I've tried literally every Rom for my vibrant as they came out over time...and and my GPS sometimes work and don't. Mounting and random little glitches. The most stable rom I've used is 2.1 Stock, and I justed flashed 2.2 Stock. Whats everyone opinions? I thinking decent GPS. XD

Have you tried digitaltoddys fix? It's in the general sticky (signature).
Trigger works perfect for me.
The Trigger or the Axura both provide pretty good GPS. Both, I get 10-15 sats with 5-7 lock 20-40 sec average.
Also, GPS aids and the digitaltoddys fix both work as well. You just have to experiment with them. Plus, when you first test (after fresh flash) you need to let it find for about 3-5 mins for 1st run, after that flawless.......... at least for me
GPS seems very strange in my experience and may depend on your location. Personally I've found KB1 and bionix v 1.3 or trigger to be the best, while others have issues getting locks on this modem. It may be due to hardware differences, but it's tough to narrow it down. Best bet is to experiment and see what works best for you.
I've been using the stock 2.2 and GPS locks instantly. No Mounting issues or data problems. Completely Awesome.
I've using axura without any issue. GPS usually lock within a couple of seconds.

So a little about my phone. I am running a custom ROM Fusion 1.1 with a custom Kernel from Team Whiskey Core V3 2.1 also have OCLF. My phone right after flashing the new ROM seemed to lock on quickly to several Sats 5 plus every time. But for no reason and with no adjustments to the default settings I now have a very hard time locking on to any Sats. Takes 10 plus minutes and only can get a few to lock.
So the only things I have changed on my phone recently is trying a few different Kernels. Would this even effect the GPS sat locks at all? I would think not but??
Anyone have anything new that I have yet to read about that they have tried that seems to make the GPS better?
My phone's GPS might just suck who knows.
Thanks in advance!

Yea I did.. Just went outside and switched to Cold then delete GPS data ran fix for 10 minutes and got a lock on 4 sats. Switched back to Hot and didn't seem to help much.
You did the reboots and everything?
Odd man, if that didn't work I am at a loss. Hopefully others can chime in for you.
I would think the ROM is what affects GPS signal the most. I was running Bionix 1.9 with KK kernel and the GPS was money. Now running Obsidian V1 (didn't switch to V2 because I read people were having GPS issues on it), and GPS still works great. In fact, when using Car Home, it shows the exact street address I am at.

from what i understand, yes a different kernel can affect gps because the kernel contains the drivers. it is my understanding that this is why the 2.2 roms have working gps now: an 'official' kernel was leaked and the gps drivers were pulled from it. however the rom will also affect gps. for example, i was running bionix 1.9.1 and gps was great, flashed bionix final and gps went to ****, flashed fusion 1.2 and gps was working again.
So I've done a lot of searching and haven't really found anything definitive. I've found that with some roms I'll lose GPS signal after a certain amount of time (say 10-30 minutes) and have to turn GPS off and back on or reboot the phone. I saw something about flashing a different radio may make a difference. Kinda just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on the issue or if maybe there is something else I can do before I go flashing a different radio.
Currently running CELB 4.1 and baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and I have the issue.. I've had it with most of Tazz's roms as well. KaosFroyo is the only one Ive used that I've never seen the issue with, but I'm really diggin CELB right now and this is the ONLY issue I've got with it.
Have you tried GPS status in the market? I know it will help you lock in a signal, so it would make sense that it would also help keep your GPS locked in.

I have now.. I did the reset and download options in the program. Too bad this isn't something I can quickly test. I'll report back with the results. Thanks!
I have noticed this as well. Last time it happened to me it was 4:30 in the morning, and the "GPS lost" message came up about 180 seconds before I had to make two freeway changes in an area I'd never been before. (CELB 3.9 and same radio as your case). Fortunately for me I had reviewed the route, so I more or less knew what to do.
If I recall correctly, it has always happened after the Nav app had been running for a fair bit of time - at least 30 minutes or more.
However, I don't know if it is something about the root ROMs or not - I started using rooted ROMs back in March or so, so I really don't have a tremendous operating baseline on stock 2.1 ROMs to compare it to. Maybe it is a problem there, too!
If I recall correctly, the last time it happened, I just pulled up GPS Status and asked it reload the aGPS state (without exiting the Nav app), and the Nav app seemed to gracefully recover.
Annoying? Yeah. I don't know what can be done about it, though - like the "undead calls" problem, it happens so infrequently that it is hard to know whether or not a ROM change actually fixes the problem.

I had the same problem with every 2.2 rom I used GPS with. I decided to go back to 2.1 because I have been needing GPS alot more often lately but I havent tested it out since I made the switch. I'll try it out today and report the results tonight.
This same thing seemed to happen on the 2.1, CyanogenMod 5 based ELB by Conap as well. If it is happening with all of the 2.2 ROMs, I wonder if it's just a CyanogenMod issue?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6812308#post6812308 (this was not the only person reporting it, if you search that thread.)
I really don't think it's ALL 2.2 CM roms though. I've gone on 7 hour car trips with Kaos Froyo without a single drop.. to and from. I've seen another theory somewhere around here about it being certain hardware revisions that act this way with certain software builds. At lease we've got a thread dedicated to this issue now.. maybe we can get something figured out.
Still don't know if the GPS status program helps.. I left navigation turned on for a bit sitting in my house and it stayed connected for the half an hour I left it, just don't think that's gonna be an accurate test with not moving around and all. If it doesn't work I will try a different radio.. I saw somewhere one guy had good luck with a specific older version radio. If that's what it comes down to I'll try.
I have been having issues with the GPS working on both of my phones while using 2.2 roms. I switched to 2.1 a few days ago and I used the GPS on my way to work this morning and didnt have any issues. I also had to flash Senseable a couple of months ago while on a road trip because I was tired of loosing the GPS signal every half hour. It may be a CM thing.
Im having the same issues as well. Haven't found a fix yet..
I've had this issue, after I flashed KaosFroyo(v36), and XTR(4 i think). I recently unrooted using Flashback21 v1 and flashed with the radio included. I have gone back to xtr 5 now and have had no lost gps in over a week. Don't have a clue as to why. hope it helps someone.

I have flashed the radio directly with the verizon zip file that is around and I still get inconsistent results But it always drops a signal eventually in about a 1/2 hour

I've seen it on several ROM's as well. From what i've messed with, it doesn't seem to be dependent on the autokiller memory preset, radio firmware, or amount of overclocking i'm doing. It doesn't seem to be dependent on how many programs are running either. I usually have nav and pandora running while i'm in the car, and sooner or later, the gps poops out.
I feel like it seems to happen less, now that i'm back to using the on-demand governor. but that could just be in my head.
I've had to go back to a 2.1 rom because of it. Its very annoying when the goa signal gets lost right before the exit ramp.

Im thinking of going back to a 2.1 rom as well...
I have also seen the same results on any 2.2 or higher rom. I have since returned to XTRRom 5.0 and have not had a single problem with GPS on any of my jogging runs. I definitely think it is a CM thing. At least on my phone.
Using kaosfroyo v39 and I flashed that sprint phone radio on my eris and haven't had any gps issues. In fact, just the opposite. Mine would lock up before the v39 and the radio flash
I flashed that radio as well and today not one issue at all. Will test more tomorrow
I'm using the 2.42.02.10.29 sprint radio and still seeing it drop out.

Today I even flashed back to the July 2010 version (2.42.01.04.27). the gps dropped out almost every 5 minutes while i was driving around. that's the worst i've seen. So i flashed back to the 2.42.02.10.29 sprint radio again. I haven't seen very good navigation performance on the v1.1 gingershedbread overall, actually. my position on the gps nav doesn't update very often, although it seemed like the voice instructions were still pretty well timed as usual.
Hey guys, I'm what you would call somewhat of a novice user. My GPS when using the actual satellites doesn't work anymore. It can only use the cell tower triangulation method which is useless for the turn by turn navigation app. It worked fine until I followed this guide to flash custom roms, unlock the bootloader etc. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=113626
After I did that, the battery life was very poor so I installed edgan's kernel from the same page. The phone, rom, battery etc worked great except the GPS. Any ideas how I can fix this? I'm on Bell Canada if that makes a difference. Any more info let me know! Thanks.
edgan's kernel ? its old ...
Try testing the GPS with softwares like: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest and https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
I recommend you unlock your bootloader, install recovery with ROM Manager, install good rom such as CM7 or Aura or DarkSide or HomaBase, install the latest radio and good kernel if you want.

Ok I have Rom manager and my bootloader is already unlocked. I'm gonna try installing that kernel you gave me there, see if that fixes the GPS issue. I don't understand what a radio does, should I install that one too? I'm honestly fine with this rom I and how it looks but I just really want the GPS fixed cause I use it a lot.

Ok the new kernel didn't help so maybe I'll try the radio. I'm not gonna bother unless someone thinks this will help because I've read elsewhere that it's a risky procedure.

Actually seems to be working now just took awhile to lock on. Thanks for the kernel!

I suppose this is somewhat of an update. Kernel seems good, good battery life. The GPS works now but takes an eternity to lock on. Can someone suggest a fix? Would a new rom, radio etc fix that? I hate to be such a bother but I use the GPS daily for jogging and turn by turn navigation. I'm inexperienced and don't want to cause further problems so I'll wait this time before I do anything. Thanks again.

Try this guide for fixing GPS problems : https://code.google.com/p/atrix-dev-team/wiki/FAQ
Other than that, i think you should full wipe everything (data,cache,dalvik-from recovery), install a new rom, install new radio, install the faux123 kernel.
I did all this yesterday and my gps now works great and locks in a few seconds .
There seems to be some kind of inconsistent GPS issue with the Atrix. On my Atrix (US-ATT) sometimes, but not always the GPS will not get a "fix". This seems to only happen occasionly however. It seems to work better if the first use of the day is when the phone has cell tower service.
Perhaps there is a related GPS issue. The Atrix only registers an "accuracy" value of zero.
This has been noted in the following link:http://community.developer.motorola...o-Location-Accuracy-on-Gingerbread/td-p/17116
Ok well I've tried a new kernel, used GPS status to calibrate compass and installed a new radio and nothing has worked. I'm assuming I need a new rom then. Can anyone suggest a good rom? I saw the CyanogenMod 7 thread but it says the fingerprint scanner won't work. I use that all the time so I would prefer not to sacrifice it if there are other good roms out there. I'm hoping for some suggestions and then I'll get on that to see if it fixes my GPS issue. Thanks guys.

Look at their features, read the comments and pick the one the look good to you.
If I am having trouble with my GPS I will...
turn the phone off
take out the battery
then put it back in.
Most of the time the GPS will then work.
i've never had the gps not work completely on the atrix. i've noticed that with certain roms and radios will take longer to get a signal and less reliable once locked. not sure if this will fix your gps problem but try flashing homebase its one of the best roms out there and gps works great for me, i get a signal lock in my house. it also doesnt loose any features like CM7 with webtop and fingerprint. it will install the latest kernal(faux), rom(2.3.4), and radio(1.77.30). its very easy to flash just use CWM or rom manager. theres a few versions of homebase, try the blue chronic and update using blue chronic 6.2. remember to clear cache before you flash and run the finalizer after the update.
Thank you for the recommendation. I didn't see this before I installed the alien rom and I must say I love the look. The GPS works great now too. Everything is in working order and worked fine for about 3 days and then today my battery wouldn't charge past 65%. I'm in the process of killing it to 0 and then charging it back up too see if that will fix it. Anyone else heard of this?

The battery thing happened to me yesterday on stock GB. I think Diviance mentioned that he's seen this a few times on Aura, as well as some other ROMs. I just kept using it as normal, and I think after my 3rd charge it went back to 100. (I had just re-calibrated my battery so I was too lazy to do it again.)
You can try discharging as you mentioned, but other than that I haven't seen a sure fire fix for this. It seems to pop up over and over, across different ROMs.
Oh as long as it fixes itself eventually, no worries. Thanks alot for the info!

I am currently running the latest "stable" Cyanogen ROM with Eugeans kernel. I have tried every kernel, and many different GPS setting and GPS fix's.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't..
Reboot soemtimes fix's it, sometimes it don't...
I just want a stable ROM with working (like always works) GPS. If i hve to go back to 2.2.1 i will, but i would like to find a 2.3.* ROM.
Also is it true that there are different hardware configurations for the Vibrant (T-mobile US)
Thank you for your time
I think its just gonna be flaky with any 2.3.X rom until the proper source codes are released....I've tried almost every 2.3 rom available for the vibrant and its all the same.....but I do love miui.
If you truely want a stable GPS i think your gonna have to go 2.2.

I love Cyanogen and all the goodness that comes from the open Android community, but if i am to honest with myself GPS is one of the most important aspects of owning a smartphone.
I actually did not even own a cellphone before i bought the G1, and the final spec that put me in "Buyer" more was GPS.
So yea, time to Odin back to stock.
I'm running DarkyRom 10.2.2 its 2.3.4 JVQ. Using the bullet kernel I get a 20' location but it takes quite awhile 10 min for the initial lock then is good after that.
2.2 roms lock in seconds. I was lucky and always had a good gps.
Eugene's newest kernel is crazy fast and accurate. DO NOT APPLY ANY FIXES ON TOP OF HIS WORK. And it will work. First boot up gps test and let it run for 10 mins. Then reboot and test on a a maps program I get 16 ft in under 30 secs and 10 within a min ..... all indoors.

Hi,
I've been constantly having issues with the GPS on my vibrant. I got a replacement vibrant from t-mo about 3 mos ago because the GPS rarely locked on my original phone. This new phone's GPS worked fine for a while with the stock Froyo ROM. It always seemed to lock in less than 1 min. After a few weeks, the GPS stopped locking reliably for me.
I tried an update to CM7.1 and didn't see any improvement with the GPS.
So, here's my quetsion:
1. What is the best ROM for GPS usage on the vibrant?
2. Is this GPS Fix still relevant?
I'm running CM-7.1.0.1-Vibrant.
Kernel version - 2.635.12-gdf10700 [email protected] #1 (that's a mouthful).
Thank you.
If GPS needs to be absolutely 110% working, then MIUI (if you want GB) or any 2.2 ROM will suffice. As for the other GPS fix relevancy, it can be really hit or miss. On some GB ROMs it works, on others it doesn't. It's really by chance that the planets align and the powers above grant you vibrant with working GPS

I have a similar problem, I found a solution in ICS ROM.
When you turn on the phone, before it finds a network, you need to run any diagnostic applications of GPS, for example GPSLB TEST NB and immediately start the GET POSITION.
You will find that it finds satellites at once. Turn off the software.
you have GPS working until the next reboot...
The vibrant has always had gps issues. Theres a fix somewhere i cant remember where. Havent had a vibrant in awhile
