Hello developers,
I'm offering $100 donation to any developer who could help me to get the Arabic language work properly in Atrix 4g without bricking it!
For more details to the problem please visit this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965588
I've tried once to replace files in the System/lib using Root Explorer and got the phone bricked!
So I'm admitting that I don't have much experience and I'm afraid to brick the phone again.
So, it’s your turn now dev's .. Please respond to this thread or PM me for more details.
Here is a link for an Arabic Android Generic Update for Froyo:
http://ardoid.com/?p=64
Thanks!
I hope that happens before the Atrix arrives in Canada next week.... cannot wait for Ice Cream's language support to arrive next Christmas on the dev-locked Atrix.

Thanks a lot Medo!
Well I've tried it and it worked nicely on everything except the browser and some minor issues.
In fact, there are some issues with text messaging. None of the other phones that I sent them Arabic text messages received it properly. Some of them like the iphone shows squares instead of letters others like N95 shows nothing at all .. yup nothing at all
Also, The keyboard is working properly in the whatsap app .. Except for the character "لا" or any word that contains this character like "علامه " it shows squares to the other side of iphone users.
I'm very sad that you sold your Atrix and hope you tell me how I could continue my way to get the full Arabic support.
I would be very happy to donate for you the $100.
I will send you a PM in seconds for more details.
1.medo18 has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove medo18 from the recipient list and send the message again.

My Siemens SX56 won't give me SMS Sent Message Confirmation even if I tick the box that requests for it.
How do I do it guys???
What you need to do is this...
Start writing a message, and then choose Edit > Edit My Text Messages. Next, choose one of the messages you won't use (I choose the last one for ease of use and the fact I'd never say "I love my Pocket PC!" to anyone) and edit it to show
*0#
exactly as typed. Asterisk number 0 and hash key / pound sign. Save it and then the next time you type a message, put this in the Subject field of your message. The bad news is that it takes up 3 chars in your 160 max per message, but the good news is that once the message is delivered or pending etc, you get a message telling you. The tickbox in the sms options doesn't seem to work whenever I've tried it (why is it there? - does this work on non o2 providers, out of interest?) but the *0# definitely does.
Hope this helps.
Anthony
the tick box option seems to work fine for me on orange, i know that trying to use delivery reports on nokias with o2 dosent work either! i think its just some o2 thing
Yeah now you say that I remember myself. It was a friend on o2 (who didn't have an XDA type phone) who told me about using the *0# in the first place.
Wonder why they can't set it up as all other networks seem to and it's a very useful feature when it works properly.
Anthony
hey thanks
just posting to thank you for providing this answer.
I've long wondered why ticking the checkbox did nothing but hadn't realised there was a way round it.
that's cool, xda-developers never lets you down
I sent SMS which was something like three SMSs chained together in Finnish language (Scandic letters äö etc.) to my girlfriend, and she said that only the first sentence was clear text, the rest was squares. Her phone is some old Sony Ericsson non-smartphone.
I told her to send the message back to me, and weird enough, first sentence is nearly as I wrote it, the "" smiley at the end of the sentence was two squares. After the squares, there's a few Chinese or Japanese Kanji characters and then again square or two, then again Kanji characters until end of the message chain.
Anybody seen this kind of problem? I think this should be reported to HTC if not already, I just don't know if this problem can be reproduced otherwise than sending similar awfully cute message to someone
sounds like some weird issue with the character sets being used (UTF-8 or Unicode etc.)
Don't know of any way to check what is being used on android....

I would suggest that your first port of call would be to try to send similar messages to friends who are using more up to date devices. It is possible that it is the SE that is failing to interpret the message correctly, rather than an issue with the Hero per se.
Regards,
Dave
Yes I have, and now that you mentioned it I double checked. I'm quite sure the problem is caused by having a letter with the tilde on top in the message instead of the proper åäö. This happens very easily, since the tilde versions are right next to correct ones on the popup lists of the touch keyboard and the difference on the fonts after typing is barely noticeable.
What I don't know is if those a the only problematic symbols and wheather the character encoding is screwed up on android, by the operator (elisa) or at the receiver phone (s40 I think). I just hope the next version of the HTC rom has Finnish language support so that it would be easier to type and avoid this.
For now, simply spell check you texting carefully before hitting send. Especially when sending to gf

Actually what I didn't mention was that there was one "õ" character in the first sentence just for the reason you mentioned. I'm constantly hitting those still after three weeks using Hero. It may indeed be the reason for this "Chinese" translator" feature!
Thanks for suggesting this, I'm also hoping that if the äö characters are not visible on the main keyboard view, they should at least be more accessible in the future for us Finns
Hello,
Same problem for me. This is a known issue with Android OS, there is many complaisn from all contries in Europe using any special characters like 'ê' in french. More information here:

I just want to send and receive texts in Arabic without seeing a bunch of boxes instead of characters. I also want to send and receive IM's in Arabic without seeing a bunch of boxes. I read all over but I can't find the answer to my problem.
If it's possible, is there a solution to get full Arabic support (text messaging and 3rd party applications) without rooting my phone? If it isn't I don't mind rooting just be specific towards what to do.
Please help me out, thanks in advance.
there's a prog called mirsal
u can download it form the market to read and send text messages in arabic
it only works with SMS but it is not working with facebook posts or reading news
There was an Arabic translator app I used to have that allowed you to cut and paste as well as send SMS and email from the apps ui. I can't remember the name right now I'll try to find it for you. I don't know if that's something that would be helpful.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Actually, there is a good arabization port for the Vibrant from the i9000 galaxy S running on 2.1 . It was taken from the galaxy i9000 released in the middle east and tweaked to run on the vibrant. It works great except that its a battery hog. There were several attempts to place 2.2 froyo on the vibrant with full arabic support, but they all had many problems. I would recommend that you try the 2.1 port first.
The explanations are here

If you got the contact saved in phonebook, then you can create new SMS to that contact and it will be send.
It's because you send SMS first without prefix, then receive SMS with prefix and the number in thread gets overwritten from nonprefix to prefix.
If you have prefix in sms center number in settings, remove it.
thank you for your reply yeah i thought that myself when the first one sent then the next one didnt i thought i wonder if its adding the prefix back on with the next message thanks for your reply i will remove the prefix in the centre number. i was in 2 minds as to do that but now i have a second opinion i will try it thanks bro for your reply
Jonny,
I had the same problem as you with this ROM (on Virgin) and nothing I did would make SMS's send - either new, or replies.
I have now installed Aeroflyluby's VDG Mango 8107 and with that ROM, sometimes I can send SMS - but it is not consistent AND GPS works on that ROM (it doesn't work for me on Miro's ROM).
HOWEVER, on VDG Mango 8107, I find it impossible to set the SMS Message Centre - when I fill in the number and hit "save" as the phone either hangs or the Message Centre number remains blank. On this ROM, I have also tried using the HTC Connection setup (which works fine on Miro's ROM's) but it complains that it's database is empty.
So, here is a very long shot. Check out HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch - which should be a dword. I think that you might find in Miro's ROM it is set to 7, but for the UK we need it set to 10 (to match the last 10 digits of a mobile or landline number).
On the VDG Mango 8107 ROM, this key doesn't exist - and I don't have permissions to create it - but if it is already there, you should be OK to change it.
Good luck!
thanks for your reply im not sure about fiddling with the registry. back in wm6.5 i was always making a mess of the registry but, i must admit i made some really good tweaks with editing the registry, but, in wp7 id rather leave it up to the experts on that one as i have never owned a wp7 phone before so im not sure how things will react.
thanks for your input tho , much appreciated
I just changed from an iPhone 5 to HTC ONE and I'm so frustrated at this issue. In iPhone, after sending a text message the keyboard stays on the screen in case you want to type something right after what you sent previously. In HTC One however, If I type "Hello" and press send, the keyboard will hide in bottom before I can type "How are you?" in the following separate text message. It's pretty frustrating to keep clicking the white part to bring back the keyboard up to send a follow up text. I've tried all kinds of things but just can not seem to find a solution to this problem. Any help will be appreciated. BTW it's running stock at&t software and nothing has been modified.
That's the way it's supposed to be there's no fix because nothing is broken
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
That's how a normal phone works. Why would you send multiple messages in a row?
Here is how a normal person sends a text:
Hi, how are you? Wanna meet at taco bell for lunch?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Amazing
*s¡gned
I hate people like you. Text 1 Hello. 2. How are you? 3. Whats going on tonight?.
If your going to have a conversation with the person then call them if not then just get straight to the point. I think the fix is knowing when you make a phone call vs text.

as noted, this isn't a 'problem' with the phone. it's working properly. i almost dont want to dignify your questionw itha response due to, as others noted, your apparent penchant for sending a series of short texts taht could easily jsut be one message. part of the problem is you. that said, I will provide a response because i use an app that deservesplugging and is truly a spectacular addition to the phone. Get yourself the Chomp SMS app from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.p1.chompsms and at chompsms.com). It's tremendous for about 1000 different reasons, one of which is that is allows you to control when the keyboard auto-hides.
to your credit, years ago when i switched to Android from iPhone i did find this setting odd. however, i got used to it and actually much prefer it now. i'd probably dropkick myself in teh face if i had to deal with the keyboard staying up and that tiny little screen on the iPhone again...you can only see about 2 messages! that was horrifically frustrating.

also, it really sucks that this is your first post in XDA. i know we're long past the days where these forums were saved for the dedicated developer and hardcore enthusiast, but this is just a sad introduction ot use on XDA. it's crap like this that's turning these forums into the new android/droid forums...do a little reasearch before posting, okay? maybe even read the rules of the forums?
