I really don't like the TouchWiz one (mostly due to the fact that it requires you to manually focus and how it doesn't rotate along with the phone). Is there any way that a vanilla android camera app could be used?
You can pull the camera from my Loki rom in the dev section if you like. I'm not at my pc or id post a link for ya. Its the i9000 camera software with additional mods, originally posted by Eugene373 in his GingerClone or Macnut roms, can't remember which off the top of my head. Works much better than the TW camera ever did.

Would it be possible to get android in it's most purest form. Like the ones you see on Nexus phones and Google phones?
No touch-wiz, Samsung bloatware etc etc...
Just plain android as google made it.
CyanogenMod 7?
have you not heard of AOSP and Cyanogenmod?
I was about to post something similar.
I'm looking with a pure android rom too with the stability and performance of a stock rom, if not better ...
I was looking for the same thing a few months ago.
I don't like cyanogen mod as they add a few things to the menus and applications (and at the time it was only in alpha for GSII) ... I was after a completely stock AOSP rom without any changes.
Then I can across oxygen rom which I use now, it's very stable and is 99% AOSP, there's a few extras but they are hidden in the settings menu, so you wouldn't know it wasn't stock AOSP unless u saw the boot animation or new the AOSP settings menu off by heat.
http://forum.oxygen.im/
Highly recommend it unless anyone else knows of a better 100% AOSP stock rom.

You just need to look in the development forums.

Cm7 is asop with stuff you would want anyway added.
For example sd card support, oc/uv etc.
Building a aosp rom would mean taking cm7 and removing useful features, you can just take cm7 and make it looks like asop, theres apks for the stock launcher, and themes are not hard to find.
Just remove apks for the dsp etc.

CM7 is not stable on the S2. I get lockups and freezes everytime I'm in the app drawer.

+1 this. Thanks, after seeing the ICS event, it made me want stock Android again. Can't wait for the source to drop and all our phones get some ICS love.
And a pure aosp rom would have similar problems at first, building a rom without opensource drivers is really hard!

I've linked him to 2 AOSP ROMs already.
I have been cooking ROM's for quite some time now but am not much of a thread creator.
The cooks on this forum are fantastic and i have learnt a lot from them, but I prefer the Samsung ROM to stay as close to stock as possible.
Ideally, the choice to theme the ROM, add AOSP apps or even remove ringtones should rest with the user and this preference changes from person to person.
Also, excessive removal of system files whose functions are not fully understood can lead to further instability in the already pre-release ICS ROMs.
I have made myself a base ROM with just essential system tweaks and removal of hubs and apps easily downloadable from the market if needed. eg. talkback, google plus etc.
I also have CWM packages for individual needs like adding AOSP keyboard, gallery etc.
If anyone has similar needs, i would be glad to share this ROM and the update packages. It has been very stable especially since the LPB release.
Will develop this thread if i see this ROM useful to others.
EDIT: Published it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22209188
Is your ROM deodexed? I'd be happy to flash it if you could provide more details.

It is deodexed, zipaligned, rooted etc.
Has some basic tweaks like GPS quick fix, proximity sensor tweaks, battery and performance tweaks etc. Mostly standard stuff most ROMS will have.
Also fixed the data APN issue on LPB.
Post it up in the Development thread.

Yes I would be interested to try. I am just using stock but with crt off and a different systemui.apk for a ics themed status bar.
fix proxy settings, static ip saving. Since in LPB and maybe in previous leaks its not working, im coming from CM9 and this is the only thing preventing me from using this daily.
My work uses a proxy server and after i enter them and press save and go back to check it defaults to none.
Probably can be fixed easily as it works in CM9 since the first leak.
Cm9 has stock ui but it's hw codecs are messed up

hi guys, this is my first time so lets go easy on me?
anyways..
i recently updated my phone to ics after much anticipation i was kinda bummed to see that the camera had not changed
ie. the camera app remained the same as it had been and did not resemble to camera app shown on the whats new on ics page (under: Rich and versatile camera capabilities)
is this just a "sense" thing or is there a way for me to be able to change my camera app ?
consider (or dont, if you prefer not to) my proverbial cherry popped!
thanks in advance
If you flash CapRomCE... Chrispaw used a different camera.apk in it if I remember right. Try it out. Dev section. The ROM is SOLID as well

well that software (sense) + ics integration to take better pictures no?
There is the HQ camera mod in the themes and apps forum that has a better different camera, but you have to be deodexed to use it.
the action shot feature of the stock samsung camera app is pretty cool. I'd like to be able to get the same functionality out of the aokp rom, which doesn't have samsung's camera app.
from what i've read, it doesnt seem like anybody can just install the stock camera apk becuase it uses some stuff from touchwiz.
anyone know of a stand alone app that has the same functionality?
Hi, just recently switched over to android after being an iphone user since 2007. So bare with me as I am learning the lingo and software. The hardware of the HTC one made me cheat. So here I am.
So.... This has been a very different experience from jailbreaks on iphone. So as of now I cannot really get the lock screen the way I'd like. The sense lock screen is not customizable like the stock android lock screen. And I have tried apps such as widget locker and then tried adding things on such as dash clock but things aren't smooth and some apps just don't work well together. Not all the functionality of dash clock will work within widget locker. And widget locker will show the default lock screen whenever I get a phone call....kind of defeats the purpose of having the app in the first place....
I tried the Cyanogen 10.1 rom but found I missed certain aspects of sense 5.... I like blink feed and the way the phone from sense is integrated. Android's stock phone app is bland and not that well integrated and intuitive IMO... Also the beats audio and zoe and camera features that made the camera and speakers great was missing... lets just say those tweaks make a huge difference in camera quality and audio quality that I could not replace with any apps.
So right now I'm currently rooted on Trickdroid version 7.5.0 with JB 4.2.2 and sense 5 on my htc one from AT&T. I flashed the tweaks package that came with the rom and installed the asop JB lock screen hoping I could add widgets to it and customize it the way I want. Unfortunately It won't let me do that with the ASOP lock screen either....I'm not sure why they added it with the rom if it doesn't do what it's supposed to? The tweak package itself is also having a weird bug that causes the status bar to have two clocks.
Anyhow I guess my question is..... is there a better way of customizing my lock screen or is there another rom that would suite my needs? And how would one go about uninstalling a particular tweak package?
Thank you in advance
No one?
I'd like to report the bug to the developers but I haven't posted up enough replies.
Any suggestions on a better rom? One with stock android but still retains the betas audio and htc camera tweaks?
You're gonna have to wait until the GE one drops for the stock with beats and camera. As for the lockscreen, you're not getting much mod wise. Also you can't just delete a tweak you flashed, you have to restore a nandroid you (should have) made in recovery.

The best piece of advice anyone on this (or any other) forum can possibly give you:
If you're going to be toying with the phone in the manner in which we do here, please please please make a nandroid backup. I'm asking for your own sake and ours. It's the best way to revert to a previous state your phone was in if you have any troubles.

Thanks for the response. I was afraid I'd have to wait. Do you think the GE rom will be available right away to non GE HTC ones or would we have to wait for a developer to mod it for use for us?
Hopefully we can just flash it as an ruu. When someone gets a leak or someone makes a system dump it should be flashable. If not it'll take a little moding which shouldn't take too long for a dev to do.
