Coming from the EVO if I watch a youtube video I can crank it pretty loud. Especially if I cup my hand around the speaker. The speaker volume (speaker phone speaker, not ear piece speaker) on this EVO 3D sucks balls! Wondering if I got a dud or if others notice this too???

Your not the only one! I thought it may have been just me. I was using google Nav and it is very much noticeably quieter then my 4G. So much so I could barely hear it over the road noise in my car. I'm hoping its a software fix and not an indication of a crummy speaker.
Maybe they made it a lighter speaker considering how many broke on the evo 4 g
Me personally, I had to have it replaced twice (on my 4g) N I'm not a frequent user of the speaker phone.

I truly learned about many of this, but never the less, I still thought it was beneficial.
Same here. Sound quality is far inferior to my Evo's. However, certain rom/kernel combo's I used on my Evo would yield radically different audio quality, sometimes so bad that I thought the speaker may have been blown. Switching to a different kernel fixed it. Point is, hopefully it's just got some crummy audio drivers and can be improved upon, hopefully greatly improved upon...because I'm rather disappointed with audio quality at the moment.
On a positive note, it sounds great through my headphones, and the built in sound EQ in the music app isn't too bad either.

The sound quality and volume is great through the headphones. I'm using my Skull Candy's and it is FAR more impressive than my OG Evo. With the stock HTC music app, there is a built in EQ (only for headphones), and it has quite a few pre set options, all of which make noticeable and significant audio changes. I am pleased with audio quality over my headphones. The volume is capable of being too loud, where I wouldn't want it up all the way (not distorted though). That wasn't possible with my OG Evo, it would never really get that loud.
This is one of my biggest gripes so far. Even though the volume on my Epic wasn't fantastic, it is still louder than the 3D. I just hate that the ringtones and notifications aren't as loud.

I can barely hear pandora nw on my Epic 4g it played loud & clear..this is goin 2 be a problem wit me..i always play my music loud when @ work or home any suggestions? I thought this Htc 3d would have came quipped with a decent speaker for music

Especially since on HTC's website it says that it plays louder in your pocket or bag until you pick it up.
Thanks for starting this thread. I think you've convinced me to stick with EVO 4G.
The physically smaller screen (narrower). Resolution is important but so is physical size.
The USB on the side (I like to stand it up while using Google Nav) and power is setup to come in from the bottom on two cars (one being a pro-clip) and another a hole I drill in an drawer on my dashboard. Landscape Navigation is dumb. I want to see where I going more than where I could go.
No Kick Stand (not a biggy).
Suspected lower battery life (yet to be really proven though).
Lower Resolution Camera (for normal non-3D).
And now a worse speaker. I thought the EVO 3D speaker was a step down from the old Touch Pro2. And you folks are saying they stepped it down again. Ugh.
Not Rooted (but will likely happen). I was gonna just wait until it's rooted.
Mushy buttons. Although the camera button looks slick.
Next to being a Good Phone, Navigation is probably my next most important use. And beyond that the next most important is Tethering.
I was really looking forward to a new toy. But I have to be practical sometimes.

Glad I could help you make your decision. As for the screen size, its basically the same. yes its a little taller and more narrow but the resolution makes up for that 10x over IMO.
the usb on the side has its pros and cons to me. I didnt like it on the bottom cause I would plug it in to the car charger and turn on google maps and put the phone in the cup holder and it would sit on the charger which couldnt be too good for it. now that it is on the side it is more uncomfortable to use while its plugged in but once I get a charging dock I think I will like it more.
No kickstand does suck but a lot of the cases they are making come with one if that is a must.
personally, I think the battery life is amazing! but I am comparing it to a 1 year old battery my evo had.
I think camera resolution has nothing to do with anything.
My friends 5MP iphone camera took WAY better pics then my 8MP EVO camera. Besides, this camera takes 3D pics.
The low speaker volume which does suck may be fixed with software once the phone is rooted I'm hoping.
I'm also not in love with the power button. especially now that I put a tpu case on. sometimes takes me a few tries to turn my screen on/off.
And it WILL get rooted. just a matter of time. I'm thinking it will be in the next week or two.

if they dont come up with a fix for the audio iam goin back to my samsung epic unfortunately.i have 2 hear my music..my only MUST is a great speaker for my Pandora when @ work..i have to pull the phone up close 2 hear anything

I have a voodoo'd galaxy s right now which sounds just great as you might well know.
But am looking to upgrade, and this phone seems great because of the 3D which will make it kinda future proof if you will.
Either way, how is sound quality?

The speaker is fairly quiet until you turn it up, but sounds decent. Plug some headphones in, sounds sweet as it adds SRS.

Are you talking about the microphone quality? Its incredibly improved over the evo4g. Stereo and picks up a wide range frequency wise. I was amazed how well it recorded a concert I was at. In fact amazed. My evo4g clipped well before this phone and I haven't clipped the mics yet.
Nah im just talking about how music sounds if you got your headphones plugged it.
coming from an itouch 4g, the sound is much quieter and the sound quality is at most half as good imo, but this is with monitor headphones and 320kbps cbr mp3, if you have **** headphones(beats,skullcandy) then it doesnt matter
I had a GalaxyS with Voodoo sound....this 3devo is as good in the sound, a bit faster in all around use, and a bit faster internet with WiMax.
Once it gets a solid perm root and a few roms it will blow the Vibrant I had (with overstock kernel and a team whiskey rom) right out of the water.
I am getting a loud hiss in my headphones (shure se500) when I plug them in just scrolling through the menus to get to the music and also between songs. Is anyone else having this issue, I just want to know before I got to exchange it. I tried to disable the sound effects and it is still the same.
I get a very minimal hiss in the headphones I've tried (none of which are as good as yours) when an audio app is running but there's nothing playing. I wouldn't characterize it as "loud," but rather noticeable.
On a related note, I've been willing to let the hiss go because the quality is so good when music is actually playing. Coming from an Epic, I've found music quality on the Photon to be outstanding for a phone. Almost as good as my Zune, which always had great audio.

Yea I am just wondering if it is just my phone or if all phones have the same thing
I had to swap my first one out for wonky vibration (definitely a quirky thing) and my new Photon has the hiss as well. I think it's normal.
Well I returned it and got a new one. It is much better. When my headphones were in the old one the hissing was always there through the menus and everything. On the new one it hisses very low only when playing a music file. So I am happy with that. Also as a side note the screen is much more clear and not as pixalated and the back cover fits wat tighter and there is a rubber backing on the cover that holds the battery in tight.
How does everyone feel about the sound quality? BEATS rolleyes sounds ok, a bit "overblown."
The real issue, is that compared to my iPhone 4s; the rezound doesn't sound as good. It sounds better than my GS2, but I honestly feel like the 4s has better sound. Anyone else have any input?

I think it may depend on the type of Music you listen to man. I listen to mostly rock/hard rock and both the Beats and SkullCandy buds I have sound awesome on the phone! If you install another EQ, I found using the HTC Music app it will screw with Beats. You can only use the alternate EQ outside of HTC Music, like in Google Music, etc. My phone sounded like absolute **** on HTC Music with both Beats and the other EQ on at the same time. Since most other EQ's run in the background, I didn't realize what was going on and almost got pissed off.
I listen to all sorts of stuff. I was lying in bed last night with three sets of headphones, and iPhone 4s, and my rezound. Comparing all sorts of stuff. The same parts of the same track, beats on/off, etc.
No extra equalizer on either.
I can only compare it to my iPod from 2005 and first gen zune but I think it sounds much better, honestly. I listen to rock only, though. I think the ear buds are pretty nice. I never really use earbuds because I use over the head cans for recording etc, but I think these sound pretty good on here!

Thats kind of my point, I wouldn't say the rezound sounds "bad" by any means. It sounds quite good actually! It sounds better than my GS2.
I just think maybe the iPhone sounds better. I will do more "testing"

Beats on or off or other EQ etc...
What you were listening on
I want to know how it sounds when connected to a car or home theater system. My thunderbolt sounds just fine with headphones but connect it to a car or HT system and there is quite a bit of hiss included with the audio. This has persisted over multiple roms, kernels, and apps. I imagine the hiss is still there with headphones as well but the volume is less when using headphones. When connected to an external amplifier, the volume is maxed just to get a reasonable signal to the other device.

I stated all that? I tried apple in ear, beats that came with the rezound, and my shure SE215s.
I tried beats On and Off, that was part of my first post.
Just using the standard HTC music app and the standard iphone music app.
I use my rezound to listen to audiobooks on my long commute hooked up to the car, i'm actually not into car audio at all, so I wont' be any help there. I don't notice any kind of hiss with the rezound, I definitely had it with the garbage Bionic. I usually keep the rezound a notch below max and compensate with the car volume.
My Rezound has weak audio threw the speaker... not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. Choppy, distorted and low, but it might be because of the type of music. Most of my music has a lot of bass.
The reason other EQs sound bad w/ BA enabled is because BA when on is a custom EQ setting. In other words you shouldn't mix 2 EQ settings together, BA(beats audio) is simply a EQ profile made by HTC or Beats.
what ace said. if someones using Eq with beats, then sigh lol...
but i don't have an iphone4s to try out, so i don't have a comparison..all i've got is a 6 year old ipod that isn't even a touch lol

'call quality' is comparable to the Incredible 2(and definitely better then the Thunderbolt), especially when using Skype.
'sound quality', not really an improvement per se, just they add in a custom 'Beats' EQ to the stock player to try and awe people.
all beats is is a custom EQ setting with more emphasis on lows + you can't even adjust the EQ to your liking. the headphones are ok for being throw ins, but the Bose headphones for around the same price have a bit better clarity and the bass response is a bit better to(just that the dres hit a tad harder).
I'm not trying to put down the phone(heck I bought one) or anything... it does have a really nice screen and performs slightly better then an overclocked Thunderbolt(probably due to Google doing a poor job with the dual-core architecture).... but if you bought/want this phone just because of the whole "Beats By Dre" bit, then you've been had sucka!
p.s. btw, the one thing Apple has done with pure excellence is iphone/ipod EQ. probably the best out there period.
i believe i read somewhere the beats eq is an active eq that constantly adjusts to compensate for frequency loss etc. if so, that's a nice feature.
I don't care who invented beats anyways, I love Monster's products, and this is one of them, lol. People are under the perception this is a Dr. Dre owned and operated business, wrong. It's just the branding, and like the above said, to awe people.

Maybe, but check the engadget review of sensation xe, they show you the eq settings of beats audio.

The external speaker on my Incredible sounded louder than the one on my Rezound, although through the beats headphones music sounds great. At times it's a little too bass heavy for me because I listen to a lot of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and the bass drum and detuned bass guitar over power the guitars and vocals.

I had a thunderbolt before this and I hook my phone up through AUX input in my truck EVERY time I drive it. The quality of sound that comes from the rezound is light years ahead of my thunderbolt. Like its a night and day difference, even in pandora the sound quality is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better. I never had the hiss you speak of but I the sound was just super low compared to this phone. Yesterday we had my phone and an iphone4 hooked up through the AUX port in 2 different cars and it didn't matter what we played it sounded better on mine. I will say that the other two guys with me preferred the Power amp app over the stock music player with beats.

To be honest I don't care much about call quality. I hate talking on the phone.
I just figured marketing this phone with beats and audio and packing in decent head phones they may have used some nice hardware as well. I'd love to see a total teardown and chip li st.

So, I got my One yesterday and I've been playing around with it quite a bit since then. I have to say that the speakers didn't really blow me away, but they are a lot better than most phones I have heard. I think it is quite silly of HTC to be bombarding the TV with commercials about the speakers when the camera is a better feature in my opinion. Anyways, I tried the included headphones and was pretty disappointed with them. They felt cheap as hell and I thought that the sound coming out of them was pretty crap. Thankfully, I recently purchased a pair of Klipsch Image x10s so I threw them on and I was very impressed with the sound coming out of the phone. It is super powerful. I am listening at 75-80% right now and it is almost painful. The Beats audio "enhancement" is pleasureable to me, but in reality is just adding some low end emphasis to the EQ settings. Still, it results in a fuller sound and I am porbably going to leave it on permamnently given how night and day the difference is through the BoomSound speakers without it. I know a lot of people have been saying that the audio quality wouldn't be as good as the S4 because that has the holy Wolfson DAC, but I have to say that I think the audio coming out of the One is clean, crisp, and has no appreciable noise as far as I can tell. What do you guys think?
Ya my wife usually makes fun of all my android phones when it comes to audio output volume / clarity compared to her iPhone. For the first time ever she was very impressed. That's as unbiased as it gets.

I agree. though I would argue the speakerphone is better than the camera, relative to my last phone at least, the note 2. speaker was pretty loud on that, but quality was bad. The one is louder and more clear for me, while I'm kinda meh about the picture quality.

first is with a 15w florescent bulb lighting my room at night and -2 sharpness, and the second is with my monitor being the only ambient light in night mode. Good? Yes. Better than my note 2 was? probably. Great? Eh.
though on a note: I was surprised in the second one: the photo is actually a little brighter than the scene was to my actual eyes. somewhatimpressed/10
