Remove Facebook Link in App Drawer - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For security reasons, I have deleted my facebook account. If I (even accidentally) go to my facebook page in the next 14 days, the account is re-activated.
I am running stock Tapn'Tap, with the last update (3588), rooted and market installed.
I noticed a facebook icon in the app drawer. Unable to locate a facebook app anywhere on the system, I then found that it is actually a link that opens the browser to facebook. Since I do not intend to ever use it, I want to remove it.
Anyone have any insight? I have looked, and can't seem to locate anything. Keep in mind that I am not using a custom ROM, but am stock.

Root, remove app/link then unroot!

Titanium Backup,You could force remove apps, or freeze them.
Freezing will prevent it from showing up in the app drawer.

Uhmm?.. Ok you could root your device using z4root and still keep your stock OS on there.
Then, with Titanium Backup,You could force remove apps, or freeze them.

Afterwards, you can unroot your device with the z4Root, But I don't know if it would actually unroot because I have never tried that feature.

I think that you need to re-read my original post more carefully.
1) I am already rooted
2) Facebook is not an app, but a link that opens the browser to the facebook page.
I also have Titanium Backup installed, and it is not in there either. I also have root explorer (paid version) installed. That is how I was searching for it.

Isn't that just a browser bookmark?

I also want to remove the facebook icon (which is in fact a link opening the brwser) because it is somehow broken. I cannot login with my HannsPad via the icon. I already tried a new passwort and checked with a second facebook account, the browser does not allo me to log in. I can login with the same acoounts from my computer at the same time! So I want to remove the link from the screen and install the apk. app which runs fine.

[Q] 'Disconnecting' apps from Android Market - Market Link?

Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been covered, I did plenty of searching without finding what I was after.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
My question is, how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
For reference, I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Thanks.
Hey Guys,
So no body knows how to delete the link between app and Android Market so that the Market no longer knows it's installed?
Or am I best copying the app somehow, uninstalling it and then side-loading it?
Thanks.
Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market
I added (Pro) because I'm not sure if it works on the standard version or not..which I'd highly recommend getting the pro version if you don't already have it.
Awesome thanks for the tip, I didin't know there was an extended menu if I long-pressed an app in Ti Backup.
Though once I long-press, 'Disconnect' is greyed out. And in fact, all my apps have this greyed out (And I do have pro), yet they all show in Android Market?
'Force Attach to Market' doesn't seem to do anything either.
Weird, I'm able to Detach the market link of both /data and /system apps - some of which I do and do not have backups of.
I'm not sure if this will really do anything, but you can always try using the "market doctor" to find missing market links, then see if you're able to remove the link that it finds. But to be honest, I'm not really sure that will do the trick nor do I have any clue why that option isn't available to you
Only other thing I can think of is to clear the market's cache/data:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Market
click force stop then clear data & clear cache
If they're both blanked out, just use TiBackup to wipe the market data.
After all that, see if you're able to Detach the Market Links
Hope this works

Thanks for the help.
Looks like clearing the data from the Market app (as you described) has allowed me to detach my apps from the Market through Ti Backup now.
That's not how I managed to do it though. I did it a far more complicated way!
I made sure I had a backup of the app, then uninstalled it.
I then browsed to the Titanium Backup backup folder on the internal SD card, and found the *.properties file of the app in question.
Long press on it and opened it in Text Editor.
I then deleted out every line that started with 'market.'
I then saved it, and Ti Backup automatically creates a backup of the original file.
Then I restored the app.
But to get this process to work, I also had to clear the Market app data (as per your tip).
Did I mention complicated!

Not sure I'll get a reply on an over a year old thread but worth a try. I tried this method but didn't work for me. When restoring the app did you restore data also? Thanks.
I'm still here!
The app I was trying to disconnect from the market I don't think had any real data to restore, so I don't think I was restoring data as well, no.
I'd say both the Market (now Play Store) and Ti Backup have changed a fair bit since this post. Ti Backup does have the ability to detach apps from the Play Store, if you find it in the app list and long press it will show the option. Some apps I think won't detach, and it could be because they're linked to your google/gmail account (for certain permissions or whatever). If they remain linked to that account, then I guess the Play Store still thinks it's installed on the phone (because it is).
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Thanks for the reply. The app I wanted to break from the market is Business Calendar Pro that I bought a while back. The new updates don't work with the ROM on my phone so I wanted to stop the updates. I have MyBackup Pro and it has an option to break the market link but doesn't work. I haven't bought Ti Backup but use the free version. I don't want to buy it just to find that it won't work. I don't think Biz Cal uses google data but it does us the built in calendar's data so that might be why I can't break the link. Oh well. I'll keep trying different options. Thanks again.
Hi, not sure if this will do the trick but you could try extracting the APK for the app (not sure if TiB can do it or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extract.apk) And then uninstall the market version and side-load the extracted version. I have a feeling it may not work as sometimes when I've side-loaded beta versions the released version has shown up in the Play Store as installed. When I try and uninstall it from there, the Play app tells me the app wasn't installed from Play and gets me to confirm uninstall.
I guess that's the long way of saying that the Play Store app must be using some mechanism to detect apps installed on the phone, even if not from the store.
Thanks again but the market seems to keep the data linked somehow. I'll keep trying different scenarios I guess...
did you find any method that work?
Honestly I haven't had time to mess around with it this weekend, but I'll keep up on the research and post here if I find something out. Thanks
Titanium Backup is not working for sure, at least for now, maibe they'll fix this sometimes!

We are aware of the detach apps not working. This is mainly because of the recent upgrade from google market to google play. We are working on it but Google Play is really stubborn! We need your help to "star" this post so that it comes into notice by Google

Also tried Rom Toolbox, still nothing
Yea. I figured that. Glad I didn't buy either to try them. thanks. It sucks but will have to deal with for now I guess.
found a fix
Hey. So I was looking around some more and found an app called "market fixer" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer&hl=en
It seems to scan apps that aren't linked to the market. The other thing it does, if you "scan all links", is give you all your market links which you can then select and "delete market link"
I check and it works. Also some reported it stops working on reboot, but mine worked fine. The app does warn that it will need to be reapplied if market data is cleared. Just wanted to update you and hopefully help anyone else with these troubles
Hi. I just gave this ago and worked very well. Thanks for finding that out and sharing.

Glad it works for you too. Take care.
easiest way is to just run batch mode in titanium there is an option yo detach user and system apps from market
edit: i use pro version btw and works for me jus fine
update
update on market fixer. I guess if you clean google play cache it relinks also. easy enough for me to use market fixer before I "update all" though so no prob for me.

Remove apps from "Not Installed" in Market

When I load a new ROM and need to reinstall my apps there are usually a couple I don't want to install. Is there anyway to remove them from the "Not Installed" under "My Apps"? It seems like since I once downloaded and installed an app, it will always be there.
If I can't remove them, then I can't use the bulk install option and have to manually start all the installs.
use apps that on market. remove all cache.
Can anyone answer the OP's question?
I have the same issue, except that with telling your ROM to restore from your google account it installs all the apps... But there are apps that I don't want to have installed anymore.
It's very annoying.
So is there a way to remove apps under your account/from the NOT INSTALLED section of "My Apps" in the Market?
There is no way.
It's an issue that's been raised a thousand times on the Google Help Forums. Best thing is to add your voice to the many others there, and hope Google take notice one day.
I did... sent an email through Google app support ... doubt it will do much though. Got an automated confirmation but that's about it.
Sent from... you don't even wanna know.
What's extra annoying is my epic 4g insists on keeping TeleNav, NASCAR, Football and Media hub under Not Installed. I removed them from the phone so the should be 100% gone. How can market see an app when its apk has bee removed?
I've also broken the market link to several apps with titanium backup, and somehow market reattached itself to them and tried to update them. $^*^*(# Google, NO MEANS NO! What happened to not being evil?

[Q] Adding 3rd party apps to home / Android market

I mainly plan to use my NT as a reader, but I am interested in adding Kindle / Amazon App Store / Android Marketplace just to have the access. I've been successful except for 1 thing.
I'm not interested in a special launcher as 90% of my activity is going to be straight from the NT home page. What I'm wanting to do is put shortcuts to the third party apps on the stock NT home page. Before you say it, YES I've read the FAQ.
The FAQ directs me to get "Nook Color App Manager" from the Android Marketplace. 2 questions:
1 - Android market won't let me D/L anything. I login fine with my Google account info, but it tells me there are no Android phones associated with my login and refuses the download. I can see the app on the screen, but can't get it. How do I get around that since I don't have an Android phone??
2 - I've read that with the newer versions, the app manager isn't going to allow me to put shortcuts on my home screen anyway. Can someone confirm or deny if this functionality still works? I'm on rooted 1.4.0 by the way.
Thanks all!
~Vol
Try clearing the data and cache for the market in app management. That should get it to show up.

Not sure I understand what you're htelling me. Clearing the cache should get WHAT to show up?? Market won't let me download it. Tells me there is no phone associated with my google account.

I believe clearing data & cache in the Market app will force your NT to re-associate with Android Market.
I believe that is one of your aims.
It didnt work. I'm logged into the Android market through the web browser and my gmail account. Is that right, or is there a standalone app for the NT? When i click the web d/l link on the app I want, a popup comes that says something to the effect of "there is no Android phone associated with this account. Please sign in with another account."
Does that make sense?

It would assist others in helping you if you would differentiate between using the NT or your PC. (Both platforms have browsers and can access a Google account.)
There is a stand alone app for your device "Android Market". I believe it comes in the gApps package when using Indirect's root method.

Depends on if you are using the "Market" app or a web browser.
OK. I think I got it now. I don't like having alot of extra "stuff" on my NT, so I only used the root script to do the root and declined everything else. i went back and let the Gapps install, and it seems to be working now. Sorry for not be clearer in my original question, but all is well now.
Thanks again!
@Vol4Ever
Glad you got it working!

Market issue : not showing my apps

Please help me on this.....
So here the problem : As you are aware many times this problem seems to "popup" from Google Servers I mean "my apps" tab simply doesn' show your apps and gives just a white page with "Apps" and Games buttons telling you that "here will appear account applications" or something like that.
- freezing and wiping all Market and Google framework related apps with totally unlinking user apps from the market simply give you 2 seconds of happiness listing all your installed apps but after few moments the problem is there again.
- data format, fresh reinstalling OMEGA rom or other 2.3.6 rom seems to give the same result : signing up with my account (without any apps installed) gives the list of applications but installing just one and the problem face off.
- trying to reinstall my old backup of stock (not deodexed) 2.3.4 roms seems to give the list back and stay there.
So basically my stock original rom works (2.3.4) the other deodexed 2.3.6 seems to have this problem with my account.
Another thing I have seen is that if I unlink all my apps from my account seems to not work (also wiping data of market app) and if it does (resetting my account e signing back) after a while the list from "uninstalled" became "installed" so it seems that google automatically get the installed apps from my phone and link them.
No Idea.
Hope it will fix itself as other user reported time ago.
Alex
Download market fixer, see what apps are causing the problem and tjen just temove them or unlink from the market
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Might sound silly but if you use multiple Google accounts with your device make sure that you select your default one through the market.
I was going mad for awhile myself until I spotted this so hopefully it is nothing more.

Talk system app, can move to hangouts

I think google talk is a system app so hangouts app says its installed when its the old talk app. Any ideas? Would need to flash a rw kernal to remove.
i figured out a trick to install it, Went to play store in web browser of PC and clicked install and picked phone. Icon still shows as talk app but opens as hangouts app.
Another update, removed from a dock folder back to tray and then it turned into hangout app, moved back into folder, all is well now.
