I purchased a Motorola TZ700 Roadster and paired it up with my Atrix. Pressed the Voice Dial button and it works.
Did it a few times and everything seems ok..
Then the Atrix screen goes blank (I have it set for two minutes)
If I hit the voice dial button on the roadster while the phone is 'asleep' the roadster beeps twice and I do not get a "say command" prompt.
If I unlock the phone and hit the roadsters voice dial it works.
Seems to only have a problem when the phone is asleep.
I then tried to play music over the roadster while the phone was asleep and it plays no problem.
Has anyone else come accross this? any solutions? Ideas?
Is this normal for a android phone?
Thanks,
Pete
Try freezing viingo. Worked for me.

Bluetooth voice dial
On my ATRIX and I believe all Android phones from Motorola if you have a password set bluetooth will not work to start voice command unless the phone is plugged in to a charger. I know my ATRIX will not start voice command unless I unlock the phone. Not good as I can't have a password and bluetooth voice dial, not happy.
hope this helps

Thanks for the replys.. Freezing vlingo didn't resolve it.
I'll guess I'll have to live with it and plug it in when I get in the car..
Appreciate the reply.. thought I was going nuts...

On the Atrix just having the screen off (no password set), bluetooth voice commands will not work. The funny thing is I can even hear the phone beaping but the headset does not beap back to take a voice command. Using all Plantronics headsets.
Does anyone have a headset that this does not happen and you can BT voice command with the screen off?
Bluetooth voice dial
I use a Motorola S605, EQ5, Finiti, Oasis and H15 they all work for voice commands with screen off. I did not have good luck with the S10-HD. Check your settings for bluetooth and I very strongly suggest you install MotoSpeak. In MotoSpeak under Settings Enable Voice Commands and Enable Listen. MotoSpeak is an amazing program!
Hope this helps,

I use a plantronics headset that works with voice dial as long as no pin/finger print security is enabled
There is a setting under "Security" that will enable voice dialing when the phone is locked

Is it possible to voice dial from our bluetooth headsets? I have a blueant z9i and i haven't figured out a way to easily do this... is it part of android even? Maybe this could be a reason to upgrade my earpiece.
I seriously cant be the only one here who has attempted to voicedial from a headset??? Its not working for me on my blueant z9i, but what is everyone elses experience attempting this?
I have not been able to voice dial from either one of my headsets. Both moto, neither handsfree or stereo headphones w/ mic.

Well, since nobody is answering your post, best I can do is tell you what mine does, different hardware though.
When I press on the earpiece button, my phone beeps once, and the voice command is activated. You say, example, "Call HOME", and the phone beeps twice, a menu comes up on the screen where you have to touch-select what you just said out of a selection of 3 to 5 items . Then it dials the number.
The feature is useless - since if I have to dig the phone out of my pocket to touch the screen after saying the command, I may as well as just dialed it with my finger to begin with... so you're not missing much.
Plus - if you drive a standard - letting go of the wheel, or giving up shifting to futz with your phone - is simply not an option in regular city stop n go traffic. Handsfree, with finger confirmation, lol. Got to wonder sometimes.

I'm a big fan of the voice command features, speech>SMS, email, search, etc...
Constantly pushing the "mic" button on my keypad and talking into the phone mic just isn't user friendly enough while driving.
I can't get anything other than voice dialing to work with a bluetooth headset.
My BT set is a cheapie, I'll gladly buy a new one providing this is the issue.
I don't care about it reading email or txt's back to me, I have to be able to say "txt/email so&so, blah blah blah" and have it do that via BT.
Anyone?
Thanks,
i dont think u can do all the voice commands on BT cuz i just got a pair of sony dr-bt101 and same thing
I agree with rptw I dont think its possible. I connect my phone to my car stereo via bluetooth and cannot use the voice commands it would be awesome if I could thou so hopefully someone has a solution.
Voice commands over bluetooth work with Vlingo.
Vlingo is the greatest app (imho) for the streak! I use it for everything!
It's available on the market
+1 Vlingo, works perfect
Been using VLINGO, it's awesome. Works fine on 1.8.1 too.
Vlingo has 1 fatal flaw
After using Vlingo once, if you move out of range of your phone, then Vlingo
will cause your phone to reboot.
See link below of this problem:

Vlingo is great, works fantastic, thanks for the tip.
However I've noticed that my headset doesn't stay active long enough to complete my task. EI: push the BT button, say "txt so&so", wait for Vlingo to respond -headset stops listening-
Push the button again, say content of the message, wait for "thinking" -headset stops listening-
Push the button again, say send...
Is this consistent with any other Vlingo users headsets?
Thanks.
Blueant Q1 or Q2 works well with streak on voice commands
Anybody have any hints for using voice recognition with a headset? It knows I'm trying to talk to it, but it doesn't seem to know what I'm saying so it keeps telling me to try again instead of dialing.
I've been experimenting and if I use the Voice Search application on the phone everything appears to work except that somehow sound coming and going is completely cut off.
Voice Dialer doesn't work with the headset or without.
I can use Voice Search to place the call and then turn on my headset and switch over, but I get an error on the screen that the communication app has failed. The error being on screen doesn't interfere with the call though.
Odd effect is that the volume control buttons got stuck on bluetooth in-call volume. I had to restart the phone to clear it.
I assume you are referring to voice dialing from a bluetooth headset. As far as I can tell from reading the forums it never worked but has been fixed in the new 351 update (Android 2.2.2). It didnt work for me on the 318 build but now does on the 351 build. I dont believe voice search works from a bluetooth headset though as far as I know.

i use cyberon voice speed dial, it works but u have to shout loud the names
tried with different bt headsets
I have a Motorola Roadster bluetooth car speaker.
It works fine for incoming calls and plays music over FM.
Can I setup things so I can make hands free outgoing calls,
just push a button on the Roadster and say call home, etc ?
Seems to work at times but once the Note's screen locks, it stops working...
I've noticed the same problem with my Jawbone ERA. Actually, the ERA keeps disconnecting and later reconnecting itself while in use. It doesn't do that with any of my other devices. :/
But as for your problem...if you charge your phone while it's in the car, and set the Note to open Voice Talk when a Bluetooth device is detected, as soon as you turn on your Bluetooth, VT will stay open and give you instant access to a variety of voice commands. If you enable driving mode, it will read incoming messages to you, and then allow you to reply hands-free. You can also make outgoing calls. If you want, you can also enable a mode so that it will listen for a keyword and you don't have to press a button at all, but that would add to the battery drain a bit.
I know that's not what you wanted necessarily, I'd also like the same thing...mostly so I can keep the phone in my pocket and operate it remotely via headset. But I have yet to get that to work reliably.
EDIT: Okay, I just did some testing and actually fixed my ERA's disconnection issue by doing a factory reset. But the phone WILL NOT take voice commands when the screen is off, or when it is at the lock screen. And for some odd reason, if I have Voice Talk open and I press the button on my headset, it beeps and the phone closes Voice Talk. Every time. If Voice Talk isn't open, when I press the button on my headset it opens Voice Talk and responds to my commands as it should. Very strange.
Thanks for the reply.
Does yours work with a Pin lock?
When I have a pin protected lock screen,
Voice Talk works with the Roadster button but only when the Note is unlocked.
Once the lock screen times on
it does not detect the voice command button press on the Roadster.
If I remove the pin on the lock screen it works all the time but my phone is unprotected.
I'd like the voice button on the Roadster to work even when the pin lock is used and active, does yours?
Oh! I didn't even think of that...I do have the PIN lock activated. You are correct, it works just like it should when there is no PIN code on the device. I suppose it's by design, but it sure would be nice if they had an exception one could enable for voice input. Well at least I know now, haha.
I am trying to use the voice command feature w/my Galaxy S4 w/4.4.2 (KitKat, NK1).
Voyager and Edge headsets have a feature where a 2 second press on the Mute button when not in a call will launch Voice Search on the phone so you can use voice commands from the headset (e.g., "Call xyx on mobile") to make calls.
While connected to my phone but not in a call I press the Mute button for two seconds. I hear a brief low tone (from the headset) and then nothing - I never hear the Google Voice search tone/prompt coming from the phone through the headset.
Everything is configured properly as far as I can tell:
1. Audio over Bluetooth and requests over Bluetooth are enabled in Google Search.
2. Bluetooth commands are enabled in S4 settings when the phone screen is locked.
3. Phone is connected via BT to headset.
4. Legend has been granted access to contacts and call history. (Not sure this even matters for this issue.)
5. Firmware has been updated on the Legend to the latest and rebooted the headset and unpaired and paired it again.
I tried disabling S Voice (I never use it, but went ahead and turned it off) and that didn't help.
FWIW, I get the same results with the Edge headset as well. (Also updated to current firmware.) Since both fail I'm thinking that this is a Samsung issue.
Help! Any known work-around to get this to work. This makes the headset useless to make calls w/the phone in my pocket - I have to take my phone out, wake it up, enter my pin, and hit Home to go to the Google voice search prompt and then talk via the headset. Not exactly convenient.
Help! (And thanks!)
Holy Buttons, Batman. Figured it out.
<gulp> Operator error.
Was hitting the wrong button. Call button for 2 secs, not mute/voice command button.
Crawling back under my rock now.
