix it was to reflash the rom and reload all of my settings/wallpapers etc. nand restore won't work anymore either.
i have wasted so much time with this phone. most of it f'ing around with roms etc. but now i just need it to work as a phone and it won't even start up.

[Q] idiot (me) w/ empty sdcard & inaccessible ext-sd, can't get anywhere

My Vibrant's internal sdcard was reporting corruption, so I put a fresh ROM (Macnut 12) on the external SD, rebooted into Clockwork, and formatted the SDcard, system & data partitions. Then went to install the ROM, but it turned out it wouldn't recognize the ext-sd card either! I get this error when i try to mount:
Code:
E:INFO is WRONGError mounting SDEXT:!
I've tried a different ext-sd, and even tried formatting that one on the computer (MBR partition scheme, FAT partition). Nothing is recognized by the phone.
Also when I try "mount USB storage" nothing shows up on my desktop either.
SO: I have an almost empty phone, and no way of putting any ROM whatsoever on there. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
note: i have a Mac, so AFAIK ODIN doesn't work for me.
I'm in "Clockwork 2.5.1.0 lagfix edition", and was previously rocking Eugene's Macnut R12 with the JFS+RFS lagfix.
thanks!

I also use a mac. You need to be careful how you delete and format your sd cards. I just deleted some stuff off my sd card by dragging it into the trash and it didnt free up any space on the sd card. I have also seen problems with formatting them with the mac also. Also ODIN is a great way to put things back to stock. you will need to use bootcamp to install windows on the partition. If I weere you I would still ODIN back to stock and reflash to make sure you dont have errors in the future
Format sd card through clockworkmod recovery. Itll wipe everything, but it should bring it back to being usable. Also heimdall works with mac right? I havent used heimdall but read its an open source rom flasher replacement for odin.

I was going to suggest Heimdall as well. You should be able to flash back to a stock firmware, then sort things out from there. If you want to do that and then report back here, we could help from there.
Information about Heimdall is available in this thread along with a link to download the program.
Good luck.

[Q] Cant mount sd card to phone. Need help PLEASE

I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems

[Q] Vibrant With 0.00B Available to Applications? Bricked?

Hi everyone,
In my overzealous attempts to reformat an old 4gb external SD card through CW Recovery, I managed to reformat my internal SD card (I was using the Clockwork Recovery version 2.5). I thought that "format sd card" would reformat my external memory card and not leave me without a usable phone, but I guess I misunderstood.
I spent at least five hours going through all of the ODIN tutorials and trying them out, and found that using Eugene's 2.2 with 2E recovery ROM actually allows me to boot up (hooray! ), while the stock rom from this thread simply forces a bootloop on my poor phone, with occasional freezes. Even using AIO's "Flash to Stock" from Eugene's 2.2 doesn't work.
Further searching has lead to the thread about partitioning using parted, which has been hard for me to use effectively (I made a new partition, but I couldn't get it to mount properly).
I was really excited to come across this tutorial, but it didn't solve my problem. After getting through all of the steps, at step 5, ODIN3 versions 1.0, 1.7, and 1.81 (I tried all 3 on 3 different walk-throughs of the tutorial) never were actually capable of repartitioning the sdcard properly. Every time after the first time of using "parted" to reduce the card to a single partition, I found that that lone partition was always the only one there (15.5 gb /SYSTEM Fat32). No changes had been made to the sd card's partitions.
I don't know if it helps any, but the ROM I was running before I reformatted the card was Bi-Winning 3.0, and Voodoo had not been disabled at the time of the reformat, which may be why I can't flash new ROMs through the recovery as well.
As near as I can tell, ODIN can't actually return my vibrant's partitions to factory settings, so is there a way for me to do that manually? I think that would solve my problem.
Thanks,
-NewbieCube
My guide (you linked to) clearly states its not for this intent... if you read it, you would also see I linked to Eugenes froyo that does not brick. If you did it, THEN you did my guide ODIN to JFD, you are on a fully functional stock 2.1 JFD build.
If your intent was to just format the external sd, go to menu settings, sd card/phone storage, unmount the external and format it.
Right, I know that. In fact I read all through your thread and tried to flash to Eugene's first, and then to JFD, but JFD does not boot properly. It just gives me a black, unresponsive screen. I'll definitely go back through once more and try that again, though, as you clearly know what you're talking about.
I basically formatted the wrong storage (internal sd vs external sd), and would like to get that internal back to stock, so you are right that Eugenes -> JFD should work. I'll report back with results.
^ yeah, exactly... that should work with no issues. let me know if it does not.
Oddly enough, that didn't work for me either. Since my phone still can boot into Eugene's (albeit with 0.00B available to apps), I know this should work, just from reading through your guide. So once more, here's what I did:
1. Download mode -> ODIN 1.70: Flash Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.tar.md5, and s1_odin_20100512.pit (from Eugene) Re-Partition NOT checked (Eugene's thread says not to)
2. Boot up into Unbrickable Froyo, with no application space remaining Mount sdcard and move Update.zip (s15274n's) into the root folder without issue.
3. Download mode -> ODIN 1.70: Flash s1_odin_20100512.pit, and T959UVJFD.tar (s15274n's) with Re-Partition checked
4. Boots once automatically into recovery, saying something about a failed MBR checksum and failure to clear userdata
5. Bootloops that never get past the VIBRANT logo screen
6. Boot into recovery and try deleting user data and cache data manually and to reinstall packages, but bootloops continue.
I really don't know what I'm doing wrong here...
UPDATE:
I even used Heimdall on another computer and got the same result, so it isn't ODIN. Why is reformatting the internal SD card to stock so difficult to do?

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! ...by random chance
For my problem, it was indeed the voodoo lagfix that was messing things up, and this post:

[Q] Newly rooted--sd card issues

Awesome newb video by the way! Made me laugh...
Just rooted and I like it, I don't wanna go back, but I can't get the microsd to pick up...I'll give all the info I can--def newb to root/droid but my background is IT, so hopefully we can figure out how to fix it so I can keep the root and not go back to stock(if that would even repair the problem)
Got a pny 32G microSD, droid incredible 4g lte(Verizon) that I rooted using the unlock script and fakeCID and then loaded Vipers Venom LTE custom rom...somewhere in this process-I think right after unlocking-it quit accessing the sd card...I've looked around and read some things about this 'USB brick' thing, but I don't know if it's applicable to me...here's what it does now:
SD card is in phone, but under 'Storage' Total Space and Available show unavailable, and everything else is greyed. If I try and pull the card the phone gives me the 'sd card unexpectedly removed' error.
Windows XP has no issue reading/writing to this card with a card reader. I've formatted a few times fat32 with xp(which i hate doing)and put it back in the phone, with the phone off, booted, and nothing happens. Oddly, when it first happened, after installing the custom ROM, when I'd do this procedure the phone would see the card on boot, but stay forever on 'preparing sd card/checking for errors' and never complete.
Back on the phone side of things, booting into the 'recovery mode', where you flash and whatever, it can see the card, see it's contents, and I wrote some sort of log to the card(option in the menu), so it can access it...oddly, I could not load my Viper rom from the microsd card, it failed on the file, but put it under some folder on the phone and that's how i ended up flashing the ROM, which I was nervous about doing as everything I saw said put the rom on the external sd card...
If I plug the phone into the XP pc via usb cable, choose use as disk drive, no problem accessing phone data, but 'please insert disk' on the card. Cannot push data when in usb debug mode via adb commands either. Oddly, dunno if this is related, it gives me 2 drives and also a CD ROM drive--tried dialing that##7 number for the option to disable cd rom, but it was already disabled. Dunno if this is related, but throwing it in there.
Tried chkdsk on the sd card with Xp, no errors, no problems. Hell, the card's not two weeks old and I've only had the phone a little over a month. I've done a bit of research the past couple of days and the only thing I haven't tried is the very confusing procedure i've seen for some of these 'usb brick' problems, but is that my problem. I'm hoping if all else fails i can go back to stock, just downloaded the stock rom, but will that even fix it? Gots to have my trailer park boys on my sd card to watch! Thanks for the help guys and gals! Sorry for the long post, but I like to give info--if kernel version or any other data like that is required, I can post it.

i tried to slim down your quote, but from my experience i'd still say the sd-card is somehow busted! i had a similar prob with the SD card in my Dinc4G two weeks ago. i _was_ r/w quite fine even from custom rom and at one point, the card just quit. removing and reinserting just ended in "preparing sd-card" and directly after that "safe for removal" ... wasn't able to access it any more within Viper, recovery (TWRP for me) was still seeing the card fine just like on your end.
putting the SD-card into a Win-laptop it _appeared_ fine and came error-free with scandisk etc ... BUT when i tried to backup all data from it before formatting (had like 10G on my 16G card) there were a couple of files that failed to read and i could NOT recover at all anymore. I formatted the SD-card again after that (full format, not fast/quick!) ... and put most of the files back. it is working again now in my Dinc4G but the card sure has some defect sectors (and usually _tends to die soon_ after such errors appear first!
i'd heavily recommend that you try to source some other micro-sd card first and try if you custom rom can read from it again. if that works fine and you see your SD-card from within the settings menu in the rom. you can be pretty sure that it's really the card.
PS: even brand new mem cards tend to fail at times :cyclops: ... just try to erase all private data on it (means: _fully overwrite_ with other stuff until the card is completelly filled) ... and then try to get a replacement from where you got your (fairly new) SD card from.
hope that helps a bit
i agree with the above post... try a different card. if formatting it doesn't fix it, it's time to try a new card.
