Yesterday i installed Kaosgingerbread rom to my eris and it worked sucessfully...but i found out that all of my apps are gone EVEN MY APP MARKET the only app i have is superuser so now there is no market to get rom manager.! WHAT DO I DO?! i need help asap please if you are reading this help me an and if anyone knows what to do reply or something!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much//// o yea and also my messeging works but when i try to add a gmail account it wont load successfully to..
You need to find the appropriate gapps zip file and flash it along with the new ROM to get market back. Flashing a new ROM will almost always delete everything on the phone.
OK i am kind of new to this sorrry for being a pain in the butt but can you explain it more because i really like the rom and all but besides the fact that i dont have the marketplace it sucks...so if its possible can you explain step by step and if not would it be possible to contact you through something like xbox or maybe email?

Most, but not all of the time anymore when you flash new ROMs you have to flash the GAPPs (Google Apps) package immediately after flashing the ROM, before you reboot into the ROM. Otherwise things like Market and GMail aren't there and you have a crippled phone.
You have to start over from scratch from recovery doing a factory reset/data and cache wipe and then flash the ROM and then the GAPPs.
Enjoy!!!

Not really true. When i flashed my rom I reboot to homescreen, then flash gapps from recovery. No need to reflash the rom.

AFAIK, this advise given by most of the devs in their ROM threads was based on some reports, from time to time, that people who hadn't flashed the GAPPs before booting the ROM, and flashing it after caused their phones to not behave correctly. Flashing it immediately eliminates any possibility that someone might have a problem with that particular part of it, so it's wiser to be cautious and just give the blanket advise to do it immediately than to chance that with some ROMs or some phones, problems might arise.
yea well.. anyone wanna post a tut. on how to do this or something

Download the gapps file from kaos thread. Place gapps zip along with the Rom zip to the root of your sd card. Reboot into recovery. Wipe/factory reset. Wipe dalvik. Flash Rom. Flash gapps. Reboot. Enoy.
That is very true. You'll get the jist of things when u flash roms more often
wait i havent done anything yet but is there a way to restore my phone just back to factory settings?

Reboot both devices (with the phone unplugged from the computer to start with) and try again. Also, you can mount the SD card via USB directly from Amon RA or Clockwork Mod Recovery. Something like Mount USB-MS in Amon. In Clockwork Mod, it's in the partitions menu.

Hey guys.
Using Samsung Galaxy S Froyo 2.2.1 I9000
Was installing CM7 today through CWM in Recovery Mode, at first it wouldn't work, threw me an error about signature verification, found it was because of 3e verification on zip files, so flashed the kernel with Odin to 2e.
After installing the kernel, ran the CM7 again and it ran fine, followed the instructions, wiped before installing CM7. The install looked like it ran fine, phone rebooted no problem, but it came back to a wiped Froyo still, didn't load CyanogenMod at all.
Anyway, there's no GMail app, and only Market, and Market wont let me add a Google account even if I say yes to the prompt. Looked round the SGS forums, didn't see anything like this.
I'm guessing I did something wrong, help someone?

I can only describe it as once I got to the step of rebooting the phone, it didn't load CyanogenMod, I was expecting the CM animation but I got my normal Froyo screen, does that make sense?
Probably a bad download. Delete the download and do it again. But just a word of advice...ROM's come with kernels, so if you flash a kernel first and then a ROM, you are going to lose the first one you flashed.
Thanks lowandbehold, one problem though.
I wiped the phone following the instructions, so I don't have ROM Manager anymore and can't open the Market, it asks me if I want to sign in with a Google account, I hit yes and nothing happens.
Ideas?
Sorry for double post, looks like I made some progress possibly.
Got the CM7 animation on boot, but doesn't go any further.
Got Clockworkmod recovery up though, flashed speedmod kernel, and CM7 initial kernel through ODIN.
Now in recovery mode when I go to install "update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyS-signed.zip" I get an error about assert failed, error in the zip, status 7 and aborts.
Did you make a nandroid backup of the stock ROM before you flashed? If so, try to revert back to that. If you didnt make a backup, do a full wipe...wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and go into advanced and wipe the davlik cache. Then go to install zip from SD Card and select the CM7 zip. You should also check the md5 sum of the zip file to see if it matches up to make sure the download was good. You will be able to figure something out, as long as you can get into recovery and not getting crazy cache errors your phone should be 100% recoverable. Maybe even try something that is not CM7...just keep at it.
---------- Post added at 12:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:11 PM ----------
Also, standby on the kernel for now. Get CM7 up and running on the kernel it provides you with and then make a backup in CWM. Then you can try to change the kernel...if you have issues then you can just go to your CM7 backup.
Would the backup be a recovery-update.zip file in the \clockwordmod folder?

No, it's in recovery/backup on the clockword recovery screen.. personally, I like Amon Recovery a lot better than CM. Clockwork doesn't wipe the cache as well good luck! Hope you get it working

Thanks haha, went back and fixed it too. I don't have solid facts about it, but I have read in multiple threads that
1) People love Clockwork
2) People say Clockwork doesn't wipe the Dalvik cache thoroughly and sometimes causes boot loops (I've never had one)
I have had some problems with Clockwork personally. But, this is just my opinion. Also, Clockwork doesn't recognize some zips that I try to flash while Amon does. Anyway, it's all your opinion, whatever feels better to you.
There's all these MIUI apps in the marketplace. I'd need someone to help me with the ROM Installation, though I'd like to learn how to do it on my own. I don't know when I need to update Clockwork, or why I need to, or what commands to execute in it (like clearing stuff.)
MIUI looks great, my cousin keeps talking it up. I have a ton of questions about it, most of which can be answered if I install it and mess around. Is there anywhere I can learn about it? I've looked around http://miuiandroid.com/ but haven't found anything specific.
If anyone can help me install it, we can talk on Google Talk. As for any questions, my main one is how do I edit it? Can I put only three buttons on the bottom bar, like Stock Android?
Anyway, I'm excited to put a new ROM on my phone. Can anyone help?
your best bet is to start in the forum of your device. See of miui is available for it
Does your phone even have a MIUI rom availabe?
In case of your cellphone being supported, it's just flashing over stock or CM7.
If it's available for your phone, it should be on Miui.us
You need to check first if your phone is supproted. Look in the ROM section on miuiandroid.
Then basically what you need to do, is root your phone and install clock work recovery (there will be guides in your phones forums.
Once you have done that you want to create a nandroid backup (you do that by selecting 'backup' in clock work recovery.
Once thats done you will want to wip data, cache, dalvik and battery stats.
Then from clock work click install from zip, point it to your sd card where you have downloaded the MIUI rom) and install it!
Pretty much that simple.

How do I know if my clockwork recovery is up to date? My phone already has been rooted, and my phone is supported by MIUI.
Check out Rom Manager, it will let you know if your CWM is up to date.

What is Rom Manager? Is it in CWM or is it an app for the phone? Or maybe a website
Here is very detailed information on how to install MIUI (or cm or whatever) on a HTC HD2. I don't know which phone you have, so you probably won't have to do steps 1 (HSPL) and 2 (Radio rom), but the other steps should be the same. Just make sure you use the right files for your phone.
The miui website provides install information for every phone too

I always did that manually through some magic that I never understood as my friend walked me through it. So this app makes it easy? Will it install it from in the app itself?
And once CWM is updated, I just head into it and open the file, right?

yes this app makes it easier. It will update your phone to the latest CWM and also you can download the rom the app.
Once, the CWM is updated. Reboot. And then reboot into recovery (CWM), nandroid (backup your current rom), and then go ahead and wipe data, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, also battery stats. and flash the new rom (install from zip option in CWM).

Don't wipe battery stats unless you have a full battery and plan on calibrating it properly. It will destroy your battery life.
I see people give this advice all the time, and it's not good advice. Wiping battery stats shouldn't be a part of your wiping routine unless you calibrate each time.

Hi there,
I tried to flash a new rom and it some how is stuck on the reboot screen.
Any help in what to do, would be great!
Thanks!
Pull the battery, put it back. Hold button combo to boot to recovery. Flash the ROM again but do not wipe. Reboot and you should be good.
FFR please list which ROM you are coming from and the ROM you are flashing.

Thanks, for your help!
I ended up taking out the battery, and then rebooting it, and it went to the Recovery mode.
I actually did wiped everything all over again, like you were doing it from the start originally, and it seemed to work fine.
I cant even remember what I was coming from, I had it on my Phone for almost two years, and it was old and the battery life was terrible.
I tried RemlCS-JB its not bad, but I think I am going to try another one. Any suggestions? I have been away from this forum for over a year, so anything recent with good battery life and good GPS is ideal.
The rom did not seem to come with an app downloader such as google play, or Clockwork manager.
Anyone know how to get into reboot recovery mode without clockworkmanager?
When I try to download clockworkmanager online it does not let me really download it.
When I try to install a new Auxura rom it states the following:
It says Installation aborted
Above that, it states please switch Edify scripting
Anyone know, if I have to do something else? I am just doing a normal Clockwork Flash.
I wiped the data/factory set, then tried to install the rom

Did you Odin back to stock before trying to flash a ROM that is a previous version of android? It could cause a lot of problems if you don't Odin back to stock first!
Did you flash gapps on the ROM that you said was missing apps etc?
Gapps is a package of Google apps that devas can't include in the ROM.
I wouldn't use ROM manager, in most ROMs, there is an option to reboot to recovery in power menu. You can also power down and use button combo to boot to recovery.
I highly suggest reading through some of the dev threads for any ROMs you are interested in. It will answer most of your questions and prevent future issues.

Oh yeah, it said to flash GAPPS after, but I never did. Where do you get GAAPS?
No, I dont even have ODIN installed on my computer and all of those drivers, so It is something I do not want to do.
It has been 2 years since, I switched, so I randomly flashed to this new one, but I want to try a different one, but seems to get an error.
Ill try a few other roms to see if they work though.

You can get the gapps from the op of the ROM thread or go to www.goo.im/gapps
As far as Odin etc
If you are on an ICS or JB ROM and want to go back to a froyo or GB ROM, you need to odin to stock first.
General rule of thumb, you can flash up but to flash down, Odin to stock first.

i am stuck. i tried to flash super charged hatka 320 dpi and i have gone in the wrong direction because my dna doesnt boot up properly. after super hatka gets past the boot i am able to get to the lock screen and once i swipe to unlock, it says unfortunately settings have stopped working. my launcher doesnt work. i cant operate the phone what so ever except for looking at the settings. when i get a text message i can reply, but thats pretty much it. i have experience in rooting and flashing the htc g2, gs2, and the gnexus. but this htc dna is something different and i am having extreme difficulties. i can go into much more detail if someone has the moment to help me out
Maybe if you try to re-install the Rom will all be ok....it might solve the problem...did you do a proper wipe before flashing...and did you create a nandroid backup if so restore it in Recovery and then flash the Rom again...if. not first do a proper wipe and then reflash the Rom....I use viperdna so I don't know if you have after the install to flash any kernel, fix or something???check it first and then procceed with the other things..hope to helped yiu

i may have had a bad download. i was using the 320 dpi senseless rom, my phone was unusable like i had stated, but i managed to get it running.
here is what i did to fix it:
in the settings, i linked my dna with my google account, and as i expected, i received play store notifications about updates, so i chose the notification and it took me to a fully functioning play store.
i downloaded apex launcher and it installed properly. pressed the home button and it automatically set itself as the default launcher and bam! my dna was beginning to function.
downloaded xda app and went to the super charged thread and downloaded the slim version of the rom instead of the senseless rom.
flashed the boot.img, flashed the modules, then flashed the slim rom and i didnt get any errors or failed messages this time.
i dont want to point fingers and i would never do that here on a fantastic community, but the senseless rom was giving me issues, maybe it just needs some more work. anyways phone is functioning like normal now, everything works and the battery is outstanding so far.
thank you to those for the advice. i was getting ready to call it quits and send this thing back to amazon wireless.

I'm using Beanstalk on my phone and I get a lot of random reboots. Mostly when I'm unlocking the phone. I press the button and the soft keys light up the phone freezes and 5 or so seconds later it reboots. It also happens during calls sometimes when I take the phone away from my face and the screen turns on and sometimes when I'm listening to music. It's also happened a few times while I was using the phone. I don't restore any data(unless you count the apps that automatically reinstall from the playstore when I boot the phone, and a few apks from blackmart) I've tried reflashing but that was only a temporary fix. I always have problems with roms being really buggy even though I always to clean flashes.
Can someone help me to fix this? I use this device to play music over a sound system for crowds of people so I really need this bug fixed. (preferably without reflashing but I will if need be.)

You mentioned a kernel? How would I go about that? I'm still relatively new to rooted devices. So please provide a detailed step-by-step information if you can.

you can go to the Original Development thread and find the thread for the Uber kernel. pay attention cause one is for JB and the other for KK. whichever Beanstalk your running get the right kernel.
you will flash it just like you flash a rom, or more like you would flash the gapps. you don't have to start over flashing rom again, you are just flashing the kernel to it.
the reboots sound a bit off to me as if you are flashing completely clean, KK is very stable for me and most others. maybe try flashing rom twice as you can get 2 different reactions on 2 different flashes.
flash rom
flash rom again
gapps
boot and wait
reboot
go back and flash your kernel
make sure you get all your wipes in middle of all this.

you will flash it just like you flash a rom, or more like you would flash the gapps. you don't have to start over flashing rom again, you are just flashing the kernel to it.
the reboots sound a bit off to me as if you are flashing completely clean, KK is very stable for me and most others. maybe try flashing rom twice as you can get 2 different reactions on 2 different flashes.
flash rom
flash rom again
gapps
boot and wait
reboot
go back and flash your kernel
make sure you get all your wipes in middle of all this.

I followed your instruction with the kernel(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326786) Had to download it directly to my phone. It didn't like it from my laptop.
Successfully installed.
I'll let you guys know if my problem continues,

I flashed twrp with odin and now I can't flash most roms. (I managed to get an old cyanogenmod 10.1 to work). Not even my backup of my stock will work. I tried switching back to cwm but I get the same problems. sometimes it say they are invalid sometimes it say they aren't for my device(These are all roms I've flashed before). I've even tried new roms. Please Help Quickly!

You are not using twrp from the thread linked. Also do NOT use the twrp app for the recovery as my recovery is not found there. It can only be found in my thread. Flash it in recovery & you're good to go.

If you are using Beanstalk you should probably read the BeanStalk thread, both of these common problems (screen flicker and failure to wake) are solved with a Aroma package made by p0llution. You flash it in recovery and all is good. Link is in 1st post, right next to ROM link. You can also switch kernels and boot animations with same package.

As instructed, you need to do some reading. In my last post I gave you instructions on how to add kernel.
Help yourself first, then others will be more than happy to assist.

I'll give you some slack 'cause I am still close enough to my first flash that I remember being full of questions, but at least read the OP and most recent pages in your ROM thread. You should skim through it all ideally but some are 100+ pages so....
Kernel switching in general does not require any ROM action, there are likely cases that it might be useful but I've never had a problem. You will need to ensure that the kernel is matched to your ROM; KitKat or Jellybean or whatever. I usually do it as I flash a ROM but I have gone back and installed a kernel on a running ROM plenty of times; Uber for instance was released after I had BeanStalk up and running, it is a good kernel so I switched to that.
As a more general point the Note is hard to brick, as long as you don't somehow mess up the recovery (CWM or TWRP) you are just a quick restore away from back to normal. Use the backup function in your recovery, it is your friend and savior. Keep a copy of the back-up on your PC (or Mac) and you will usually be golden.

If you are on BS Rom you should know that all you need to to know is on the OP post-the rom and the patch. The latter contains about 5 different kernels which you can switch betw. to your hearts content. The patch is n00bie proof to make your switches. Really hit BS OP.

Just like all the other kind gents adv'd, it's all in patch's OP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535857
Including polluti0n's patches thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50529734&postcount=854
He uses aroma installer, so when you flash it (personally, I did it with CWM) you don't need to wipe cache/dalvik nor wipe phone, he mentons this on patch's thread while answering questions I believe. The screenshots show you some differences between the kernels he has available, either CM, Uber or PAC.
Personally, I'm using PAC since for me it seemed to work better with the Xposed's Netflix workaround, whereas it didn't work that well with Uber.
Also, the patch provides fixes, for camera, screen flicker and such.. Give it a try, and you'll definitely love your phone more!
