I've tried searching in the forums, but no luck..
I've installed CM6-v3.1 on my phone, and now it seems that the backlight on the pull-out-keyboard always is on? (as long as the phone's not at standby) It drains my battery.. Any ways to fix this?
Also, I wonder if it's possible to get the key-setup fixed for the pull-out-keyboard?
It's now in English, and I have an Norwegian phone..
Then I have 3more letters in my alphabet (æ-ø-å), which means I have some extra keys on it.. The keyboard is messed up with the signs, but not the letters and numbers.. f.inst. : my dot button (.) and the '':'' button now shows ''?'' and ''!'' ..
My ''æ'' button shows dot (.) and '':''...
See my point ? I think I just need the Original SE ''pull-out-keyboard'' file to replace the CM file? If, how do I get it?
Please answer my first question first, as that is more important to me
Thanks!

i have the same problem here.. Not just about killing battery owain, but it reduce our own visibility of the keyboard characters itself when we are on the bright room.. Maybe there's a generic fix that we can apply by ourself if that's quite easy for us?
Well anyway if it's easy to fix then i guess you must be already bundling it on the next version Thanks so much for the hard work.

put a "0" in "/sys/devices/platform/msm_pmic_misc_led.0/brightness" file and save it now your led is off and if you want it on again just put a 1 or any number above 1 in the file it is quite simple lol
im trying to get it nice fixed in the CM settings but that kinda hard so when i fail at that i will try another way bash script i guess

* Then flash back to CM again, and w8 4 U fix 4 me?
(About the SWE. Keyb. : Sweden have 3 letters 2, but it's not the same symbol.. :S Then I'll probably get the key-setup right, but it will input the swedish letters?)
Thanks 4 the help! (I dont rlly care about the backlight, just wondered ^^)
P's, I did take backup in xRecovery b4 starting with CM (and thats the 2.1-update1 version..). Is it possible 2 find the file in the backup? or i can send u the backup? Then I wont have 2 reflash..

starting from the above minimal procedure, you could customize as you want (else trigging from light intensity) the keyboard led behaviour...

I have that same issue about that special bottom right button "àü" in Belgium, which had to show me a panel of symbols or could push it with another key to have a special letter like these "é è ë ê à ç"
it should normally be the same as the french keyboard (don't know if they have QWERTY or AZERTY keyboards tho)

widget
I'll be the first to admit that I'm a noob. But it seems to me that if you can switch it at runtime with a command it would be fairly easy to make a widget for the switching right?
That way you can manually select at any moment whether you want the light to be on or not. (Possibly working together with the solution above to automatically switch it off when the keyboard isn't out.)

In Tasker you have the ability to "link" the keyb-light-on command to the keyb-out state, aswell to "link" the keyb-light-off script to the keyb-in state (or as exit task)...
BUT
you could also make the command on + off on exit task (keyb-in) LINKED to a variable determined by an external condition (external LIGHT intensity):
in simple words:
hi tasker, i would like to have my keyboard backlight on when i slide out my physical qwerty but only ***IF*** the ambient light level is not enough to make me easily identify the buttons, then, please tasker, turn off the light when I close my qwerty if before you have turned it on.
To achieve this behaviour, just check the ***If*** box by editing the execute command in the created task (keyb-light-on when keyb-state=out) to set the If variable. Select as variable **Light level** (%LIGHT) and link it to a math **Condition Operator** like "less than" (<) then put the desired percentage of ambient light below which (in this case) the command keyb-light-on triggered by keyb-out state will get executed. Remember to also create an exit task with the keyb-light-off execute command (obviously without setting the **IF** variable).
Note:
On tasker, the first time you use the %LIGHT (light level variable) you should expose your device first a while in a dark place, then a while in a WELL lightened place. Do that in order to allow tasker to set properly the on-off border working conditions to internally understand light sensor datas
Hope that could help.
Any doubt --> post here
best regards,
respect!

Since I couldn't find it anywhere else I just made it myself
My Hermes allows me to rotate the screen using a hardware button assignment or using the HTC Home plugin. Using a 'touchflo'-like application -with no hardware button to spare- it was annoying going back to my today-screen to rotate the screen.
It turned out the Compact Framework 2.0 has this nice class which would do the trick: Microsoft.WindowsCE.Forms.SystemSettings.ScreenOrientation
So I "wrote" exactly 10 lines of code (including class/function def) to rotate my screen.
Anyone interested: download and install the cab.
+ Does not remain in memory: rotates the screen and exits
+ Now you can create a shortcut to rotate the screen
+ tested on a Hermes (TyTN)
- Requires Compact Framework 2.0 (should be default for Windows Mobile 6.0)
- CF is a huge overhead when only needed for this program, but I'm to lazy to go for the API call (ChangeDisplaySettingsEx)
- No settings: rotates 90 degrees counter clockwise (or 90 degrees clockwise with the Rotate Screen CW cab) -on my TyTN it matches the screen setting when the keyboard slides out-
- Icon is but-ugly
- Not tested on other hardware, but I expect the worst thing that could happen is a frozen device which will work nicely after a soft-reset. My expectation is based on the fact it's a CF 'call' and not an API call, therefore it does not write to memory locations directly.
Use 'as is'.
I might be tempted to add 'settings' if people actually would use the program and have requests...
When installed on other devices: a message would be appreciated (even if is doesn't work)
no one yet
I would use this. But except for wiring it to a hardbutton, can you make it (maybe as a setting) to have it go into landscape mode when opening New SMS and then back to portrait when SMS is sent?
I also posted this in another thread but maybe this one is more appropriate.
Thanks
It does work on the Mogul/PPC-6800. Rotates the screen 270° Why wouldn't you just create a mortscript file to do this the only line that you would need is
Code:
Rotate(270)

i don't know if this can be done or not, but if touchflo can have a rotate recognition (similar to HTC album where u can rotate a picture) and use this to rotate the screen in the direction u want to what do u think... is this smtg one should ask efrost?

No. But you can have a script that rotates 270° or 90°(landscape) and then opens the SMS app and when it closes the SMS app it rotates back to 0°(portrait). It would read something like this. But im not sure that you can assign it only to the creation of a new message

Mortscript is a great tool, but it requires some scripting-knowledge to get it working. A small app is easier to install for most people.
But I agree mortscript is the better option if you want a "rotate-start app-rotate back" sequence
This small app is just because of my frustration Microsoft didn't give me a "rotates screen"-shortcut.
Thank you.. Still works great..

The "i320 rotation app" is faster than your "Rotate screen" application but needs more clicks to get back to normal...

App Rotate screen v1.1
StartButton.
25 February 2009 v. 0.1 - First release
5 March 2009 v. 0.2 - changes:
+ option to intercept the tap on the text on the right of the start button, usually "Start"
I don't think it is a good idea, but since someone requested it...
+ option to specify the full path to the launched program, works for programs on memory card
28 March 2009 v. 0.3 - changes:
+ option to hook the hardware Window Buttons for devices that have it
Developed with iLaunch (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486618) in mind, it's a very simple application: you can specify a program, and it will be run when you "tap" on the start icon.
It's main purpose is to replace the Start Menu with another "launcher" application, allowing to access anyway to the Windows Start Menu by tapping on the right of the Start Button.
Someone requested to extend the hook to the "hardware Start Button", but afaik there is not such a standard hardware button, at least on WM5 and WM6.
Some devices have an hardware button for the Start Menu, some don't, some don't have hardware buttons at all.
There are other applications that can manage hardware buttons, StartButton is for the icon!
It's based on the code of GreenButton by Supbro (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462963)
Both are open source GNU GPL V3
StartButton source is at Google Code:
http://code.google.com/p/startbutton/
How to start a program?
HKCU\software\iApps\StartButton\Run
the default value is: "iLaunch\iLaunch.exe" (without the ")
You can specify here a relative path to your program files folder: in an english wm program files folder is, well, "Program Files", and usually applications are located inside it.
so if you want to use say "MyApplication.exe" wich is inside the "MyApplicationFolder" wich is inside the "Program Files" folder:
the full path is:
\Program Files\MyApplicationFolder\MyApplication.exe
and then you need to write:
MyApplicationFolder\MyApplication.exe
if you want to start an application that is not on the Program Files folder, you can write the full path instead:
\Memory Card\Program FIles\MyApplicationFolder\MyApplication.exe
How to extend the hook to the "Start" text?
HKCU\software\iApps\StartButton\HookText
Set this value to 1 for hooking the word "Start"
Delete the key for hooking only the Start button
You have to soft reset your device for the changes to have effect
How to extend the hook to the hardware button?
HKCU\software\iApps\StartButton\HookWinKey
Set this value to 1 for hooking the hardware button
Delete the key for hooking only the screen Start button
You have to soft reset your device for the changes to have effect

And could you post the path you entered in the registry?
Hmm, maybe someone could use this hack to make a WM 6.5 style launcher...
Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you elected to make this an application instead of a service? I'm not being critical I was just curious because I'm in the early stages of developing a GUI-less application as well and I'm trying to decide which is the best way to implement (service vs application).
Great work!

Hi Everyone,
This is my First WinMo device so please go easy on me. To Start, I really love this Phone but there's one thing thats REALLY bothering me. The Rotation Speed, The time it takes to switch from Portrait to Landscape is like 3 - 4 sec. sometimes 5 sec. I don't have any program installed yet and yes, I've closed anything that is running in the background.
Is there ANY Possible Way to increase the Rotation speed from Portrait to Landscape? I tried searching for updates via phone but there is none. Please help, I really want to keep this phone but the rotation speed is pushing me to sell it.
Swtiching to the simpliest homescreen is the only option.

Have you tried a soft reset (turning off phone and removing battery for more than 10 seconds) ?
Switching from Portrait to Landscape on the homescreen can be within 1 second after a soft reset and certainly shouldn't be more than 2 seconds.

I Need help again, HOW do I re-Format My Memory Card(MicroSDHC) from My phone. I can't seem to fine that option.
One more thing, How can I install Opera Mini so that it would show up in Start menu. e.g when I go to mini.opera.com and d/l it to my phone using HTC IE a Java window pops up to install the program. but after I install it Opera Mini doesn't appear in Start Menu like my Google Map did. Is there anyway to fix this?
Opera Mini is a Java application. Therefore it installs (and appears) within Java console called JBed (it's in Accessories). Open JBed, hit Opera and it will run...
To put it in Start menu:
1. Open Notepad on your PC
2. Put in following line:
28#"\windows\jbed.exe" -run s0_
3. Save it as e.g. Opera.lnk (downcase .LNK)
4. Copy the file in Windows\Start Menu
It will appear in Programs and work immediately, if Opera is only one app within the JBed pool. If anything else is installed there as well, simply fiddle with the number s1_ , s2_ etc. until you'll hit the Opera.
It will keep Jbed icon, nevertheless, it works. I have mapped it on SpeeDial and I don't care about the icon anymore...
Hey guys im currently trying to change my morphgear screen settings to 150% but whenever i try to change it it just goes back to 100% yes ive read a lot of threads spent 3 hours looking for solutions but still no luck could anyone help me? should i buy a stylus? or should i use my tooth pick lol (it wouldnt work. Believe me i even used my tongue to press the 150% selection) I have no idea how to regedit it and what screen size should i use to make half of the screen the gba game then the other half is the controller help me please im really hungry and sleepy!
well it was a very hot topic in the morphgear port thread... they suggested to use the back button or something to make the settings "stick" in place... I don't remember and wouldn't know, since any methos i use simply works... anyway you'd better check the thread over at the themes and apps forum in the hd2 section, or to be faster, this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593464
hey mate this happened to me as well, you just keep pressing the SCREEN SIZE again once its highlighted and it will scroll through the options
get a registry editor and In the registry go to HKCU - software - morphgear - (module you want to set eg gameboyadvance) - screensize (change value from 100% to window size)
i found the solution i used the on screen keyboard to save the settings (click the settings that you want to change then use the arrow keys to select it the press enter) for example
-Click screensize
-then open the onscreen keyboard
-then use the arrow keys to navigate up and down through sizes 100% 125% etc.
-press enter on your desired screen size OMG it worked! hahaha thanks guys for helping me out
For me, it works fine. What you need to do is 'double tab' or 'tab repaetly' at the setting icon to change the setting.
It takes me quite long time to find this out as well. Enjoy.
Note: I'm on MorphGear2.4.0.9_HD2v0.8
This is my first real bit of development work. I just wanted to post a mod I put together, and how to install it. It's simple enough that someone else may have done it before me.
PROBLEM
Do you like ALT more than SEARCH? Do you often press SEARCH-TAB when what you really wanted was ALT-TAB? Do you realize that ICS has a perfect little Alt-Tab interface? Well! I have a perfect mod for you!
WHAT YOU NEED
TF201 (TF101 version coming soon!)
Keyboard Dock
Root (Does *not* require unlocking)
File replacement tool: Terminal Emulator, a Root File Manager of your choice, or ADB
STEP 1
(Root your TF201 if you haven't already.) Download my modded asusdec.kl below. You'll need to extract it. For the purposes of commands I use below, put the extracted asusdec.kl in:
/sdcard/download
STEP 2
navigate to: /system/usr/keylayout
STEP 3
Back up your asusdec.kl. I've provided a backup of mine, from .21, which should work in the event of a problem.
STEP 4
Replace your asusdec.kl with my modded one. You can do that any way you like, but I prefer doing it in a Terminal session. You may need to remount /system as RW. Terminal Commands are:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
Code:
mv -f /sdcard/download/asusdec.kl /system/usr/keylayout/asusdec.kl
STEP 5
Reboot! After that, you're all done.
RESULTS
If the mod has been performed correctly, your Search key will now perform ALT_LEFT instead, which allows you to use ALT commands where they would apply (Alt-Tab being the biggest one). To make up for this, your ALT_RIGHT key has been remapped to SEARCH. You've lost no functionality

Awesome! Thanks!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to doing more in the future. I have all the files I need to do the same mod for TF101, but I don't have a rooted TF101 to test it on. I don't like posting unverified files, but if i can find a tester, I can wrap up that version ASAP.
I also intend to do a couple of mods for specific bluetooth keyboards.
This looks cool! Is there any way to physically swap the buttons too?

Great, I was waiting for this since ages ...
Just one issu is that in France the keyboard layout is different and the right Alt is used for Alt Gr which allow to type some characters such as @, ^ [] #~ ...
It's a bit annoying not to be able to type these letters now ...
Anyway, great work

Yes you can! You have to do it manually though, there is no software that can do that
The way to do it, is to put your nail under the key on either top or bottom and just flip it out. After you've done that, you can just put it back by pressing it down untill you hear a nice 'click'.
I have done so myself and I must say I'm quite comfortable with the result
Btw, nice work Pandages!
I don't suppose the keyboard layout hack here could be adapted to add or change the shortcut keys? Like launching a different browser, or changing the lock key to do something else? My guess is that's baked into the Android OS, but had to ask.
Been searching for an app or hack to allow me to map my own keyboard shortcuts to whatever I want ( Ctrl + ` for terminal perhaps ) but haven't found anything that comes close.
Has anyone gotten this to work with Virtuous? I have the Modded file in there (checked file size) and it's not happening for me, even after a few reboots.

Possibly! It looks like someone else already answered this one, above me.

If you'd like to work with me, I could make a version that would do specifically what you need. I'm happy to help.

Actually yes. It would be super easy to make the Lock key do something else, but most of the types of keystrokes you're looking for are baked into the framework. Most of them can launch your default app for a given function, rather than the stock app, but some are stock-app-specific. I like the idea of Ctrl+` to get a terminal, but I think that's outside of the scope of what I can do with .kl hacks.

I haven't used that ROM, as my TF201 remains locked. However, if you can provide me the *.kl files from the relevant directory, I can probably whip something up for you.
Very interesting ... looking at the layout file. You're right, would be easy to switch out what keys to what( Even the page up fn+arrow up combo ). I wonder where those key definitions like " MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE" are actually defined? If it's just a constant to a function definition in some apk then maybe we could decompile it and change the const definition to make any keys "Special function" do something new. Hell, maybe the keyboard recognizes fn+t or any other key with fn as a new numeric key id, then we could add new ones off the function key. Going to delve into some of the system apks to see what I can ferret out.
Not too hopeful here, seems much to easy, but its a start.

The special buttons are defined in /system/app/Keyboard.apk
There was a mod created which changed the browser button to use your default rather than be hard-coded to the stock Brower app

Yes but I also like ESC more than the Back Button. Mind cooking up another one with ESC modded in? I dont know if esc is hard coded to cause back in android.
Im always hitting back on accident when using splashtop, It registers the left alt now tho!
Is there any way to type unicode with alt codes? I'm really sick of not being able to triforce while on my tab.

Before jumping to downgrade and root my .21, is it possible to push such files through ADB (without root)? That would be awesome =)
Does this still work on .28 update?
Or does it need to be updated?
Crap. I should of just done the mod without trying to switch the keys.
I think I pried the alt key off to hard and now it won't sit back flush on the key again.
Wonder if I can RMA the keyboard for a faulty key =\
The mod will persist through the upgrade from .21 to .28, no real possibility of problems. Still works great for me.
As for making a version with ESC instead of Back, yeah, that could probably be done pretty quickly. Only thing is, how are various applications going to interpret ESC? Most android keyboards don't provide ESC, so many apps just interpret Back as ESC (terminal emulators, etc.)

happened to me too. check the pins underneath the keyboard to make sure they're all open and you can put the "stick" part of the keyboard back into that part of the key.

any ideas on how to make the sleep button a true delete button, not just an extra backspace button?

thanks. when i took out the alt key i took the white part with it. And only took off the cap part from the search key. once i seperated it and put the white part back on, the top of the key went on smoothly. Now to actually DO the mod.
