[Q] tethering and mobile hotspot for canadian atrix owners - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

do you have to root and enable this mobile hotspot? i was looking at the fix in the root thread and it looks like you have to change apns but it seems like its only for att network. im thinking about buying this phone and using it on fido and wanted to make sure i can get this feature.

Try finding someone with a Nexus One using the same network as you are, then copy their APN........not sure if out will work, but thats basically what we did for the Atrix down here.

i have the fido apn, its fido.internet.ca
anyone here on fido or rogers that can test out mobile hotspot?

I'm on Fido and I have mobile hotspot working. This is posted from my computer connected to the Mobile Hotspot on the Atrix.

BTW, the AT&T version caps the upload speeds to .34Mbps - this is pretty bad for us on other networks. My wife's upload speeds can hit between 1.5-2Mbps, but on the Atrix are limited to .34Mbps!

you mean it doesnt have hsupa enabled?

did you have to do anything to get it working?

No, the AT&T version does not seem to have HSUPA enabled. Hopefully, the Bell one will.
BTW, I did not have to do anything to get it working. As long as you have set up the APN correctly for your carrier, you should be fine.

just curious what apn did you use?

I've used both the "internet.fido.ca" and "fido-core-appl1.apn" to test and both worked for me.

Network operator trouble

Hey, I'm running Z's free x10, and under settings, wireless, mobile networks, network operators. I occasionally get these three results:
AT&T, AT&T, T-Mobile.
When I hit T-Mobile, it says cannot connect, try again later. I am AT&T customer, so I can connect to them fine.
So the question is this: how can I use the T-mobile thing, and if not, why does it show up?
Also, I have already tried enabling "national data roaming" which should allow me to use other data providers in-country.
Any ideas/ suggestions?

Need a t mobile sim card XD to connect to t mobile band. Att phones only get edge on t mobile.
Well I couldn't even get that. Also, if I need T-Mobile sim card to use it, why is it in the list when I have at&t simcard?

One of the reasons you have it in your list is because from where you are sitting, your phone sees two good AT&T sources (towers, usually), and a T-Mobile source. I had that at work the other day, cuz I was fiddling with mine. I had three Rogers, two Bell, and a Fido.
Just pick your AT&T, and you're golden. Doesn't really matter which one - both should have all the standard APN settings for you to use your phone and mobile internet.

[Q] ATT Atrix in Singapore

Alright, I'm doing some travel in a while (going to Singapore, specifically). Last time I was there I took my unlocked Fuze and got a data-only StarHub MaxMobile Prepaid SIM, which worked fantastically.
I want to do the same thing with my (soon to be unlocked) ATT Atrix. Here's my question:
Does anyone know if Webtop and/or tethering work using an ATT Atrix on other carriers?
Thanks in advance.
If you have a tethering app and a correct apn, no reason it will not work.

If I did the entitlement check mod would I even need an app or could I use the built-in tethering? I guess I'll just find out when I get there?
are u on GB or froyo? I know that the froyo does not allow tethering. GB works fine.

[Q] Using 3G network instead of 4G on HTC One

I'm wondering if I'm the first guy on earth experiencing this problem.
I got an AT&T unlocked HTC One (M7) in the US and brought it with me to Brazil. I introduced the SIM card in it and it worked perfectly for phone calls. However, I can't get the internet access through the network. Brazil only works with 3G at the moment.
I called HTC and they told me to dial *#*#4636#*#* and change the settings for the network under "set preferred network". They told me there would be no guarantee this would work, but I should try.
I tried all the options from WCDMA, CDMA, GSM Only and so on and still could not get the mobile data access.
Right now, internet works only with Wi-Fi. So, he said that I could try finding help on XDA Developers.
So, is there anyone who knows what I should do next?
I wonder if rooting would resolve it, but it seems pretty much a device problem.

Make sure you have a 4G sim and make sure you are in a 4G area
But also, are youtalking about hspa+ or LTE?

Reply [Q] Using 3G network instead of 4G on HTC One
I'm not in a 4G area. Only 3G.
That's why I need to change the settings. I tried also setting the APN settings and nothing so far...

take the same sim card in some local 3g andorid phone in brazil and try again .to make sure your sim card support 3g network , and you say you can not access network by your phone. i doubt if you have a data plan .maybe you should take a phone call to your carrier to check the data plan of your sim card
Thanks for the tips. I solved my problem by calling the provider. It was ANP setting issue. I wasn't getting it right the way it was supposed to.
Thanks again!

4G is hspa+ ... it is a faster form of 3g but still it's 3g
4G and 4GLTE are not the same thing

Free MetroPCS tethering (APN mod)

If you are on MetroPcs and don't want to pay extra for the tethering, follow this guide!
Under settings>mobile networks>acces point names , add a new apn with the same information as your regular one (making a duplicate basically, just make sure the apn name differs).. but on the APN Type, make sure it says this : default, supl, hipri, dun
Basically just add the comma dun part compared to your regular apn . That's it! Now just make this your default apn and tether away with no hiccups on LTE. I'm on a family plan with my mom and i pay 55$ for my phone service monthly, TRUE unlimited everything on T-Mobile's network. Best pre-paid deal ever. Have been tethering for months with dozens of GBs tethered monthly without ever being capped or confronted about it by metro ha . Just my two cents!
What was your experience before this? I'm tethering now on postpaid T-Mobile with no changes at all.
Could we be canceled after tethering too much data?

I would get a metropcs splash screen on the browser of the device i was trying to connect saying i don't have that feature in my plan . This change bypasses it ... Is it included in your plan?

No, at least my personal experience ( I've tethered about 30-50gbs of data monthly with zero issues ) They don't care .
Roger. I have 3 gigs of tethering on my postpaid unlimited T-Mobile plan. I've tethered a few gigs the last few days and the ma.web.2go website still has me as the 2.1 gigs tethered I had used before swapping my sim from my T-Mobile Note 2.
Nice then ha, i noticed also that my previous data usage was wiped when transferring my metropcs sim onto the HAM2 . This device plays along well with both USB and Wifi tethering .

That's just what pull from phone usage, no tethering.......I once read someone tethering 100-200gbs from metro pcs. I might just stick with TWC for home internet lol

ok, I followed step by step your guide, but when I switch ON Mobile Hotspot to run the wifi tether a popup screen show up and ask me to upgrade my service, then I click on upgrade, open the browser and send me to http://mpcs.me/hot5/ , they want me to put my ph number and pin to confirm. Am I doing something wrong or metropcs fixed this to stop people?

hmm maybe try a user agent switcher if you are on a chrome. i had to do that and changed it to a safari user agent (Chrome app store-search user agent switcher) ...maybe attach some screenshots of your apn to see if you did everything correct?
Hi, would this work on a metropcs gsm samsung galaxy avant, phone, newly activated, locked, no root. Do i just add a new apn to match the metropcs one and add ",dun" to the apn type?
When I have turned on portable hotspot on my mate2, I have never had a metro popup on the devices I'm letting connect. I have the CC varient with B148 firmware if that makes a difference. Never had to do an APN mod and its been working fine. No tethering paid for
Time to try this. I've been averaging 30-50 gigs tethered a month on postpaid T-Mobile with no mods or problems at all. Now it's still working but it's counting data tethered.
Edit-no data at all. Any advice for doing this on T-Mobile?
Edit 2- rebooted my phone, no more tethering data used since. I hate electronics...
This continue working or not
Sent from my SM-G386T1 using XDA Free mobile app
It's still working for me, i am on metropcs though.. I am not sure if this mod works with postpaid t-mobile.. Like stated before, you might need a user agent changer if you are tethering to a non-mobile device (ex laptop, pc)

I am not sure, doesn't hurt to try. You can always go back to the old apn settings.

Did it work for you? Bit confused ha
What's happening now is that only a small percentage of my tethering usage is being logged. I don't know why and haven't figured out what usage is tripping it.

Try it and let us know. If it doesn't work let us know.

What phone are you using. In using the ham2 and it works fine. Did you create an exact duplicate of the metro access point, follow the instructions for the changes and then select it?

Unlocked T-Mobile LG V10 switched to AT&T, but LTE does not work

Hi, I have an LG V10 that I purchased from TMOBILE. I switched to AT&T, and brought my T-Mobile device with me. Everything works fine, but I cannot get 4G LTE service at all. I have tried 2 APN settings, and that does not help. I live in a large metropolitan area, and I know that 4G is available here with AT&T. Does anybody have any idea why I can only get 4G and not 4G LTE?
Thanks!
This happened to me when flashing a custom Rom, the fix for me was to change the network speed to 3g or 2g then keep changing Ap's until you see you are connected to a network. Once you see that you are connected, change it back to 4gLTE. Let me know if this worked for you.
This is the APN I use and got LTE to work. It's old APN but it works for me.
Name-LTE
APN-phone
proxy, port, username, password-Not set
MMSC-http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy-proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port-8080 (In order for MMS to work with adblock plus, I use 8080 instead of 80 because using port 80 will cause the MMS not to work)
MCC-310
MNC-410
Authentication type-Not set
APN type-default,mms,supl,hipri (hipri is what makes LTE to work. Without using "hipri" I only get 4G, not LTE. No need to use "fota". It is for tablets)
APN protocol-IPv4
If changing to this APN setting and you still don't get LTE, reboot the phone.

Wow, i was thinking i was the only one with this wierd problem, i had a lg g3 tmobile with this issue, when i was on wifi for large periods and the back to data, the 4g lte appears like it was working fine, but it never gave me access to inteternet, then i had to revert to 3g or 2g, and when it connects and works, i revert back to 4g lte and works fine, until i get wifi, and the same all over again, but this only happen to me with lg on tmobile, i had htc, samsung and this problem does not seems to happens with that brands, so i tougth it was the lg g3 itself and i sell it, but now i get a brand new v10 with tmobile and the problem is still the same, and i don´t find anything on the internet about it, until i see this post, do you know why is this happen? im on mexico, and i use my phones whit telcel

when i hit the apn unlock option appears a message that tells me: "apn has been unlocked" or something like that, but the phone stills the same, do i have to do something else besides manually enter apn settings from my operator?
A word of advice I have an unlocked t-mobile lg v10 and I have had the same issue as you and believe me I tried every possible fix and nothing worked until I tried this fix ( put your sim card in another AT&T device in my case my girlfriend has an AT&T iphone 6 and leave it for a minute or 2 once you see the 4G LTE on that device remove it and put it back into your phone and you will have the 4G LTE all the time, of course you need to set up your apn but like I said I spent a whole month and tried everything before I came to that fix because nothing else worked) I hope that would help you.
I totally switched iphone 6 SIM on unlocked LG v10 ,,,but i saw LTE for 5sec and then back to 4G ...
Don't know if it will work ..
Just a network access problem, you should save yourself some time and just.... Call AT&T customer support?
Or hit the AT&T V10 forums for correct APNs. I'm sure you aren't the first person to deal with this issue.
Yes u can have 4G LTE ...just activate with a AT&T 4G LTE IMEI

i have the same senario...recently moved to AT&T with the UNLOCKED Tmobile LG V10 and every thing works just fine with AT&T SIM except no 4G LTE and when you asked At&T they will try to convince you to buy their device to get 4G LTE signal....it took me a while to figure it out that u can get 4G LTE on an unlocked LG V10 if u activate the service with any AT&T 4G LTE capable device IMEI..... One more thing.. u are on your own to provide the LTE capable IMEI to customer service. That means don't except to walk in to AT&T store and borrow the IMEI from their display unit..coz they wont let u do that.....
The T-mobile phones pick up perfectly on ATT, it's most likely an APN related issue.
