I killed my first Vibrant by flashing DOW's kernal. See thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957615
So I just bought another Vibrant off ebay but I don't want it to die again. Is there a kernal that's proven to be safe that also includes Voodoo sound?

I have had zero issues with overstock and categorically worthless. Keep in mind, they are not OC kernels. For OC with voodoo sound, try Dragon, though I did experience occational sleep of death issues but no bricks. I got rid of DoW in a hurry once I read about currupt SDs.
NO need to OC... try OverStock. Amazing.
What's overstock??

^ Check the development section. It should be on the first page.
Basically stock kernel with a ton added to it.

Thanks, just flashed OverStock. Seems great.
Best kernel out there now and for a long time...no need for OC ever.
Wow, you are rich man. Send me yr old vibrant. She s still live...lol.
Anyway, agree with s15274n, the most safe kernel is overstock for now. No sad.

Just wondering.... what are the real differences between the two? Which do you use- and why?
There are actually very few differences between them. They are based off the same source, so it really just depends on personal preference. I use JAC's because I like JAC.
I have used both. The first kernel I ever flashed was kings. It was really smooth and responsive. But now I use jacs with voodoo since i started flashing bionix. Its really, really smooth and lag free. It's all personal opinion and preference. The voodoo kernels can be tricky when it comes to flashing. You have to make sure voodoo is disabled. It only takes a min to disable it. But all in all, I would go with jacs, my opinion.

JAC is amazing. I support the person.
I've used both but currently am running Bionix 1.9.1 w/kingklick OC/UV kernel. It seem so far to have a slightly better battery life. I did away with Voodoo only because I got tired of disabling it to keep up with the roms.
I've used both and both are very good. I now use JAC's with Bionix 1.9 purely because it has the voodoo lagfix attached.
Voodoo all the way. JAC is the MAN. Voodoo is not all that bad to deal with imo. You just need to disable it for everything. Including before you drive to work!
Hmm I would still like a developers opinion. I wonder what sombionix or eugene thinks? His signature says he is using Kings.

He is using Kings because he has a special edition from Kings that allow overclock to 1.3 Ghz. He talked about it in his Bionix thread in development.
I have stock ED01 on my Fascinate. I want to get a Voodoo kernel back on the phone to negate the lag. Not sure which Kernel would be the best one to get because I am a n00b
I to want to know what voodoo kernel to use someone please answer
I'm pretty sure any of the froyo kernels would be fine. Personally, I'm using nemesis' kernel since it has the most customization and it works fine.

Using jts kernel because of personal preference. Other ones are heavily modded. Namely undervolted a lot.

I use Nutty Kernel. Im a ultra heavy user and still get 14hrs + 32%. For moderate use, I think I can go for 3 days.
You've just been Fascinated
I have had some AMAZING success with OTB-Reloaded; definitely try it out.

Cool I just flashed this rom. I like everything except the black everthing theme. Not a big fan but for now that stuff takes a back seat to working fast phone with good battery life.
So far this ROM is very fast. I am liking that. No showstoppers for me. No major bugs although I did have one lockup/reboot when I first opened the camera. Might need to pull the battery, because I haven't done that since before I flashed this ROM/Kernel.
Very nice overall.
I just flashed the new rom and I gotta say I love it....except for one thing. I can't seem to get any sound to work with the startup. I have the poweron.wav file in the right spot... i think... but still no sound. Can anyone confirm if the community rom allows startup sound?

Hey guys. I was wondering what kernel and or ROM is the fastest availible at the moment.
I've been following the Android Developement pages here for a while, and I consider myself somewhat proficient at flashing firmware, etc.
I'm running CM7 on my Vibrant right now, and I was wanting to flash a different ROM. I considered going back to stock, but I wanted to get input on what is the fastest availible right now.
Also: what lagfixes and overclocking tools do you use? I am trying to make my Vibrant as fast as possible.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Malice is the fastest. Bullet kernel is the only one which can do 1.4Ghz so i am assuming its the fastest.
Agreed! kernel/ROM (imho) Bullet1.42Ghz/Malice2.3.1.
Another good kernel i like is Tigersbloodv3
Both those kernels OC well if ur phone can handle it.
If your phone doesn't play well with OC my personal favorite is CwK
Also, download Spare Parts from the market and set both animations to "fast"... this makes the ROMs appear much faster.
The real test is going back and forth between apps and the load time.
"fast" is kind of a floating point. As someone already mentioned, fast can sometimes be as easy as speeding up the animations.
I've had great luck with the SimplyGalaxy roms due to their ability to remain fast months after flashing.
Cool! Thanks for all the input, guys!
What about overclocking and lagfix utilities?
I heard there is an app or tool that you can overclock, but set to underclock when the phone is not in use...
Also, I was using one click lag fix on stock, is there anything like that I need for these ROMs, or does it come built in?
For over/under clocking, try setcpu from the market.
OCLF is nowhere near as good as Voodoo. Most ROMs that are available in the dev section come with a voodoo injected kernel.
Try vibrace overclocked. I guerentee you will love it!

Malice or Bi Winning W/ Bullet Kernel.
Then spare parts to adjust animation speeds. <3
I personally found MIUI to be the snappiest at 1.3 ghz.
I've been running custom ROMs on my vibrant since the day it became possible, and every time I install something other than one of Eugene's ROMs I come to regret it.
CM7 with a custom OC/UV kernel gets a 2100 Quadrant that translates to a really snappy UI and 3D faster than any 2.2 ROM.

I reach quadrant scores in the 2700's on 2.2.1 roms....but what does that really matter.

Do I need to do the OCLF with Bullet Kernel/Trigger 3.2 Final? haha I did it, but I read around and people say you dont need to.. So is it a stock rom thing, or are there certain roms OCLF plays nice with?
Also, those who have used Trigger Rom, which kernel works better for you, Bullet or Overstock? I can't find any info on Bullet, besides the website, and everyone raves about Overstock. I don't want a overclocking fiend, I want a stable, fast phone with great battery life. Should I skip both and try Bali? Hmmmm and whichever one you suggest, please tell me if I should use OCLF!! Thanks So much every one and devs for helping out this noob

OCLF is obsolete, we all use voodoo LF in our kernels now, dont use OCLF unless you want to ODIN

So if I did it, then flashed a new kernel (Bali) after I did oclf on bullet, should I Odin to stock and reinstall trigger /Bali, or just use the undo lagfix on the oclf app? Thanks a lot

You can undo the OCLF, then flash your kernel of choice. MAKE SURE ITS UNDONE BEFORE YOU FLASH!!!! Also have ODIN handy just in case.
Before I flashed CM7 I used to use trigger with overstock. I tried bullet for a bit but I felt like overstock gave me more battery life. Bullet however did score a bit higher on benchmark tests but overall I felt overstock was smoother for the amount of battery life I got out of it.

Which one would you guys recommend to me most?
I'm currently on Bali, have been for about 12 hours, and its given me a few hours extra on battery life, but i'm wondering, is Glitch even better? I don't like to flash things I don't need.
So you guys tell me.
This is to help me, AND others that wonder the same question...
Havent tried bali yet. Luuuurve glitch tho. Voodoo color is a plus and my battery life is much better, about 5 hrs more than stock redux. But as doon as bali gets voodoo color [which is soon] ill try it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Well, I'd say glitch is for the more technically/tweaking due to it have voodoo color, up to 1.7ghz oc, insane work into UV and oc stability based on your chip quality.
But Bali might have slightly better vibrant specific support since it's from a mostly vibrant oriented dev. But Bali might be more generic in the features it has (this sentence is not meant to be read as a knock or rude in anyway).
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
glitch is awesome, previously terrible battery life and stability was questionable, but after latest update v11 battery especially is amazing, and getting some good UV aswell

I will try Glitch, but is the battery still good even if I don't Undervolt, underclock, over clock, or anything just flash the kernel?

Glitch seems to have better battery life, and thats what i wanted.
Bali gives more than the usual from CM7, but glitch goes over Bali, this is great, and the phone actually sleeps now.
thanks guys
Are you guys trying this on froyo or GB? Or it doesn't matter?

I never got how to flash a kernal. 2 years into android and I'm still clueless-__-. Do you flash it like a normal rom? I have miui running. Do I just flash? Wipe?
Im fairly new to flashing kernels as well, but you DL it, put it on your internal SD and flash it like you would a rom. Thats all I did when I flashed Bali.
So far no real difference on Bali, my battery drain on cm7 is still terrible but I just flashed it today so Ill give it a couple more days
I always had crappy battery on Glitch, and I'm talking 8-10 hours completely unused. Bali is vibrant-specific and gives MUCH better battery life, 15 hours and still had 30% left.

for bali, you do it normal, and for glitch to be safe, theres a script you have to download, and first flash that, then the kernel.

IDK if there's a version for Froyo ROMS.
Glitch is for CM7, specifically, idk if it will even work for miui- you need to pay attention to the title, which i never read.
but it is for 2.3 roms as far as i know, and there MAY be one for froyo in the future if enough people contact the developer asking for it.
