I migrated from a Droid DX to a Motorola Atrix and there is an important difference in external storage handling between the two devices that prevents me from optimally using several program, including Titanium backup pro and mybackup pro with the atrix.
Motorola has chosen to call the internal ROM storage area "SD card" and the actual SD card "SD Card Ext". TB allows me to backup only to the internal storage space which is far more limited in size than my actual SD external card.
Is there any way to redirect TB to backup/restore etc. from the actual SD card and not the internal storage motorola is calling the SD card?
I have contacted the tech support for both the programs listed above and have not heard back, but I am guessing there are many more programs that don't work with this new storage lexicon Motorola seems to have adopted with the atrix (such as the music/video/podcast services like isyncr, tunesync, doubletwist, etc.)
If anyone knows a workaround or something I'm not doing properly I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks

Thanks; I saw the backup folder name but had no idea it contained an actual file path. However when I use the folder above, TB FCs while starting? That folder does exists on my sdcard.
Make sure you spelled everything correctly.

It was a one time FC - the next time i went into TB it worked fine. Thanks again.

I'm trying to understand a feature of Titanium Backup that I can't figure out.
On their home page they advertise:
...
Move app to/from SD card
Move app data to/from SD card (needs ext2/3/4 partition)

So what are these features?
The first one, "Move app to/from SD card", appears to be just a front-end to the Froyo app-to-sd feature.
What I'm really interested in is the "Move app data to/from SD card" feature, but there is zero documentation on this as far as I can tell. I've tried playing around with Titanium but can't seem to find any way to enable it.
I have a number of apps that leave fairly large databases or other data in /data/data/[appname]/ and I'd love to be able to move these to the SD card. Neither froyo's app-to-sd feature nor link2sd moves this data.
Any idea about what this feature is and how to enable it?
I emailed Titanium support, and got back an answer that unfortunately didn't make much sense:
This is how Titanium identifies storages. If you have an ext partition, that is considered as your "internal storage" and the fat32 storage space is considered as you "external storage". So you can even use ext + froyo a2sd together.

Not quite sure what they are trying to say.
Here's how to do it
I managed to figure this out on my own, no thanks to Titanium support. (I like the product a lot but their support leaves something to be desired. And yes, I've paid for the Pro version)
Here's how to do it:
Your second sd card partition must be mounted as /sd-ext, and the directory /sd-ext/app must exist. Once these are in place, titanium backup will detect the partition and it will give you the option to move app data to the sd card.
This is a great feature for apps that create large databases in /data/data/[appname] that are not otherwise moved using either Froyo's built-in migration tool as well as link2sd, which moves the app & lib but not the app data.

My link2sd mounts sdext as sd-ext2, how can i make titanium backup work?

Any help?
I'm using Link2SD as well, on the Lg Ally. I'd like to move data/data to the sd-ext2 that I have, but no one answered the above poster's question so...any help?
So I got my 32 GB card today. I plugged in my phone copied my external sd stuff to a new folder, switched cards then copied the folder contents on to the new card. I also transferred some pictures from the internal memory to the new card. Now many of my apps claim to be not installed any more. I never did use anything like apps2sd or anything like that. I figured it would work for me to keep internal for apps and external for media.
Thoughts, ideas?

let me guess, you copied the files and folders with windows explorer? if so then you missed the hidden folders that start with a dot (.) which holds the apps that are/were installed to sd..
If u still got the old card and havent formatted it yet you can still copy them, just enable "show hidden files" in windows explorer (google it) and copy them.

Mac OSX. Still don't remember installing any apps to sd, unless the apps themselves did it. I don't have any directories, etc that I copied or moved that pertains to the apps

So I put the old card back and the apps are working, so that is good news. Next step is I am creating a disk image from the old card (disk utility ftw) and I will use that to restore on to the new one, making it a carbon copy.
Hopefully this works
Slow process!

Now that I have everything working again, I'll be sure to do a backup before I break everything. Since it's been a couple weeks since I did one, I am relieved that I didn't have to restore
What's the difference? Ever since coming to the rezound everything has been saving to mnt/sd and all of my old stuff is on mnt/sd/ext_sd. therefore my apps can't restore backups. This is super annoying. What can I do to remedy this problem? Thank you.
Sd is the internal and sd_ext is the external card.
Move from internal to external and set your apps to use external.
Setting apps to use external only works if the app itself allows it, correct?

That is correct
Yeah I've been having this problem too. Even though I copied my backups from the external to internal storage, the apps don't see the backup files. I even changed the location for the some of the apps to look at for the backup files for restoring and it still says no restore files found.
Hey there guys...
To start with i have my S3 two days now and i absolutely love this phone...:')
But,after installing lots of games my internal memory has gone full and i can't download any data in-game because i have low storage space...
My external sd on the other hand is around 10gb free but when i try to move the data to the same folder on the external the data isn't identified by the game and it asks me to download again?
It has become really frustrating,it seems i can't do anything about it...
Any suggestions to try?
Cheers,George
As the system now uses unified storage all apps will remain on internal memory; moving the data alone to an external SD card will have no use without altering the application to look for that location for its data. i.e. in the GS2 you had a move to SD option since the phone was partitioned. With the S3 however this option is not there which means that when an application is downloaded all of its information needs to be stored on the internal storage. When the "Move to SD" option was selected within the S2 or prior phones, it informs the application that its new location is within x folder rather than the folder it was originally downloaded too. Since this option is no longer there then the application has no way of being told where its new location is.
Maybe move to SD could be an add-on with a mod/hack but I am not sure if this is possible. Maybe check with a developer?
Have you got a prior Android phone? Maybe install the application on to it; use the "Move to SD" option and see if that will allow it? It's just a suggestion; if you don't have a different Android phone I can try it for you.
Edit: Just tried it; the phone itself doesn't even check for applications stored within an external SD. Sorry man - the only way around it would be a mod/custom/hack (if possible).

I did check for you; the S3 physically doesn't look for application data in the external SD (I edited original post after testing few things).. There probably are ways around it as mentioned but you would need to speak with developers for further insight.
If worst comes to worst application developers may have to implement a look in x location first, if no data found, look "here" in to their applications.
As the phone is unified storage you can store applications in the full ~12GB storage space (All the ones I have, have roughly 11.3GB after OS and all is on it) so have you used the phones storage itself for only applications; and the SD for media etc?
I am interested to know how you have managed to fill at least 11GB of space with applications; how many do you have? How is the performance of the phone with this many applications on it? Any lag navigating (I know there shouldn't be with quad core processor - but it's interesting to know if hundreds of applications cause lag between screen scrolling).
You can use an app called directory bind to link the game data on the SD to a mounting point on the internal SD. Search for it and you'll find it, not sure if I got it here or the play store.

Yup, there's directory topic on forum, as well as working 'gl to sd' app in play store. It is not just for gameloft games.

Thank you all guys!!
Well i filled it with lots of games that's why i don't have much space available!
No the phone is flying,it doesn't lag at all!
I use Dragon Ics rom and Siyah Kernel...no oc....
I'll try directory bind and post back soon!
To put applications on the sdcard, you could use symlinking (confirmed this works myself).
Install the application, then go to /data/app and move the apk file to your sdcard (/mnt/extSdCard) or inside a folder on your sdcard.
Then type ln -s /mnt/extSdCard/your-apk.apk /data/app/your-apk.apk
Hi,
I did a backup using Titanium Backup and Go Backup and after wiping my Motorola Defy, tried to restore apps, contacts etc.
The problems I encountered were:
1) Go Backup can't recognize backup directory on SD card for some reason.
2) Can't move apps to SD. An error occurs: "Move Application: Failed to move application. There is not enough storage left." Needless to say, I have more than enough storage.
This is was I encountered by far, although I believe these are just a small part of the symptoms for a single problem.
Maybe its because there are no permissions, or moving apps is impossible because of an existing app files on the SD card.
Does anyone know what is the actual cause for this?
Or is there a tool to fix the permissions on the Defy?
Thanks ahead!

Does it has to do with the moving app to the SD card?
And it seems I do have a little space for apps, but how should I check it anyway?
The easiest way is to run Link2SD -> menu -> Storage Info
This will show all the mounted partitions, and space used/free.

No idea?
I tried that:
1) Deleted the GO Backup directory
2) Removed the app
3) Re-installed the app
4) Copied back the backup from my PC
I could then see use the backup, but I still can't move apps to SD
Something must be jamming it
Can it be something with the mounts?
I haven't used Go Backup, so I have no experience with it, but it does seem that it's somehow involved/responsible. I noticed they have an update as of yesterday, so you can see if it makes any difference.
Have you tried putting your SD card into your computer? Does it function normally? Can you run a disk check on the card from your computer?

The problem is not with GoBackup, as it works now.
The problem must be with something jamming access to the SD card.
I tried to run a check from my PC and I get "No problems found"
And now, for some reason the phone activity crashes after I terminate a call
Well, all the applications I installed where installed using Titanium Backup.
While trying to install from Play Store, the device crashes.
It uses CM 7.2.
So it might be a permission problem in the device itself.
