Hi people,
Today when I was using the navi function with my Droid Eris GSB v1.8 ROM something very interesting, if not scary, thing happened. First there was the stock google maps voice speaking directions then it turned into this creepy voice repeating a URL over and over. Have anybody had this issue with the GSB v1.8 ROM???? I know v1.9 is out but I haven't flashed it yet...
any help is appreciated thanks!!

I've had it before, and I am not sure that it was a GSB or a CELB (Froyo) ROM - I actually don't think the problem is the ROM. (I haven't tried GSB v1.8 yet). In my case, I determined that I had apparently chosen the wrong TTS facility to use with the Nav app. The "creepy" voice reads the XML file really, really, slowly, right?
If you have Google Translate on the phone, you probably have both Pico and TTS Extended on your phone. When you start up Nav for the first time, it asks you (twice) which TTS library you want to use.
Frankly, I don't remember what I had done to cause the problem in the first place - all I know is that I did not have to reload the ROM from scratch. Probably I tried clearing the defaults for the TTS libraries, and if that didn't work, I probably un-installed and re-installed the related apps.
I am guessing (because I can't really remember exactly) that you should choose Pico as the TTS engine for Nav - because if you don't ever install Google Translate, there is no need to install TTS Extended, and everything will be fine.
Hope that helps; sorry for the vagueness.
OMG THANK YOU! I was searching all over the place for the answer and I was about close to throwing my phone out the window because I thought it was possessed. Flashing GSB v1.9 and I will make a note of the TTS engines.
It's like they halfway updated the voice, but not for all phrases yet.

PLEASE NOTE: This patch addresses application force closes on newer google maps applications (5.5-5.7) running on gingerbread-based ROMs for the ERIS. This does not address reboots/restarts (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1157099 for progress on this other problem)
After extensive testing on CondemnedCM7 V15, I believe that the Navigation force closes many of us experience on the newest maps version is fixable (at least on Condemned's ROM; GSB users report that problems still remain) by rolling back google maps framework files to a version used for Android 2.2 ROMS. I have been testing since last week and have not had a single navigation force close. My longest test was 1 hour 10 mins with multiple reroutes and no force close. One known issue, Map application (not navigation) will unexpectedly close (that is, will not offer a force close but will shut down) randomly while using the search box. I have not been able to consistently reproduce this
I am attaching two zip files flashable from AmonRa Recovery if you would like to try the fix. The first replaces the current maps framework with the froyo framework. The second rolls back the change to the latest gingerbread framework.
If you are using maps 5.2 which CS included in the system apps for v15 and are happy with the result, then you do not need to flash this file. If you would like to use the newest maps app (5.7), you may wish to try this.
In theory, this fix would work on an AOSP or Cyanogen gingerbread ROM, so if folks on other devices are having similar problems, they may want to try.
Good luck everyone!
NOTE: this is repeated from CondemnedSoul's CM7 thread. The attachments can be found there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15978440&postcount=535
Thanks for everything your doing on this issue.
I upgraded to 5.7 and flashed the patch. Ran Nav for 30 minutes and all was fine. Not sure when I can test longer but if I do I'll let you know the results.
Only got to run Nav for another 30 minutes today but she worked flawlessly again.
Glad its working for someone other than me!

Have to go get it myself.
klob, will upgrading to 5.8 overwrite the fix files, or should I have run the unfix before upgrading?
Either way all I did was upgrade and so far Nav has been running for 40 minutes. Not driving anywhere, just have Nav running while I'm in the house.
Upgrading maps app will not affect the fix, so if you want to find out if it works with stock gapps, you'll need to flash the unfix. Also, bftb0 on the gsb thread has demonstrated that desktop navigation is not a good test for force closes. I'd get it on the road to be sure.
My commute starts in about 15 minutes. I'll report back soon...

I got to use Google Nav today and it wasn't the best. After 5 minutes it went shut off, just shut off and phone went to sleep. Opened Nav back up and after 14 minutes the map locked, never updated/moved, tough screen commands still came up along with menu but nothing worked. Rebooted and applied the fix that klobkelosh posted earlier and it didn't change anything, screen keeps freezing. This is all after full wipe and flashing latest CS v16 vanilla with 5.8 Maps.

Odd. I just full wipe installed ccm16sth with 5.8 maps and navigation worked fine. One thing I did was disable text to speech, maybe that's the culprit? You can disable by renaming system/lib/libtts.so.

GPS files the culprit?
Not sure if this will help but today running GSB 3.8 ODEX with Maps 5.8 (no framework mods.) my phone completely restarted in the middle of a walk. The thing is that I was not using Maps nor Nav. I WAS using TrackerBooster, an app that uses GPS to measure my walking distances. So maybe this is more related to GPS files than it is to Maps or Nav. As you can tell I am not a developer, so this may be all one and the same. Just thought posting it might lend a clue. Thanks for all you guys are doing to figure this out!

Something I noticed... making me wonder if it's memory allocation issue... after a reboot, going right into Nav, it still force closes but not until 30+ minutes,
If I haven't rebooted in a while and have been running other apps like, gmail, exchange, facebook, and the going driving with NAV the reboot happens right away
Well first of all sorry for posting this here but it appears that my "noobness" is too great to post on the devepolment section.
I wanted to ask if anyone else had problems with FoxHound Sniper Wolf. I did a clean install coming from Resurrection Remix 2.0. As soon as it booted it told me Messaging force closed, I wiped app data and rebooted and the same happened, If I tried to open the app it Fc'd again. S-Voice Fc'd after any command, Samsung Mail Fc'd when I tried to view any email (It did sync but as soon as I tapped a message it FC'd). Gmail app couldnt send e-mails (this has been happening since Resurrection Remix 1.0, I wanted to ask but then again Im a noob so Im forbiden to ask questions). GPS couldnt lock my location.
All the abovementioned problems were tolerable but what made me go back to RR is the fact that GTalk didnt get online, it said Signing in, and the showed everyone Offline (including myself). I though this was a bad flash so I wiped and reflashed, the same happened. Any ideas anyone? I really LOVED this ROM but I really use GTalk a LOT, and also Maps.
Im not sure if this has something to do but I Restored my apps from Titanium.
Thank you
i had a sort of same problem with sniper wolf when installing over a hacked version of ics, all i did was install original gingerbread then install sniper wolf, worked fine
hope this helps
Just flashed to Epinters CM10 (JellyBean) on my Atrix 4G. AMAZING ROM!
Only major issue I'm having is with Google TTS. Google Now is working but not getting any text to speech. Same thing under Google TTS settings, when selecting 'Listen to a sample', I don't get any audio. Other audio is working fine, ie notifications, rings, etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It's a rom in a very early stage of development. There might not be a fix out right now since JB hasn't been out that long. It's not really a rom you should use are your primary right now because it's bound to have a lot of bugs like this.

It's actually very stable for the most part. Almost all functions seem to work, only thing I can get working is the TTS. Nobody else has reported the issue in the Development tread so not sure if specific to my phone...
Issue resolved. Had to wipe/reflash rom and JB gapps. Google Now with text to speech!!
Curious about some of these since most of them don't seem to be documented on the main thread, so I'm not sure if it's something on my end or something not working with the ROM. Any workaround suggestions would be appreciated.
--Built-in video camera app doesn't work (documented).
--Video playback doesn't work correctly. Audio is fine, video lags. Eventually audio stops to resync with laggy video. Happens with video files recorded before installing the ROM, which used to play fine on stock GB, as well as tested with video files dumped from my PC. Tried Gallery's player, MX player, and Rock player.
--Chrome crashes frequently (most notably when hitting the tabs button).
--Twitch.tv app plays audio with a black screen (youtube and other things work fine).
--Hardware buttons don't light up.
--Voice Search doesn't work.
--Google Books crashes immediately (documented). (seems to be fixed as of 8-23B)
--Live wallpapers don't work (black background). (seems this magically fixed itself without any updates or workarounds)
--Battery % seems to act weird above 90%, lately it's been stopping charging at 95% (or so it says), and the battery info on the lock screen says "Charged" rather than "Charging" at 95%. Reboot, battery pull, wipe batt stats, re-flash ROM, etc. didn't fix. This didn't happen for the first few days after initial install. (seems to be an Atrix problem with 4.0+ rather than a ROM specific problem)
Edit: 8-23-12B
Live Wallpapers working just fine here on latest 0815

I am not talking about chrome itself I was talking about the chrome to phone app that works with the desktop chrome add on. I should have specified a little more.

I use this all the time with going between my phone, my work, and my home computers.
So is there a work around to install flash on CM10. Also mkv files do not work even with mx player correct? Anything else that doesn't work? A complete list would be appreciated!

It works. Like anything else, you need to sign off/sign in to the service for it to recognize it again. Need to do that every time you flash a rom.

That doesn't work. I have logged in and out on phone and computer, I have installed fresh, I have tried clearing data, and reistalling with data from titanium. Any other ideas? I tried everything I can think of. And I can use the phone to chrome fine just not the chrome to phone...
Most things are running very well. I've tried about a half a dozen roms over the past week or so. One of the only problems I've found is issues with google now. It wont speak back to me, it's just shows the google results. Even on basic questions that it usually would speak an answer back to you, like scores of a baseball game or something like that. But that's not a big problem for me. Also, there's some issues with Chrome and some other browsers. Some browsers work better than others. To my surprise, I'm having the best luck with Firefox Beta and Boat Browser.

Google Voice Crashes
Great ROM. Thanks, epinter.
I'm getting regular messages for Google Voice stopping. I'm running the gapps v3 and the 2012-080-25 ROM but I was also getting the Google Voice crashes in 2012-08-23B.
I upgraded from CM9 without a user wipe (I did wipe cache) and went straight to gapps v3. Other than the Google Voice FCs, everything is running great. I haven't read about anyone else having this problem. Is it just me?
Much appreciated.

Update: I incorrectly assumed that Google Voice was part of the gapps package. A quick uninstall and reinstall of Google Voice through Play did the trick.

Hello, guys this is really a big issue for me and i have no clue what can be causing this problem.
I am currently running SlimSaber Latest 4.4.4: 20150810 http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-slimsaber-i9100-t2350201
But have also had this problem on ResurrectionRemix lolipop, dont remember the exact version i had installed at that time.
I have tried to change the TTS from Pico to Google text to speech and Ivona..no luck, the navigation voices will just stop working sooner or later for no apparent reason, i will hear a "ding" sound instead of any voice guidance.
If i "clear data" for Google Maps, sometimes, not all the time, the problem will get fixed temporarily..but will appear again in no time.
I have tried reinstalling Google Maps, reinstalling the TTS, changing the TTS...nothing works, and if something does work, it is only temporary, for 1-2 days at most.
Please, do you guys have any suggestions on what i can do to fix this ?

I am using the gapps located here slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1150-addons4-4 **Version** Slim_mini_gapps.4.4.4.build.8.x-385.
I am not sure where to look up the partition details but i have not repartitioned anything so i believe everything should be default.
Thankfully, i have found a strange and yet seemingly reliable fix for my problem after at the very least 2 weeks of trying to figure out why voice navigation stops working.
The fix i've found is very easy to do and i have no idea why it works but it seems to be working all the time, found it only a few hours ago but it passes the phone restart test & google maps restart (something which none of the other things i've tried did), i must first start the navigation and select vehicle / car as my method of transportation, after that, i switch back to what i normally use which is "on foot" and the navigation voice will work.
This is the issue of incomplete voice directions. The voice directions need to be downloaded when you are using the Google Maps and it depends on your internet speed. If there is no voice direction, you will hear "chime" sound instead of the voice direction.
Check out the help from google.
