I want to share the versions of the Market and various Gapps that work for me on Sam's HC EMMC v4.0, 2nd ed. build {Huge props to him, deeper-blue, and others who got HC working on the NC. Without their heroic efforts, I'd be working 4 jobs right now trying to save up to buy a Xoom}
This script is the first one I run after doing a fresh build of HC EMMC, but you should also be able to do it on a stale version of HC as well.
Maps is version 5.0
While I am confident that these files will work for you as well, please remember, individual results may vary---use at your own discretion.
NOTE: The 'GoogleServicesFramework.apk' file in the attached .zip will remove the blue wi-fi icon from Sam's initial build. If you prefer the blue icon over a working Market (My Apps), then DO NOT proceed with the installation!
That being said, please do the following before trudging ahead:
+ Perform a full backup using your bootable CWR SD card [see samuelhalff's thread for instructions on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071]
+ Backup each of the original files on your NC that will be replaced by the script
+ See #1 & #2 above...you've been warned
Instructions for Installation:
Extract the files contained within the attached .zip into the same directory as your ADB directory (where your 'adb.exe' file lives). Mine was located here on my computer: C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
Connect your NC to your computer, ensuring ADB is working properly ahead of time
Double-click on the file 'HoneyGAppInstall.cmd' and the script to install the new apps will run
The script will reboot your NC upon completion
Once your NC comes backup from the reboot, you can then login to the Market, select "My Apps" and they should show up right away.
I have also attached the 'build.prop' file I use. This modified file allows me to see tablet apps (NY Times Tablet, More Good News Tablet) and also I can see/download/install both Angry Birds games.
NOTE: The ro.sf.lcd_density is set to 140 in my file. This is not friendly to Zeam and needs to be set to at least 150 for that launcher to work without Force Closing in Portrait mode.
Good luck and let me know if any issues.
EDIT: For those running a build that is not new and already has the original Market setup, would be best to do the following steps after running the Gapps script:
1.) Settings > Manage Applications > All > Market: Clear Cache then Force Stop -- DO NOT Clear Data2.) Settings > Manage Applications > All > Google Services Framework: Clear Data3.) Reboot

Would it be possible to flash the market zip through recovery? Looks like it would work in theory.
I can see all the installed apps on My Apps. Thanks for these files. But I have one problem. My Nook no longer shows up on market.android.com. Anyone else have this problem?
Is Youtube working?

I don't use that site much, but I did just check it out of curiosity.
I verified it was working by going into: My Market Account > Settings tab. I can see "LogicPDZoom2" with last access of today's date.

Not being a dev, I don't know how to compile the files I attached and make them flashable.
However, I can tell you that I do have a black-themed Market by Darkslide for my DroidX that is flashable via CWR, but sadly, it did not work for me. I tried it by booting to the CWR SD card. Would have been nice to have the black-themed version.
I also have a flashable version of Zeam, but again, did not work for me.
Now, I have not tried it by going into CWR using Sam's method with his built-in utility. This is because I have not really been able to get that to work 100% of the time and also because it is just so easy to get to CWR via the bootable SD card that I have not really messed with it too much.
I can post the black-themed Market if someone smarter than me wants to take a look at it...might prove useful. I am just not sure if a DX file can be used on the NC
Just let me know and maybe we can figure it out together.

And you have to be pretty fast at disabling that little "HQ" icon in the top-right corner of the screen. From my experience, has to be almost instantaneous by the time it appears on the screen or the video won't load.

Thanks for checking. I did mess around with the build.prop you provided. I think I messed something up. I will use the file you provided without any changes.
Thanks.
Not being dev minded, I don't know how much help I would be. I was able to extract the apks from the zip file and move them with root explorer, changed permissions and it appears to be holding. Have rebooted twice and still good. Your script in the zip file would not work with cwr since it is windows based, I think. I don't know if the apks would install in recovery without a script, seems like it would not. Anyway, thanks for putting this together. Market works with the apks and the build. prop seems to have helped as well. Thanks again.

You are most welcome and yes, the .zip is not flashable for CWR. XDA will only allow for certain types of files to be uploaded and .zip is one of them, so easier for me to go that route.
Files in the .zip are meant to be extracted into the folder where ADB.exe exists in order for the script to work correctly. As stated in the OP, I have only tested this on a Win7 box, as that is the only platform I have access to at the moment.
Root Explorer will also work, as you already know. So, for those who want to go that route, it is certainly an option. Glad things are working well for you at this point. Thanks for your feedback!
I'm just checking. These are the Android 3.0 gapps from the XOOM, not the 2.3 gapps? (Sorry I'm a little tired and don't have the emmc version installed, I run the SD card version, so I can't test ATM)

2.3, not 3.0.
Just transferred all the apps and the build.prop to a stale build of eMMC 2nd (3 days of use) and other than using root explorer followed the instructions to a T. My apps seemed to work but not thinking I updated maps in the market and now it doesnt work. Tried to uninstall updates in market (didnt seem to even finish the process), replace with my original apk, replace with apk from your zip here, clearing cache and data. Nothing seems to bring it back to life. Anyone else have this problem?
P.S. I think the white wifi icon looks nice.

Just used a combination of Root Explorer and ADB (for the chmod) to use your mod and everything is working great. Thanks a ton for posting this!
Only change I had to make was the LCD Density in the build.prop since I want to use Zeam. I tried using the default launcher but it is so laggy, I just can't.

Glad all is working for you and that is a good point...I will update the OP to let folks know the build.prop has the LCD Density set at 160, which is not Zeam portrait-mode friendly.
Thanks for the feedback!
Okay, just downloaded the new Amazon Appstore and installed Angry Birds Rio (the first Free App of the Day). Force Close... so I tried both 140 and 160 LCD Densities and still no luck. Tried both of the other Angry Birds (original & seasons) and they force close on all three densities as well.
Any thoughts on why you are able to run them but I can't using the same build.prop? The only thing I had changed from your build.prop was the LCD density, but as I said, even changing it back to match your original setting doesn't make Angry Birds work.
Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons work for me. I had to move them to the internal memory. I already tried moving Rio to internal memory, however it still FC's. I can get the game to almost start, but when it's time to start shooting, it FC's. I haven't tried changing the LCD density.
Same issue here with Rio. Tried internal and no dice. Doesn't run at all when on SD.
I made this for my own use, after getting annoyed with laggy browser using XXKG1. I like the stock browser, and wanted to "fix" it.
Thanks LeoMar75, I used your odexed files
Flash via CWM.

NOTE: this will NOT work if you use a mod that has made changes to some of your framework files. e.g. madmack.
As always, do a nandroid before flashing.
Reserving this.
Is this basically just an odexed browser? What other files does it touch?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Odexed browser and framework files. Apart from that, it wipes cache. That's it.
So this will overwrite anything that touches the framework like battery mods?
It's a shame there isn't an easier way to do mods than buggering around with the apk's
Thanks for the info!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
You can actually open up the zip, and delete framework-res.apk from the framework folder, and then apply it, and your battery mod will stay
And will it still work? This is on a deodexed rom.

Tried it with lite pro rom v2.2 and it got stuck on first boot logo.. Fortunately i did a nandroid backup first :/
I'm playing around with this as we speak.
VR 2.0 LITE.
So .. first problem I encountered: browser always crashed when I start it up BUT it does work with some kinks. Witch I think I can solve.
So how does it work? Well I am a arstechnica reader. In pulse rss reader (if not a subscriber to ars) you get a few lines from the artikel with a button to read the rest of the artikel in the browser. If you press it, you stay in Pulse reader but the engine of the browser is used to display the artikel at it's correct url.
The engine (with all it's hw-acc glory) works. As in: I can browse the page on ars, the comments, even with video's no problem. No laggy **** what so ever.
But ... the frameworks screws **** up a bit. (I think ) So I tried flashing back my old frameworks ... but it didn't work I screwed up my phone
So as we speak I'm reflashing vr2.0 lite.
So what I'll be trying is flashing JUST the browser part (without the frameworks). Lets see if that helps.
Which files does the browser need to work btw? As in: what files should I keep from frameworks? Or is it possible to just delete the whole frameworks folder?
I don't know what happened here! I took my risk and tried to flash it on cognition rom...I delete first framework apk and when I flashed I got an error E: bla bla bla message..I reboot and....no lag at the browser? I don't get it really I don't! Thanks anyway!

Yes. Do a nandroid before hand to be sure
@people having problems with FCs. Not sure why you'd be having that problem, I didn't have any ._.
I'd suggest wiping dalvik and cache and updating if you still get FCs.
many issues with android can be related to caching mechanism...
My script *should* be wiping it anyway.
For myself, I did it manually.
Hey Rawat, I have always been under the impression that mixing odex and dex was not a good idea and has caused problems before when I was working on sgs roms.
Care to give any insight as to how this is not breaking everything? Very curious as I really don't want to load my rom with dolphin browser.

From http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/dalvik/docs/dexopt.html:
There are at least three different ways to create a "prepared" DEX file, sometimes known as "ODEX" (for Optimized DEX):
The VM does it "just in time". The output goes into a special dalvik-cache directory. This works on the desktop and engineering-only device builds where the permissions on the dalvik-cache directory are not restricted. On production devices, this is not allowed.

So, if I understand correctly the odexed file is optimized, but you don't _need_ to have it as the OS will take care of it with some added CPU cycles (which we have enough to go around ) and swap it out to cache. But having the pre-odexed code would do no harm - as I take it - as it is preferred in terms of CPU time, but not necessary. By deodexing firmware you're not taking the odex interpreting code out, just taking out the odex itself. Please correct any ignorance in my thoughts, but I don't really see why you couldn't mix and match.
Am I making any sense at this hour with my medication?
on VR2.0, flashed via CWM and it does not say its done? it just reboots itself to ROM.. the app is there, but FCs after a few sec.. tried deleting framework res, clear cache and dalvik too.. if any VR2.0 user managed to use it flawless, do share how did u managed to
Hmm, taking out the framework apk didn't allow the browser to work unfortunately.. Android loads fine, but the browser force closes as soon as I attempt to scroll a webpage.. Looks like this will only work with an unmodded framework apk like you mentioned.
Sent from my SGS2
So i have been toying around with getting this to work on VR2.0 lite ... but as my earlier post (#9) said .. something is screwing the browser app up.
The engine runs pretty sweet. In multiple apps that use the browser engine to display content on the web everything works fine.
But the browser fc every time I scroll a page.
I read in some post that mixing odex & deodex stuff in the rom is not appreciated by the os. So it could be just a known thing I'm diving into. (I need a second phone to start experimenting since I really don't want to brik my phone)
So .. until I have time and the patience to actually learn how this works under the hood .. I have bad news
[Question] I have been rooting my Streak and installing Busybox pretty much since I got the thing and have always had stability issues. My question is this: could Superuser and/or Busybox be the cause of the instability?
This time around, the only other programs installed are: Angry Birds, ES File Explorer, Go Launcher, Lookout, and Screen Timeout Toggler, which I have downloaded but not actually used yet and is a recent addition to a phone that has had stability issues for a long time.
The setup this time is a Factory reset then install of 354 using the recovery and package from the Wiki. I have the density set to 240. It was unstable at 160 also, so I figured if it is going to shut itself off for no reason, I might as well be able to see the small print on the Maps app. There appears to be no difference in stability between the two density settings. I have also added the AT&T speed tweaks, but these are a recent addition that was begun after I started having the stability problems.
I used ES File Explorer to rename the following apks so far:
amazonmp3
com.facebook.katana (I don't do Facebook)
com.google.android.inputmethod.pinyin-1 (I don't read or write Chinese)
com.twitter.android (I don't Twit either)
EmailStageWidget-release (I use Gmail quite nicely)
HuanYing-Streak-release (again, no knowledge of Chinese)
NeroDellSync (useless app)
SocialStageWidget-release (see Facebook and Twitter)
StageLauncher-release (quite happy with Go)
YouTube (I get better results watching in the browser)
Is there anything I shouldn't have renamed?
Any thoughts on what I might try? This is a very basic kind of setup without a lot of changes from stock. I don't see why I have these stability problems.
Why are you using 354 to begin with?
Having the latest and greatest ROM is not always the best option. So I recommend changing your base ROM to, e.g. 351, assuming of course you have an unlocked Streak. From personal experience I believe you'll have a better result customizing it.
351 and 354 are both 2.2.2, aren't they? I don't understand why one would be better than the other.
Right. However 354 is tweaked for the Asian market, meaning there may be subtle internal differences between the 354 code and 351 code. Differences that may be the source of the instability.
My advice stands. Change the ROM you're using as a base.
Having root is like being the 'normal' vista/win7 user.
(This is assuming UAC is on and working correctly)
You're just a normal user till you hit a UAC prompt, without a prompt you cant modify anything that can seriously change/break the system. Only after passing the prompt will you be able to break/modify stuff, it's not the prompt itself it's whatever is asking for permission. This of course excludes the rare malware that can bypass UAC but that's not the point.
At least on android being rooted is safer as if you have superuser installed malware that tries to secretly gain root by using the standard SU binary will notify superuser and thus the user. While they can likely bypass that it's yet another hurdle just like on pc with UAC vs no UAC. (Though on a pc UAC doesnt give the same equivilent hurdle)

I tried it. I did a factory reset, installed the recovery image, installed 351 from the update package, did a factory reset, and with absolutely no changes to the install, nothing installed except a couple of updates it did on its own, I am lucky to keep it running long enough to open a program.
I want to do the most complete uninstall and reload I possibly can. Is there a way to format the internal card and then reload?
I am just not convinced that installing from the the update.pkg is completely scrubbing the system during the install because it seems like the more I do this loading and reloading of roms, the worse the thing runs. The phone has been unusable today.
a reinstall with stock recovery + pkg + optionally a fac reset is as close as you can to getting a fresh install.
If you mess with wiping partitions in fastboot you WILL super-brick your streak and end up with a paperweight.
If a fac reset after rom reinstall doesnt fix everything you might have a hardware issue
One thing to make sure of.....is to update superuser, and busybox installer.....you do have busybox installed.....i had stability issues, untill I updated these.

Hi! I've been using the search feature and How Tos, but my problem is that I just received a warranty replacement Fascinate for my speaker going out, prior to yesterday I was rolling happily along with CommRom UKB, but now with ED05 already on my phone I'm not sure I want to back track... I want to try ccampos784's [ROM][ED05] PowerWashed ED05 ROM and Debloated Touchwiz ED05 ROM, and I have the zip, I understand how to flash that, but don't I need an odin file? And to get CWM or something? Should I use the ones I have from before (cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar)? and since the Odin file for ED05 is stock, not rooted wouldn't that just be a circle and put me where I am with Stock ED05. My main reason for rooting is Debinging, so... can anyone help me out here please? I think I am just confusing myself more the more I try to research....
download the powerwash ed05.zip and push to your sd
odin cwmall.tar
three finger boot into recovery
wipe data
install zip from sd
Should work fine installing over your current ed05 build...atleast it did for me.
*edit
btw the powerwash ed05 rom is already rooted/debloated/debigned/deodexed/zipaligned/go launcher...etc
Thanks!!!
So Simple and what I've done a bunch of times, I was just making it way more complicated than it needed to be, thanks for the clear "Just do this" Basically. Now I'm embarrassed that I had to ask...
I've rooted and installed roms on other phones before, but this one has me really confused. Currently I've rooted using the ubuntu guide, installed cwm-3-30fix, "modified stock firmware" found in some guide out there that said it was needed to install "latest cwm recovery" which was red 3.xx, curently still on the 2.5cwm 3-30fixall recovery. So should I go back to stock ED04? Update to ED05? Place point me in the direction to install cm7 or other rom. And from what I've read I also need to worry about the modems now? I also tried installing the rom managers recovery, then learned from another thread it doesn't work with the fascinate.

Your question cannot be directly answered, but Ill try my best...
-flash the version of cwm that the rom you are trying to install calls for.
-I use cwm 2.5.1.x for all stock rom's and the older froyo roms
-Some newer roms require cwm3
-All mtd roms such as miui, cm7, VGB require cwm4
Read the vanilla gingerbread thread in the development section and that should bring you up to speed. I recommend to odin the verizon official ed05 package in the development section. One reason being you do not need to flash a modified kernal to get cwm to stick. Also the powerwash ed05 package is debinged/ debloated/deodexed/ zip aligned/ rooted. Its a nice functional rom with some tsm enhancements.
Thank you for giving me a place to start! is there info on the modems/radios in the vanilla thread?

Nice! ill have to play around with that...
Thanks Droidstyle! Now I'm on ED05 powerwash. Nice speed compared to stock. I'm very happy now.
Glad to hear you guys are happy with the ROM! Just as a reminder, the PowerWash ROM has been updated since yesterday up to beta v4 and resolves some issues. Check the main thread for more details.
Is anyone else having problems with app storage on the powerwash ROM?
I originally loaded the ROM and after restoring my backups from Titanium the phone became an unusable due to constant crashes of just about everything imaginable. Tried wiping it and restoring a few apps at a time - worked fine until I rebooted at which point all my prefs were gone and the same crashes started before I could even unlock the screen.
So, I decided maybe it was a problem with my backups and decided I'd start clean. I did a full wipe and discovered that I can't install more than about 4 apps before I start getting insufficient space errors. When I go to settings->phone storage, I still have 1.42GB free under internal phone storage.
I've now done the following procedure twice top-to-bottom, and end up with the same results:
- ODIN ED05 OTA ROM & .pit file.
- Boot into ED05
- Setup Google Account
- Load Market -> Install Maps, all 3 Angry Birds variants, Beautiful Widgets, Pocket Cloud (just a few big apps to prove there is no problem with my hardware and that it works under stock).
- Reboot & ODIN CWM.
- Flash PowerWash beta4, wipe davlik, data, cache, battery stats. Confirm voodoo is off.
- Boot into PWb4.
- Setup Google Account
- Load Market -> Install BW, PocketCloud, Maps, Angry Birds. After this, all additional app installs fail due to insufficient space.
A df from the command line shows 1.4GB free on /data and none of the other partitions are 100% full, so I don't think this is a voodoo-partition-with-a-non-voodoo-kernel problem.
As I said, I've done this whole thing twice. Apps install fine on Stock, fail on PowerWash. Nobody else seems to be complaining, so this must be an obvious thing I'm missing, but I'm not sure what. Any help?
OK, this may not be directly ROM related, but I'm not sure how to work around it. From what I can tell, every time I load the market, it must be background updating from 3.0.26 to 3.0.27. If I go into applications, wipe the data and uninstall the update, I can then go into the market and install one additional app. When I try to install another, I'm told there is no space, but if I go to the Applications control panel, I'll see that I've been upgraded to 3.0.27 again. If I uninstall the update and repeat the process, I can get yet another app, but the process keeps repeating itself.
Is there a way to either lock the 3.0.26 market version or to flash back to the old market?

Want to try this out for me? It flashes back the old market that came with ED05 stock. Flash in CWM, then once you boot up go into settings>applications> Market and clear data and cache on it to clear up any issues.

I had just finished doing about what you are recommending when you posted.
For reference for anyone else - Once I started searching beyond just the fascinate forums, I've found that 3.0.27 causes problems for a lot of people on other platforms (mostly apps over 30MB will fail, but others at random as well), and there doesn't seem to be a way to block the update from 3.0.26. You have to roll back to the 2.x version (which I did), and that seems to fix the problem.
I'd suggest leaving the 2.x version in the future version of the ROM and making the 3.0 market an addon if people want to experiment with it after google hammers out the bugs.
(Alternatively, people have had luck making a temporary /cache partition inside an ext4 img file, but that seems complicated and hacky to include in a ROM).
Thanks!

Actually, this might be fixed soon, since a voodoo kernel is in the making and it uses Ext4 partitions. Can't give you an ETA (and it's not my kernel), but check the couple last posts in the main ROM thread for details.
Using Rooted Samsung Proclaim:
(I have used both of the root kernels and the stock kernel)
I've read multitudes of online problems involving bootloops. I've even fixed one of my own a few months ago using adb. (In that case I renamed the framework-res.apk file because I was messing around with changing the emoticons, this turned out to be a terrible Idea, but easily fixed after about 12 hours of frantic trial and error.) I learned that ADB is quite awesome.
Anyway, I recently used System Tuner Pro to boil the stock Video Player after installing and uninstalling a few video players from the play store. I like to freeze most stock apps to see whether I really want to use them or not. I didn't pay attention to the toast which warned me that I might need to reboot for the change to take affect. So after I couldn't find the Video Player in my apps, I boiled it again. This time noticing the toast warning. So I rebooted. Now I'm stuck at the bootanimation loop.
I can still connect with adb from the bootloader and during the bootanimation loop. I have pulled most of the system files just to see if everything is still in there. I have also removed the VideoPlayer.apk file thinking the double boil had something to do with it. Still loops.
I've tried reinstalling the framework-res file that was still on my computer from the last time I had trouble. It installed just fine but still looping after reboot.
There must be some unresolved conflict during the bootanimation but I have no Idea which files to replace or reinstall. I have even wiped everything using the factory reset in the bootloader. I have attempted to wipe with adb but this always seems to give failures and permission troubles.
Any Ideas?
Well now I've really gone and messed things up. Pretty sure it's out of my realm of possibilities now.
After pushing my wife's (same phone) bin folder into mine i have lost all permissions due to system/bin/sh.
Now I can't do anything with adb except connect to the phone. So technically its all still there.
I just need to write over the bin with my original bin and then I might hopefully be back at the previous problem.
Also, it's looping at the Samsung logo now so I've definitely gone backwards.
This is what I get for messing with things that I don't fully understand.
