[Q] Problems downloading older CWMs ROM Manager 3.01.0 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone figured out how to get past this "An error occurred while downloading your recovery." I have a older CWM.tar version that works but doesn't seem to hold as everytime I do it and then I reboot into recovery it reverts back to the lastest Orange version. Please tell me that somebody really knows what to do!!

I tried numerous times to get it to downgrade in Rom Manager but it never worked. What I did was delete every "update.zip" on my sdcard (I had several from all of the newer, improved versions coming out). I then unistalled Rom Manager (you can reinstall it later but its really not of any use to us right now....and if you do, don't flash a new recovery yet). Then I got Jt's CWM-Recovery-All.tar file and flashed i in Odin.
Hope that helps.

I'll give this a shot tonight when I get home. Is there anyway to boot into cwm without going through Rom Manager??

A couple of ways. If you've installed a theme most of the ones we have now have custom shutdown menus. These are nice and make it very easy. If not, you can still just turn your phone off, hold the vol+ & vol- and power button down and when SAMSUNG name comes up release the power button.

Hey That worked for me after using Odin to get JT's version of CWM on my fascinate. Thanks!!!!

Hey no problem. Glad I could help.

help, just flashed new rom and won't boot!

looking for some assistance here...
in regards to upgrading to chingy's 1.4 perfect storm ROM....
i flashed the new radio and had no issue, booted up fine and everything was ok.
i put the new 1.4 on the root of the sd and rebooted into recovery, performed factory reset, cleared cache's etc. and installed the rom from the zip. everything seemed like it was going perfectly smooth.
phone rebooted the first time, got the energy star screen and boot up sequence... Thunderbolt logo screen came on and it took a very, very long time before it just rebooted itself (probably 10 mins +).
now, it just boots up to the posting screens, energy start logo etc. goes to
Initialization finished........
Activating root access SUCCESS!
Beginning Andriod 2.2 boot sequence.........
Enjoy your HTC Thunderbolt
and just sits there....... been 10 minutes now --- any advice on what I can do?
I tried battery pull and reboot, stops at same place...
Thanks so much!!
background, i was on 1.1 prior to this update.
could of been a bad download. did you check the md5 of the file. I would download again and reflash.
You can try reflashing with the current download you have, if it dont work, redownload and flash again..
how can i get to a menu to flash again?
it just boots to the "Enjoy your HTC Thunderbolt" and sits there... I tried connecting through adb but the computer doesn't recognize the device since it hasn't booted up far enough.
power off the phone then hold power and volume down and it will boot into the phones white recovery, then in the menu select recovery to get back to clockwork recovery
(if power & volume down dont work then try power & volume up)
It is volume down. Once in recovery, go to mounts and partitions and mount USB storage. Plug into a pc, download the ROM, move it onto your card and then unmount, wipe, and flash.

ok, thanks for the quick replies so far, you've got me able to flash again... i restored to a backup and tried flashing the required radio for chingy's 1.4
1.13.605.7 CDMA-LTE radio combo
However, after successfully flashing and booting back up, going into software information, the Baseband version still says 1.16.00.0402w_1
and my software number is 1.12.605.6
is this the radio flashed correctly? i was thinking the baseband version should be different...
any thoughts?
i don't want to try and flash 1.4 again until i know the radio is updated correctly....
you have the right radio and
the update software itself is 1.13.605.7 but the info was changed to protect the leaker of the update. The software will come up with the stock info,
well it appears it was a problem with chingy's 1.4 apparently. i tried it 3x and the same thing happened each time. MD5 was confirmed on all 3 attempts.
i flashed dasbamf 1.5 and it worked perfectly...
guess i'll be using this one for now
thanks for the help!
It's not the Rom I just flashed to my bolt and works fine so far

There is no problem with that rom or the file. Don't make claims like this unless you have proof to back them up.
Try flashing a different kernel... He is using a very undervolted kernel and it sounds like it doesn't play well with your phone... Try one of adryns kernels and it should work for you... I use ps mainly cause of the 4x5 but bamf is good also

I've had this problem before as well...try doing another factory reset after flashing the Rom, it might get you up and running.

Can't get into recovery.

I can't get into recovery. I flashed community rom 2.0 with the ed01 modem. The phone will start, and it will even show the launcher and a bunch of icons. Then it vibrates really fast three times and restarts. It will do this until I remove the battery. When I re-insert the battery to try and get into recovery (3.0 RED) I am unable to get in. Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it? I used odin for the .tar from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 but I still cannot get into cwm. What do I need to do to get into CWM? Nothing happens if I hold Volume down and the power button, it just starts the phone, and then restarts.
Did you flash a new kernel as soon as you odin'd recovery? If not that's why you can't get to recovery cause as soon as the phone boots with the stock kernel it will over write whatever you just odin'd
I'm not home right now but if you can reply with some base info I can help...what rom and kernel are you on now, and what are you trying to go to...let me know that and I should be able to walk you through what you need to do to get rid of your boot loop in a lil bit

Well, I flashed the community 2.0 rom with the included kernel. Ontop of that, I flashed the 2.1 patch to it and that is when the problems started happening.
UKB 2.0 with OTB 1.5 Voodoo Kernel
md5: 5118f303b7b32c080c1a7331ca34b936
Hmmm...I had some issues with ukb 2.1 also..not the same issues but it was enough to make me flash back to 2.0 until cm7 is complete! if you were able to get comm romm on there then at least you how to flash...use odin and what not...what I recommend is to go to the development section look at the stickies...there is one that lists all current roms, kernels, mods, and recoveries...it was written by nitsuj...I may have the spelling wrong on his screen name..but in that post there are links to newer recoveries...some you can flash, some you have to odin. I would odin one of the 3.x.x. Ones...i used the red one from otb..but I have also had good luck with the one by times infinity also. Try one that you have to odin...boot right into cwm via three finger salute..if that works..i would reboot..and try going into cwm again to see if it stuck...if not I would re odin recovery and then re flash your comm rom file right over with out wiping and see if that will get it to stick...if not then I'm not sure what to try...hopefully someone smarter than I will have the answer you need...good luck!

Hellraising Mistakes

Hello all, introduced myself the other day, I'm new to the Galaxy SII and have had it only a few short days. And already I've managed to screw it up! LoL. No really what I made this thread for is to let people who may have done the same thing I've done that there is a solution. Here's what I did. Download the VillainRom and the Hellraise MOD from the development section. I put them both on internal SD card, rebooted into clockwork mod recovery, and flashed Villlain ROM. After that, I was SUPPOSED to flash Hellraiser so it would be compatible with the I777 since it's an international version ROM. But I was talking to my son at the same time and FORGOT and let it reboot and boot up into VillainROM. I was at this point very worried, as I thought a bunch of errors would occur. But not a bunch did. However I knew this wasn't good and tried immediately to reboot into recovery, wipe, and redo the process PROPERLY. Except when I rebooted, it rebooted me into clockwork mod recovery 4.0 version. Now, at this point, none of the capacitive buttons or the power button would select anything. It just showed the Clockwork Mod logo when I clicked on anything to wipe, reboot, anything. SO, here's what I did to fix this mistake. I download the clockwork mod recovery .tar that is flashable with Odin (the one for I777), rebooted back into VillainRom, put the phone into Download mode, and flashed it. Then I let the phone reboot, and then rebooted a second time into what I HOPED would be the correct version of CWM. And thank God, it was. However, the capacitive buttons were STILL not working correctly. The answer? They DO work, however, they are out of order. Different buttons do different things but if you figure the order out you can wipe and flash back to a ROM for our device. I just wanted to post this, in case anyone else messed up like I did.
edit: It did not, however, change the Boot Logo from thinking I'm running the international version. That still says i9100

You could have just flashed the stock ROM though Odin. That would have fixed everything and given you a fresh start but that's up to others to decide.

You DID read the first post for codeworkx's CWM kernel for the button mappings, right?
IF you had CWM 5.x after flashing his tar, it did correctly flash.
Also, all you have to do now is just flash hellraiser - should be OK even after booting VR normally, although NFC might flake out... I haven't tested what happens if you flash hellraiser after /data is created

Power Button Dead

Hi Guys,
Last night for some reason my GT-19100T running CM9.1.0 wouldn't lock by pressing the power button, the button itself seems to be working. I can press the button down but nothing happens. I left it for the night and came into work this morning, I thought it might be a bug with the rom, i managed to boot into recovery via the "Rom Manager" app and was going to flash to CM10. My problem is now that i am in recovery, I can't select anything as the power button is not working. I can scroll through the recovery menu with the volume buttons but cant select anything, and now soon as the phone turns on after removing the battery, it goes straight to recovery mode and i cant get around it.
I have tried leaving the battery out for about 3 hours and same thing. I can boot into download mode, But at the moment that doesn't help me.
Any suggestions on what i can do? I'm not worried about warranty so i may pull the phone apart and clean it tonight. Thanks in advance.
Update:
After much playing around with the button i can get it work, it is very temperamental and requires to be pushed in the right way. Was able to flash with Touch recovery and am now updating to CM10 nightlies. Thanks all for your help on my first post.

Hi!
First, have you tried flashing a stock firmware? If that does not help, you can try cleaning your hardware.. it may be dusty or something.. be careful! I hope you get this sorted out.
Also, i hope my suggestion will help you out, cheers!!

I am currently flashing back to xxlpq via odin and see if that changes anything. Will post back with results.
Thanks.

Okay, Flashed back to stock ICS rom, Got a little bit further but still no go. It gets the "S" loading screen and stays there, Still cant do factory reset via Android Recovery as it also needs the power button to select. Someone suggested installing CWM touch recovery but i cant find a .tar version of "recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.5-galaxys2" downloaded from CWM website. Any suggestions on how i can install this without using recovery? Thanks.

I guess you have to flash them with odin..
1. Flash a stock firmware to get you out of bootloop
2. Flash the latest siyah kernel cause it's a touch recovery via odin as well
Do you want me to post the links or will you find it yourself?
I hope this helps, cheers!

When trying to flash ROM... It is stuck on the Reboot Screen...HELP!

Hi there,
I tried to flash a new rom and it some how is stuck on the reboot screen.
Any help in what to do, would be great!
Thanks!
Pull the battery, put it back. Hold button combo to boot to recovery. Flash the ROM again but do not wipe. Reboot and you should be good.
FFR please list which ROM you are coming from and the ROM you are flashing.

Thanks, for your help!
I ended up taking out the battery, and then rebooting it, and it went to the Recovery mode.
I actually did wiped everything all over again, like you were doing it from the start originally, and it seemed to work fine.
I cant even remember what I was coming from, I had it on my Phone for almost two years, and it was old and the battery life was terrible.
I tried RemlCS-JB its not bad, but I think I am going to try another one. Any suggestions? I have been away from this forum for over a year, so anything recent with good battery life and good GPS is ideal.
The rom did not seem to come with an app downloader such as google play, or Clockwork manager.
Anyone know how to get into reboot recovery mode without clockworkmanager?
When I try to download clockworkmanager online it does not let me really download it.
When I try to install a new Auxura rom it states the following:
It says Installation aborted
Above that, it states please switch Edify scripting
Anyone know, if I have to do something else? I am just doing a normal Clockwork Flash.
I wiped the data/factory set, then tried to install the rom

Did you Odin back to stock before trying to flash a ROM that is a previous version of android? It could cause a lot of problems if you don't Odin back to stock first!
Did you flash gapps on the ROM that you said was missing apps etc?
Gapps is a package of Google apps that devas can't include in the ROM.
I wouldn't use ROM manager, in most ROMs, there is an option to reboot to recovery in power menu. You can also power down and use button combo to boot to recovery.
I highly suggest reading through some of the dev threads for any ROMs you are interested in. It will answer most of your questions and prevent future issues.

Oh yeah, it said to flash GAPPS after, but I never did. Where do you get GAAPS?
No, I dont even have ODIN installed on my computer and all of those drivers, so It is something I do not want to do.
It has been 2 years since, I switched, so I randomly flashed to this new one, but I want to try a different one, but seems to get an error.
Ill try a few other roms to see if they work though.

You can get the gapps from the op of the ROM thread or go to www.goo.im/gapps
As far as Odin etc
If you are on an ICS or JB ROM and want to go back to a froyo or GB ROM, you need to odin to stock first.
General rule of thumb, you can flash up but to flash down, Odin to stock first.
