Yes, if you make a backup before..

not have back up

it's not good. then it is better to keep all the required using the Titanium backup for example (contacts, messages, apps etc), reflash your firmware, then restore apps & data by TB.

Switching between ROMS backup- Noob Question

So I have a custom ROM uploaded on my x10 but I see some others I would like to try. I have Titanium Backup but I am having trouble with it. When I switch the the new ROM will it keep all my apps or will it just keep the .apk so I can install them all again? I have a lot of apps so if there is a way it will keep them all installed as well as contacts that would be awesome. Any help would be awesome, thanks!
Use xrecovery to backup and restore and everything will stay the same.
I just tried that and noticed it leaves it just where i left off, awesome but now I am wondering if I install a new ROM will all my apps/data still be installed?
They will be wiped... but when you reflash your backup, they will be back...

I assume what you want to do is flash a different ROM then re-install all your apps + data within that new ROM?? Titanium will easily allow you to do this, just click menu>batch>backup all user apps + system data. That will allow you to restore all your apps and data by running the batch restore after booting in the new ROM. Once you do that and verify your apps are working etc, I recommend backing up with xrecovery because that makes switching between ROMs a lot easier.
Hopefully that helps you out.

Be cautious though some apps will crash when restored from one Rom to another to be sure restore one at time, or just install the app I used my back up root free from market

[Q] Is there any ways to backup a Custom ROM and all the settings in it?

Hell All,
Sorry if this is a noob question and someone had asked already. ( I tried to do a search but was unable to find the answer)
I recently discovered the joy of using custom ROMS and I want to try them all. But unfortunately one of the things is that whenever I flash a new ROM, I have to re do all the settings, which takes a lot of time.
I was wondering if there are any ways to back up a custom ROM settings so I can try out different custom ROMs, and if I decide to go back to the old one, I can just use that backup and have everything restored back to my saved old custom ROM settings.
Thanks
Use xrecovery to make a backup

You may use Titanium Backup Pro, however you can't restore system apps such as system settings between ROMs because this will cause force close loops like "process a.core in Android has stopped" hence leaving your phone unuseable because these fc will not stop.
However if you go from one cm base to another, or something like that sometimes it will work no problems. But you can always nandroid and try it out

Yes.... Titanium or mybackup can be used to backup apps+data. For entire custom rom configuration backup you gotta use xrecovery.

you just solved my headache!! I was unable to figure out, for the life of me, why after flashing the white cookie ROM I kept getting "process a.core in Android" FC. That problem has plagued me to the point where I was about to go crazy! Thanks for the advice!

This is going to make my life a lot easier So I just do a xrecovery backup on the current custom ROM I have, and I can try out new ROMS. if I ultimately decide to go back to the xrecovery backed up ROM, then all I have to do is reinstall that ROM and do a xrecovery restore? and everything will just be like if I have not changed a custom ROM at all?
** I noticed that there is only one "backup" option in xrecovery, so that option alone is going to back up my entire ROM configuration and apps and system data? Or for apps and system data I have to use TB?
Thanks all, for the help! I really appreciate it!! You guys are life savers!

That one single "backup " is one man army! It does all.... If you do a backup via xrecovery then tb is not required. However, its a good practice to keep apps backed up in tb ib case xrecovery fails! Since sometimes faulty backup can't be restored and we get this "md5 failed".
Now, to restore a backup you don't need to flash the old rom again. Just perform a data wipe in xrecovery and restore

Try with Titanium Backup....here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=it
PRESS TNX BUTTON IF I HELP YOU :good:
Yeah use Titanium Back Up as mentioned in the post above.
Once u open TB, on the top right of the screen u will see a tick within a box. Click on this. It will open Batch Backup/Restore options.
Click on Backup all user apps before flashing a new ROM.
once u have flashed a new rom, click on Restore missing apps with data.
Titanium backup
Ultimate Backup
App2Zip - You choose the apps you want and it puts them in a flashable zip on your SD card or internal storage. When you install your new ROM, just install the flashable zip and you have your apps back. Only thing is, it doesn't save the app data with it
AppExtractor - You can extract and install apps AND/OR app data from CWM recovery backups. You can also restore WiFi info, Bluetooth settings, contacts n I think a couple of other things.
All in the market.

As far as I know, cwm backs up both user apps and system apps with their data so if u restore it from there, the old sytem apps and data might conflict with the new one...so I would advise against it.
Use cwm and completely restore ur old Rom, make a backup usng tb and then flash ur new Rom... Safest way!

You can simply backup your apps and data via TB and
After installing a new ROM just restore APP+DATA via TB... best way to sort and backup and restore apps individually

On some clockworkmod versions you can do an advanced restore and just choose data. Never tried it but maybe give it a shot

Not recommendable....if your phone is on different ROM before backup, restoring the backup data into different ROM will make your phone bootloop (really bad cases) or lost statusbar/setting and etc (light cases)....
since he already make a backup then TB is the best choices...

You Think????
FYI : Backup from CWM contains the whole pack of the previous ROM....when you choose to restore data only, it restore all data including User Apps Data and System Apps Data....when System Apps Data is restore into a different ROM, you bet it going to make your phone into bootloop....
you are welcome to try it if you don't believe me....

I was talking about the selective backup of nandroid backup from TB. Ofc in a CWM data restore all apps(system+user) get restored. Im well aware of that and I wont be trying that
Anyways i think this tool is the best option right now. So thanks iOneX for the info :good:
A bit late I guess..
Well, I come here six months later, but Google brought me here...
I guess you're already using Online Nandroid Backup combined with Nandroid Manager. Just two days ago I restored user apps+data with Nandroid Manager from a backup created through Online Nandroid Backup. Both apps from H3r3t1c are really useful, specially working together.
Aside of this advice (surely already not needed) I was looking after a script to restore those user apps+data from a backup. I wanna include that script in my list of zips-to-flash in ZipInstaller
I'd appreciate any help. Cheers.

Indeed, just click on 'Back up' to back up your apps and their data, but only on your own user apps, never system apps. After flashing, install TB from the Play Store and click 'Restore'.

There is no need to backup your contacts, they are automatically backed up by your google account. As soon as you sign in on your new rom it will sync your contacts for you.
If you want to backup your apps you should just use the batch icon in top right and then choose the section for backup of user apps and it will backup your apps and appdata.
On your new simply re-install TB and then use restore option. If it doesnt find your backup location/show backups in batch you will need to go to preferences and choose backup folder location again.
To do all this silently (not click install on each app) you will need to be rooted and have pro version.
PS. This is not a galaxy s2 topic. These types of topics belong in the general/android section as its not device specific.

backup & restore
...there are several ways to do that..
apps
- through tb..normal backup->restore..update.zip...your choice..
- or any other b&r app
contacts
- sync via google
- import/export trough app (.vcf vcard)
- through tb..backup&restore Contacts data then reboot
[Kontakte 4.1.2-eng.root...]
& optional , cause i don´t know atm if needed..[Kontakte-Speicher 4.1.2-eng.root...]
cwm-backup to be save
yes..at the new rom you will have to install tb first in order to use it.
dowload the apk from authors website to your external sdcard
.u could do.
dowload titanium-backup-apk to your phone..
sync your contacts with google..batch-backup all inc sys apps+data..
make a cwm-backup..copy cwm & titanium backup folders to a safe place..
do your rom-update
do the appropriate settings and install tb..restore what you need and have fun :victory:
Or if you've bought titanium backup you could restore it from store after installation
leap before you think
Allright thanks everybody, it worked
