yes, but my reason for posting it is because it contains the script to flash along with it being signed. this way the only thing missing are the files.

An easier way to do this, which is what I have been doing, is to simply use a File Manager with Read/Write (Root) privileges and copy the libswypecore.so file into your system/lib directory and then install the Swype.apk like a normal app. This way you can do everything without needing to reboot.
I installed by giving them my email getting the apk and installing...you could almost calk it average lol

so quick question, how would I go about uninstalling this?
Swype FCs every time it tries to load.
Mytouch 4g CM 7.02
I'm getting force closes as well using the files posted here. I followed these instructions here because after installing via the sywpe installer beta everytime I rebooted my phone it wouldn't trace anymore. To fix this I needed to disable and reenable swype. So as of right now I'm still outta luck.
To remove swype though simply go into titanium and scroll down to swype and delete it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Unfortunately swype force closes are not due to this zip and chances are it is the ROM. I would suggest trying fix permissions from recovery or ROM manager. Other than that I would not know what would be causing the force closes.

maybe i'm confused but i just went to swype.com and registered for beta and it works fine
is this different?
Before I ever tried the files here I used the beta installer that I registered and it seemed like everytime I rebooted it wouldn't swype anymore and the keyboard would flash like an error. I've been running cyanogenmod nightlies, currently on 61. I've tried fixing permissions before but it never corrected the issue.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I tried the Root Explorer method with the same results. No matter what I do to install Swype on any ROM other than CM7, I can't get the keyboard to "swype". I've even created a new account with swype to download it again with no luck. I'm close to using something other than CM7 as my daily ROM but I need Swype! Any more ideas?
Thanks!!
When it won't swype after reboot. Try selecting another board, type something, then go back to swype and slide. Used to work for me when I was using swype
this worked flawlessly! thanks
im running nightlies. i downloaded iced glacier for the original swpe .apk and libswpe files. just selected update zip from sdcard in clockwork.
forse closes, then i uninstalled and uses root explorer to copy both files, than i change the permissions, it worked but gave error about licencing, that this is for some other device. im using htc panache stock GB ROM.
than yesterday i realized new beta is out i re-registered and installed the latest beta which is ofcourse much better , only thing im missing is light colored theme of oribngnal swype.

I got the constant force close using the new swype 3.0 the way I fixed it was deleted it then right after I reinstalled it I rebooted in to recovery and cleared both caches and fixed permissions. I don't think rom manager fix permission is working right for this version.

So I've been looking for a way to get the stock apps for calculator, calender, and alarm clock back onto my vibrant which is now running the vibrant6 rom from eugene...
So far I've seen suggested that we tear apart anomalous's deodexed rom and push the files through adb but I have a horrible 3g connection and it already took me forever to download the vibe 5 and 6 roms and don't want anything else from that rom just the .apks for these apps.
Also do they have to be pushed using adb or terminal or can I just use astro if I have it with rw permission to the /system /data folders n whatnot?
Either way I was hoping someone could post up on here some of these and other stock touchwiz apps for easy dl and reinstallation as I know much more than just myself have been looking for these apps to bring back to our modded roms.
Much thanks to all that could help with this

The issue is even if I go all the way back to my old rom through a nand backup you can't grab a back up as a simple apk through titanium and I'm unsure which files i could possibly manually back up to my sd using some sort off root explorer....
Thus my asking if anyone had these apks or files with a method of transferring them where they are needed... I know more then one person is looking for something like this

You must use adb or root explorer to "install" them. You cant just install them like a regular apk.
ADB:
adb push whatever.apk /system/app/ (do the same with the .odex file)
Root explorer:
Just copy the files from your sd to the system folder and reboot.
whoops... meant to post somewhere else, my bust.

Old thread resurrected!
environment: Vibrant rooted w/ Eugene's Gingerclone Final R2
I'm a lil new to replacing system apps, but I read up on this and by all accounts, it should have worked.
Using adb to push the files previously linked to /system/app then rebooting yielded the existing (AOSP?) Calendar still being installed/displayed/used.
Noticed the pushed files had different names.
Renamed source files to match target files and re-pushed. Rebooted. Calendar no longer shows up in application listing.
Used Root Explorer to locate files in /system/app (currently mounted r/w) and tried to install the .apk's; installation ends with msg "Application not installed" with a "done" button to click.
used adb shell to rm the existing Calendar.apk and Calendar.odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.odex/.apk and TouchWizCalendar.odex.apk and adb reboot.
pushed TouchWizCalendarProver.odex/.apk & TouchWizCalendar.odex/.apk to /sdcard; launched Root Explorer, copied all 4 files to /system/app/ and rebooted.
No "Calendar" or "TouchWizCalendar" or "TWCalendar" etc etc in applications list.
Use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/app/ and try to install said applications and result says "Application Not Installed"
Any help is appreciated.
Does anyone have the Memo app?
Flashed nero v3 and it didnt have it!
Also, i had some important info in there. Will it be there when i push the apk to the sysytem/app folder? My sd card still has everything from before I flashed.
thanks

I didn't see a thread on how to do this anywhere in the MT4G forum, so I thought I would share.
If you want swype, but are not on their beta test program, do not want to muck about with their "installer" app, or deal with the reminders of beta status and app expiration; you can pull swype from a stock ROM and use it on your device.
As per the rules, you should not do this on a phone that does not have swype installed stock.
Also, this involves messing around in the "system" partition. While the risk is very low, you do this at your own risk.
First you will need to extract the needed files from a stock ROM. If you are still running the stock software, you can use a file explorer app to make a copy onto your SD card. Just copy and paste. You can also pull the files from the stock image or from the Iced glacier ROM. Pulling from Iced Glacier is the easiest method. Just unzip the ROM file and find the needed files.
There are two files, both in the system partition. The first is "Swype.apk" and is in /system/app folder. The second is "libSwypeCore.so" and is in /system/lib/ folder.
Edit: 7/25/11
It seems you must also conciser the source ROM and destination ROM when obtaining the files. Swype does a device/licence check when running, and if it fails the check then Swype will not work. The build.prop lists "t-mobile/htc/ect" as product.brand and Swype seems to check this before running. So use a version of Swype from a ROM with the same build.prop or edit the build.prop manually.
Now to install Swype:
There are two ways to do this, ADB or root explorer. (or other file manager with RW)
Any extra info to help explain what is going on for any new guys will be in green text.
For ADB:
First put the files you extracted into the tools folder of the android SDK, then open an ADB shell to your phone. When that is done, use the following commands. (each line is a separate command)
Remember Linux commands are case sensitive.
First is to mount /system as RW. (this allows you to save files to /system)
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
Then you need to push (save a copy) the files to the correct locations.
Code:
adb push Swype.apk /system/app/Swype.apk
adb push libSwypeCore.so /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
It may give the files the wrong permissions. (how much access to the system they have) Just to be safe we need to give the files the right permissions.
Code:
chmod 644 /system/app/Swype.apk
chmod 644 /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so
sync
reboot
Your phone will reboot and then you are done.
For Root Explorer:
Extract a copy of the needed files and put them on the SD card.
Then open root explorer and open the "sdcard" folder.
Next find "Swype.apk" and long press it and select "copy" (or if you have already completed this step once, copy "libSwypeCore.so")
Use the back button to go back to the root of the folder tree (up top where it shows your current location, it will show "/" this is where you started from when opening the app)
Locate and open the "system" folder.
You then need to tap the button up top marked "Mount R/W" (this will allow you to make changes and copy the files to the right locations) (this step should not be needed if you have already done so before)
Next open the "app" folder. (or if you are moving "libSwypeCore.so" open the "lib" folder)
Hit the "paste" button to copy the file.
Next long press the file you just copied "Swype.apk" and select "permissions" (or "libSwypeCore.so" as appropriate)
You will see a bunch of check boxes. The will be labeled "read" "write" "execute" across the top and "user" "group" "others" down the left side.
For "user" select the "read" and "write" boxes
For "group" and "others" select the "read" box only. Then select "OK"
When done with the first file, repeat the above steps again with the second file. Observe any changes to the steps that are in orange text.
Next open up a "terminal emulator" app and then run the following commands.
Code:
su
sync
reboot
Your phone will reboot and then you are done.
Hope this helps someone.
When I pushed the files to CM7 I completely forgot about checking permissions when it didn't work.
I do however prefer the newest Swype from the beta program since it has speech recognition. Your information should help me porting my Blackout Swype themes over to the MT4G with creating a proper flashable zip that will work with any ROM, and for that I thank you.

No problem, I was thinking of creating a flashable zip for my cousin, he doesn't like to mess around with this stuff... but he lives on the computer, go figure. I just need the signing app, actually its not needed with the new recoveries that allow unsigned zips to be flashed, but it would be nice.
I cant get the swype from iced glacier onto cm7. I follow all the steps perfectly and can select the swype keyboard but when I try to type nothing happens except a flashing blue border around the keyboard. Its pretty annoying.

Thats odd, I used this to get it on to CM7 and it works fine. Where did you source the files from? Permissions are rw-r-r?
Thanks so much for this! I don't use the voice feature and I always hit it on accident, so I've been missing the stock version. I also didn't care for the blue all that much.
I am new to this. Could I use this technic for the others stock apps (calendar, clock/weather widgets...)? Thanks!

No, the apps you are speaking of are HTC apps. They are integrated into the HTC Sense framework.
Moving default apps between ROMs that have custom UIs, like sense, can be problematic. Many default apps have been setup to work with the custom UI and framework only.

Probably has a device check, and the ROM you are using is giving the wrong device.
I believe the panache is the Canadian version, so it may be that the licence is regional as well.

I figured it out for us (those of us on Virtuous Unity)!!! Haha, I'm so stoked. Then uninstalled swype, rebooted, and then followed the terminal steps listed in the OP. Good luck.

There are 3 files attached.
messaging.zip - restores original blur messagine apps, including corporate sync, txt messaging with balloon conversation mode, and the universal inbox. It does not have the messaging widget.
taskman.zip - if you liked moto's Task Manager app, this will restore it for you so you can kill tasks and uninstall like before GB.
gallery.zip - restores the moto Medial Gallery application. Note the GB version of Gallery will still exist and both will work.
Quick instructions:
* You will need CWM Recovery for this
* Follow CWM instructions exactly - especially the part about plugging into the AC adapter or it won't work!
**NOTE** this will also install the original blur txt messaging interface with the conversation balloon mode. Its all one application so no way around it that I know of.
1) copy one of the zip files (attached) to your sdcard root directory
2) run CWM according to instructions in its thread

You need to download the messaging bloatware zip, reboot into recoverymode and use CWM to install that zip file... It's the same process as installing grey/gingerblur.
Well if i new where the messaging bloatware zip was i would try 2 get that
i know they have the full one with everything but is there one with only the messaging part? or some thing like that?
Well i tryed 2 just install the messager part and i soft bricked my phone just fixed that but still dont have the old messaging system
Go to the android development section and find the gingerblur thread (it shouldn't be difficult). Then go to the gingerblur website given in the thread and download the bloatware.zip. you will also need tenfars cwm recovery which is in the development section also. Then just flash the zip file using the cwm recovery guide. Make sure your phone is plugged into a wall outlet charger when you do this (not a computer USB port) or it won't work.

1. Downloaded GApps package from goo-inside.me and extracted files.
2. Deleted the setupwizard.apk file from the set of extracted files (in the system\app folder).
3. Copied "system" folder from extracted files to tablet via USB.
4. Used Root Explorer to remount /system and copy files into their designated locations, and also set permissions (644) on all copied apk's in /system/app folder.
5. Rebooted.
6. Ran the market, signed in with my Google account, and downloaded/installed Superuser. Ran the binary update within the app.
7. Install any additional apps from Android Market.
8. Profit.
Known issues...
1. If setupwizard.apk ends up on your tablet you will not be happy.
2. A factory reset is recommended after installing GApps (though probably not necessary).
3. Not all apps show in the Market. Perhaps a build.prop tweak will fix this???
Enjoy!!!
this is a second good news after rooting!
anlong:
Use either wireless adb found here: https://market.android.com/details?id=siir.es.adbWireless
or use debugging toggle found here: http://code.google.com/p/secure-set.../detail?name=ADBWidget-0.2-alpha.apk&can=2&q=
^ instructions for that:
Download ADBWidget.apk
Copy ADBWidget.apk to /system/app (you can use root explorer or something.)
Add ADBWidget to your home screen
Anlog,
I was able to get SuperUser installed following the directions on the other discussion! Thanks for much for all your hard work.
Working on getting Google Apps installed right now.
Update: Well I have SuperUser on my Nook, but whenever I try to copy anything to \system\app it tells me I don't have permissions. Looks like I can't get root to actually run.
run chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
which version of Gapps do I need Cyanogen 6 MDPI?
Make sure root is fully working before you try to install GApps. Use the latest ones for CM7 (I think its from August). You need to remount /system as RW before copying the files and setting permissions. Root Explorer lets you do all of that.
All of this could be done with an ADB script as well, but I won't have time to write one today. Anyone?

Do not install chainfire! I just tried it and it boot-looped, had to force factory restore.
Finally figured out what was wrong initially, root does not seem to work unless you manually enter commands. Attempted market setup, for some reason it is still force closing every time. Any chance someone who got it working could upload exact files they used.

What gapps did you use?
I used the cyanogen 7 universal gapps.
Well, I may have royally screwed up. I followed this tutorial, and I copied over the entire Apps folder from the gapps download. Now I get numerous force closes, and I have no keyboard! Any suggestion?

I ran into issues copying the whole folder over. I am currently running the google market though.
do everything one step at a time, install the googleframework first (from the directions on the kindle page), then do the market. I ran into the first time through the market would not actually connect so I rebooted the NT.
*note*
each time you reboot your NT you need to go in and what appears is toggle the usb debugging off then on, same with the "auto mount", and I did the unknown sources as well (not sure if this is necessary). It appears a reboot resets the flags and our menu isn't actually writing the settings so you have to toggle it.
Push comes to shove, start over with fresh reboot. It took me a few times (as it probably did others as well).
ok, so can someone who is patient tell me where I need to copy the system folder? help the feeble minded, please.....

that part is clearly stated but using root explorer and getting it to mount doesnt seem to work properly on my device. I have root and superuser. titanium backup works fine. for some reason root explorer on es explorer says it fails every time
-1 Go download latest Gapps and extract the contents to your HD. There will be two folders, one of which is "system."
-2 In the system folder there will be more folders, one of which is "app." Inside of app are all the system APKs.
-3 Detele SetupWizard.apk
-4 Now copy the app folder to the root of your NT SD card via USB.
-5 Next step you need to use ADB or Root Explorer...I used Root Explorer.
-6 Open root explorer, then go to sdcard and you should see the APP folder you copied.
-7 Once there, hit menu -> multi select > then put a check mark to what you want copied then hit the copy button.
-6 now hit back untill you're back in the root
-8 Then navigate to system, and at the top you should see button "Mount RW" hit that button.
-9 Then go into the App folder, and hit paste.
-10 All the selected APKs are now in the system/app folder.
-11 Now you need to give each of the copied apps permission by long-clicking on it till a menu comes up, hit permissions, then check all the check boxes next to "Owner"
-12 After you did that to all the apps hit the "mount RO" button on top of the screen
-13 Reboot the NT.
That should do it...hopefully I havent missed anything.

Sometimes we can use them by copying apk to data folder. Just copy the apk file to "/data/app folder and sey the permission. And reboot.

Hi very_lie, need specifics, what method are you using- ADB? Are you rooted? What app- is it compatible with your device, app store(play/aptoide) will tell you yea or nay. Assuming you are rooted, use a good file manager, go into settings of the file manager, give it root permissions, and change mount system folders to writable, they will be read only originally. Find out where the app needs to go. For example, earlier today, I replaced talkback app because the version that came with custom ROM force closed. Google came out with an update recently that works for me. In file explorer, went to /system/app to find out what its called- talkback.apk. Downloaded v. 3.5 from aptoide(be careful), renamed it talkback.apk. go to /system/app, deleted older talkback.apk, go to data/dalvic cache and delete system @ app @ talkback.apk @ classes.dex Took renamed apk, copied it(from sd), just long press on the file and options come up, select copy. Navigated to /system/app and paste it there. Reset permissions, again long press hit permissions, will probably at rw-rw-rw, change to rw-r--r-- read write, read, read. Reboot. Upon reboot, may say android is upgrading-all is good-dalvic cache is building. Now with certain apps you will want to delete its data- in /data/data. For this app didn't need to. Also some apps can't be put in /system/app. On my phone HTC Evo 3d, ones like facebook, Twitter, translate and other google app can. Ones like Skype n dropbox cannot- they forced closed and can cause others to misbehave. So open up your app n see if it works. Go back into file manager, /data/data and make sure your app's permissions are rwxr-xr-x. Hope this helps, follow this same format when putting"forcing" app on data partition- /data/app

I've got a old version of APK editor pro , that I can use . Version 1.00 to bypass any install errors .. don't ask me how to get it though. Regards
Of course I could also have flash stock firmware again but I needed a simple solution to use the media I had available at that moment, only two Note 8 (mine and my wife's to extract the apk) and little 3g signal (when I had) to find a solution.
I appreciate the recommendations after having solved the problem but the object of my post was to thank for the help, the rest are anecdotes.
Regards
