hi,
i just thought this may help other users of galaxy ace to add ringtones and notification tones..
i just created this folders to my sd card and audio files are shown automatically to the ringtones and notifiaction tones. i am just new to this phone and tried everything for a few days with no luck, no application needed to add your favorite songs, tones..hope this will also work for you...
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ RINGTONES
and for the notifications...
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ NOTIFICATIONS
It works.....no apps needed....just create folders...
thanks bro!
Just an addition to the first post...
You can create a third folder for the alarms, the same way:
SDCARD/ MEDIA/ AUDIO/ALARMS
Put in the audio files you want, and you will be able to select them when configuring an alarm!
thanks for the info, but guys i have a problem, I downloaded a custom ringtone but its volume is too low compared to the preset ringtone the handset comes with. I already maximized the volume for the notification in the settings menu, can anyone help me. thanks a lot and more power to the forums.

You can try using this program, MP3GAIN, to boost up your mp3's decibels.
http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php
Or this app from Android Market..Volume+ (Sound Boost)
currently using this app for my boosted up mp3s using MP3GAIN. Results = LOUD
But works only on Gingerbread..
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.TEST.android.lvh&feature=search_result
Can't work out how to thank you, OP (perhaps I'm too new) - but, thanks!
Helped me too, finally... Just had to balance out ringtone with notification volume.
Thanks to both OP and Chikanoz
or maybe you can just install yourself a zedge app/Go sms
ADVICE
BUT it's better if you convert mp3 to ogg....
i've noticed if i use mp3, the sound takes a few seconds
Hit thanks button if i helped you
Yes..you need to make them OGG files. They are recommended

Yeah, I think I got an idea. Use ES File Explorer (amazing app!) and tap on the favourites tab. Tap on "/" and then go to to /system. From there go to media (/system/media/) and then audio (/system/media/audio/). From there you should find some folders. Alarms, notifications, ringtones and ui.
Quick heads up, I'm just going off of the way I transfered a notification tone from my Acer Iconia Tab A500 to my Samsung Galaxy Ace, so no promises
And if all else fails, I have to second and say use Zedge
notifications

There is an easy way. Got to "My Files" from menu, select "create folder" name folder, "Notifications" Copy whatever music you want from your SDcard, called, "external_sd" and paste into "Notifications". Your music will appear in the notifications ringtones list in "Sounds". Just select it.
Thanks so much, this has been an absolute godsend, I can use a tone I can actually hear for my reminders!
Then, yesterday it suddenly decided to stop working The dfault on calendar alarms went to on screen notification and the sound file I'd added had gone. I connected USB and it's still there, but doesn't show up in the list of ringtones any more.
Any suggestions? I'd be so greatful, I'm going to miss all kinds of appointments now I'm sure
all they need now is a folder for playlists which i'll try to implement into my new geared series

Greetings,
I searched but did not find any answer to how to change notification sound.
If there is a way i will appreciate it sharing it with me.
Thanks
Vatis
???
Settings -> Sound & display settings -> Notification ringtone.
If you want to add your own notifications and ringtones, create a "Ringtones" and "Notifications" folders on the SD card and put sound files in there.

The Skype notification sound is built into the skype app itself. The only way to change it is to decompile the skype apk using apktool, swap the sound files around, repackage it, sign it and push it back to your phone. Its quite complecated if you don't know what you are doing.

Thank you very much this method work perfect for changing the notifications tones
How do ya apply ANY tone ya want for say your alarm, or ring tone etc, when i try it just gives me the default ones, or i can choose from zedge, how do ya make it allow ya to browse for a tone that ya put on your sdcard???
On your sd card find folder named media inside you should see a folder names audio open it you should three folders alarms notifications and ringtones place your audio files in the appropriate folder. If the folders aren't there create them. They will then appear in your choices.

There is an app called Rings Extended in the market... Using that you can use ANY tones for ring/alarm/message from your SD card... with no time/size restriction
looks like some people r still having trouble with getting custom ringtones on mango.. it's simple..
ringtone file need to be:
1. wma/mp3 format
2. less than 39 seconds in length
3. less than 1 MB
step 1. get the ringtone file right
step 2. add it to zune collection
step 3. locate it in zune collection (in zune software). set it's genre to "Ringtone" (right click and properties will do)
step 4: sync with phone
u'r done. u have this file in the ringtones list.
this guide may be there in other threads. but since hd2 users r new in mango and tend to look for solutions in hd2 wp7 section, i thought posting it here might help. if mods think it's useless, pls delete it.
I just didn't found the Ringtone genre so I edited my file by a right click on it and change de genre to Ringtone, then added the file to zune, working fine
I searching how do you delete one ringtone you added?

Thanks a lot, I tried it in the alarm section but there whas nothig.
MP3s work too
I used MP3s, just made the genre "ringtone", sizes as you stated, then sent them with Zune. "Play that funky music" cranking out in a meeting when I get a call is awesome! I need to update my sig, using BTTF 7720.68.
I'm worked well with this way, thanks!
maybe sounds stupid, but how to add a track to zune?

just put the file in your monitored music folder (zune-> settings->collection)
and afterwards just plug the phone and let zune sync? and then it'll be found under settings-ringtones and notifications, right?
Connect your device to your pc and Zune will start synchronisation.
Go to your music folder, right click on the ringtone file, and then edit (bearbeiten), genre -> Ringtone.
After that just click and hold on the ringtone file and drop it in your device icon (bottom left icon).
Hey one short question is it possible to change the alert sounds or sms/email incoming sound.
Cheers
Has anyone put custom ringtones on their DVP? I've used several different audio editors and ringtone makers, changed the genre to ringtones/RingTones but nothing.
Drag and drop it to the phone and it shows up in songs instead of ringtones + sounds.

i've done so, but every time zune comes up with a message "due to a temporarily server problem blah blah blah" and the desired tone wasn't synced with other music the drag 'n drop works very well.
hey folks,
maybe it helps a bit to complain your files with my ringtones:
Ringtone Zip file unzip it and sync them with Zune.
I´m using Goldwave to cut and edit the Tracks.
Mp3tag to edit the ID3 tag.
And Zune to sync.
I'm new to WP7 mango. Unfortunately I dont like the low sound and microphone levels. I do love the variations of the bell sound ringtones. Does anyone know how i can extract the WP7 ringtones.... I would love to add them to my Android roms.
Any help would be great.
right size?

at least not officially. there is a write up about it under the general WP7 development but it is certainly not as straight forward and as easy as this is. maybe some day.

Genre needs to be: Ringtone or RINGTONE as opposed to your "Ringtones". singular, not plural mate ;-)
theres some ready-made tones out there on xda. Go looky looky here... summary upload of all ringtones on page six by guess who.... me lol
Hi, is there any way how to add my own notification rigtones (not phone ringtones)? I would like to change existing notif. tones (too short and silent to me) for new ones (for ex. music etc.). Is it possible if I dont have rooted phone?
Samsung Galaxy SII
Thx for advice.
Yes you can also this has been covered many time in the past.
Make a folder on sdcard called Notifications. Insert appropriate audio files into folder. Select notification tone in normal way. I think Ringtones and Alarms works too, I'm not too sure. I find there is a delay when using custom tones in that fashion, so I just whack 'em in /system/media

Thank you, worked perfectly for me.
Today I changed the notification ringtone with "Ringtone Maker" app from Google Play.
Then I deleted the sound file from sd card.
In Settings / Sound as "default notifications" is now: Unknown ringtone.
When I receive a TEXT message I hear a different version of Over the horizon. It is a little different than the original one.
In /system/media/audio/ringotones I found S_Over_the_horizon.ogg - but it's not this one!
Also it's not Over the Horizon from: /sdcard/Samsung/Music/Over_the_horizon.mp3
So my question is: Where this "default notification sound" is located in?
they are in /system/media/audio/ringotones
Notifications ringtones are under system/media/audio/notificatios not ringtones
It's not there, as I said:

There is not Over the horizon in system/media/audio/notificatios
It must be somewhere else... I checked all .ogg and .mp3 files on the phone, and didn't find that version of Over the horizon...
How can I check the location of currently SMS ringtone?
Lol for a folder with ringtones/notifications on your sd card
nobody knows?
Have you looked for a folder related to ringtone maker?

I have looked everywhere.
This is not Ringtone Maker's sound. It's a default Samsung's ringtone. It sounds similar to: S_Over_the_horizon.ogg but with a little different tone.
It must be hidden somewhere. I think it's in SecSettings.apk, but I can't open resources.arsc file in it...
