When I connect my Dell streak to any PC through USB, the Dell Sync program starts up and wants to connect. I do not use or want to use this, so it is a slight nuisance. Is there a way to disable this behavior or remove the Dell Sync all together? There is not an option for uninstall of this application in the application manager.
Thank you
I have uninstalled that app with no issues whatsoever,I used this app "uninstaller for root".
So far I have removed all the apps that came with my unlocked Dell Streak with no issues all.
You can always use Titanium Backup to freeze that application and it will not start.
bloat freezer works good my mom has it on her captivate!
Thank you for the great suggestions...
Thank you for the great suggestions. I went with the bloat freezer and it worked like a charm. I also froze a few other apps that I will never use... Maybe even increase performance! W00T!

I have some apps that I don't want to remove from my Streak but I don't want them to start up on their own. Examples are Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Mail. There are others, too. I keep them on the Streak as backups (since I sometimes have problems connecting via IM+ or the regular e-mail app). Therefore I only want them to start up when I open them and stay closed after I have killed them. Is that possible?
I currently use Droid Wall to deny them data access when I don't want to use them but they still run in the background eating up memory and sucking the life out of my battery.
Dont know of anything other than a task killer. Can set the security to your desired level, and also to kill everything when the screen turns off, and also generate an ignore list which is essential for some apps like alarm clock....if you want to get up for work on time. They're a little controversial but I find a notable difference in battery life without it.

I have a task killer which I use manually. However, when I kill those apps they come right back up only seconds after that. Can't keep those buggers down. And with Auto Kill they are just constantly being killed again and again.
i used to use an app called "autostart(s)" which did the job really well plus it offers loads of options for apps starting at boot and permissions. titanium lets you freeze apps but you need to defrost them before using again.

Thanks for the suggestion -- I am currently trying out Autostart Kill which seems to work reasonably well, except that some apps are not found by the program (an example is Amazon MP3) and Dell Sync comes up after connecting via USB even though I set it to disabled.
By Titanium I suppose you mean Titanium Backup, but I cannot find a "freeze" (or similar) option, at least not in the free version I am using
Click the app in the list - you will have there freeze option.
It is available in the paid version only
Thanks for all the help, guys.
Finally located that Autostarts app in the market --- had to set market enabler to Verizon to find it. Trying it right now, and it seems to work pretty well.
I hope they're working for you?

Yes, but yesterday I had 3 mysterious auto reboots. Since I had just installed several apps I am not sure which one is the culprit. I have removed some of the others. Now I will have to see what happens today.
i tried autostarts but when the streak goes standby (black screen) it wont come alive anymore and i have to pull the battery out to reboot.... uninstalled

Thank you! Autostarts is what I want~
Try system tuner
System tuner has free version in market. Will perform many functions including "freeze" and then you can "boil" app when it is needed. Also can set which apps run (or don't) at startup.
hey bro, u can use any autostart killer like autostarts (red car), or u can use autostart disabler inside romtoolbox
it work 100%
I just got the LG Optimus T (via T-Mobile). There are some pre-installed applications I'm having trouble deleting; it seems like they start automatically. One is Wifi Calling. I can't kill the app with a task killer. I also can't force quit and uninstall in Application Management (in settings). How can I delete this application, and others like it? Do I have to boot the phone a certain way? Please help!
Thanks,
-Adam
You'll need to root your phone, then remove it with another app called titanium backup. Everything you need to know is here.
yup. I got the same phone. z4root works great on it. Titanium should do the job. If it freezes during uninstalls try a different version of Titanium.
After hacking the phone to run webtop without the docks, I was just going about my phone and was curious about the "System updates" button and got this:
Social Networking account required
"com.android.setttings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate" is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button
When I click the setup button, nothing happens. Did I mess up one of the files during the process of hacking my phone, because before attempting the webtop hack, when I still had root and adeo on, I did not get this message.
Account syncing: my facebook account will not sync with the contacts on my phone. The social networking app and widget is not running properly for the same reason as from the message given above ^^.
Can someone help me with this? Thanks
Did you use Titanium Backip to freeze apps. This is a symptom of freezing apps. To get this to work unfreeze all your apps and make sure the MotoBlur account is syncing.
I didn't use titanium backup to freeze any of the apps. I'm still kind of new to android and so I might need some guidance in more simpler terms
Did you create a blur account?
yes and it was already linked when I received my unit on the 21st
would it be reasonable to attempt a factory reset, even though I rooted it and installed ADEO?

What exactly does freezing do? I can't seem to find a answer on the net. Can one manually "defrost" a frozen app?

I think so, I'm pretty sure TiBu just adds a ".bak" to the application because when you freeze something it's still in your app drawer until you restart your phone vs when it's uninstalled its gone instantly. The benifit to freezing vs uninstalling is if you freeze the wrong thing or want it back it's still there, but if you uninstall it it's gone and you'd need to ask someone else for it or something.
anyone solved this error? I also got the error today
Is your phone deodexed? That could be the problem maybe.

like widgets? such as "apmobiles", seems to be a newspaper sort of thing i will never read. i also can't uninstall social/music/gaming/book hubs? i'm in the setting/applications/manage applications bit.
i want to basically delete a LOT of apps then only install what I need? i'm new to smartphones, moved from a nokia keypad phone. so the galaxy s2 was a massive jump for me.
Have a search for titanium backup and root. You'll need to root your phone 1st before you can 'freeze' but not remove apps.
The phone is brand new and it will take a while before custom roms that let you remove apps are available.
If I were you I'd wait before rooting as it is still a bit complicated and simpler methods will come along soon, I'm sure. I'd use the time to read the guides and get familiar with the phone.
Bear in mind that rooting/custom roms will lose you your warranty. Also, I'm not too worried about app removal as the phone has plenty of memory for my needs. Just remove the apps you don't want from the home screen and put on the ones that you do.
Edit: just wanted to clarify that I was referring to removing pre - installed apps.

Thanks for that, it's that I also noticed that there are services running in the background from applications that I'm not using, like I have the apmobile service running and also a social hub service running even neither is open. And I at least want to remove app shortcuts from the menu.
You'll need to root and freeze to remove the shortcut from the app drawer. I really wouldn't do that until you've read up and are confident though.
There are other threads about the social hub, have a search. I think you'll need to reset the phone and then not add any accounts if you want to stop it from being active.

To add-up about removing the widgets (probably you've found it already though), you only need to hold down the widget and slide it down to an area says remove
this phone comes with a built in task manager and a widget that shows you active tasks, i use the widget on my phone's desktop to close apps as needed ( i know the phone can handle it but its just my own thing lol ) and from there, there's a tab that lets you uninstall apps as well.
ofcourse you wont be able to uninstall those that came with the phone just yet.
I rooted mine which was dead easy and was my first time so you'll be fine. Download AntTek app manager from the market its free and lets you freeze, delete and backup any apps and widgets you want. You will no longer have any of those crap apps working in the background draining your battery. Hope this helps.
Edit: Oh yeah the built in task manager doesn't show system apps working in the background or at least not all so well worth freezing or removing them.
Any ideas on how to remove bloatware? Such as McAfee and other stuff? Titanium backup cant remove even with root, after rebooting its still there.
My apps when updatin saying "not enough space"=(
Thats a good question, I have a bunch of apps that are disabled.
I'm going to give this method a try and i'll report back:
http://www.kingoapp.com/root-tutorials/how-to-remove-bloatware-on-android.htm
**Update**
I was able to uninstall everything I wanted to, the app is actually pretty nice because you can place things in the "trash" incase you don't want to entirely delete them (such as with My Dell and the Dell Camera). I still have the toggles for Dell Cast and My Dell in the drop down but they don't do anything and I do not get any type of error which is nice.
I used rom manager pro it has the built in app manager and root browser. Successfully removed skitch and maxx audio. (Scared to do to much until device has its own recovery....also worth noting if they are disabled the app manager won't find them to uninstall.
