[Q] about data/user apps - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I switch to a new ROM wipe my cache/data yaadaa yaadaa, then when I'mon the new ROM can I go back into CWM and go into advanced restore can I restore just my data will I get back all my apps and data and everything will be good? As long as my backup and new ROM are both EB01?

For just restoring Apps and the data when switching between roms, I recommend.....no, HIGHLY recommend Titanium Backup. Not only does this app backup apps and the data of the apps, it also backups the market cache, so on the market, the app would list as being installed. It's incredibly useful. It also allows you to uninstall system apps by the way.

I know that and that's not what I'm getting at, I don't want to get titainium backup pro and the regular titainium backup takes forever to restore because u have to hit install for every app and its very tidious sooooo, I came to the conclusion since its in my backup files why can't I just restore it from there because its just one click and no hassle... but I want to know if that works.
P.S. I have titainium... and mybackup root too...

It is tedious, but in my case worth it. I have not used MyBackup Root in app backups, but you can try.

It may have apps that are specific to the previous ROM. I've done it and it can work but if its a differnt ROM it can cause problems. try it and see.
Personally I'd save up the 6 bucks and buy Tibkup if you are going to flash ROMS Titanium Backup is going to be one (if not the one) most used application you will use. If you can't part with the 6 bucks get MyBackup Root I don't think it prompts you for restores but I could be wrong (I haven't' used it since I bought TB)

It doesn't always work. Titanium Pro is worth it if you're going to be flashing multiple ROMs. The time saved will equal much more than $6.

did i miss something? Batch Restore your app people....in the full licensed version, pay the money...it deserves it...phenominal app....only must have app i have come across since I've owned my original Droid....worked even when I switched to the Inc, and copied the backup folder over...(Apps+Data only, obviously no system stuff)
is that what you're getting at on post#3...pay the money and forget about worrying...I always wipe everything between roms, even updates to the one i'm running...then TiBU after flashing new rom...takes a couple minutes and I'm back up and running...even with Go Launcher, homescreens are backed up minus widgets

This post has nothing to do with TiBU at all, and its not the purpose, I just want to know if I can take the data from a backup and install it with my new rom?

It does have something to do with tibkup if you want to restore your data. You've been told basically NO to your OP and to use tibk. If you don't want to listen why ask?

I already know about tibu, loomi.g for an even easyer way thoo...

Which would be to BUY titanium Backup Pro or MyBackup Root
Other than that you can take a chance and restore /data or if your on 2.2 or higher let Google restore all your apps from the cloud but a lot of ROMs don't seem to auto restore.

Stop being cheap. It's worth it.

Stop being a douchh I alreadyy did.

Clockwork Mod

Greetings all. I have a Samsung Vibrant currently. I've done several clockwork mod backups, and I'm considering going to the Verizon Fascinate. Since they are both running 2.1, will the clockwork mod recovery install my current apks/apps? If not, can someone recommend the best way for me to not loose the 170+apps I have on this current Tmobile phone? Thanks for replies.
I would suggest MyBackupPro which will back up even your text messages etc. In order to transfer the data from one phone to another you must buy the full version. If you want just your applications I would say Titanium Backup and wait until the Fascinate achieves root in just a few short days and then VIOLA! I would also recommend donating to the Dev for his awesome app and hard work, it's easily one of my favorite apps when it comes to flashing custom roms.

What s/he said. I would only use this for user apps + data and not system apps. It might work with system apps, but I personally will wait for someone else to dive in before I try.
Ya clockwork wouldn't work, it most likely would just error out but there is a chance you would brick your phone

How can I save app data through updating ROMs?

I want to have all my apps data ( like game saves, login info etc) saved when I flash a ROM update. It's a huge pain to manually re-setup EVERYTHING. Apps and contacts come back which is awesome but all the apps and settings are all back to square one..

I'm sure you could use root explorer to save the configuration files for these apps and reload them later with root explorer as well... but... you might create glitches or issues with the new rom... (aka it will end up being slow or have FC s)

Titanium Backup will save all of your app data and settings...once your apps are backed up, flash a new rom, download titanium from the market and use it to restore all of your apps with their data

Just so u know there is a FREE version of titanium backup on the Android market...
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
You don't have to pay for titanium backup (though in my opinion you should support Android developers). The free version does it too (unless something has changed since I last used the free version). You just can't do it in a batch which is much easier.

Saw this thread and downloaded the free version of titanium backup to try it out before buying the pro version. but when i try to backup my apps and user data with a scheduled backup, it fc's before finishing the backup. Will this happen with the pro version as well? or is there any way to fix it?

I've never had issues backing up or restoring apps with Titanium free or paid version. Are you using other apps while it's creating the backup? Personally, I don't do scheduled backups. I only backup just before flashing a new rom so that I know everything is current.

well with the free version you cant do a batch backup, so i ran a scheduled backup from the schedule screen. i reinstalled the app, and it seemed to run fine. thanks for the response though, much appreciated.

Yes you can. You can do batch back ups and batch restores. The only differences I've noticed between the free and paid versions are:
Free - Only schedule one back up at a time. When running a batch restore, it stops on every app and you must approve to restore them. Special services disabled
Paid - Schedule unlimited backups. Restoring a batch does not require approving each app. Special features, such as Market Doctor, are enabled.
Sent from my Floyo Tazz using XDA App
^ Bro - If you have to click on every app to restore, one by one... that isn't really "batch" mode, by definition
Get the paid version, well worth it, and nice to support the dev of such a well made and valuable app.
I wouldnt be caught flashing/changing roms without it !
For ppl that have trouble with Titanium Backup, try My Backup Pro. It sometimes works when TTB will not.
It's still a batch restore selection. And it restores app data as well. Only it prompts you on every app and asks if you'd like to install it.But yes, I agree, the paid version is a must.

on the pro version there is a new feature to backup apps to a flashable zip file, which should make the whole restore process super fast. You can just flash a new rom then flash your apps with data back and not have to do manual restoring.
I haven't tried it yet though.

It has been quite a while since I used it, but as I recall, in the free version you have to manually approve each install, so it is a bit of a process. I prefer just to let Google restore all my apps and then use TiBu to selectively restore data to certain "critical" apps.
With the basic version TiBu will ask you to approve each app individually. The Pro version does it as one big batch, which is much easier. Download the free version and then pay for and download the Pro without uninstalling the free one.
the best way to back up a phone is to put it in the bed of a pick up truck. Get in. put the truck in reverse and step on the gas.

[Q] best way to restore apps using Titanium Backup

I just joined the root game with the purchase of the Rezound so i never learned how to backup and restore things. i just installed titanium backup and kinda backed everything up, took the files off of the sd card and put them back on and restored them when i flashed a new rom.
Now i heard about this method were you create an update.zip folder to flash in recovery and i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do this?
I thought it only installed titanium but I dont know. I will say this I run my backups on a schedule every night at 2 am everyday. I use force redo of backups. Then I know I'm backed up. I also sync that to my dropbox.

Ding ding ding. Drop box works great for this purpose. Then, if your internal/ext. Storage gets erased, you will always have it at your disposal.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Just so you don't have regrets later, just get in the habit of only backing up the user apps. If you jump roms you could run into some issues restoring system apps. Done there, been that

May want to look into MyBackup root, if all you're interested in is app backup. I have found it to be a little faster and it's free version allows "silent" restoring of apps.

Cant backup apps + data

Im currently on hyperdrive 7 and was looking to flash a different rom to try out, but neither rom toolbox pro or tibu will allow me to backup apps and data. I usually use rom toolbox pro, but when I try to backup app+data, it just starts failing every app. I tried tibu again just to see if the problem was rtp, but it will only restore the app without data. Most stuff I dont mind losing data on, but I have a few games and other things I dont want to start from scratch on. Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you successfully backed up and restored these before?
On rls6 I was able to restore everything and backup before moving to 7. When I got to 7, my apps would restore, but no data with them.

Maybe make sure TiBU has SU access?
I did make a backup of rls6 when I flashed rls7, but have deleted it due to thinking everything was fully functional and trying to save space.
Also, I have titanium backup pro, purchased it a couple years ago but have found rtp to be more reliable. Both have superuser permissions.
Thank you all for your help, I think im just gonna have to bite the bullet and start from scratch again.
