I'd like to provide a categorized overview of the rom "market" since there are a lot of available in very different states of functionality.
If I have time I want to add short descriptions to each rom (or anyone can provide descriptions and I'll add it to the first post)
Please drop me a line if any updates or new releases show up.
Please don't fight over credit, "Cook" doesnt has to be equal to main contributor. Credits are always given in the ROM-thread.
If you have anything to add or found errors, please post a reply or drop me a pm.
Camera/Camcorder in 2.1-2.3
In 2.1 Stock based ROMs Camera and Video-Recording will work as in Stock-ROM, however in 2.2 & 2.3 the camera might work and the camcorder-function works at most with camera illusion (but only 15fps in VGA).
New Libs allow Recording with Stock Camera in 848-Mode with 25 FPS and Autofocus. Finally even 720p is possible on 2.2 "Froyo"

well done mate, dont know if this would be much more of a hassle, but maybe if you could put under each rom the main components that are still missing? (e.g. camera/camcorder/bluetooth/wifi etc.) not all the small bugs such as the WLOD just the big ones, as I know that will enable this list to provide a good outlook for new people to select a rom that will suit their needs.
Thanks to all the devs/cooks and especially J&Z team for everything they have done so far!
Great Initiative. Always wanted to see the rom list in one thread!!!
I'll sum up, that in the 2.1 based ROMs camera and camcorder will work and 2.2 & 2.3 the camera works most of the time, however the camcorder function works at most with video illusion (15fps at vga)
nice work!
please add the 2.1 AOSP ROM from here also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835308
2.1 AOSP added.
Is video stream (you tube, etc) works on 2.3.2- 2.3.3 roms?

Stickyyyy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So Trip actually stopped producing ROMs or ? He's great >.<
trips last rom was pulled by mods because it had warez (root explorer) in it. he'll come back.
Also I expect a working and non working features in the roms..and ofcourse there shud be 3 polls for 2.1,2.2 and 2.3 and see which one scores best!!
to be honest, i dont have the time to test all roms and read tru all threads. so every input is welcome.
Added useful tools like flashtool and basebands and generic roms

Hello.
I have a very old Hero and got interested in updating it.
I see that Gingerbread 2.3.3 is the latest version, however I don't find any ROM that has it, I only find TastyGinger 1.x which has 2.3.2, why not 2.3.3? And it turns out that the new TastyGinger release (2.0) is marked as "2.3" instead of "2.3.2", does it have an older Android or what?
I've seen also that a lot of people say that Flash doesn't work on Hero. However it's working in mine (Android 1.5), is this because it's Flash Lite? How can I know that? Will the new Gingerbread ROMs include this version of Flash?
Thanks very much.
Hi there
Flash only works with sense roms (Sense is graphic UI that You have probably on Your 1.5 hero). It's flash lite, not full version.
Regarding gingerbread roms - Tasty Ginger haven't received an update for a while.
Gingerbread roms won't include flash, unless some genius dev (with help of few Igors and a trusty thunderstorm) creates a sense gingerbread ROM...but don't hold Your breath, it's almost impossible
cheers!
brat.haneq
PS. if You need working flash - try some of the custom 2.1 roms. VillainROM12, RCMix to name the few. I remember that there is 2.2 ROM with sense, but camera is not working on that one.
I can recommend elelinux 7.0 roms, and Cyanogen 7 rom.
Both u can find on this site ( under 'development' for hero)
elelinux rom works very well
Root that Hero and put Cronos Ginger on it. latset build is a 2.3.3

i was flashed on my hero cronos ginger in my hero and i was seen some of bugs...
the call and home buttoms doesnt work... and the net navigator is too slow for me.
in addition doesnt have aScreen of blockade, but it can not to be a problem..
certainly... anyone have the flykernel 12a working on Android OS 2.3???

My girlfriend uses my Hero with Elenux 7 and the flykernel. It seems to be stable.
Elelinux 7.0.0 rc2 is rlly stable also is cm7 nightly 18 and if you are looking on a rom with flash tht is updated u can try VillianRom 13 or Tegro 2.5rc3 which are both sense one rosie and other expresso consecutively
the flykernel 12a that i unloaded of XDA no works in any of gingerbread roms, there´s anyone person that have the same problem???
my RADIO IS 63.18.55.06SU_6.35.17.03 THANKS!!!!!
Elelinux 7.0.0-RC2-Hero-v1.5... Works perfect.
elelinux gingerbread rom is great...but I recommend a 2.3.2 rom instead...
there is a memory leakage bug that makes my phone unstable in 2.3.3 roms
elelinux v1.6 just came out yesterday, which presumably fixes the leak. I just installed it a few minutes ago, going to test it now

i was flashed elelinux 7.0.0 RC1 and RC2 BUT THE flykernel 12a doesnt works in my hero. i think that its a interface trouble only in my device.
any person with the same problem? i´m going to lookintg for another kernel and later go to post it here?
desire mee good luck!!!!
ei! i´m with RAKERN 113 with gingerbread (elelinux 7 rc2) ane works fine... a little bit of battery drain but.... it´s a little sacrifice for a good performance.
elinux 7.0 is smooth. it does not have any problem on my hero starting from v0.7 to v1.6

I'm running Free X10 at the moment. I've been away for abotu a month and just checked the dev forum which appears to be swamped with roms and other things...
So... which is the latest, stable rom with a fully working camera and camcorder please (i.e. which rom should I be using to keep full functionality of my phone)?
Welp if you woulda asked yesterday i woulda recommened Trips MIUI but im gonna have to go with wolfbreaks ROM or Z's 2.2 if you want a smooth and complete ROM. Both are basically almost 100% stable.
There are a few 2.2 roms. I've only really used wolfbreaks and kxhawkins, both are stable, with full functionality. rdannar has a stable 2.3.3 rom(which I'm currently using as my baseband is 54 and don't want to change), very fast and stable but, as with all 2.3 roms, no camera.
I would have suggested tripnraver miui, but it seems to have gone missing

It basically depends on what type of rom you want.
2.1 roms
2.2 roms
2.3 roms
MIUI is the way to go if you like iphone like style. Currently you have few versions floating around and one of the best MIUI roms is not available anymore. These MIUI ROMS are again based on 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 versions of android. 2.3 is the lastest and greatest and is lamost fully working when it comes to MIUI. I think the one you can get from forum is rdannar's and formels and rdanner's MIUI roms
If you want the Android like roms, then there are lots of 2.1 roms are floating around. If you want to be with stock SE features along with a nice root and camera, then 2.1 rom is the way to go
2.2 roms which were intermediate (intermediate because now we have 2.3 roms) which was originally unstable but now is 100% stable thanx to all our important developers which may not (or may ) have all the SE features.Once you step to 2.2 and above roms, you will lose the SE syncml options (the one which syncs to SE site) and you will be dependent on the google sync mostly. Wolfbreaks and Rendiero's roms were extremely popular in 2.2 roms
2.3 roms which is the latest and greatest of all but not many roms to choose from. We have SuperAOSP, SuperARc and now HD MIUI from rdannar, Cyanogenmod7 from Jerpelea which are popular but you have many new chefs now so you can expect to see more ROMS
I am not biased towards any developer. I just look at the way the ROM functions and also these are my views. So dont use this as means of fighting. I personally like Android based style more than iphone style so i have tried only one or two MIUI roms so far (One was Trips MIUI and the other was formel's by rdannar (i think) were very stable and fun to use)
But personally, I like Android style a lot. So i was always juggling between Wolfbreak's and Scamble's rom before i completely shifted towards 2.3 roms.
Now i juggle between CM7 from J, SuperAOSP and SuperARC with greater affinity towards SuperAOSP since i find it very stable
Cobrato's 2.2 MIUI is awesome you should try it

CM7 based roms I tried either keep rebooting or apps keep closing. Maybe I should try CM6 roms... Is the above list in order of stability (decreasing)?
You bro this dev section this is q&a were not ment to post here unless its about development but froyo bread ftw
admins can move this to the appropriate section.
well, as far i know, the cyanocomb 1.4 (#3) is working perfectly without any glitches. android 2.3 versions had some problems as well they are performing lil slow.
Froyobread is the best one out there. It is also the only one made by a real dev. All other roms are kind of copys.

This is what I meant, all roms are copys (except from stock roms) but some people want to take credits for things that arent theirs while they only styled it a bitt. (just realese a themeing apk for on top of an other rom or something than it would be cool)
With FroyoBread it is atleast known who created it.
We really dont need a dev team as Doxianh is responsible for everything usefull in our Minis!!
The best rom is most definitely 2.1.1.C.0.0.
No other custom rom can compete with it. I'm sick of all these Bull**** wannabe custom roms which are copied and pasted along different releases.
EVERY custom rom I have EVER tried for the mini pro has reboot issues amongst other serious problems.
They are ALL CRAP. After over half a year of "tweaking and fixing" these crappy roms, you are left with...even more crap.
Do yourself a favor and flash an official firmware. Slap Launcherpro on it and call it a day.
Mod please move this !
Im using now MiniCM7Pro, as you can see on my signature, so... What rom do you think is the best for U20i?
- MiniCM7Pro (by paul-xxx)
- Ginger-T0n (by slade87)
- Mini CM6 (by slade87)
- Ginger-DX v007 (by D4rKn3sSyS)
- SonyBread v5 (by paul-xxx)
Remember to give all the credits to them!
I ran on Paul's rom a few days (from V4 o V6) and then I tried GingerDX v007 which runs faster in my opinion. Also it drains less battery. But it has some bugs that annoy me like when the screen goes to sleep on his own and you have to unlock it again.
minicm7pro: very stable and fast...totally bug free cam5mp
gintonic.SE: umm very good but thre are a few bugs in there
minicm6: fast and stable...but i prefer cyanocomb1.4 as a froyo rom (froyobread is also awesome)
gingerdx: very good rom. v005 is the best version i guess
Thnks for everyone who answered, im still using MiniCM7Pro and after Slade finish his GinTonic I will change
mine I use paul's minicmv6 works fine but no data connection
I am using GingerDx since this morning , it is super quick ( web pages load much faster than stock or slades cm6.0)
I use kislers modified version which fixes the wifi bug many people have been experiencing in v007.
When i installed v007 i got the same wifi problem so i tried starting fresh with Kisler's version and all is working well.
Link below
LINK
I don't know if Slade will pick up where he left off, but D4rKn3sSyS's ROM seems to be the best bet.
another vote for gingerdx. it's been the best rom i've tried so far.
*bump* any updates on roms? battery life is priority of course
