Updated MyBackup App(s) for Gingerbread (2.3) - Droid Eris General

Just wanted to bring it to anyone's attention currently or wanting to run Gingerbread (2.3) that My Backup all variations including the completely free MyBackup Root have been updated to "fully" support Gingerbread, according to it's changelog:
v2.6.5
- Full support for Android 2.3 except for alarms(API was removed).
- Support for new SQLite wal(Write ahead mode), and compatibility between 2.3 and pre OSes.
- Allow MBP to be installed on SDCard.
- Remove the 30 max files restriction in the online option.
- Append contact option.
- Put retry logic if download of backup fails.
- Fixed issue with primary key violation in schedule backup of photos.
- Notice: If going from 2.3 to a previous OS, some applications that are restored for root users that use SQLite might not work(crash) because 2.3 uses a new SQLite format that previous versions don't support. However, this issue has been taken care of regarding MyBakcup Pro databases.

I haven't used Gingerbread yet, so I can't personally verify that it fixes any issues that people have had with backing up and restoring apps.
Note that I also don't know if it's necessary to perform the original backup with 2.6.5 in order for it to restore correctly under Gingerbread as well. I wouldn't think so but keep it in mind if you try a restore of a backup made from an earlier version of My Backup.

Yeah I've been using MyBackup Pro ever since I was on stock 2.1 and never had an issue while now using it on Tazz's v8. Restores everything perfectly. I never used Titanium because I couldn't figure out how to backup contacts on it lol. MyBackup Pro just seems a lot easier and more user friendly !

Why don't you just sync contacts with Google and not worry about restoring them?

Cool, it's good to know another thing we have in common. Now that My Backup isn't slow like it used to, I doubt if I'll even try TB again unless My Backup causes me a problem sometime.

[Q] Titanium Backup

Ok, so I wanna start trying a lot of different roms, but didn't wanna keep losing all of my apps/settings, how exactly do i do that? someone told me to use Titanium Backup, and i got it, but am not quite sure how to use it... -.-; lol
There is a backup guide in my sig.
To be honest you'll learn to live without most of the settings backups you make but the app backups are useful. If you're going from rom to rom the settings will often not work - for example 2.1 backups won't work on 2.2. Sense UI backups wont work on Vanilla. 1.5 backups are a no go on 2.1 or 2.2 etc...
well google saves my contacts for me, but is there anyway to get around having to re-install all my apps?
Yes, use bulk backup of installed user apps in titanium, then restore them on new rom.
Donate version means no need to manually allow each app to get installed.
it works

Titanium Backup/Faster Restore

So I have/had over 200 apps that I backed up prior to flashing using Titanium Backup. Is there anyway to restore all these apps at once via CWM/Recovery or like ADB style so I don't have to go through and click install -> done on all the apps?
buy the pro version and you don't have to do that, still takes a little while though

Restoring with titanium between ROMs

so I had a full system + app backup made in titanium while on vipers ROM. I just flashed to team XRONs ROM and then did a full restore through titanium.
My question is, is titanium smart enough to not overwrite newer version of things when restoring?
I'm basically wondering if its technically possible to restore back to an older version of sense components via a restore.
Posted from my Evo3D on the XDA app
Yea it will restore the last backup, so ifs an older version that's what will be restored, you can always select uncheck what you don't want TB to restore.
I know that it won't help here but in the future, you may want to consider MyBackup Root for your backup options. You can find it in the market and it is free.
TB does the restore in batch mode relative to the last incrementally saved
backup, gives you the option to uncheck the apps you would not like to
install, which is very convenient.
I haven't had too much problem restoring backups of apps when jumping from one ROM to another. If you jump between Sense and AOSP ROMs, Titanium doesn't handle that well. With the 3D, there isn't a fully functional AOSP ROM yet, so you shouldn't have to worry about that now.
I wouldn't restore any system backups when jump from one ROM to another though. Just apps that I have downloaded from market, that's always worked for me. I don't usual restore apps that are part of the base ROM like Internet and Messaging. You may be able to do that go from one ROM to another, but you could be restoring older versions of apps.
I will have to look into MyBackup Root. Curious if it handles Sense to AOSP backup of Apps better.

I think that the Root version is free, the Pro version costs.
I used it coming over from stock rooted to viper. I unchecked everything viper's rom already had so it just imported new stuff for me (saving me at least 15 market downloads) and some other one off items and settings. Worked well. Just takes a second to dig through some times and make sure not to lay down unnecessary crap. Its also color coded for convenience.

[Q] What to change for google play store to auto-download apps from previous rom?

I'm using the PKMN Rom right now. When a new version comes out, I would like for it to auto-download the apps from the play store that I used to have. Is there something I have to change in the new rom to do that? A build.prop edit? Thanks in advance.
Titanium backup is your friend.
I came across a file
In the Rom zip try deleting sq-lopt
It's in /system/ect/init.d/
This would require a reflash tho
Joel could correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah, I have TiBu. But, it'd be nice if it auto-downloads after registering my g-account. Just wondering if it was a little mod I could do myself. That's all.

Thanks SCP! I will try this on the next PKMN update.
I've never gotten my Rezound to restore its apps or its wifi networks. I've also noticed that after a wipe, during the setup process, its asks you if you want to keep your device's networks and settings backed up with Google, but does not give you the option to restore your phone from Google like my Eris and my Transformers do... Has HTC just omitted this functionality??
Gingerbread did that for me but not ics. But I don't mind. Don't like it to auto download anyway.

I don't really think it's a good idea to restore from TB.
Although I paid for TB last year, I don't even bother installing it anymore.
When I flash a new rom I find it is MUCH better to reinstall an app from an APk than to restore it. I now use AppMonster Pro to save the APK from all the apps i use to a folder on my card and then clean install them on the new rom.....
The only times I have had it auto download was by signing into google during setup wizard.

Hm, I had a totally different experience. I had about 220 user apps installed. I did a batch backup with Ti Backup, and then a batch restore with data. I think there were seriously one or two apps that I had trouble with. I just wiped the data on those apps and set them up manually.
I guess I don't really see what the fuss is. Now I tend to just install apps from the Market so I get the latest version, and restore data on the few apps that I require lengthy setup.
I also tend to keep archives of my Ti Backup folders, because there are some times I need to go back to an old version of an app because of some crappy update.
I've done batch restore with data with Ti Backup with 200+ apps multiple times with virtually no issues. Some examples of apps I try to install clean are LBE Privacy Guard and Busybox Installer.
Maybe people are restoring system apps?
I always restore lots of different data and apps with tb and have no problem... Just don't restore something in red on system apps lol

Titanium Backup restore issues

Please can someone confirm I'm not the only one that is experiencing titanium backup restore issues..... Meaning not restoring anything, whether it's batch or individually.
This makes new rom flashing an absolute nightmare.
Now I am aware of the recent security updates by google where all apps require to be verified when being installed. A work around is disabling app verify and disabling internet connection. But this does not work for me. Now the only easy way (not so easy) is find all apps missing via titanium backup then selecting the view in market button, download and install the Play store way, then do a batch install of data only.
Anyone care to chime in?

Yup same problems, no answers. Developer doesn't help you for crap. Just auto email back leading you to message board. Everytime I flash new rom titanium backup screws up.
It's been like this for few months. Regret buying app now.

I haven't done a clean flash in quite a while, so I haven't had to restore anything. But I just tried restoring 2 apps that I no longer use and both were restored just fine by TiBu.
I'm not sure which rom you're on, stock or custom? I'm running Resurrection Remix 5.8.2 (Nougat) on H850 and like I said, no issues
I'm on Stock Nougat (rooted) and have no problems whatsoever with Titanium Backup and LG G5.

I just flashed RR just to see. And I thought I was in the clear when 2 apps restored a no problem when selected manually. But that was short lived having still problems during batch restore. It's seems to be only certain apps not installing and then causes it to freeze. It's then a force stop of TB and start again, but it's just as quick to do it manually.
Have you tried backing up all apps then restoring them so no data is lost and test to see. Because if you go to update your rom etc. TB is a nightmare.

I know I restored all my apps with TiBu when I made the switch from RR M to RR N last June and everything restored just fine. I've updated my rom countless times since then but I'm pretty sure I only made dirty flashes, meaning my apps didn't have to get restored.
When I tested it with those 2 apps yesterday it was a batch restore too ... but just to make sure I just backed up and batch restored 6 more apps without any issues. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make a difference if I tried again with 16 or 60 apps, on MY phone it works. I don't know why you're having problems, but it works fine here
So I did some more trial and error with good success.
Now I know of all the issues with using an external card as a backup location for titanium. So I have already tried to move my old backups from the external card to the internal sdcard where titaniums default location is, but I had the same results.
So just as an other test I decided to remove all my old backups and start fresh so to speak. I kept the backup location at its default when titanium is newly installed which is on the sdcard and done a full backup.
Backup worked as expected, so I then decided to batch restore some apps and to my surprise they all restored as one would normally expect.
So I suspected there was some kind of corruption to my old backups so I had to test. I moved all my old backup into the new working location.
Titanium showed all the old backups and guess what.... They all restored without issues.
So my guessing is it needs to backup at least once to its folder after a new install before it can use it correctly.
But on my previous tests before doing the above it did backup some old apps from its default location on the sdcard.
Weird and makes no sense..... To me anyway.

I'm inferring from some posts here that there may be problems with restoring TB backups stored on an external SD card. Here is some advice from Titanium Track, copied and pasted from item #31 on their Troubleshooting page:
31. External SD Card problems...
There is an elegant way of giving TitaniumBackup write access to the external sdcard, without having to forfeit security.... Since the time of Android 4.3, Google uses a very clean security-solution by giving apps that request write access to external SD, permission only to their own folder – not to the entire card! In order to get TitaniumBackup to work without compromising security, you can simply create a folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
If you already have existing backups, move them with a file-explorer from their current place to: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ Lastly, go to the preferences of TitaniumBackup, choose “Backup folder location” and choose the above specified folder.
Finish.
I followed this GUIDE back in Marshmallow days and have never had any issues since then - had a friend do it yesterday and now it works for him too. Maybe try that

My problem has never been with writing to the external SD card (although it was some time ago)
This is definitely a TB issue. It can't seem to restore most of my apps that are not already installed. As soon as you install the app manually TB works perfectly.
My solution which I have just done today is backup via TB on old rom but also backup with super backup.
Then flash new rom, use Super Backup to install all the apps (works like TB used to, but does not seem to restore data) then use TB to restore all data.
Twice the work as normal but not as bad as manually doing each app via playstore.
Also worth mentioning Super backup folder is working flawlessly from the externalSD but for batch mode to work you must use the default folder assigned on the externalSD.
