tw allows you to edit how many home screens you have, which is nice because seven just seems like too many for me. however, it always keeps the default home screen at 4, which is really ridiculous. so if I want to have 5 home screens, my default home screen will always be 4...I have searched everywhere and cannot find a solution for this that is not a launcher app. which I don't really want to do because I really like touch wiz. Is there a solution to this problem or not?
also if any dev would maybe want to include something like this in their build? not sure if it is a pressing issue with anyone else I'm just annoyed by the blatant oversight on samsungs behalf.
lol.......................................
^that's not constructive.
Get LauncherPro. This will solve your problems.
cant say i figured out how to edit the default home action.
but i suggest keeping all 7 possible windows, and keeping your "home" stuff on page #4. if you dont wanna use the "farther out" pages like #1 and #7 then leave em blank, thats what I do.
Which Screen?
Which screen do you want for your home-screen? An example of how I set a screen as home.
I have 3 screens, but TW wants screen 3 to be home. I want screen 2 to be home.
I add widgets and shortcuts to screen 1 and 2 and delete all screens besides those two.
That defaults home to screen 2.
I then try to add a widget that will not fit on either screen.
TW then automatically adds an additional screen to compensate for the new widget; screen 3.
I then delete the widget and have 3 screens with screen 2 as home.
TouchwizGTG, look it up.

Just pinch and zoom out on the current homescreen. It will pull up a veiw of all your screens. There you can move them around and delete unwanted pages.
One thing I know is the Verison fascinate ( there galaxy S ) you can select which screen is there home on the tw launcher.
You might try getting one of there roms and pulling their launcher out of it and putting it in yours.
Make sure you backup your good TW launcher.
Make sure you have another launcher installed. ( just in case it dosen't work...
Good luck...

So here I am, 5 yrs a RIM BB client, now holding in my hand a beautiful device called the dell streak. When I was with BB, I always had the most up to date firmware, months before Telus would drop them. I modded my system first to look like an iphone and then to look 'androidy' and 'linuxy'...
well, now I begin my search to perfect this device. I have a few questions and I hope I don't offend the 'experts' as a noob but I have an unlocked Streak running Froyo. While playing with it I have noticed that the page that is set as my home page when I click my home button is a series of apps recently opened. I would much rather have this be set to programs that do not refresh, call it my top 10 list.
I would also like to view, add and test themes, skins etc... that add more functionality to this phablet, tabone, or whatever the word is for this giant AND AWESOME device.
I want to create backgrounds with my daughter, my bike, my logo all my things...
I have tried to go through the 'settings' but honestly, it seems really limited.
I have read around the forums here, but most of this stuff seems advanced (which I will get to) but is there a noob guide somewhere?
The apps list you describe sounds like a Stage widget. Long press on it and it will change shape and a trash can will appear, without letting up on it drag it to the trash can. That's how you remove the stuff you don't want to make room for what you do. Some not Streak specific info.
You can add shortcuts and widgets to an empty area of a screen by holding your finger on that area until a menu pops up.
You can also put a shortcut to an app on the screen by opening the app tray and long pressing on the app icon you want on the screen. The app tray will disappear and you can drop the icon where you want.
When in doubt tap the menu key again. There may be another layer of options.
The Home key takes you back to the home screen from an app, but in some apps what happens in the background is different than what happens if you leave the app by pressing the back key. Leaving with the home key usually means that when you go back to the app you'll be at the same place.
Long pressing the Home key brings up a list of recently used apps. You can use this to quickly switch between apps or to get back to an app after a phone call or other activity.
A home replacement app changes the way your phone looks and the way you interact with it. The two favorites for the Streak are LauncherPro and ADW launcher.
How to change defaults apps/keyboards.

to set wallpapers all you need to do is transfer or take a picture of your daughter or bike etc and go into your menu, gallery, open the image then click on menu and Set As wallpaper
i prefer to call my streak perfection because it does everythign i ever wanted and more
if you have the ADW launcher you can download some themes from the android market you might be able to find more on the web using google not 100% sure if the dell UI does themes yet
the launcher pro for ssome of its features you have to pay so i dont really use that one myself
I suggest launcherpro
I have mine set so when I hit home, it opens apparently drawer and in apparently drawer I hit home it goes back to default home screen.
Also like it because you can have 5 shortcuts and make them also a swipe gesture to do something else.. making them 10 items....
Example....
Normal click- direct dial wife cell phone
Swipe- direct dial wife work phone
You can have multiple docks as well by swiping.
Other recommendation is to download and install dialer one..
That has a t9 dial keys which guesses your contact list.. kinda like the bb

I've had the G-tab for two weeks and always use something for a while before I ask questions. It looks like at least one of the questions, icon spacing is answered elsewhere but since I am going to as a few questions I'll still include it here.
I'm using TNT-L 4.4 but guessing most of these are universal to Android.
1. The G-tab does lock after a while and I just slide the lock up and it unlocks but is there a place to tell it you want a password. Also when it boots up I'd like a password on it.
2. I know it does multi-tasking but when I am in certain apps, browser and others, I have to either back out of it, or hit the home and when I go back the app starts over again. I thought you could just slide from screen to screen.
3. On the home screen when I put icons on the home screen only four across and and three high. Should be able to get at least 6 or 7 wide and 4 or 5 high. What's up with that?? Can you set icon spacing on the home screen?
4. A lot of devices you can have information displayed when it is locked like your name/phone number in case it is lost/found they know who's it is. Anything to do that?
5. I've seen a number of posts about screen protectors and most are related to fingerprints. I'm mostly wanting to get rid of glare. What is the best Anti-glare screen protector?
6. Where can I get free chocolate? Always a good question.
Thanks.
p.s. This is a great resource!

TNT-L is based off the stock ROM, I do not believe setting a lock-screen code is available. Other ROMs may/may not offer this choice. CM7 and those built from the CM7 base do.

No, no sliding from screen to screen as apps are designed to be inclusive to their own layout. Hold HOME to switch between apps. Don't press it, hold it....a screen will pop up with the last few used apps. Selecting it will take you right back to where you were in the app.

Not with the stock one. Launcher Pro, ADWLauncher, VTLLauncher will allow you to increase the columns and rows. I use an 8x8 grid that fits nicely without chopping off the text of the icons.

Yes, though off the top of my head I don't recall. Plenty of app/widgets that will overlay/use on top of the lockscreen.

This ought to be in the "Android Navigation 101" thread...it has been driving me nuts trying to figure it out. Thank you...
Regarding screen lock in TNT
I'm not sure if this will work in 4.4. I switched to Vegan a while back to get EAP functionality, so I haven't had to check. However, I did figure out how to do this a while back on TNTLite 5. It requires Launcher Pro (or a launcher with similar functionality).

Next question for a simp
What is the easiest way to get into the Sound applet without having to navigate through the settings menu? The volume control only brings up the Media Playing volume levels, and I'd like to be able to get into the Master and Notifications volumes quickly as well.
EDIT: set up a custom shortcut which gets to the general Sound Settings, but would still like a way to get directly to the volume applet.
It works in TNTL 4.4.0.
I just followed the instruction and was amazed.
Thank you!
I feel like this is something that is an issue in some third party launchers, but this is constantly happening in the leaked TouchWiz Honeycomb build for the Tab 10.1. I think this was happening to me before on the stock OS as well. I am not using ADW or LPP, just home launcher, and even if I am not rotating the display, the widgets and icons are always reloading/redrawing when I come back to it from an app. WHY??
I see no options or settings relating to this and I have done nothing to cause it.
Anyone else having this issue?? It happens to me like 7 out of 10 times when reverting to the homescreens.
I'm seeing the same thing on an Epic running ACS (Froyo). It tends to happen when I rotate the home screen. I've had the phone about 3 weeks - I only noticed it happening within the past week or so. It may have had something to do with an app I installed, but I have no idea what. Any ideas anybody?
Happening on the pre touchwiz stock rom. I use ADW and Stock Launcher. I also can't seem to make the default home setting start set. I repeatedly get prompted to choose a home screen when. K press HOME.

I think my issue may just be a performance problem with Touchwiz when there are a lot of icons in the home screens. If I clear the data for TwLauncher, it rotates pretty quickly. As I add my icons back, it gradually gets slower. Once I have them all back (I have about 70 icons), it takes 15-20 seconds to redraw. LauncherPro doesn't seem to have that problem, so I'll just use that for a launcher instead.
I would like to know if there is an app/widget that I can use to jump between home screens which aren't next to each other?
For example, if I number my home screens from 1 -> x from leftmost to rightmost screen. I would like to be able to press a widget which allows me to jump from screen 1 to screen 4, or 5, or 6 e.t.c. without having to slide through 2 and 3 and so on.
I presume that this may have to be part of a custom launcher which is no problem. I have bought most of them now anyway so don't mind if I have to switch to another.
Tasker should let you do this. i tried to test it but I use ADW ex, doesn't seem to be supported.
Go Home
Go to the current system Home Screen.
If the Page parameter is greater than 0, the home screen is requested to start on that page.
At the time of writing, Launcher Pro and Car Dock Home (v3) supported this option. If your Home Screen app doesn't support it, you could contact the developer and refer them to Tasker's developer page: tasker.dinglisch.net/developer.html for info on how to include it.

Most of the launchers, that I have used has this screen selection when swiping with 2 fingers.
One that surely has it is Zeam Launcher.
In ADW EX, you can add a link to another screen the same way you add any other shortcut. I believe when you choose Add, it's inside the top option (ADW Shortcuts?) and then at the bottom.
I have no phone, so this is subject to change
Thanks for the tips everyone. It certainly was a lot easier than I thought heh. The implementation within ADW EX is working fantastically.
Anyone know a way of doing it with the galaxy s2?
I did use the string
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=2
It worked fine on ke7 but I've updated to kh3 and now it no longer works.
After a reboot default.prop just reverts back to original.
No ideas?
i don't know how to change the default homescreen on touchwiz so all i can give as advice is this:
Try Go launcher EX there all you need to do in order to set a different homescreen is pinch on the homescreen area and it will take you into the zoomed out mode. after that you will notice that one screen is lit green just click on the home button on any other screen to change it into the default homescreen.
go launcher also gives you the ability to make your homescreens scroll without stops.
just try it and tell me your thoughts about it so that i try to further help you.

Thanks for your reply.
I've used Go Launcher many times and it's a fantastic launcher. However touchwiz is much lighter and seems more responsive so wanted to stick with it.
I was just hoping someone would know a hack.
+1 for this
I've still not found a way of getting this to work. I thinks its basically because default.prop file seems to always change back to its original state after a reboot.
So I add the line:
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=2
Reboot and its no longer there.
I have also noticed that after updating to KH3 the default.prop is no longer in /system location.
Does anyone know why default.prop now reverts back after a reboot and a way of preventing it happening?
Try the new TW from theme n application section.
It has the feature you need

Is it possible to do this yet without root? For example, have screen 4 as default so that you only need to swipe left or right by 3 screens?
