[Q] MicroSDHC - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi, I am going to buy Transcend TS16GUSDHC6 for p500.
My question is that if p500 will support 16gb class 6 card ? I heard that anything over 8gb slows OS as it has to read more data.
Please help me decide.
Thanks

You can go for it.

yh still waiting for an answer

If you don't use ext partition, than you can just copy files in explorer of some other file manager, if you using it, you will need some tool, which can copy also information about ext partition.
Teoretical you can mount ext in recovery, and just do copy of all data and than restore it. Also NAND with EXT should work well.

Your mileage wrt the capcity & class of card may vary, as can be seen here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870014

[TEST]possible solution to unmount sd card!

hi guys i'm trying to find a solution for sd cards unmount on lg optimus one!!!i have a kingston 8gb cl4 and i had a 4-5 remount a day before trying this:
format with windows, choose file system fat32 and in allocation unit size choose 64 kb(should be the maximum) and give a name!
after this i had no problem for 5 days: no remount no reboot!!!
i would share this because it could be a solution....so anyone have problem may can test it!!!
there is a solid solution. buy a class 4+ micro sd..
but, kudos to you! i have a class 4+ micro sd so i can't test it out, but i'm sure others will.
btw this will kill all ur data in sdcard. backup is needed

So easy if it isn't your money that will be spent
BTW, I have a class 4 SD and it unmounts regulary, so class 4 doesn't really work.
Thanks for the tip dongimin2, I'll try it out.
before i bought kingston class 4 i had the original microsd that was shipped with optimus one and i never had problems!the problems started when i bought kingston memory!....howewer.....another day without a remount or reboot!
If speed is the problem (assuming it is), then I bet reiserfs solves the problem. That is if someone can get it to work with Android Just my opinion though.
EDIT: reiserfs for Android exists. Can someone port it for the O1? xD
8gb cl6 never once had unmount. Previously on original card, unmounts several times a day

And... what about having NO SD AT ALL? Is it possible? Does it still crash the phone?
Can someone test it (I don't own the device, sorry)?

Erm, this could really solve the unmount problem, I guess.
@kpbotbot reiserfs is goddamn fast..i have been it for past 5 years and not a single corrupt file ever..(MS needs to learn) having a2sd on reiserfs will be quite good and how abt using FAT and not FAT32 for saving data on SD..havent tried it but shudnt it work ??? Both fs have same 4GB filesize limits

But... Do android need an SD card (or an internal memory like the nexus S) to work properly? Or is it really possibile to boot without the SD

Have you tried using the old FAT on your SD? Afaik, max sizes for FAT is about 260~. I'm going to install either Debian Testing or aptosid tonight and I'm going to try out reiserfs
On the relevant side: I hope someone ports it on our kernel :/
I formatted the card from the phone , but nothing changed...i have root + milk os 1.0 touch lag kernel , before rooting + milk os kernel , i hadn't sd unmounts...i did a nandroid backup . Should i restore it ? , but i'll loose the overlock + no touch lag.. what should i do ?
Just an update: I formatted the SD card as the original poster suggested, and it did reduced the umounts considerably, but not totally.
I stigg get a umount every 5 days or so, which is surely better than twice a day
Looking forward to Gingerbread...

How do I switch SD Cards?

My 4GB card is just not enough for me and when I plan to get a higher one how would I do the switch process? I'm running CM7 by Mik. Will the ROM be affected in any way when I switch cards? Can someone outline the process?
I think that the rom doesnt matters..i did it like this.....
Connect your phone to pc
Copy all folders to desktop(just copy not move)
Disconnect the phone
Turn of the phone
Change sd card
Connect again to pc and copy the files from desktop to sd card
Your done

If you are using a ext already than yes. You should also backup your apps and restore it on to the new sdcard

Just speed. Therefore class 6 is recommended
tnx feeshie
sori for the noob-ish question, but what do i do with that ext and partition" that u are talking about??^__^
Another way would be backup using custom recovery, replace new SD and partition and finally, restore ur backup
Nvr bad to copy everything to computer

A partition is used by the data2sd mod. If you haven't partitioned your card when you flashed the ROM then you won't need to partition this one. Just copy all your files in your PC and paste them on your new card.
tnx a lot!!! even though i flashed a rom, partition does not have anything to do with it, right??? so i'll just copy all the files and it's fine?
There are some ROMs that require an ext partition, but mik_os's cm7 does not require one.
Yes, just copy the files and that's it.

I have an 8 GB Class 2 SD Card, does it make a huge difference? I'm guessing as in speed your talking about phone performance? Should I not use the 8 GB I have and buy another one with a higher class or does it not matter enough to get a new one?
Don't use a class2 sdcard, it's way too slow. Class 6 or higher recommended.

If the seller has a picture of the SD card the class should be next to the amount of GB and circled. So a Class 4 should have a circled 4.
thanks! ^__^

you can partition, with it no problem...although I don't see the need to, you have 2 gigs of space just for apps, and you can even put a lot of those on the internal sd.

[Q] How do I unpartition my SD card?

Hello Everyone!
I partitioned my SD card back when I had my Nexus One. Now, I'm interested in reversing that process. I just recently rooted, unlocked, and flashed my phone. Unfortunately, CWM doesn't offer an option to partition my SD card. How does one do that these days? I just want my SD card to be unpartitioned.
Thanks
Chump
You should be able to format the sd card form the phone itself, like going to menu, settings, storage, dismount sd card then format sd card, I think this removes partitions, also destroying all data in the card.

Backup sdcard contents to computer. On computer delete all partitions, then you will have one big unallocated space. Create a new partition using all available space. Copy backed up data back onto sdcard. Put back in phone.

I use minitool partition wizard.
Remember to format as primary, fat32 and then apply,

+1 as the standard windows partition tool does not delete the 2nd partition. You will lose everything on the 2nd partition as even with mini tool you can't access it, only delete it and format it.
Oh, exactly.. make sure to back up any important data.

To be honest, yeah. It's cool that he revived it. I am sitting here with a soft bricked Samsung Infuse and can't find a lick of information that is even slightly useful to me. I'm welcome to all new information and answers that could potentially help me. Why waste your time complaining that someone revived a thread? Got nothing better to do with your life, I see... Stop being a jerkoff to people who didn't do a single thing to you. Seriously...

YP G70 microSD media scanning don't work

Hi, I recently reverted from KK rom to stock 2.3.3. There is a strange problem only with files on microSD. I copy files on it but at first reboot the media scanning tells me card problem (broken?). If I don't restart the files are generally played!!! I try different sd and different method of format. Any suggestion???

If you've not done a /data wipe after downgrading, that can be an issue. Else, copy the files of your sd to your PC and then format it on your galaxy player.

The problem is that I sell the player, I always used a Sandisk 32GB with no problem. Now the buyer tell me that there is this problem with a Samsung! Thank you, I'll suggest a sd exchange... maybe a speed class compability....
I have the same problem with my sandisk 32 GB card and found out that it was the problem.
Update SanDisk will replace the card so as long as you have it. I wrote a review on it. Just let it update though.

Nope, I have to buy new one. I have been using my card for 2 years. The card performance have been degraded due to extensive read and write, after reading your sugestion I tested the card using software called "AOMEI partition manager" and the result are degraded performance due to extensive read and write.
For information to other people with same problem; I use "persyst.sys.vold.switchexternal" mod/workarround to swap galaxy player limited storage with my 64 Gb card. This mod make the card work very very hard and degrade card performance.
Hope this information will help other people with same problem.
