[Q] Rooting Troubles - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed a new 2.1 Global Generic FW on my X10i.
I have z4Root both the 1.1 version and the newer 1.3 version.
Each time I try to root, it will do it, self reset, but afterwards busybox and Titanium Backup don't work and say it's not rooted.
I tried to use the x10 Flash and it also said it would be rooted after a reboot. But the same thing happens, nothing seems to work and it says the cell isn't rooted.
Any suggestions?
I am on FW 2.1 update 1 with a baseband of 2.0.49 and build number 2.0.2.A.0.24

Look for superoneclick that works perfectly.. Think it's on the dev thread.
Edit.. It's a sticky in the general section.

Cool, that worked out just fine. Didn't realize it was something special about that particular FW.
Here's the link provided if anyone else needs it.

[Q] Baseband?

Hi guys..
im still on baseband 2.0.46, i saw the new FreeX10 beta4 was fixed to run on .54 or something?
how do you update the baseband when using a custom rom? do you have to revert back to the official rom or can i update using a custom one?
Not 100% sure but i think we have to flash se dualtouch rom, then root and do the whole install thing again unfortunately. Imma do this later unless someone has an easier way.

hmm, okay then, i guess it would kind of make sense..
thanks
Yesterday while a number of people were debating which route to go, I did it the long way. I had spare time early yesterday morning so I decided to give it a try. Made a backup of my beta 3 in xrecovery, flashed to the generic 2.1.54 baseband, rooted it, installed xrecovery then installed beta4 + gapps. Everything is working fine for me but you don't have to go that route. Others have found a shorter way. If you're on Zs 2.2 beta 3 already, try this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=3904
Credit goes to KULANV for that post. Also if you got time to spare, read pages 380 onwards, quite a few people have tried that and other similar instructions.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Steve.Adams baseband update

I have no problem with using the flashtool, downloading the sin file, etc. But the step that says DO NOT let it boot and immediately go into xrecovery is what worries me. I love trying all the new ROMs, but am still always go back to a custom 2.1 because of the cam/videocam, plus no stereo bluetooth dropouts.
My question is, after I do this to update the baseband and flash 2.2 Beta 4 via xrecovery. Can I go back to my old custom 2.1 with older baseband via xrecovery and then switch back and forth via xrecovery afterward? I just don't feel like flashing the entire firmware, rooting, adding JIT v2, then removing all of the SE apps AGAIN for like the 10th time.
u can install any rom on .435 firmware..
u cant install beta 4 on any lower firmware(.24,etc)..
so update to .435 and stay..
happy flashing

Im not entirely sure thats true because it seemed that those with the newer baseband seemed to be having issues with other roms prior to z's beta 4... can someone confirm?

its mentioned clearly in z's post about using the latest base band. as for Steve's recommendation of not letting it boot, i guess i must have missed it when i upgraded the base band while on 2.1 customised, but the only worst thing that happened was i didn't got any signal on my phone, everything else worked fine, it didn't mattered coz i was to install free x10 v4. and its a fine job done by z. the ROM is great. add green glow theme on it, and nothing's like it.
about xrecovery backup able to change your base band back with restore, i haven't tried it myself, i guess xrecovery devs will be the best guys to check if you're not sure.

[Q] Does it matter whether you have superuser or busybox?

I have a x10a and have xrecovery .03 and the newest superuser from the market but not the paid version. Will that have any effect on xrecovery using that instead of busybox? so far after updating to the 2.1.A.0.435 build i've rooted it with the flashtool and used that to install xrecovery ,clean, and optimize my phone no problem. but i want to make sure it wont have any negative effect before i flash a newer rom onto it. Im pretty new to all this so any other tips such as which is your preferred rom or most stable for current situation.thanks for any help

Don't matter at all.
that's not entirely correct, many root apps like titanium backup require busybox to function... I would say to definitely install busybox and superuser so you can adjust permissions, otherwise there are many root programs you can't use
thanks i installed the latest busybox and titanium backup pro. quick question though. since i just backed up everything with TBP would i need to make a backup through xrecovery before flashing? or what? and also what is your opinion on the best new rom to use on a x10 with the 2.1.A.0.435 build? thanks for all replies! =]
yes titanium only backs up apps s that you can put everything back on when you flash a new rom, xrecovery takes an image of how your phone is before you flash a new rom, in case you either have problems and have to go back, or in case you just don't like it.
I think the best rom personally is freex10 beta 4...
Are you already on baseband .54? You can check in settings> about>....
yes my phone settings are on the top post. thanks for the tip! guess i'll give that rom a spin and see how it is. this community is great it saved me from regretting choosing this phone knowing the arc comes out 3 months after i buy this one lol.
The arc isn't much better, it is basically the same phone repackaged...
Save your hard earned dollar for a real upgrade. I did basically the same thing, but I don't regret it one bit. The x10 is an awesome phone, but my next phone will be a bigger step up than the arc, neo or play that's for sure.
Yea I'm thinking the atrix once it's been out on the market for a bit. Successfully installed freex10beta4 no problem. Runs great. Love my X10 now =]. Thanks for everyone's help.

AT&T X10a update 2.1.A.0.492 baseband 2.1.65 came out last week.
If you are rooted, use the app Titanium Backup to backup apps and data. The Pro version is worth it.
After the update you will lose root, JIT, and xRecovery. Use the Flash Tool 0.2.9.1 to root, enable JIT, and re-install xRecovery.

Regardless, same answers. However, those of us who have already updated know the baseband is 2.1.65. The screen shot must not be the final version. Version numbers don't go backwards.

[Q] Xrecovery backup

found a few semi-related threads in other forums but i want x10 users advice.
im in canada on rogers network and i updated my phone to one of wolfbreaks first gingerbreads. works well but i want the rogers specific firmware and they have apparently released it.
SO .. i have flashed 2.1.71 and the new kernel which i think will screw me up if i try to just plug in pc companion or seus, so, i want to restore my backup from 2.1 (i kept a stock optimized one just in case i ever f**d my phone up) ... will restoring this backup put my baseband and kernel back? or do i have to flash them seperatly?
what should i do?

Firstly using the new baseband and kernel would not screw you over when you are using SEUS to downgrade.
And I would recommend you to just stay on Wolf's rom, stock(untweaked) roms would give you performance that is nowhere near customised roms.
