Will atrix rom development ever be like nexus one - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it all. I know we already got a rom really quick but I was currious if atrix well ever get on the nexus one level with a bunch of roms and devs? Also will there be roms that remove moto blur?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

Development for the atrix won't be quite like the Nexus, since that was a dev style phone.
Also, we don't technically have a ROM as it is just the modification of system files, and not a complete flashable package.
If a Nexus One like experience is important, consider the Nexus S when it comes to AT&T.

Can't afford and iI love this phone. I just want to rid it of blur or a less laggy blurr. will it at least get roms like the vibrant?

Try installing an alternate launcher like ADW, Go Launcher, or Launcher Pro (my launcher of choice) in the meantime.
Edit: Also, Moto said somewhere they will give us the tools in the future to really play with the phone, so only time will tell. If they ever keep to that promise, then we'll have nothing stopping us from really getting ROMs and Kernels out just like any phone with an unlocked bootloader.

Im sure were getting closer. I think we have quite a few developers working on trying to unlock it. Also, DG is working very hard at it too. Once it's unlocked we should see quite a few ROMs, kernels, and themes since it is atts first major android phone and the first dual core phone out.

This belongs in General or Q&A - NOT DEVELOPMENT.... people need to learn the flipping RULES and start FOLLOWING.... this is why these forums become so cluttered up.... NOONE follows RULES..... **facepalm**

[Q] Froyo w/ Sense?

Looks like a number of Sense-based phones have been or will shortly be upgraded to 2.2. Any of our great devs looking into this? I'd be more interested in a Sense-Based 2.2 Rom than what we have currently. No offense to all of you. I'm currently running CELB Froyo and love it. I really like Sense and the HTC components as well.
Thanks.
Careful, I asked the exact same question (when the desire 2.2 with sense was posted) and got reported for it.

I remember that now. I was trying to recall what your question was. I hope I don't get in trouble. Just looking for something that isn't currently offered.
Thanks.

Yeah I remember that also. Some dude with 10 posts thought he was a big man on campus.

This is all I wrote, and I was reported immediately by several users:
I know it's possible now since there are Desire and Incredible ROMs running Sense on Froyo, so I'd be very happy if a developer could figure out how to port one of those to the Eris. Obviously they're different screen resolutions (and the Desire is GSM instead of CDMA), but it must be possible. Thank you in advance!

Whaddya think...
Dare I go over there and ask the devs if it would be possible to have a Froyo ROM that will play nice with a partitioned SD card?
(Not to run apps2sd, which is partly irrelevant in 2.2, but just to ease the process of flip-flopping back and forth between 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs)

In all honesty I think that out very possible. I might be talking out of my butt though. One possibility would be to take the HTC stuff and port it to froyo. It could be intresting to see what could happen.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
thenestor that's absolutely ridiculous that you were reported... people are crazy sometimes.
Anyway when an HTC phone gets sense officially it will get ported I'm sure.
But that has happened. I don't recall the models but there has been a couple already upgraded officially.

senseui
Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me that the best chance for a FroYo w/ senseui rom lies in porting senseui from one of the mytouch3g devices as they are running the same resolution and 16-bit color.... Since this is the only phone 'officially' slated for upgrade it looks to be the most promising avenue.
The most exciting aspect of senseui imo.... FlashLite... by far the most missed feature in the 2.2 roms IMO

[Q] Is there a specific reason development for MoPho has been so slow?

I'm just wondering why the development community for the Photon has been so slow. I am not complaining, and am extremely greatful for everyone's work on the projects that keep us modders happy. I'm simply curioius as to whether or not there's a specific issue (an unreleased SDK, just a difficult phone to develop for, etc) as there have been several phones that have come out since the MoPho and already have more roms/kernals/etc. Again, this is simply out of curiosity. Thank you for any answers that you guys can provide.

Are those not still in Alpha phase though? Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but I was talking about full releases. However, I could be just not looking hard enough or am looking over the obvious, which with me, is entirely possible.
Well considering everything software wise should be considered beta(perfect software will never happen). Im pretty sure my stuff is safe. When i release a kernel, i upload from that kernel. I cant guarantee no bugs because not even stock isnt without bugs. I use alpha to scare away people that will brand all my stuff crap. Once a kernel goes stable its the same kernel just tested by more than just me.

I don't think this is entirely true. I came from the Evo 4G, and development/roms were plentiful from the dev community for that phone.
While it is a bit disconcerting to see the lack of development for my new Photon, it is important to remember that developers do this on their own time. However, as others have said, this device is far and above, even with Motoblur (which is awful, btw), what most other devices have to offer. There are, obviously, some other highly spec'd Sprint phones, like the SGSII, Evo3d, and the Nexus S 4G. And with the now impending release of the new Nexus on Sprint, I would assume development for the MoPho will likely drop altogether.
All that said, I do wish I had a stable AOSP ROM to put on this phone, with a nice guide on the most up-to-date rooting method(s). I only got this phone yesterday, so it'll be a few hours of fishing through hundreds of pages of forums before I'm ready to start rooting (I'm on 2.3.4)...my concern is what to put on my phone AFTER I'm rooted. :-(
Anyways -- thanks to all the devs that have put something together for us. Joker, it seems that your stuff is at the forefront, while some people are apparently still using the CM7 build from Cybik. Maybe I'll try it all!
Just to give a little perspective regarding software, when the company I work for goes to update an existing device with new code it takes a fair amount of full time software developers and testers (at least 3 or 4 of each) and a couple of months to get something out in a fairly stable state when they are familiar with the code that are updating.
What the developers here are doing is makes updates to code they did not create or develop and lord knows if there is one thing developers hate to do is comment code. So it makes it even more difficult for anyone to first understand what the code is doing in order to make that changes let alone someone who has a separate full time job.
I know your not complaining about the slowness, only asking why so I thought I would give me 2 cents.
Yeah jokers cm9 is running great! You should try it out. The only reason not to use it is the camera doesn't work so if that is important to you just wait. I barely use the camera so doesn't bother me.

[Q] [Opinion] Why no dev love for the X2?

Some nice ROMs and themes came around after the bootloader was unlocked last summer, but I can't help but feel as though the dev community is done with it. There's still no Cyanogen and I just know it's not getting any ICS goodness.
Why is that? The Droid X2 is still one of the best Android phones out there, plenty of people have it. Opinions?
The bootloader has never been unlocked.
The X2 is a great phone....if you've never played around with another android device before.
we still have devs around, like dragonz, ace, masta, and that team, theyre trying to port over CM7 and we have 2nd-init, so theres still dev love, but with the BL not being unlocked as of yet there isnt too much we can do at this moment
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
As stated, the bootloader is not unlocked. Root was acquired, but that is different from unlocking the bootloader.
But I feel what else hurts it is the 512mb main memory. Even though it's a dual-core phone, the limited main memory has hurt it, IMHO.
But, the locked bootloader is what has really held this phone back. As stated by ztotherad, you can only release so many deodexed ROMs before it just doesn't matter anymore. I think we are getting to that point.
Since the kernel and bootloader are locked, you can't do much more customization.
We are on the brink of aosp roms running on our phones. That has taken a lot of time to work on, and by some wonderful devs. It may have taken a while bit this phone is starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Really there are now only a small handful of things this phone cannot do, like overclock, but we are now seeing a huge door open for us and its all because of "dev love", a few never gave up on this phone even though so many others have.

How in the world can you say that there is no development for this phone? Yes, it's been slow, and yes, not a lot are on it. But the ones who are (definitely myself included) are hard at work trying to get this thing going.
Read the development forums. I have at least two [REF] posts in there that explain a lot of the work I've been doing. In fact the one about CM7 needs another update. I update my twitter before I update that though. It's @dragonzkiller. Even if you don't have an account just look me up and you can see that I've been making a lot of progress with CM7. That, sir, is dev love.

Thanks for all the insane amount of time you put into this....(and everyone else to!)
Thanks for me filling me in; didn't realize that having root and unlocking the boot loader were different. I wasn't hating on the devs when I said there was no love; there is plenty of it, it's just that X2 ROMs never seem to play nice, and low RAM doesn't help an often slow and buggy UI.

Go for the older?

Me and my mother are switching to At&t soon, and I'm kinda stuck. I have an Epic on Sprint now and development is top notch. Miui,cm7,cm9, sense ports are being worked on, its just great. The HTC Vivid is more comparable to the Skyrocket really. It's huge.
I've only had the HTC Inspire 4G but that phone was worlds harder to mod than the SGS2. HTC seems more adamant about people not rooting their devices, and for that reason I'd say go for the SGS2. Plus this phone basically shares the i9100 community since the Hellraiser by Entropy. I don't know much about the Vivid community so I cant comment there. The only appealing thing to me about HTC is its Sense UI. I personally like it better than TouchWiz.
Honestly if Dev support is what you're looking for then this is the phone for your, vivid can't even compare.

Any Galaxy S variant will be the best option for development, mainly because the international versions get ported over relatively quickly and have huge dev support.
Go with the vivid, faster data, better ui, better hardware and will probably have ICS before the SG2, ohh and yes you can unlock the bootloader with developer tool.

Better UI is subjective, i find sense to be a little too over the top with animations and it slows the phone down with its bloat. We have better hardware no question thoug, the vivid may have better build quality, but its hardware is definitely not better (Exynos>>>>>>>> Snapdragon). The S II never had a locked bootloader to begin with either so we didn't have to wait months for that. Also, what the hell makes you think we'll get ICS after the vivid? we are waiting for two things that will be solved when source is released for the international Galaxy S II i9100, which has a huge developer following unlike the vivid.
Tough call. I love my gs2. I'm always looking at flashing too. Since the hellraiser package from the great entropy it opened the doors to almost all the roms at the I9100 section. Now we have a flashaholic tool also. Only downfall for the time being is us waiting for kernel source for ics. Which should hopefully be real soon. Most all the devs in the I9100 are now doing ics roms and unfortunately we can't run it properly. But when that day comes when we can watch out, the flood gates will be wide open to tons of roms.

Any LTE device will deliver poor battery life - just like UMTS (3G) was bad for battery in the first 1-2 years of its existence.
After a year or two, LTE will hopefully no longer have the power penalty it currently has, but right now, LTE = battery hogging fatty. Just look at how awful all of Verizon's phones have been in the weight/battery life arena since they moved to LTE. Supposedly the radios in AT&T's LTE phones are better, but all reports I've heard indicate otherwise.
The Vivid boot unlocker is a HTC site, once you use it your phone's warranty is null and void. Really nice HTC.
GS2 has CM7, MIUI, numerous hellraised roms, and Samsung touchwiz roms. Development in the Vivid is much more limited. Maybe that will change in the future but who can say.
Good point - technically the flash counter on GS2 voids your warranty, but it's REALLY easy to bypass that currently.
Voiding warranty due to custom binaries is lame - If a manufacturer is concerned with custom firmware causing problems, they simply need to make it easy to return-to-stock. None of this bull**** with putting minefields in the path of those who want custom firmware that make it easier to brick.
Samsung already has this capability, but they only enable it from the factory on the Galaxy Player. With a full return-to-stock image, the Galaxy Player 5.0 cannot be hardbricked by any means - if the bootloaders are corrupted, it falls back to a built-in bootloader mode within the CPU hardware. All Hummingbird and Exynos devices have this capability but Samsung usually disables it.

[Q] Main reason for custom roms or the lack there of.

I'm sorry but this question has been bothering me for sometime. I have googled this question but have had no luck. What is the main reason there aren't a lot of custom roms like the international one has? I know our device is newer so I'm just simply asking. This isn't a complaint, ETA or a rant, its simply a question. I know when the atrix came out there were some pseudo roms out until the bootloader became unlocked and then the floodgates opened. Will most of the international roms make it over to this phone eventually. I'm sorry in advanced if this question has been asked before but I really tried to find it first.
the international phone uses a different chipset than this one so no none of the roms will work. the reason we dont have so many roms is because we dont have as many devs as everyone else does (my opinion) but this phone isnt that greatly wanted because of its size so we may never have a lot of roms. the ones we do have are great we just need more themes to go with them. you can port a rom from the skyrocket or t-mobile gs2 if you would like to. im currently running t-mobile ics rom now
Im hoping that theres lot of roms to come but what do i know. The phone is great, not sure why its not popular, yea its big but still sick.

the international phone uses a different chipset than this one so no none of the roms will work. the reason we dont have so many roms is because we dont have as many devs as everyone else does (my opinion) but this phone isnt that greatly wanted because of its size so we may never have a lot of roms. the ones we do have are great we just need more themes to go with them. you can port a rom from the skyrocket or t-mobile gs2 if you would like to. im currently running t-mobile ics rom now

I believe someone tried to flash a skyrocket rom to their note... didn't end well.
The moral of the story is: you can't.
Edit: unless you port it (something not so easy), as smartguy044 said.
You have to change a few files but it works. Im using tmobile rom with everything working great and a theme for the skyrocket

Uhhh, not wanted? The US version of the Galaxy Note has sold more than 5 million units since launch, 7 weeks ago.

How did you do it? Which ROM and what changes did you have to make? There's a considerable difference in displaybresolution, so I'm curious as to how you did it.

Eh. The main reason is because this phone is so new. It hasn't even been out for 2 months. Thats not long in the dev community. Hell, it took like 6 months just to unlock the bootloader on my atrix and even longer for ROMs. With ICS rolling out and the note gaining traction, you will see an abundance of dev help in the coming months

I agree that the Note is "wanted", which will eventually be great for future rom development. However, the figure is 5 million sold globally since the global version's release, not just the US market.

Better than I expected.
We just had a few new dev's join our team, announcement of upcoming cm9, ics release... i'd say we're in pretty good shape for some solid roms coming very soon.
