Sleep of Death(Solution!) :) - HD2 Android SD Development

I found a way to make the SOD never happen on the SD card method type builds. Just play music and put it on repeat and turn the media volume all the way down. You will still have your notifications volume and system volume. Yes I know that the batter may die quicker but! This is a solution that works as of now! .
PS I LOVE ANDROID!

Your funny...

Lol then you will get 100 ma at standby because your device is not even sleeping, that's why it will fix the sleep of death because it only screen off but no sleep
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

out with the old sleep of death
introducing the new and improved induced comatose

Thanks for your suggestion, but to me this sounds more like a Death by Sleep deprivation ... which will put the battery under stress and will reduce its life tremendously. And I do not mean just the life endurance between recharges, but the overall number of recharges. Basically you will kill your battery, and if I were you I would not do it ..

by far the best solution i've read (and used) is upgrading the radio. i had a 2.08 and i upgraded it to 2.15. never had freezes or sods after that.

Does upgrading the radio require any flashing or upgrading ROM? what are the risks?

soak your device in redbull for 2 minutes, that will get rid of SOD

It will only upgrade the radio. I'm not sure of the risks, not anything I'd be afraid..

I found that upgrading my radio from 2.10 to 2.15 solved my SOD issue.

Agreed
i had the same symptoms like 3 months ago, flashed new radio and poof ... no more SOD's

re: Does upgrading the radio require any flashing or upgrading ROM? what are the risks?
well, you will have to ensure that you hardspl your device first. only then can you start rom/radio upgrades. the risk? without hardspl, you could brick your unit. with hardspl, you can then upgrade roms and radios anytime. just make sure the radio you're upgrading is compatible with your unit. e.g., my t-mobile is compatible with the 2.15 radio. not sure if this applies to the european version though.
by upgrading your radio, this will not affect the contents of your device. by upgrading your rom, everything gets erased as the new rom overwrites the content (thus make sure you do a back up first).

yes you'll have to constantly watch it and always be pressing something to keep it on... but I assure you, with this technique, youll never have a sleep of death.

New Radio 1.38.30.10 Imate??

There is a new Radio from Imate in the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms Anyone try it and is it any better. I didnt download it yet but I imagine take the RUUSigned and put with RUU Wrapper v4 and I'll try it out today.
Here is the thread about the ROM update that is containing the new Radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299597
I combined the RUU with the Olipro RUUWrapper v4 and uploaded to a NON Rapidshare mirror and added to wiki.
http://www.bestsharing.com/files/INdT1250288/RUU Radio Only 1.38.30.10.exe.html
Radios can be uploaded to the xda ftp, the M$ crap was just for ROMs.
been trying it out for the past 2 days...i don't know if it's the new combo of the new Lvsw build with this radio but my battery has gone down faster. I work in a building where typically reception is from poor to non-existent. I carry the phone in my pocket and set to auto band mode and the past two days working from 8 to 1 Battery life have been going down to 40%. On the older wm6 builds with 1.38.00.10 I can typically get around 70% by the time I leave work...
So what's everyone else getting? Have you experienced a decrease in battery life?
On a plus note, I can see that it hangs on to a 3G signal longer before it switches to Edge and a very slight increase in reception.
its no real change from the 1.38 update.... just fixes for WCDMA on the 850Mhz band....

I noticed the battery drain too.
I noticed something "strange" but I can't assure (yet) if it's caused by this Radio ROM or by the WWE AKU 3.3.1 ROM.
The strange behaviour is that my phone auto switched-on apparently without reason (?). It happens when I enter in the underground and the phone losses the signal, and when I leave the underground and the phone catch the signal again...
Since I've installed the Radio ROM and the AKU 3.3.1 almost at same time, I don't know what is the cause. But I will return to a prior Radio ROM in order to know it.
In any case, did anyone noticed something similar?
BTW: Bootloader 1.11 is really fast flashing radio!!!
Fail at 7% ...
Trying to upgrade from the HTC ROM 2.11 which install SPL 1.11
When I run the radio only upgrade, it will start flashing but will stop at around 7%, then reboot.
Any ideas?

My battery is holding charge just fine. My phone hasn't been plugged in since I left for lunch from work yesterday afternoon. I have used it to make several calls and emails since yesterday and it's still showing a full charge.
Of course I live in an area that has really good coverage as well, so my phone doesn't search for signal that much.
I can report the same... no noticed change to battery life.
I have noticed a massive change with battery life. Also i cant go a call more than 30sec with out it breaking up, never a problem before with 1.34
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have been running version 2.11 for the HTC Qtek (South Africa) on my imate JasJam, it was running 1.38.00.10
I upgraded the radio to 1.38.30.10, and three times in 24 hours now I've noticed that the jasjam was asking for my PIN code and had switched the phone off.
This never happened with the earlier 1.38.
Has anyone experienced something similar ?
Thanks
JY
No, not to me..
Maybe depends by the ROM installed..
I upgraded the Radio for 2 days and can tell the followings: -
The time required to search network in Hong Kong (3 HK) has been reduced and the signal is stronger than 1.38.00.10. However, I notice one problem, I tried to call my mobile a few times after the upgrade, and 2 out of 10 calls had been directed to voice mail (signal was strong at that time). Don't know it is the problem of this rom or I had that problem long ago (as I hadn't tried before to call myself so many time).

Mad Battery Drain - Radio or OS?

Recently tried some roms and settled for energy warhawk... I also flashed a new radio. 1.02.25.28 to replace 1.02.25.19.
Today, I had insane battery drain. 100% after overnight charge... Off the charger at 6am. 10% warning at 2pm.
Only 1 call, some GPS testing and no wifi or bt...
Is it the the energy warhawk or the radio rom?
Using the same ROM with radio 1.14.25.30.
I didn't have any battery drain issues (sofar)
Maybe this question would be better placed in either the radio thread or the Energy ROM thread?
Try to check out if your device is not in screenoff state instead of sleep state.

If you use that ROM, have you read the first few posts in his thread? Between others it is stated that you should wait for several charging cycles till the battery meter "settles". I think all users of the EnergyRoms know that by now. The meter is just fuzzy after a hard reset and needs some time - in my case 3 days - to come near to reality.
I live in Greece and my carrier is Voda (as you can see).
I tried warhawk titanium + 1.02.25.28 radio and I had the same issues. Batery meter in today screen indicated 70% and system batery was 82 for example. Also batery drain was auful even with GSM only.
I flashed warhawk standard + 1.12.25.19 - Raphael Radio from Test rom (best radio for my device) and everything is fine.
I 'm stick with it.

EXTREMELY important. Normally the rilphone.dll is in the zip included. If not, try to search the radio thread.
However, in some cases, the rilphones might be different to the radio version and still perform well. Like in the latest EnergyRom for TP. Here the chef recommends even to have a combination which doesn't fit in their versions. But it is widely tested and found good.
Normally if rilphone doesn't match the version of the radio, you will have awful drain, the phone gets even warm if not hot...
Search, search, search

SenseHero, battery usage and radio roms

Hi everyone, I'm new to the whole Android rom scene, coming from Windows Mobile. A couple days ago I rooted my Telus GSM Hero and installed SenseHero, and while I like the rom it seems to be using a lot of battery, even just on standby and with SetCPU underclocking it to 160 max/122 min on the "screen off" profile. I'm wondering if updating the radio could fix this, and if it had any possible drawbacks. Currently the radio is 63.18.55.06eu_6.35.06.18 and from some other threads I've seen recommendations to use the latest radio from here. Is there anything I should watch out for? Also, does anyone have any other ideas on what could improve the battery life? Thanks.

Yes it can and probably will improve your battery life. I'm 90% you're going to have a painfree installation and there is no drawbacks. You should look out for something too: An unsuccessfull installation of a radio = brick and sadface xD so DO NOT pull the battery under installation and have plenty of battery on and you'll do fine

Phone turns off itself

Hi. My phone often turns off since I flashed official Gingerbread (2.3.3) ROM.
When it turns off, I'm usually using it. Till now it never turned off at stand-by mode. Does anyone know, what causes this?
Other things:
1. When I played FIFA 10, the football field's textures weren't showing, but everything with field's players was fine.
2. When I ran Quadrant Advanced, at "3D Corridor" and "Planets" there were no textures. When I run the Standard version of this app, there are no problems.
Maybe gpu is cooked?
For starters, tune down your overclocking.
Ok, I'll try it and then I'll say, did it work or not.
You are probably going to seriously eff up your phone at that high overclock. It might even burn/damage the inside circuits if you're not in a really cold country.

I just clocked CPU to 245/710 MHz, I had 787 MHz max. But anyway, before I flashed official 2.3.3 ROM, there wasn't a problem like that.
EDIT: I installed NFS Shift game to see, how are the 3D graphics working. When I tried to enter this game, I couldn't get further than EA Games logo - the game powered down and I had brought to the homescreen.
I can't fix this issue by installing another ROM, right? ... It's related with hardware.

Thank you, guys. I'll go to the shop where I bought this phone and will ask about warranty.
Thanks again.
UP!
So, I didn't repair my phone with warranty, I only flashed stock Froyo with KDZ updater and everything was solved.. but.. I still have this problem with ROMs that are based on official Gingerbread (also with official GB, that's not modified) and with CM7 by mik (only with build 6.6.1)..
Can someone try to play NFS Shift on official GB (or a ROM, based on it) and answer here - is it working or not.
(for me it crashes after EA logo)
well, I count it as a .35 kernel issue..
What do you think?
I've tried it a while back (when it was €0.99) on stock firmware and couldn't get any further either. Got a refund, so I can't retest it on the CM7/mik I'm running now, but it could very well be a general issue.

I see...
So, currently for me the best choice is mik's CM7 build6.5.7 (uses .32 kernels) + fk v18.
I leave that entirely up to you... I just want to protect you from trying different ROMs in search of one that is able to run NFS, when it may very well impossible

yeah, so ROMs that are based on froyo (or .32 kernel) are the most stable.
never got NFS Shift to work on 2.3.3 ROMs.
(actually I don't play this game, but with it I can see, how is the ROM working)
that's my conclusion.
btw, haven't your phone have the problem with automatic turning off in GB?
thank you for responsiveness.
Sorry, the only screen-turning-off phenomenon I see on CM7 is the one I see when I use Skype... hate that darn proximity sensor
As for stability... well, it could just mean that NFS works on a bug-assumption that has been fixed in the meantime. Wouldn't be the first time.

sry, but i didn't mean screen turning off - phone is turning off.. it just immediately turns off, but this happens only when I use it.
Ah! ... sorry, no idea aside from the usual: Do you overclock? Do you have a lot of applications on SD? Do you use a task killer that may be over-eager? Have you checked your memory stats?

too much oveclocking indeed..
yeah, the phone was overclocked always. at beginning @787 mhz, then 729,and after that 768
on sd I move applications only then if they are bigger than 10 Mb (sometimes I don't if there is enough free space in phone's memory).
don't use task killer anymore. I used it earlier, but understood that there's no point of this.
I don't check my memory stats, but do I have to?
You shouldn't have to ... but if the phone crashes then at least something isn't working like it's supposed to, meaning anything is possible. You can get your memory stats with cat /proc/meminfo .
Have you tried running the fix permissions function in ClockworkRecovery? It never worked with any of the issues I had, but it's worth a shot.

Pros/Cons of new Firmware

I've been debating whether or not to upgrade my firmware to the latest and I keep going back and forth.
Can we discuss the pros/cons of doing so?
All I really know is that NOT having the new firmware limits support for most ROMS and can cause some issues. I have also heard its hard (impossible?) to go back to the old one if it was necessary to do so?
Thanks!

Pros:
ICS is awesome!
Smoother, faster, etc
Battery seems to charge sightly faster
Cons:
Bad battery life (horrible, worse than GB)
CPU overheats (sometimes to 110 degrees!)
Worse reception
Can't downgrade to old firmware till we get S-OFF
In other words, don't upgrade!
I personally have stayed off the firmware and I'm going to wait until ROMs are based off the official OTA or we get S-OFF.
There's a firmware patch anyway that lets you run recent ROMs on the old firmware, so that's a plus.
I've been running ICS ROMs for months with no issues and it's actual ICS.
Heard too many issues coming off the leak anyway.
It seems like the new firmware has the CPU running full tilt where the old firmware did a better job of governing. So the phone gets hot quick(for me screen on only) but stop using it and it cools off fast as well.

I thought the CPU issues were with the kernel, not the firmware?
For me, the news has all been good except for one thing re: new firmware...
Cell Reception.
I can't keep a call connected unless I go outside. Data is great, and overall signal quality is good... until I get a phone call. Then I immediately lose at least 2 bars! How dumb is that!?!?
I can't wait to get S-Off so I can flash the old radio back on. I'm hoping that fixes it.
Pro : no more Blue Flicker
Cons : Reboot like a zillion time a day WTF ??? Bur I think it's just me
Glad I posted this before just going for it. Seems like its not worth it at this point in time. S-off is a long was away, right? I'll just stick it out with the old one.

I do too, but I think it's more due to the Devs like Nils and lllboredlll tweaking their ROMS for max battery conservation than the new firmware.
I've just solved my rebooting Issue by doing this
1. Reboot into recovery -> Format all to EXT3 and wipe everything
2. Lock Bootloader
3. Flash the leak -> let it run till the end and will automatically reboot back into bootloader.
4. You'll notice the "TAMPERED" on top of the screen has been gone.
5. Flash the leak the 2nd Time and you'll be good.
I've been on it for 3 days without a reboot or slow down or heating issue. Now, I gotta say this leak is great in term of stability, battery life, signal (in Seattle,WA) and performance compared to Gingerbreak.
First, here's a poll on battery life. It seems most people got better or the same battery life with the update.

I upgrade to the new firmware and at first thought I was getting horrible battery life, then it got better about 8 hours with 2 hours screen on time.
Then, I decided to go back down to the old firmware and radio because Andy told me he was getting better battery life on it. I went back down, a and honestly--I haven't noticed a real big difference in battery life with screen on. Both firmwares get about 2 hours on screen time. You can get awesome battery life on either ROM If you leave screen off, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of using the phone. The new firmware gets better battery life when the screen is off, I think.
The radios are hit or miss, I think. The 4g reception is always different day to day in my daily commutes. Sometimes I'll get a constant 4g signal. Other days it'll be spotty, while some days it just stay on 3g and then I have to put it in airplane mode to get 4g again. And then 5 minutes later it goes back to 3g. I haven't really noticed much of a difference in call quality, but don't really pay attention to that.
I may go back to the new RUU, honestly.

Sorry for the silly question but how do I see what firmware version I'm on?

Is it the build number?
3.11.605.22?
I guess what confused me was something in this thread led me to believe that if you used the "patch" to install from GB, you would still be on the old firmware but running ICS. I'm currently on ClearnROM ICS Pro (ICS obviously)
The very first thing I did upon getting S-OFF was to get off that darned leaked firmware.
I sugesst waiting, personally.
there's so much more negatives than positive, at least was for me.
I run ICS on GB firmware and runs great. Sense 4, does as well. the patch works very well.
also before returning to GB frimware, I was running the leaked for a while and I personally didn't notice the new firmware to be much if any smoother.
all it did was overheat and destroy my batt life.
lesson learned for me.
no more messing around until we have an option to return to normal.
I am just lucky that I didn't brick my rez in the beta s-off(which the method works great BTW!, I hope to see it released ASAP!!) and was able to return to stock firmware, and enjoy my phone again.

Just so we all know, what all did it take for you to roll back to the GB firmware when you had S-Off?
