Okay. The gingerbread keyboard is just garbage. I cant figure out how to get the htc_ime keyboard on my phone. Ive downloaded the lowres and clicker apks. Change keyboard inputs and it just force closes. Ive tried installing different ways with no luck.
Anyone have any ideas?
Im currently running on my gsb 1.7 gingerbread rom on my never dead eris
Go to gimpsta.com and choose the froyo build and you can either make you own or use a premade one used it before on v1.6 and it worked great.

It's not a flashable zip. Just a regular old zip file. Unzip and click apk to install.
To select, checkmark in settings; lanuage+keyboard then open keyboard. GB will stll come up. Long press setting key, choose select input, and choose HTC IME.

Configure settings from the settings > lang +kb options.
Calibration won't work until you install Clicker.apk (not included)

You do NOT want the "hi" version.

get swype!!
Can't get it to work either
I had this working on xtrSENSE before, but now it won't work since I reflashed it. Normally, I hold MENU until it prompts me to choose a keyboard. This time, it always defaults to the stock keyboard. On 2.1, you cannot choose the keyboard through Settings > Language & keyboard.
This thing has a hard time rebooting too, so I don't want to turn it off. If I have to reboot or factory reset then I will, but it's a pain in the neck.

So...here we go. List items that are bugging you...and hopefully people will have a fix.
1) Problem: Only top button wakes.
2) Some people report camera button does not open Camera app.
3) Language bar still present when using hard qwerty.

1) Everything can wake up except menu button.
2) Camera button is now activated by a 3 second press
3) Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Untick Default Input Settings
Hope this helped =)
My camera button wont open up cam app. Hold for 10 sec now

For the annoying language bar, you can opt for a better option. Use swiftkey or Smart keyboard and it will replaced the language bar with text prediction box. A lot more useful.
For me the most annoying thing is the blue theme that has got even worse and still can't be changed!!!
Other than that I'm pretty happy with the update. I might not say that in a few weeks once I've tried everything but for now I'm happy.

Cheers I can confirm this works
I've gone with anysoftkeyboard which is free and doesnt put anything on your screen.
In the 1.6 version of gmail - you could press shift+s and then select the text you wanted to copy into the clipboard.
Now that 2.1 has been released pressing shift+s just makes a cursor appear, which is fine if the x10 mini/pro had a trackball but it doesn't.
Does anyone know how to copy and paste in 2.1 gmail?
EDIT (2010,11,10) - Found Solution:
If you press and hold the shift button while selecting your text on the screen it copies to the clipboard just fine
(obviously this is only a solution if you have a mini pro)

Actually, after a bit of searching i've found the solution to this.

I will update my original post.
one annoyance would be that I have to use Roadsync for Microsoft Exchange?
does anyone know how to use/install default Android 2.1 email client for exchange?
is it possible with anysoftkeboard to have an on-screen keyboard with multikeys (I mean [abc] [def] [ghi] ...)? because a whole screen keyboard in portrait mode is too small, that's why I have a minipro!

Well I am talking about copying content from existing email while you are reading it. Futhermore I have mini, so no shift button, but then most of the android phones dont have qwerty so how the hell this works in general for others?

I'm not sure what you mean.. But in the gmail app you can copy text from any message (either a received, a draft or already sent) with the method that was described.
Again, i know this doesn't really help you in any way because you don't have a keyboard :-(

This works...sort of.
I now have native exchange support on my X10 mini pro.
I used root explorer to move /system/app/SemcEmailSmall.apk to my sdcard
then copied the email.apk from the link above into /system/app/ and set permissions to rw-r--r--
so far so good. Doesn't look like there is an option for calendar sync but at least exchange mail works.

Hi recently installed StreakDroid 1.8.1. There doesnt seem to be an option in the method to change between Swype and android keyboard. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thx.
If you are asking how to change between keyboards then do the following.
In the typing box, touch and hold until you get the option to change the input method.
If you are saying that when you do that, android does't show up, go into settings, language keyboard, and make sure android keyboard is selected.
If it is selected, and you are not getting the option, then you have a bad 1.8.1 image. Maybe you used perfmod option in the install.txt.
I would recommend going back to stock froyo 2.2 and then back to 1.8.1

You can fix by installing titanium backup.
Install your favorite keyboard first
Then go into titanium and freeze the android keyboard. Reboot then choose whatever your fav is

Unlesss you never want to use a particular keyboard you don't need to do this.
This shows how it should work. If you have the keyboard you want selected in settings, then you should be able to pick it after long pressings in a text field and choosing input method.
After you install any keyboard you have to go to Settings->Language & keyboard settings and check the box next to the new keyboard to make it available to use. It will not show up in the list of input methods unless you do this.
Has anybody messed with this to get it to work. I tried a couple things but it didn't work. No crash just didn't show. Thanks

I got the keyboard to show by going to /Settings/Language & Keyboard/HTC_IME mod settings/User Interface and changing the Key width adjust and Key height adjust. It actually didn't matter what I changed them to, I just iterated through 5, 10 and 15px, and after a few changes the keyboard just appeared. (Don't forget to Kill keyboard in order for the changes to take effect; also in the HTC_IME mod settings).
The only thing not working for me right now is the vibration feedback when a key is pressed. All necessary settings seem to be in place, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

Didn't work for me. I went through 5, 10, and 15. killing the keyboard each time. Then went through the entire list from 0-15 killing the keyboard after every change. Still couldn't get it to popup. Are you using the hires froyo from the htc_ime mod thread?

Yes. I actually tried both htc_ime_jonasl_hires_27.zip and htc_ime_jonasl_hires22_27.zip, and at this point I'm not sure which is the one that's working. I'm assuming it is the 22_27 version, but I may be mistaken.
Did you try both?

I ended up getting it to work by going through the gimpsta themer and selecting the optimus option in the high res kitchen. It shows just fine without tweaking it, but it does fill the screen in portrait. In landscape it works perfectly. So I am going to tweak the xmls to see if I can make it fit. Did you install clicker_hi.apk for the haptic feedback? Its working on mine.

Hi, there is a possibility the HTC IME Mod to the Galaxy Note to use? I can install the app though. But the resolution does not fit into the display so it is much too small.
exactly as the title says, i cant figure out how to switch to a different keyboard,
there's no option under the language and keyboard settings to actually select one of the other keyboard i have installed, any ideas??
I'm on cm7 also and only have one keyboard selection but I install swype beta and never looked back...do you want swype or the old sammy keyboard? Swype was pretty easy to install but I'm not sure about the old keyboard from froyo rom...idk if there is a work around to get it on cm7? You may be out off luck for that keyboard?

If selecting make sure it checked in language and keyboard settings and long press in any text box, choose input method and select the desired keyboard. thats how I did it

I've tried installing different roms and kernels to try and fix this issue, but the "w" on the portrait keyboard doesn't work - instead it presses "q" and "e".
Is there a way on fixing the keyboard?

I press the little cog and it takes me into "saumsung keypad settings" which has keyboard types, input language, xt9, keypad sweeping, character preview, auto-cap, handwriting settings, voice input, auto full stop and tutorial - but no reset?
Just the stock samsung keypad?
Ah yea the samsung one doesn't have a recalibrate option. I'm using the HTC keyboard, which has that option. Here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16368109#post16368109
When you're installed go to: settings>language and keyboard>HTC ime mod settings>text input...scroll to the bottom to calibration tool..
Hope it works!
Weird how you automatically thought he was using HTC_IME.
I installed that HTC keyboard - the W key on the keyboard still doesn't work - I think it may be to do with that location on the screen?
Paired with this, I can't add contacts to my phone :l I'm using Litening ROM v5 :S
Very odd, could be a faulty screen...may be something to do with the roms you've been flashing..they can make things go funny sometimes.
Can't help with the contacts issue, I've only used stock on this phone.
I think just take it to the shop (after you've flashed original rom of course, and got rid of the yellow triangle thing), and swap it for a new one.
Good luck.
