[Q] NY Times App on HC? - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Tried installing the regular NY Times app on HC, but never launches. There is supposedly a tablet version out there, but not sure it will work on the HC preview. Anyone able to get this running? or even the non tablet version? if so how?

Running tablet version on Honeycomb EMMC. Had to add "tablet" to the description in the 'build.prop' file to make the Market understand I am on a tablet.

Thanks.
I found another line you can add to Froyo's build.prop (which is what I'm running):
ro.build.characteristics=tablet
add just after the ro.buid.fingerprint line
After that, NYTimes Tablet showed up.
Edit:
LOL, I need to start reading entire posts. I see you mentioned that at the top of your post

for the life of me, I couldn't tell the difference between the phone version and the tablet version. installed them both to compare and was stumped.

There's really not any difference. I was hoping for something significant like Gmail for tablets, but there wasn't

If you are running an OCed kernel, you might see smooth performance out of the Chrome-specific NY Times website.

It works 100% only on CM7. I have read that on Vegan you have to replace some libs then Netflix will work but kind of not full screen.
I was on froyo myself but have to flash CM7.0.3 for Netflix sake... and btw I don't regred it.
Yeah I might do it too, I kinda want netflix
what about vegan ginger any way to get it set up rc1 7.0.0

VEGAn-ginger is built off CM7.00 source. Netflix doesn't work on anything below CM7.03. Not sure of all the changes cyanogenmod team did between 7.00 and 7.03 but gojimi would need to resync to their source and merge any changes he made to the code back in.

So the new netflix app is 1.2.2?
I got the same popup that an update is available. I hit "NO" on the update but i was still able to watch netflix. I am on CM7. I wonder if i need to update at all if it lets me watch without it.
So can anyone post that this 1.2.2 Netflix app works on CM7? Did you have to uninstall your current netflix first? then Installed this new one.

Yes, it's original Netflix 1.2.2 working just fine with cm7.0.3 stable rom.
Try to clear data for your netflix and then reinstall it.
Btw, I also have my build.prop file modified with HTC and HTC Vision.

Yes, I know... newer version of Netflix does not do device support check routing, so build.prop does not needed. It's just left over from previous versions of Netflix.
used the 1.2.2 version with BOS + modified build.prop and still get device not supported errors.
Same apk works on my froyo evo4g
Any ideas on what to try next?

On the CM Nightly versions you have to edit the build.prop file.
I believe all you have to do is change malata to HTC in this line.

Thanks for that, I couldn't find a clear answer after searching.
One would think that they (netflix) would be scrambling to get support on the new tablets like the Xoom or the Transformer.

Dissapointed.
Well IMHO I think it is awesome. The syncing works great. Can't figure out how to swipe between tabs like on the phone version though. Text entry into open fields is much better than stock. Also a neat feature when a bunch of links are close together this magnified pop up window opens to let you choose. See the screenshot attached.
Start with your finger on the bezel, and swipe onto the screen. If you have multiple tabs open you will notice it highlights a certain tab depending how much you go left or right.
It's pretty sensitive so it's easy to miss what it's doing at first.
I dont mind it so far. I like that it is reminiscent of the desktop version.
Bookmark pages could be more attractive.
Seems everyone is a little harsh for a BETA

CM9 A2 and latest Chrome Beta Update... not compatible

I just updated my Chrome Beta from the Market... and now it's refusing to start!
I get an error message "Chrome is not supported for your version of Android. Version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwitch) is the minimal supported version"
HAHAHA!!! What the heck! I am on ICS!!!
So be aware... do not update Chrome!
I am on CM9 A2... was working fine until I went to market... noticed an update... installed update... BOOM!!! not compatible!
I cleared data... uninstall and reinstall... no dice.
If you do a search for Chrome it shows up... installs fine... which would mean that it's supported but it's not.
So do not update to the latest Beta. Wait until Google figures out what's wrong with it first.
Damn... now I have to see if I had made a back up of the old one... Does any one have an apk of the previous builds?
Got it back!!! I didn't have a backup but my Captivate ICSSGS V4.2 had Chrome Beta... without the latest update... I got Chrome working on TP working again. Phew!!! I was starting to like Chrome a lot on my TP...

YEAH What the heck, I did the same thing as you, I downloaded the update and bammmm "Chrome is not supported for your version of Android"
Ohh come on...
I am so glad I saw this thread before I updated Chrome on my TP. I installed ICS on my GS2 today and saw the update. It ran fine on there (it's a "custom" ROM based on the stock rom), but when I got home that would have been the first update I ran on the TP. It's a good thing the WiFi here at the office doesn't work in CM9, else I'd be in the same boat!

It's rather laggy browser, yes. Loading time is not nice on TPm and on SGS it's nearly unusable because of the ram consumption.
By the way, it's not the Google who is breaking Chrome, it's CM9

Yea so I switched between 320 and 240...it seems google took out 240 support with this update. Oh well, the older version was working well enough for me anyways.
I know it sounds snobby or whatnot but it really is hard to go back to 320 after a week at 240...

Guess we'll just have to wait till someone ports it to our Note.

Instructions are simple:
"replace original SamsungCamera.apk in system\app\ with this one using e.g. “Root explorer” or something… You need a rooted Device!"
Since it's just an apk, there shouldn't any harm in just testing it out -- just be sure to make a nandroid backup and be prepared to use adb to push the original SamsungCamera.apk back to /system/app if it causes any sort of bootloop/fails.
My suspicion is that it does rely on some of the S3's unique framework or lib files, and the camera hardware itself is also different, so it probably won't "just work"... but ya never know! lol
I also posted on HyperX's site to see if he has any interest in getting it ported to our i717...
