Okay which rom should I use. Please read - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I had my mind made up on Supercurio's KA6 Build with Voodoo and after some reading I came across this person's rom s0niqu3 (KA6+voodoo+bln+cifs), I just want a rom that is basicly the Samsung KA6 build, but speed up so my phone doesnt lag. Which one should I use?

You mean kernel, when we refer to 'roms' we're talking about the framework, theming, and applications that make up the software that sits on top the kernel.
To answer your question though, you will do just fine with one of supercurio's stock+voodoo kernels. Very reliable and the lag fix is totally worth it...will probably save you hours of fiddling/waiting for the UI over the lifetime of the phone.

the new bionix-v rom is very quick and it isn't to far off from looking stock when you get the touchwiz version.

Do these and you can't go wrong.

I still suggest Eugene's GingerClone R2. I have been using this for about 2 months and it is still the best performing ROM that I've experienced for the Vibrant.

Trigger 2.6.2
It has the kernel you want (voodoo, voodoo sound, voodoo color and almost completely stock). The ROM is stable, no known bugs that I'm aware of. Beautifully themed too.
Edit, just saw .3 was released. I would load it up, get it running how you like, and then flash s0niqu3s kernel on top of it. I do feel it's better than KA7+voodoo.

What Froyo Rom are you guys running!!??

I can't decide what rom to run! i want something with decent battery life and good performance. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Four Days. I think you should plan on spending 4 days trying out the various ROMs until *you* find one that *you* like; with you spending a day on each one. They come with their own set of strengths.
My personal experience with Onyx and Axura is that they both had good battery life. I've also tried Obsidian, but thought that the battery life with Onyx was better.
But, ultimately, the battery life will depend on what apps & widgets you use and how you use your phone.
Good luck.
Thanks, I'm currently trying one of them out. A relatively new one but I like their setup. Will definitely see how battery life is and go from there
Been running macnutr12 with the latest bstock kernel1120_100 and jfs overkill lagfix enabled...smooth sailing.

If you want GPS to work, stay away from any i9000 based ROM such as the MacNut series. Any ROM based on JK2 (such as AOSP-ish or Axura) though should come with at least typical GPS functionality. The ROM's description will typically say what it is based upon.
I've tried different ROMs and so far each ROM has its lack on something. I ended up doing the same thing I did with 2.1 which was built my own ROM (JK2 based) and stock kernel for a phenomenal battery life.
I'm in the same boat...i don't know what rom to use...i rooted it, have rom manager, one click lag fix, but confused on what rom to use and yet how to do it...youtube videos are ok but not that helpful. Someone give me a good thought. Guess I'm looking for a quick and responsive phone or rom rather.
Thank u in advance.

Its really smooth and battery so far is ok. Gps is great, slight overclock and running ULF lag fix. Does have TW but a real smooth version of it

I tried most of the major 2.2s, including Macnut, Axura, and Obsidian, and finally went back to the first one I tried: Eugene's Stock 2.2/Odin flashable. It gives me great performance and the battery life is awesome.
If I had to pick one of the highly modified 2.2 ROMs it would probably be Axura. I found Macnut and Obsidian basically unusable due to terrible battery life.

Onyx laggy?

i've have the onyx 4.2 rom for maybe 2 weeks now, and it's been laggy, so i've installed the OCLF 2.2 that team whiskey had on their site, but its still taking 2-3s for programs to open up, and even ones that i have already been opened up, or just browsing through the settings menu.
my vibrant just doesn't seem as fast and smooth as it did when i had fusion 1.2 on there. is there any other way i can fix this problem up? any other kernel or lagfix that's better suited for onyx than the one that it comes with? or would i just be better off reverting back to an eclair rom?
Fusion 1.2 is bulletproof, Onyx is still a bit buggy/slow (especially the browser). For perfection, go back to fusion.

Should be fine to flash right over...if you soft brick it was due to something else. I went straight over with no problems.

MY FAV SETUP to date - waiting on updates or Cyanogen

I am only posting this so those who like to try new things can try this setup. It is not for everyone, but my phone is amazingly snappy, apps are opening pronto, and my battery/gps are perfect.
I am currently running Eugenes Ginger Clone R2:
http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=144
Notes: this does not have the shortcuts in the notification bar and also does not have swype (note the name of the ROM.... dont complain about this).
After my initial boot and getting everything all setup I flashed the JL4 stock + voodoo, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870480
With Eugene and supercurio combined the only way I am going to shift from this is if they themselves update, or Cyanogen comes out... stronly suggest trying this out. Be certain you are comfortable with this before trying it. You will need to disable voodoo before flashing anything else.
to disbale, go to the sdcard/voodoo folder and create a file named "disable voodoo" (without the "'s") and then reboot... it will then convert back from EXT4.
HUGE THANK YOU TO EUGENE AND SUPERCURIO - my phone might as well be the Nexus S (but with an SD Card and Gorilla Glass)!!
Anyone else running this? Do you agree that others should try it?
Not what I'm running, but lets make this a "my ideal setup until CM" sorta thread, which is how I read the subject line at least.
So far, my favorite themed setup was Frobuntu, but I had some issues with system processes chewing up CPU. So now, Blackhole. 1.1 was great, just flashing 1.2 now. Customizable - I love that. Just pick what I want in ROM Manager and it loads up. No hunting down extra files to flash or ADB push, dealing with megaupload, hotfiles, etc. I think I'm staying here until we get a CM or true AOSP build.
This setup sounds like one I've seen before if I could only remember where I saw it ohh I'm running it and it is fast but I put swype back in it I like the speed of swype the jl4 modem wasn't giving me the best connection but jl1 is pretty good but my phone is running fast as fast can be

Been getting this (at least) for a while already with Axura + Voodoo. Maybe typical for many of the popular roms when combined with Voodoo. When the 2.2.1 based ROMs become stable on the Vibrant, combining that with Voodoo might make me want to change. Other than that, short of GB Stable becoming available I probably won't see the need to change.

Correct, but the bible hasn't been updated in a month.
Nor has the wiki which can be found HERE.
To be honest, I've only found minimal difference in the performance of the most recent 2.2 ROMs. They're all fairly good.
Before you jump in to deep, please do some research. You will save yourself alot of headaches. The stickies are a great place to start.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
ROMS
This is some kind of basic orientation:
First, nobody can really tell you which rom will work better for you.
Vibrant problem is that, there are many variations on the hardware, some have a bigger nand, some can be overclocked some cannot. Some get problems with vodoo.
You just have to be ready to experiment, and most importantly not to panic if something goes wrong.
First step. Get familiar with ODIN, learn how to use it and most important, learn how to get your phone in Download Mode.
Step two. Be sure you have the original shipping rom (pit and tar files) at least to odin back to shipping stock. This can save your life if OC is not supported by your phone, if you forget to disable vodoo or lagfix before flashing another rom, and so on)
Step three. If you install any kind of lagfix, including Voodo, be sure to disable it, before flashing anything else. (If you forget you vcan always fix it, going back to stock and repartition it, i can't recall anybody actually bricking a Vibrant just for doing that)
Decide if you want stock or a modified rom. Read, read a lot, to see adventages and disadventages of each.
Decide if you want 2.1 or you are ready to go for froyo
And remember, I can't recall anybody bricking the phone, but be careful you can always be the first, and is only your responsability not anybody else, if you brick your phone.
ohh hand don't forget to HAVE FUN!!!!
My suggestions...

I strongly recommend AXURA. I'm currently on 2.2.5.7. Very stable and fast, unlike Nero v3 in my experience. I'm actually surprised at how stable it is!
I was using CyanogenMod 6.1 before Axura, which is a complete AOSP Android build (without any Samsung crap) with many improvements. I've been using CyanogenMod since I had my G1 before the Vibrant, and I really wanted to use it on my new phone, but unfortunately it's still buggy. Even with sombionix's SD mount fix, the external SD cannot be mounted. Video playback doesn't seem to be GPU accelerated like it normally is. Mounting USB usually tends to consume lots of memory on the phone (maybe a memory leak?) while I work with large files, and it just stops the connection.
I didn't want to use a Samsung-based ROM, but Axura is the best right now IMO.
Axura ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891657
I would stay away from anything tagged team whiskey. Axura, imo, is the most stable of the vibrant mods. Try them all and decide for yourself but get comfortable with Odin and imaging back to stock. Especially if you test out TW mods.

Why? I got NeroV3 and love it. Got the leaked Froyo from Team Whiskey in NeroV1Beta3 and then upgraded to Nerov3 using JUST my phone. You have to give them a few points for making it so dam easy. As far as stable, been running it through the ringers for days now with no problems whatsoever. You enable the Voodoo on NeroV3 and it will scream. I got the Touchwiz version, you should give it a shot OPer

Nero V3 w/ Launcher Pro is more of the way to go lol.. Voodoo enabled of course. Super fast, I'd put Axura in there but, Axura is slightly more buggy and has this problem with the white or gray font color in the notification bar with music players, where the font blends in with the gray theme.. Nero is sleek and clean and bugless IMO.

[Q] What ROM to start with?

Hello All,
I just rooted my Vibrant last night, and installed ROM Manager/Clockwork recovery mod. The last thing I did was do a backup of my device in case I either don't like the ROM or need to switch back. Anyhow, needless to say I'm a newbie to all of this. I've been trying to do some research, but I see an endless amounts of ROMS. I've seen some videos on Euegene's roms and some of the team whiskey ROMs. I was hoping you guys might be able to give me some tips or recommendations on what ROMs to start or stick with. Lastly, if I installed a ROM what happens to my purchased apps from the market? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Well here is ALL personal choice. You will notice that somethings will work for you and somethings will not work for others.
I would start with Nero V3. It is a Froyo (2.2) ROM based on Gingerbread (2.3). Again it is not Gingerbread.
Why start with this one and not Nero V4.1??
Well because Nero V4.1 has voodoo lagfix installed by default and TRUST ME you don't want to start messing around with voodoo if you are a newbie. Everyday there is someone whining about their phone not working because of voodoo.
But mainly inform yourself about every ROM and try them out, people flash ROMs all the time just to try them out so I recommend doing the same. And don't try to break your head trying to know everything it will get to you later on (like Over Clocking, Kernels, Under Voltage, etc.)
And you can download all your purchased apps again from the Market (data does not save this way). I highly HIGHLY recommend Titanium Backup, it will restore your apps just the way the used to be before (with data), just make sure not to restore system apps just third party apps.
When I first started flashing roms I tried axura just because the theme over it was like nothing I have ever seen before. At the time appearance was more important to me vs performance. Ever since that I have stuck with axura because its got looks and performance especially now.
Its all personal choice. I recommend that u read the first post of the roms and see the features list. Then look at the screenshots to see if u like the look of it. Finally just read some of the recently posts in the thread of current problems and see if u live this those bugs. Enjoy your rom hunt. To me its the most fun part!

I believe stock JL5 froyo is the way to go.
Do you want touchwiz?
Do you want a themed rom?
What is important to you.. what are you hoping for?
If you want performance and stability I think Nero V4.1 (yes, with voodoo) is the way to go. There is nothing tricky about voodoo... just know that it will convert your file system (nothing is lost) to EXT4 which is MUCH faster. This is what the Galaxy S comes with stock. It is also what popular roms like CyanogenMod do.
The one caveat is you MUST disable it before you flash something else over it to be safe. You simply go to CWR and disable on next reboot.... that's it. Takes about 5-10 minutes to convert and there is a voice telling you what's happening while it boots.
Nero V4.1 is going to be very popular so themes, etc will be abundant soon.
I also REALLy like Axura roms (i am one of the few on here who seem to be willing to give both developers a lot of respect). I was one of the very few who noticed data drops on the latest axura .9 rom though. With it I also used voodoo and both it and nero 4.1 were almost identical quadrant scores 1520+.
That said, quad scores mean nothing... what is important is BOTH fly. I do like the animation/theme of axura a lot more. It comes with a lot more launchers to choose from. Some consider this bloat, some like the options.
I am using Nero 4.1 with voodoo and ADW EX and I do not think anyone on this board could be as happy with their setup. I'll leave it at that.

Touchwiz is what your phone is running now which includes the launcher, icons, samsung apps and such. Its basically Samsung's overlay to Android just like Htc uses Sense and Motorola uses Moto Blur. I personally use Nero 4.1 with Touchwiz just because I like some of Touchwize's elements even though I use Launcher pro to customize to my delight. I can tell you once you start flashing it becomes and addiction. Also don't forget that if you back up your stock rom and load a froyo rom, you cant just go back to eclair without flashing an eclair kernal first. Read up on that. Good luck!!!
I strongly recommend Version V4. 1

I can tell you once you start flashing it becomes and addiction. Also don't forget that if you back up your stock rom and load a froyo rom, you cant just go back to eclair without flashing an eclair kernal first. Read up on that. Good luck!!!

Thank you for the info!
I'm happy to report I'm now running Nero4.1. Thank you guys!!! . I can see how this can be addicting (flashing different roms) haha.
Awesome man, be sure and enable voodoo for a much snappier phone. Just remember to disable it (via CWR, or the app Voodoo toggle) before you flash anything.
Worst case you forget, you can just use ODIN (recommend the alt method in my noob guide because it keeps root).

Thanks again for the help, and tip! I just downloaded voodoo toggle. This ROM is awesome! By the way, if i wanted to switch to another ROM let's say Axura's ROM would I need to flash my phone back to stock or can I just load that ROM up? I just didn't want to miss any steps lol. Anyhow, thank you all again!
