Alright peeps let's get this rolling. These forums are a mess, so from this day forward (3/3/2011), ALL releases, whether they are mods, ROMs, apps etc. MUST have their thread titles named as such:
IF YOU ARE RELEASING A ROM YOUR THREAD TITLE SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS:
[ROM][DATE] <NAME OF ROM>[Version][KERNEL]
•[ROM] of course meaning that your release is a ROM
• The [DATE] must be in the [Month.Day.Year] form. Example: [FEB.5.11]
• The <NAME OF ROM> is of course whatever your ROM is called. BE SPECIFIC.
• [Version] is the version of both YOUR ROM and the BUILD OF ANDROID. Again, BE SPECIFIC.
•The [KERNEL] tag is of course what Kernel your ROM uses. BE SPECIFIC.
An example title is as follows:
[ROM][FEB.5.2011]DESIRE HD MaXXX! 1.0 | Working Camera![v1.0 2.2.1] [MDJ S10.4]
This new thread naming IS A REQUIREMENT TO POST YOUR RELEASES WITHIN THE FASCINATE DEVELOPMENT FORUMS. If you do not adhere to this policy, your thread will be renamed without notice.
Depending on what type your release is, your tags may be different-IE instead of ROM, if you are releasing a kernel your tag should be KERNEL, and if you are releasing a mod your tag should be MOD. In example form:
[MOD][MAR.4.2011]Fascinate camera fix
[KERNEL][MAR.4.2011]Someone's new and amazing lagfix kernel!
Currently people are asking quite a few questions in the development section. Starting today (3/3/2011) any new question threads made in the development sections WILL be moved to the Q&A section without a redirect thread. DO NOT POST QUESTIONS IN THE DEV FORUM.
This post may come off as kind of hard, but it's meant to clean the forums up and help everyone out. For proof that this works, hit up the HD2 development forums.
If you have any questions about this new naming scheme, or concerns or questions in general, please do not hesitate to PM me or ask me in this thread.
This is all a work in progress, and if things need to be changed, we will change them as needed. Please bear with me as I try to sort this all out for the good of the forum.
These are the accepted and mandatory set of rules for the development forums. I am asking YOU the community what you think of them. I personally think that it has worked extremely well in the HD2 development section, and can see it working excellently here(as it already has), but if something can be improved please let me know.
Thanks-ashasaur
Woot!
This is very appreciated (both the naming convention and the crackdown on questions in the dev section).
I think there might be a little more developing of the naming convention though. The Fascinate dev forum doesn't have that many different roms, but lots of modular pieces.
Crack down on questions is nice, the naming convention I personally dislike. My 2cents.

I agree with this. All the tags make it harder to read and actually find what you want. Especially when things have been named the same forever.
I appreciate the input. This naming scheme was adopted in the HD2 development forums, and it seems to have worked wonders, so I am hoping it will do the same here.
Basically I want it to be so that you can scroll through the dev section and be looking for either a ROM, KERNEL or MOD, instead of having to read the entire thread title, or even go into the thread to find out that it wasn't what you where looking for the entire time.
This is all very much a work in progress, and if it doesn't work or needs to be tweaked we shall do whatever needs to be done for the good of the forum.

I agree, the tags will drive my eyes nuts. Not to mention I am not likely to remember to do it when I post things.
All in all, it might drive some people away (or it might not at all).
why not {[ROM]|[KERNEL]|[MOD]} [DATE] {[ALPHA]|[BETA][RELEASE]} <name>
All I think most are interested in is what the thread is for, when it was released, and if it's alpha/beta/release quality
A simple [ROM] or [KERNEL] tag is fine but when you have to do multiple tags in one title, its a little much.

Haha, do we have anything "release quality"? Even Samsung stock is released in the beta stage.
The date tag is subject to confusing issues with localization. The US uses MM-DD-YY, but many other countries use other permutations. However, there have been a lot of necro'd threads lately from waaay back, that contain harmful, outdated info. The date tag would help with that, at least.
At bare minimum, I find {[ROM]|[KERNEL]|[MOD]|[REF]} at the beginning and then a clearly named thread title to be helpful when trying to find something. If it doesn't have a tag, I usually overlook it and have to use the search.
Appreciate both the naming scheme and crackdown on questions!
Having the date first Sucks.
that should be last
it should be [ROM] [Version of software] [xxxx blah blah blah]
Your example doesn't follow your guidelines. What is the Android version?
Alright, I have updated the first post to reflect your guy's input. Tell me what you al think.
Thank you. This seems like a change for the better!
Shouldn't kernel releases also tell you what kernel they're based on? If it's a 2.6.32.* based kernel that means it's most certainly not usable in eclair.
What the actual label is could be up to you. It could be either what RELEASE the kernel is based on (DI01, DL09, DL30, EB01, EB16, etc.) or what version of android (2.2.1, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, etc.) or the kernel version (2.6.32.*, 2.6.35.*, etc.).
I think the first and last are the most descriptive, the first being the easiest for people to understand what ROM it would be compatible with.

I gotta lol on that one, that picture is awesome. And, I am not going to lie, the username "ashasaur" is a combination of two characters from Pokemon-Ash and Venasaur. I came up with this name waaayyyy back when I was 10-ish years old, and it has always just kinda stuck. It may be childish, but it's how EVERYONE on the internet knows me, especially through YouTube.
Why not start using a more legitimate methods for tags instead of cluttering up thread titles? I know there are all kinds of tagging plugins for vBulletin.
Currently, we have one: "Is this a question?" Heck, it even asks that in the development forum where we aren't supposed to ask questions.
Imagine a world where this very quick mock up became a full fledged, better implemented, prettier, more robust, and real-life version of xda:
THAT is an excellent idea...one wich I am not sure has been brought to the admin or not, and I suggest that you PM svetius about it. That would be a huge boon to the site, and I agree with you that all the info in the thread title is rather cumbersome, but it seems to help newer users find what they are needing.

Hi all, I'm Rolf, and have been appointed as the Forum Specific Moderator for the HTC Espresso forums.
I'm looking for your opinions on how things are going in here, and if there is anything I can do to help ensure that everything is kept tidy and in the right place.
So far I have moved around 30 threads from the Development section to Q&A. As there are a fair number of postings here, this is a work in process! I have also deleted a number of trolling/argumentative posts in the General forum.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that if you are going to post a new thread, please think first about where it should go, and please treat other members with respect.
Please feel free to post in this thread if you are having any forum related issues, or PM me if you prefer. If I can't deal with your problem it will be escalated for a Senior Moderator to deal with.
Remember this is your forum, and we all need to do our bit to keep it clean, tidy, and productive.

My thoughts are.... well, i've been thinking....
i mean, what was in my mind was....
oh what the hey, we need more themes for Espresso. I got them all from the t-mobile download site, but i need more!
This has nothing to do with anything does it.
Anyways, good job on the clean up! I've noticed that.

No, I'm a Desire owner. I'm not really here to answer device specific questions anyway, more to help keep things tidy and help members out where possible with forum related queries.
I already have knowledge of Android, and will try to keep up to speed with the Slide development.
I think the information is pretty well organized with the "rom bible" and what not but when it got to the rooting process I got kind of lost. Ive only done the G1 like a dosin times before this one so maybe im just used to it but I like the way it seemed like the g1 thread was layed out, but that it self seems like on a rom by rom basis..
Anyway I get lost all the time and I rooted/flashed my phone just fine using the site. So Thankyou!!

all kidding aside your doing a great job!
Hi forum.
I have been thinking about a thing.
As the hardware and software to some extention is similar in many phone brands, is there then some kind of a combined XDA effort to do the different tasks ??
It would be a shame if there over at eg. HTC Legend is sitting 200 NAND experts, or at Samsung S is 25 bootloader specialists.
Or if the best DES-crackers in the world only are reading HTC Desire HD.
So my question is:
Is there at XDA some kind of a combined effort, some form of sharing information?
Perhaps the XDA-Moderators could set up such a system if it is not here allready.
A system for us to combine the knowledgement of all devs here at xda...
So in fact mutch MUTCH more than you, who only use your time in the forum to play police...!
- we actually have people to do that, and they are doing it fine without you...

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.

Pretty sure x10 user is correct. I can't see that you are actually developing any software to improve our phones. And as to him playing police, get over it obviously you dont like being corrected. X10 user may be a little blunt with people these days, but when you have to keep saying the same thing over and over to different people it gets old. He may not be a mod, but this is the sort of self policing this forum needs to get organised.

Well, I see no problem with making threads like this, providing you are too stupid, simple, or purposefully annoying to use the SEARCH on this site. Or google. Either goes for such as simple question.
But when looking through the catagorys in the Hero forum... what does it take to ignore the "General" "Questions and answers" even "apps and themes" forums and head straight for the "development" forum, to spam your stupid, easily self answerable question that is clearly not anything NEAR development... on the forums that is reserved for DEVELOPMENT ONLY and clearly states this in one of the stickies on the top.
Are people like this created purely to annoy and frustrate others?

Seriously...
Open app drawer then go to settings and remove the "dots" which are to show running apps.
Also that is TW 4.5 if you search for it you will see the features/bugs etc for it.

You seem annoyed by my question. I apologize for owning my Android for all of 3 weeks and not being an expert on a rom that I just installed last night and not knowing every bug for TW 4.5. I'm sure every Android user that has used TW, including yourself, has made sure to read the bug lists fully before they interact each specific version, and I apologize for not doing that.
My complete lack of knowledge on all things Android is utterly embarrassing as I'm quite sure you had everything down pat after 3 weeks. It makes me feel bad that you had to waste all of 2 minutes of your time to type that suggestion, that actually ended up working. I'm very sorry sir, but thank you for the solution. I will try to improve my Android excellence over the coming years so you will never have to "Seriously..." answer a question on these boards again.

actually. it is an expectation that you read The entire OP before flashing anything or asking questions about it. Because most of the time your answer is already in the OP. and to start a new thread about something that is already answered elsewhere or right in front of your face is kind of ridiculous and creates clutter. If you don't want to read a little before flashing something you shouldn't flash anything at all. This is just some advice so that you can have a good experience around here on XDA.
Cool things to do.

I did read everything on the page of the rom that I flashed and saw absolutely nothing on the subject of red dots appearing over app icons. I also used TW with my stock rom for a couple of days and the dots never appeared either. I also did a forum search for "red dots" and "red dots over icons" as well as numerous google searches and nothing came up.
Honestly if answers to everything on this forum are supposed to be so simple to find (they aren't) and right in your face (they aren't)...then what is the point of this Q&A forum when the veteran members are just going to act annoyed and you're going to get told to "read the threads" (something I already did).
I can't even post in the rom thread since I'm a new member so this was my only option. I guess I will just apologize again for being an Android noob and apparently an XDA forum noob as well.
You can't post in Dev because you need at least 10 posts to do so, something a little reading would have told you and can be easily fixed by posting in the Off Topic forum to get your post count up. Everyone in here is a volunteer and this is not the Help Desk. No one owes you anything, so before you continue sounding like an entitled punk I suggest you count yourself lucky to have gotten the right answer and just move on.

Install ROM FXP129-CM9.0, then flash camera module.
Zdzihu has given us the module. So the camera can work on X10, with ics ROM 4.0.
For now, the default camera works, but still could not save the photo / image when used.
I've tried the test on multiple camera applications.
Most of them can be installed but still can save it as image / photo as used in the ROM FXP129-CM9.0.
If you want the camera to work properly, which can save the photo,
for now you can try one of the camera application market, "Vignete".
"Vignette camera", it works well on FXP129 ROM-CM9.0.
For the moment we can only use S-0.3 megavixel setting,
while the X-8.0-megapixel setting can not work.
Camera works fine on my x10. Rom FXP 129, the camera module of Zdzihu,
and application of market Vignete camera. I have tried it and it works well,
the camera can be used for day-to-day. It really works.
We share your desire for the camera work on ICS ROM for X10.
Flash Camera Module from Zdzihu:
Copy camfix_alpha1_zdz.zip on SD CARD
Flash it with Recovery

Thanks to fXP for Rom FXP129-CM9.0
OMG Amazing
Thanks a lot dude
i don't see the point of naming you topic "Camera fix, for FXP129-CM9.0" if you just gave us the link to Z's fix, which is an "alpha fix"
thanks anyways
I've used vignette app on various roms like feralabs and various other roms. Worked really well on the past roms until I used it on galaxy x10 SII port and its blurry as hell the stock camera is miles better full HD photos taken brilliant resolution FXP129 KERNEL cm7 based galaxy SII port of x10forever
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
What do you mean by "can't save photos"?
Here I took some pictures and they all can be found at Gallery.
Really great news, even it's not 100% righ now
but really glad to see someone make a start
Hope cm9 can be more and more better.

Well, I also didn't see the reason for this post, but I absolutely disagree with you, buddy.
Guess we have a completely different concept of "development". Development in my mind is the whole process: identifying, researching, gathering resources and knowledge, doing tests, and only at end giving results and solutions.
Sharing knowledge, experiences and problem's discussions in every point of view are VERY WELCOME in development section and completely suit us as community.

Yes, I also agree this particular thread is not necessary. I just disagreed with last affirmation and discussed it, is an interesting point to discuss in my point of view..

Let's suppose this was a thread/room to gather and share knowledge and advanced technical stuff about this particular module behaviour in a particular ROM, in order to make things go further and accelerate and help camera fix developers. May I ask if you think it would belong in general or here?
