Will we be able to load completely Blur-less custom ROMs? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I realize that we won't be able to load custom kernals and running AOSP won't be possible, but I'm a bit confused to the extent we'll be able to customize via ROMs.
I'm guessing that we will be able to go completely Blur-less, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.

The current state of hacking the atrix:
Yes, we will be able to load stock ROMS soon, but not stuff like cynagon. Those "special" roms need custom "kernels" not available until the bootloader is cracked. Even with a signed loader, it is still possible to get a stock rom. By summer, they will have gingerbread on this thing easy.
(if i mistold the information, please kindly correct me)

Thanks, that was just the type of answer I was looking for. I realized we wouldn't being CM or MIUI or other famous roms of the type, but I didn't know the extent of what's capable with the roms that we will be able to have. Stock is A-OK for me!

R there any ICS ones?
WOuld love to hear ur thoughts

Seriously, if you don't know whether or not there's even an ICS ROM available yet, maybe you shouldn't be flashing a $600+ phone, yeah? Or, you know... use the search tool?

you should try with stock rom for a while, start reading about flashing roms and you will be ready to flash
I know it's annoying to have to wait, but it's better to do it, than wind up with a potentially ruined device.
@benyben123
I suggest trying out Checkrom 4.0. It is very stable
Stock ROM but ROOTED and your' good to go..................friendly recommendation
Dude, if You just got Your phone and don't know what rom to choose at first learn the device. You don't need neither custom rom nor root. These are just addons for great device. It's common that people don't use their device but play with it and it ends badly. You assumed that any rom is good apart from stock but stock rom is very good. Also You don't need to root it instantly. Some say that "phone is unusable in non rooted state" - it's bull s**t. Apps that require root are designed to meet very specific needs, not for regular users. It's because android is veery advanced and allow many things without administrator privileges (this is not an iphone !). Remember - people think that root is "something everyone should do at once" - no it's not, and it's very dangerous in hands of unexperienced user. One false move with root privileges and You will start learning many things about flashing at once just to recover your device. Also remember that this is not another "application privilege". App with root privs is capable of wiping entire system in a seconds including IMEI data etc.
It's really friendly advice - leave Your phone as it is for now, learn how it works, install some apps and read as much as You can. Then You will know what your device is capable of and what can be achieved by rooting / flashing kernels or roms. Flashing without a reason, just for fun is stupid and ends with full pants.

Thank you all for all your responses!!! Much appreciated!!!
Official MIUI without a doubt. The best ROM I've used on any device.

But is MIUI even supported? Isn't it ported (which means its not so good, but only kinda?)

...another thing worth to read about. What do You mean by supported ? It's supported by it's designers.
For SGS2 we have custom ROMs like CheckROM - modified Samsung officials, added some tweaks, apps, removed less usable apps. And ROMs like MIUI or CyanogenMod - they are AOSP (android open source project) and have little in common with Samsung official firmware, ex. no TouchWiz so some Samsung specific apps will not work on them. According to Wikipedia - MIUI is based on CM7.1 sources.
MIUI is not "ported", it's prepared for many devices including SGS2.
Don't do *anything* until you've done a *lot* of reading. Enjoy the phone. It's a fantastic device simply running stock firmware.
Once you're comfortable enough to be able to do it in your sleep (And not before. If you have to ask questions about this, you're not ready. It is an absolutely simple process), root your phone using a CFRoot kernel.
This will enable you to remove/freeze all the crap telcos/Samsung put on the phone and all the other joyful things that come with having a rooted phone. And do a lot more reading. Only this time read the threads devoted to the various roms/kernels. Read other users experiences with these. The features. Pluses. Downsides. Ask specific questions about them in these threads.
From there, you can make an informed decision about a rom/kernel combo to try. Believe me, if you do a couple of weeks of reading/research before you do anything, you'll reap the rewards.
If you jump in the deep end without understanding what you're doing, you could end up with a soft brick that might take you a few days to fix at best. Or returning the phone to Samsung /potentially having to pay to have it repaired out of your own pocket at worst.
Just a few things to consider

What is the big deal with a locked bootloader?

I know everyone was *****ing about Motorola Verizon keeping the bootloader locked on the RAZR.
Well now that I have used/flashed/installed custom ROMs I like it.
Several brilliant Devs have overcome the "problem" (Safestrap and BMM, et al) and we can load custom ROMs and even multiple ROMs for multi-boot operating systems.
And, short of a hardware failure, we still have the ability to restore to factory image if something goes awry while we are playing with our phones.
Feels like troll bait.
Not trolling. Serial question. Bootloader is locked and anything that anybody wants to do to the phone can be done.
I too, don't understand. Isn't a locked bootloader supposed to prevent custom ROMs? I don't own this device, but I may plan to, so I want to know whether to avoid it or not...

you can run custom ROMs even though the bootloader is locked. I am running two custom ROMs.
That's why I am asking what the BFD is.
NO custom kernels. If we had an unlocked BL then problems like camera, bluetooth, screen rotation could be fixed much faster. Now all the devs are doing is using motorolas kernel 3.0.8 and no one is using kexec (dont ask my why...)
There is no posibility for a custom kernel.
Have you tried any CM10 rom?
Sure its fast at the beginning, but in dayli use, with dozens of apps. It is slower than stock.
All roms that are not stock based will have some extra lag besides all the bugs. Because of problems with the libraries in the kernel.
Also, the jpeg compression, 120fps recording and all those wonders aren't available because of the kernel limits...

Thanks for the answers guys. That is why I asked. It also answers why the CM10 roms I have tried also have BT, camera, and screen rotation problems. Two birds with one stone!!
The Razr Developer Edition has the unlocked bootloader. Can the devs find a way to unlock the bootloader of the normal Droid Razr if they'll have this phone?
well, thanks to the big guys.
but i am still dreaming an unlocked bootloader for a much more easier way to flash roms and other changes like recovery and radio
maybe it is not suitable for me to buy moto phones

[Q] Can I install any ROM on the HDX7?

I have a hdx7. I'm pretty new to the modding scene, more playing around with what others have already tried.
I already have safestrap, but I was wondering whether you could install any ROM, stock KitKat or Cyanogenmod for instance, or whether they have to be tailored to the device itself? I assume the latter but thought I would ask.
Cheers

Do you know if there are any ROMs out there. So far I just have the one modified stock ROM
There is a second one on the Android development forum that appears to have promise. It's an actual Tablet ROM. The guy working on it is a godsend. Only a few problems with it left, after that we'll have a super-awesome kindle.
Cool, I'll check that out. Do you have a link to the forum post?

[Q] Need some info about flashing kernel - locked/unlocked bootloader.

Hey guys,
First of i'm not sure if this is a appropriate thread to ask this, if not i'm sorry and will move/remove it.
Anyways it's been awhile since i've been in the android scene and xda in general, had an iphone for about a year or two and just recently got my Z2:victory: so i'm back but things changed a little and i need a little info if anyone can help,
Basically i'm looking to flash [Xperia Z2] DooMKernel v09 kernel but i read it requires an unlocked bootloader... so basically i need to know if my bootloaders unlocked now that i flashed recovery (check signature) (Does flashing recovery unlock a bootloader?) and can i just flash the zip?
or do i need to still unlock my bootloader even though i have dual recovery and then flash the kernel?
Your bootloader is still locked, what you did is you installed recovery for locked bootloader.
Do not try to flash custom kernel on locked bootloader, you'll soft brick your phone.
What you need in order to flash custom kernel is to unlock bootloader, but firstly you need to back up your TA keys ( click here )
For more info click HERE (about unlocking)
Proceed carefully!
Regards!
hey thanks for the info, that' clears up everything, I did already backup my TA partition so I guess all I need to do is unlock bootloader then flash the kernel! quick question have you flashed your kernel? I know I read the info an features of it but is there any upside to it on a z2? my device is pretty fast an stable as is, just looking for a reason to flash mine, any further advice you can give me? is it worth it?

Well to be honest, I haven't, I didn't find any reason to do so, the stock is doing good for me at the moment.
As for the side affects, or as you say upside downs, there is no any, not at least that I'm aware of, but as far as I saw it's not compatible with every rom, only with stock as with stock based ones, I mean developer does not guarantee for it's stability if it's being used along with any other rom. I have rooted and flashed recoveries only to use existenz rom. I heard for Doomlord's kernel, that it has "fix" for a video recorder mic, you can control it's sensitivity and it's far more battery friendly.
Ah I see! thanks, think I'll stick with the stock kernel for the time being, I don't have any complaints at the moment with it but if I ever do decide to switch to the doom kernel atleast I know what to do first, I've got one last question though sorry, do I need to unlock my bootloader to flash a custom rom? I don't think I do, I'm pretty sure I don't, but just want to make sure, used to have only low end droid devices back in the day when I used to be here, didn't have things like dual recoveries etc so yeah I'm kind of reading an learning as I'm going along, pretty awesome device though sleek and powerful I've only been doing minor adjustments to the stock rom using xposed modules, haven't used a custom rom as yet but I will soon...

Well, yes and no, LB means its for locked bootloaders and UB means for unlocked bootloaders, search for those to two words when you find the rom which you can flash.
Some roms require unlocking, some do not. All stock based roms usually dont require, but as I told you, it will be stated in Rom's thread name or in OP.
Regards!
Ah! I'll be sure to look out for those, thanks for the valuable info, think that's all I needed to find out. I should be ok from here on out

Help choosing Kernal and/or ROM

I just purchased an Xperia Z4 Tablet and have been researching the different options when rooting. It seems like the AndroPlusKernel is the most popular choice but I'm not entirely sure why. From what I can tell, that will allow me to use the stock ROM and as such it may be the most issue free?
Another popular option appears to be the CyanogenMod 13. I know that the kernel and ROM are different and I can choose either or both. But after reading through quite a number of posts, I'm not sure what this custom ROM offers that I can't get by just doing AndroPlus followed by some cleanup of unwanted bloat. And would anyone actually want to use both?
Can anybody else provide some insight and direction? I'm not looking to do anything crazy extravagant here, just root access to allow for ad-blocking as well as some additional functions I don't get with stock.
Thanks for helping me learn!

Exactly. AndroPlusKernel is the only custom kernel available for the stock ROM. The stock ROM is the only thing available that runs totally fine. CyanogenMod and derivatives have only just popped up and are still having issues. Even if there were no issues left, I have learnt throughout the years on different Android systems that (rooted) stock will probably run smoother and better battery-wise.

With Xposed you can add a lot of functionality that years ago you had to flash a custom ROM for. I don't miss anything in stock+root+xposed that I remember from the old days using AOSP-variants on my previous Android devices.

Sweet.... and thank you! You answered my question with everything I needed to know. I'll add xposed if I feel I need something extra, but for now, I'm going for the AndroPlusKernel. Time to go hunt for the instructions on doing this!
***Edit*** I think I found what I'm looking for here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-tablet/development/kernel-andropluskernel-v1-t3170689.
However, it shows the latest version is .34. But when I go to the download links, the latest I see is .31. Anybody else have this issue?

Actually, stock ROM is supposed to be used with no root and tweeks. For example, YouTube background module for YouTube works with the bug, it just stops to play videos after a while. Only reboot helps to fix it. And according to stability, Resurrection remix is the same stable as stock ROM. Moreover, custom ROM is much easy and faster to upgrade. No flash tool needed, with loss of data.
Battery life with custom ROM is good.
