Next week ice cream sandwich is coming. We will be able to install it on the Legend
without waiting HTC to release it for the Legend ?
How long will take to Cyanogen mod to release ice cream sandwich version?
Htc wont release it for legend, but as for cyanogen, I think as soon as the source for ics is avalible.

Yes but ICS will be compatible for all devices without the necessary manufacture mod for each device.
So we will be able to flash the original rom from Google?
But isn't it just for dual-core devices?

So you mean that Google will release ICS supporting all those (roughly estimated) 400 completely different platforms and a huge load of even more devices?
I absolutely doubt that.
I think google's meaning about this words, is for all the device after they release ics4.0

You never know, they may have a hyper visor and have worked on the most popular chipsets to allow this to happen Wishful thinking though

Actually they already developed that and called it "Dalvik" . It's what makes running the same app on completely different devices possible.
Still, for a hyper-visor to work you need a hardware abstraction layer and that brings us back to the problem I mentioned above.
The legend with the pass of the time are old... and I think that Ice Cream Dont Works fine in Legend... unless the legend stay overclocked...
Its My Opinion ^^
but you dont have to destroy our dreams
the legend is a grandpa,no doubt, but it WOULD be nice to even try to bring it to life. and thats the real deal, huh
(otherwise i´ve to save some money for a new phone,..grr)

I bet ice cream will barely run 'normal' on the desire, and that is a 1ghz phone, so where do we stand with our max clocked 806mhz?
I rather see more 2.3 roms with better looks and tweaks etc. then a 4.0 rom
But hey that just my opinion
I actually think 4.0 will run smoother then 2.3 due to the hardware acceleration, I think we have enough of gpu power.. I don't see why it shouldn't work
Google's statement:
If a phone runs 2.3, it will also be able to run 4.0
If only there would be a dev that is up to the job. That's the problem.
Also, if you're considering that everyone who had the Legend from day 1, their 2 year contracts are almost over and I think they would like a new phone as well ^^
There is no phone right now like our old legend. Compact, well built, everything that big ones have, legend has. Desire has the same GPU even.. Legend 2 would be nice..
I doubt they would do that
It's all about bigger screens nowadays (not a bad thing imo) but I have to admit, the Legend has a design that no other phone can compare with. I loved it when I had it in the old days!

Here in Canada, the only North American country who sold the Legend, we have 3 year contracts maximum (minimum, rather). Not saying I have one, but it's probably going to be a crappy feeling when everyone else abandons and you're stuck alone.

I Agree very strongly, my choice in the legend, was about the size, I upgraded from a Sony-Ericsson W595 so size was similar...
My wife got the DHD just after me, and it's TOOOOOOO big, not comfortable in my pocket at all.
If I had to choose a new phone to replace the Legend, it would currently have to be the HTC Rhyme, ok, its a bit bigger then the legend, but it is still smaller then the DHD, and its got some nice specs on it. Only problem is, I believe the Rhyme is only available on the optus network :-(
My 1c worth
does our sga is capeble of getting the android 4.0 ice cream sadwich update or we have to be happy with gingerbred only???????????
Just wait for cm8.
We'd be the last family of devices to get ICS TBH if ever
I believe it has the chance of getting ICS but definetly not from Samsung. SGA has a very large amount of users and skillful developers who could make it happen.
We may have to be patient though.. Even Nexus S, which has the official support from Google, hasn't even recieved the upgrade yet. CMIIW.

Yeah.. Lame old marketing tactics lol.
By the way, I've seen some leaked videos of Prime and S running ICS and from there I could understand that even S wont have the exact same version of ICS the Prime will have... Well at least for the GUI.

couldnt agree more
If I had to choose I'd rather have a completely stable and optimized Gingerbread instead of an ICS. Stable meaning every feature working the way it should, like my wifi actually reconnecting after sleep.
The main advantages on ICS are:
1) dual core support and hardware accelerating
2) New UI.
Because neither of those are relevant to Galaxy Ace, I'm fine with Gingerbread.
But XDA developers are really fast and they will port ICS even if Samsung wouldn't.
but i have heard taht the update will be for 1 yr old devices i think galaxy ace is 1 yr old only...so we can get

Yeah maybe for some high-end devices that is..
And really, I wouldnt expect much from Samsung in the term of firmware updates.
Maybe we could just put our hope on a new ICS-based CM instead

Yup there's a new agreement for companies to provide software updates till the 1 year or so is up. We're probably getting it but of course they will prioritize.
New version of OS is one of marketing tricks to lure people into buying new phones, I'm quite sure that we won't see ICS stock from Samsung, but nevermind, we have great developers, so just wait for CM 8 an' see

It'd really be pointless though. ICS is a much more optimised version of HC which should bring full SMP support through software, something that has gone begging for quite a while to take advantage of phones like the S2. Maybe they are adding GPU rendering as well. Another useless perk for the Ace as the GPU is ****.
Also, why bother porting ICS to ARMv6? It's a complete waste of resources when it's almost likely to provide little to no benefit.
My opinion at least. Don't get your hopes up for ICS/ICS-based CM8.
I know (SGA even don't have flash) but at least they'll take some interface tweaks and eyecandies

ORIGINAL SOURCE CAN BE READ HERE : http://www.rethink-wireless.com/2012/03/08/verizon-announces-ice-cream-sandwich-update-12-devices.htm
Any Verizon customers wondering when they can expect to get the update to Android 4.0 on their handset or tablet has a little more to go on as of this week as the carrier has released a list of fourteen devices which will receive Ice Cream Sandwich. While it reveals what will be getting the latest version of Android it doesn't go into the more crucial detail of when.
Handsets set to get the upgrade include; HTC's ThunderBolt, Droid Incredible 2, Rhyme and Rezound, Motorola's Bionic, Razr, Razr Maxx and Droid 4 and LG's Spectrum. Among the tablets getting the upgrade are Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and 10.1 and Motorola's Xoom and Xyboards.
The fact the Droid devices make the list isn't surprising as Motorola had already said so in its own announcement. If it's anything to go by then it means anyone eager to receive the update could face waiting up to Q3 this year to get it on their handset.
In addition to refining the Android UI with common actions made more visible, more intuitive gestures and other features such as Android Beam and Face Unlock the new OS works across both tablets and smartphones. This avoids the divergence of the two branches of the Android that was seen when the tablet-friendly 3.0 was released.
Verizon promises to update the list as more information becomes available "throughout the year". This doesn't exactly suggest that the update is going to be available soon and may encourage Android loving customers to look elsewhere for their Ice Cream Sandwich thrills. If they stick with Verizon this mainly means opting for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which was released in December and comes with the OS pre-installed.

It seems to be overlooked by EVERYONE, but all of the articles i've read say that the Jellybean 5.0 OS will be tablet based ONLY. Not for phones... much like the Honeycomb OS. Correct me if im wrong
That would be absolutely retarded. They just brought them together under ICS and then break them apart again with JB?

Has anyone seen the new HTC One V? Its a low level phone running an S2 Snapdragon at 1GHz and only 512MB RAM and it gets Sense 4.0!
Yet all along HTC was telling people that only their newest top end phones has the horsepower to run Sense 4.0. They've said that Sense 4.0 would only be available on S4 Snapdragons or Tegra3 phones.
I hope some of the devs can get their hands on the ROM from that HTC One V and extract the Sense 4.0 stuff from it. Surely if it runs smoothly on that old hardware it'll run great on our Rezounds.

This has been known for a while, the problem is that the One V doesn't have a 720p screen. The One XL is about the only One series phone with a ROM that can be ported for use on the Rezound.

Nvm edit 3: it does have sense 4.0 video included here http://androidandme.com/2012/04/smartphones-2/htc-one-v-video-shows-off-unboxing-and-benchmark-scores/
Powerful hardware has nothing to do with Sense 4.0
They said they were trimming a lot of the fat out of Sense 4.0, which actually makes sense to run 4.0 on a lightweight phone instead of 3.6.
They're only gonna have Sense 4 on their new phones, because they want those to sell more, its a good selling point. Sucks for us, but nice little strategy by HTC, make the best ui they've ever made, and only make it available on brand new phones, meanwhile letting all their old high end phones stick with their "well this is good enough, I guess" software.
Sent from my ICS HTC Rezound
Sense is sense in my book.
Htc never said it will only be released on s4 and tegra devices, they said it will be released on the new one series devices as a selling point which makes sense(no pun intended). The one v also has a dumbed down version of sense 4, not the full version the one s/x get.
Like I've said before and others, Sense 4 is strictly a selling point for the One series.
Of course it'll run fine on our phones but that's not HTC's intention, at least right now.
According to the verge, sense 4 from the one v has been ported to other devices. So I guess the one v has sense 4.

Anyone else feel frustrated as hell that HTC not only drags their feet on OTA upgrades, but never includes the latest Sense version? Like the Rezound for example, we will get upgraded to ICS, but the Sense stays at 3.6, mean while the new One series debuts with Sense 4.0 which the Rezound should easily run.

Do we? We currently have a hack that is pretty unstable and has a long way to go. (no offense to the devs that have put in a lot of great work) It will come eventually (hopefully sooner as I can't wait to put it on my rezound) but there is nothing like a company produced product (especially after tweaking) that comes from a development organization with all of the source code and knowledge in house. (Let's also not forget the system test group that beats it up for months before release)

maybe the newest update, but I ran the previous one and even setting everything up the way he instructed, I had to pull down the status bar to and back to get any click on the screen to register.
I appreciate what he is doing, but its still a frankenstein port of 3 different phones which usually means there will be some bugs.
Not that I care that much about sense 4, we won't get it because they have said its only for the new phones going forward. Its a business decision.
HTC has never updated Sense on there phones to a new version. Meaning if your phone has Sense 1.0 they would go 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc but you wouldn't see 2.0 on that device.
This is how HTC has always worked so not sure why people are still surprised by it.

JellyBean was ported form the Nexus Devices that were given out at I/O, is there a chance that a developer will port this to the maxx and og razr?
oh. my. god. i am going to have to switch to iPhone or go mad.
someone or some people will be allready on it and why not if tyhe source code is out
ICS is nice but i get the feeling its gonna be Androids Vista people might just skip for Jellybean
Some of us my friend still don't have ICS....let alone JB
Sources not available yet... But i think that changes only affects android platform and not kernel. All HW accel was done in 4.0, so 4.1 should only optimize android itself (dalvik, gui underlying libraries, etc).
Nexus and RAZR share same CPU (OMAP4430/4460 - the only difference is CPU freq, so technically we can use libs from nexus without any problem and without recompilation since libraries already optimized for or CPU), same GPU (PVR SGX 540, however nexus's GPU is slightly overclocked) - so H/W accel should not be a problem
So there is a good change that someone will port 4.1 to our devices. Or maybe i'm just wrong
I just played w my buds verizon nexus on the team vicious jelly bean and it is nice! Smooth. Siri like voice assistant that really does a lot. I didn't expect it to be such a large update. I like and of course am hoping to get it on the RAZR soon but as it is ics is very very nice

That sounds like an excellent strategy, because as we all know, hearing about a new OS makes our phones turn from great to absolutely unusable piles of junk. And, I want to help. I'll offer you FIVE DOLLARS for your Razr. SIX dollars if it's a Maxx. AND, I'll throw in an additional quarter if it has a 32gb or larger memory card. You can put this money towards a new iPhone 4s!
WOW, it feels great helping people! Yay me!
I'm going to wait a little while long for the OTA for ICS in Canada (rogers), but i'm getting tired of waiting!!! lol for my first android phone, was expecting a little more, but... after a "little while" i'm going to figure out how to push a image of ICS lol

Seriously, just because JB has been announced, doesn't make ICS any less awesome. It flies on the Razr, I love it (leaked .211). It seems like now people are starting to get the attitude that just because JB is going to be released soon, makes ICS ancient and unworthy for their device. I've seen people across this, and other forums, talking about selling their phones to get one that JB will be released to at some point. Unless you get a pure Google phone, like the Nexus, you won't be getting an upgrade to JB anytime soon. All manufacturers operate in the same mindset. Ventures that make them money is priority one, followed by other things, then other things, and then upgrading to the latest and greatest for existing devices sits kind of low. If the kernel source turns out to be an ICS based kernel, I'm sure that one of the devs will be cranking out a version for us to flash in SS 2.0.
From the sounds of it we should at least get some sort of port. One thing that concerns me is how the performance boost will affect battery. The whole 60fps thing would surely eat through any power source. My bro has a gnex so I'll see soon enough.

Let's try to keep some perspective... this fall, it's released, then the manufacturers and carriers go through the process to make it work on their own hardware, and it gets pushed in Q1 or Q2 of 2013.
This is not an impending thing.
Do I have too much faith in da devs then? My old device was a desire z and got ics ported to it about 6 weeks after release. The RAZR is much close in hardware to the gnex and ics is much closer in code to jb. I'm not putting money on it but I am hopeful.

LOOK AT moto with ICS and not only them but every other manufacturer ICS was released over a year ago and now its finally being pushed out to the razr barely. So when JB gets pushed out to the razr and thats a big if I would just hold my breath for about a year or more.
