Remove Carrier text from streakdroid 1.8.1 - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Hi,
a lot of people wants to change their carrier text.
But they don't wont to edit their framework, because they think it is to complicated....
I made a zip with a framework integrated, where the carrier name is removed from the lock screen (only the default lockscreen) and the statusbar. Also in the expanded statusbar the carrier is removed and reseted by "Have a nice day!" --> just have a look at screenshots
When you have no services the text wouldn't change in the expanded statusbar.
it is only for streakdroid 1.8 /1.8.1 and you do this on your own risk !!!!!
to do:
First copy framepupclock.zip and recoverframe.zip to your sdcard
Than load framepupclock.zip with clockwork mod. --> reboot and be happy if it works.
If you have an error just load recoverframe.zip
I tested it only on my streak with streakdroid 1.8.1 but I think it should work on every streakdroid 1.8 or 1.8.1
also loaded the files to another server
framepup.zip: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KO0GLZC8
recoverframe.zip: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KO0GLZC8
by the way sorry for my bad english xDD
//edit: ok i changed the framework: "have a nice day" was replaced by a clock
Just load framepupclock.zip instead of framepup.zip

Is there an easy way to change these to say something else we prefer?
I have done research and it looks like hex editing, etc.
Thanks for the help.
Thank you to anyone who helps remove the word AT&T from my device.

maybe there is an easier way =)

this is the carrier name app, thats the esier way. I think it will work on some streakdroid 1.8 :

But I also tried and it didnt worked for me... i think it is because of the unlocked phone or something... When You have A&T it is a locked phone so maybe this app works also for you.... dont know if you already tried it.

When you want to change the "have a nice day" to something else you ave to decompile/compile with apktool ---> long steps. Maybe when i have enough time I will change the "have a ice day" into a clock or something like that.

nope , Ive tried that app on 1.7 and now im on 1.8.1 and didnt work either.
I'll keep a look out for an update. I'm carrier locked to AT&T.

Maybe depends on the carrier. Locked o2 phones work but locked A&T not. I think the app only rewrites the /system/etc/spn.xml...

where in the framework-res.apk can you remove the carrier text from the statusbar only?

[REQ] Stock Notification Bar on Frankin-Twiz

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the stock notification bar/drop down on Eugene's Frankin-Twiz? I would assume it's just a matter of grabbing it from one of the earlier roms, but I'm not too sure on the specifics of how to do so.
I assumed it was just a matter of editing the framework-res, but like I said, not too sure which file(s) it would be.
Am I completely wrong in thinking this is possible? Thanks!

Hi,
do you mean just the matte black instead of glossy bar along the top of the screen? Or the pull down menu showing you current notifications? Or Both?
If just the first, its only one or two drawable files in framework-res.apk, if the latter (pull down on its own or with the top bar too) then its files in both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk, not too hard to figure out really.
My beta vertical battery mod for franken-twiz (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758797) includes most of the changes, and I can post a twframework-res.apk to revert the rest, but be warned, I switched to the non-glossy touchwiz drawable files that come with every other Galaxy S phone, stupid samsung/t-mobile decided our phone needed to be "shinier" than the rest of the series =(.
Cheers,
=)

Hey thanks for the response! I actually really like your work!
I guess to make it easier to explain, the only thing I don't like from Frankin-twiz is when you pull the bar down, where it says "T-Mobile" and "No notifications" or "Ongoing" ... the text doesn't exactly fit in the area.
And I do prefer the matte look over the glossy, so that's probably why I like your stuff!
Edit: Disregard the question about pushing via ADB. I see your instructions in the other thread.
Okay I got the bar taken care of and it looks great! Thank you for that.
Now I'm about to do twframework-res.apk so that it matches, but before I do, does it go in /system/framework as well and do you recommend clearing the cache partition and dalvik-cache afterwards?
Well I got it and it looks perfect! Thanks so much for your help and work!
Edit: Ran into an issue. Whenever I try to download/install from the market, I get a Force Close on com.android.vending. Any idea why? I wasn't getting that problem before.

Hi,
Not sure about any FC issues, market works fine for me.
That said, however, usually FC issues from mods like this can be fixed by running a repair permissions in rom mamager, then rebooting into clockwork mod and clearing the cache and dalvik-cache.
And also, I ALWAYS recommend clearing the cache/dalvik-cache after any mod.
Cheers,
=)

You could also go into settings, apps, manage, market, and uninstall updates..
I don't understand how this happens to ppl... Happened alot with htc devices but never on my sammy yet...
Edit: Thanks Junk, didn't see your post before my last response. That took care of the problem. I wonder how that happened, either way, thank you!

[SKIN] BlaY0's lockscreen 0.2 for stock based ROMs

Nothing special, just redrawn slider for stock HTC's lockscreen. Fits Confortaa font as seen on attached screenshot..
Slightly off topic, but may I ask how you changed the font? I assume it changes the font across all menus ?
If you would've read my posts in system overlay thread more carefully, you would've noticed that I mentioned Type Fresh.

Okay, thanks for the info. From memory I'm sure it's more dev focused [and so whilst it may be very clear to a techy audience, please remember not everyone is techy], though I'll give it a good read...
No worries m8, just try using this Type Fresh, it's pretty simple.

Sorry for noob question - but how can I install this fine addon?
Using metamorph. You need to have the /system overlay by BlaY0 installed to use metamorph. Have fun!
Mabye you can port this to Modaco r4 rom? (official froyo)
Maybe...

BlackTaskbar, coloured Circle Battery with %,Coloured Icons,for Steve's 1.5.0,1.6.0

Hi All,
I have (at long last) managed to do a black taskbar, with a coloured battery (With percentage) and coloured icons (V3). The carrier and other text is white.
Respect to Quikt for his modified services.jar & Tina333 for all her theme work!
This theme works on DJSTeve's latest 1.5.0 ROM & Also 1.6.0
NOTE it will take a few minutes to load so it will hang on the boot animation for a few minutes - just be patient!!!
As normal copy the zip file to your SD root. Run Recovery (I use mistadman, because it's brilliant), etc, etc
What's the best app for a screen shot?
BFN
Ody
Wow.works great for steve's latest 1.5.0. and it looks great.
Thanks mate!

If anyone is wondering or debating these, they are VERY nice. Lively icons with colors that change depending on status. Very, very nice. And I have tried quite a few theme/task bar mods.

I want to try this but it took me awhile to upgrade my US att 1.6 to steve1.5. I am still iffy with the command prompt thing and not sure when to run what.
If I drop this in the root of my SD can I just hold the volumes and power buttons and tell it to install from zip or do I have to do some command line in fastboot first?
If not mistaken I just boot up using volume keys tell it to install pkg from sd card and then clockwork boots and allows me to install zip?
does my phone reset or is everything else retained?
Thanks.
Hey Ody,
If you could drop these changes into a framework for Steve's 1.5.1 so we can have a version for it, I'd really appreciate it!
Steve's changed the animations in 1.5.1, and he's saying that could present a problem with the status bars, themes, etc.
Anyway, I love this bar, and would definitely want to put it on 1.5.1 when I go to it. In fact, I might just wait a little bit to see if you update this before making the jump.
Call me crazy to wait on a whole ROM for a status bar, but I'm a sucker for a black bar, and I think this one's the best.
Thanks!
I installed it over 1.5.1 and everything booted fine. I lost the animations, which I didnt like anyway.

Ahh good call there. I thought that might be what would happen, but I have had these things result in bigger consequences before. Wasn't willing to experiment this time.
Anyway, I just flashed it too with the same result. I didn't hate the animations, but I tend to prefer snappy to flashy when it comes to performance, so I don’t think I will miss them either.
Plus, I have my favorite black bar back!

If you find you really miss the animations, you can also take the framework from this taskbar, run through the UOT kitchen, changing nothing except for adding which ever animation you want, then cook it up. Just tried it with the flying animation and it worked.
can you do that and post the zip?

uhhhh, dumb face here.
I currently dont have enough posts to post a link to the one I made. But if you want to make you own, its not that hard. Just go into system/framework folder using root explorer, make a copy of the framework-res.apk file, and paste the copy into you sd card. From there transfer the file to your computer. Then go to the UOT kitchen website. Just select theme only, click and keep selecting the "dont include" option until you reach the animation section where you pick the one you want. Fom there you click onto the next page where you will upload your framework to the website, click next and the cooking will begin. After it is done, transfer the zip file created back to you sd card and go into clockwork. First you clear you davlik cache then run the zip, reboot (which will take a little longer than normal) and you will have this theme with the animation of your choosing.
Just applied this on 1.5.1 for the first time, very impressed, thanks

Ps suggestion for future theme, maybe do a nice menu screen rather than the drab grey one?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Is there any way to get rid of this useless and space consuming carrier string in the upper left of the notification bar?
I'd like to be able to change the carrier string if possible: just something custom
Streaking with the XDA app!
Works like charm on 1.5.1, also remove new animations which i feel annoyed in the new rom

What theme are you using... most of them incorporate the reboot option... unless your using a custom theme... Might try flashing something like gingerblur, or one of the other popular themes in this forum. Then you can edit the framework-res.apk to your liking, replace what ever icons you want back, and you'll have the reboot option as well. Sorry, I'm ot sure how to just add the reboot option though... sure it will require the editing of services.jar or the framework-res.apk.
the theme im using doesnt have it. i want to modify the theme and add it but im no sure what i need to do to add that feature.. does anyone know how?

You could use my MotoBlur theme as a base for your theme. Its just the stock theme with 1% battery and reboot added.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076655
The reboot option is added by editing android.policy.jar.

Tried it the other day for 2.3.4... incredibly difficult... well, maybe not so much difficult, as it is trying to find a complete set of directions... Apparently, the devs used a combination of two different threads that were written for different phones... so the code lines don't match up and it was a damn cluster **** to try an figure out, so I gave up... Kenneth said this will be implemented on his next update for 2.3.4.
I wish I still had the pages saved, but I deleted them after trying to do this for a couple of hours, so I wouldn't be tempted to try it again. Ask in the IRC chat, there are a few people there that can direct you to the right place if you want to attempt, and good luck.
Bump, anyone find a good source for how to do this on gb? I'm not having luck finding the info.

No one's been able to do it yet as far as I know. The gingerbread file structure associated with the reboot option has changed so much that it is incredibly difficult. I had heard a report that Designgears may have figured it out, but I think it was probably a false report, as no Atrix Dev has yet to incorporate it into a ROM or theme.

Just another update... DG said to me a while back that he was able to add the options, but they screwed up the current options so none of them worked. He did not get it working for the Cognition beta.
I tried my hand as well, but couldn't figure it out.

Is it adding the button to the menu that breaks it?

I tried as well, and all I got was me turning my power button into a reset button, options wouldn't show up.. so there was no way to turn it off, it would just reset my phone when ever I tried to pull up the Phone options..
I was working on this a little bit once I got GB update. I am like 80% the way through it. I can link to what I am going off of-
From the Vibrant Forums
I had all the files edited and ready to rock, the problem I was at was the RECOMPILING. I think I was missing some dependencies.
I got all the way up to that point and had to go home for the day at work- never picked it back up. If I get some time at work today I'll give it another crack.
If I get anywhere I'll post my framework-res.apk.
I followed the steps from that thread too and while I could build/compile everything fine and get the options to show in the menu none of the reboot options would work. Seems we're all having similar issues with this.

I was following that thread as well, and my issue was stated above, then I saw this from the DX2 forum, which has GB and on his change log, he stated he added reboot options.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198857
I grabbed his theme, compared the framework.jar, framework-res.apk, and android.policy.jar files.. they pretty much match up with ours. So, using Notepad++, I did a compare between the files, added what he added, basically looks like the same things from the vibrant how-to. This time around, when I press for the power options, it comes up normal, but the link to the 'reboot' does not show up... I might try this without the battery %, as that takes up alot of the hex id....
I'm thinking we might need to add that line from DG that he did a while back for the first reboot options on froyo...
I also have no problems with recompile... I'll mess around with it some more when I have free time.. I don't spend much time inside during the summers..
has anyone decompiled the framework-res from the g2x's gb build or maybe even CM? Not USE the framework of course, but maybe see what flags that policy uses for a reboot?
edit* seems like previous posted may have tried what I asked. back to the digi drawing board...

All i really wanna do is get the black bar across the top lol

If you are only applying one thing, you can just use Metamorph from the market (rooted). Then go to Droidpirate.com and find you notification bar you want and follow the dorections.
Quick and easy. Zipthemer can do multiple changes as once in an update.zip style.

The clock color is contained in the services.jar file. You would probably also need a modified xml in framework-res that controls the ticker text (e.g. the text that flashes on the statusbar when you updated an app from market) & the color of the date that displays when the status bar is expanded.
