[Q] Honeycomb on Samsung Fascinate - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
Does anyone have a stable Honeycomb Port that will work on Verizon's Samsung Fascinate? My Fascinate buttons failed on me and really would like to use the phone until the DROID Bionic launches. Any help is appreciated!

Gingerbread isn't even fully working on our phones yet, how would we have Honeycomb?

Hey if u want it so bad, why dont u donate some money to developers eh?
You are just another person who uses it FOR FREE w/o any support.
Being that said, Currently Kaos is working on making stable Gingerbread.
Not even eb01/eb16 is not complete.
So it might take a while for kaos.
Plz do support developers by donating some money.

Just because I am new to the forum, does not make me a troll. But thanks for the vote of confidence. If there was someone working on what I was looking for, I would gladly contribute to their efforts.

The current version of Honeycomb isn't designed to run on a phone. Even if someone was working on it, it would take an awful lot of work to get anything functional.

Thanks Kevin for your intelligent post.

Any ideas, if it would work? I think it can, I've seen some ports for Wildfire being made, so I guess that Optimus with better specs should be able to run it just fine!
Do you know of any plans to make 2.3 ROM?
Lets wait. It's possible I think and perhaps there will come an official update.
Well, Its working on the Droid Eris and the Wildfire which are both around the same speed and size of the LGOO, so im sure it will run well on this phone with a little OC. we can only wait to see how the devs piece a ROM together.
I am looking into it now.
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/12/07/lg-gingerbread-hardware-requirements/
As it stand now, any port of Gingerbread on our phones will have to be done by us because some LG noob Social Rep on FB lied and said 2.3 requires a 1ghz CPU, thus they will not be making an update. THERE IS NO DAMNED HARDWARE REQUIREMENT! Weather that is LG's 'official' stance or not.. who knows.
Personally, I see no good damn reason why it should not be possible to some extent (parred down version, or 2.3 included with OCable kernel custom ROM).
Thus my experiments have begun.
If anybody reading this wants to help, just PM me, and I will gladly take any assistance on this project.
Peer pressure?
Hahaaha
They "suddenly" changed their minds
We will get Gingerbread, it's official.

Glad to hear better from official sources. I still think the community can make it nicer.

hope for 2.3 ? or switch

There has been very little in the way of Gingerbread development for the Vibrant.
Rom cooks seem to have deserted us.
Edit: The thing is guys, Team Whiskey has been regularly releasing stuff for Nexus S. Is there not any possibility they might have switched ? [my point about switching is mostly rhetorical. Cant afford to switch im poor]
A member pointed out that our rom cooks only take samsung leaks and plug up their issues and make roms. I didnt believe him and reported him for flamebait.
I am not so sure anymore. Please can someone reassure me ?
If no one is bringing out Gingerbread on this, what hope do i have of seeing Honeycomb on this thing ?
I am not trolling. Just looking for some hope. Because every time i turn the computer on, the first thing i do is refresh the Vibrant Android Development forum and check for some updated rom which includes a significant chunk of Gingerbread.
Dude I would say its obvious that some of the activity may have died down due to people spending time with their families and what not as it has been mentioned, I would say hold out for a little while at least.. Even Supercurio is working on bettering his Voodoo project which will lead to more success... It may seem as if we have been getting bread crumbs at this point but I am optimistic that it will pick up..

Team Whiskey is working on bringing Gingerbread to the Vibrant as we speak...there is an EXPERIMENTAL build that sombionix put up...but porting it is easier said than done....Team Whiskey is the among the best in the business...and they're build has a few things that are not working...but it runs on our Vibrant...
Bottom line: Have patience....Gingerbread will come soon enough...
Thank you battlekry & fearless1964 for the hope. Much appreciated.

Any interest for CM7? (POLL)

hey there everybody!!! Real proud owner of the Photon and while I really like it alot I would love to see some CM7 action on this beast. Just wondering if anybody else would be interested in have CM7? Perhaps if we show the devs that there is a nice size group of peeps interested maybe they will start on it if they haven't already.
Hit the poll up and let's see what kind of results we get. Let's try to encourage the devs to do it!!!
Edit: looks like there is at least one dev that I can see who is starting work on porting CM7 to the Photon. Let's give him all the support we can and let him know we appreciate him for his work!!

Would love to see this, especially now that they fixed the 4g issue I believe on the Atrix. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Either way it would definitely be sweet, can't imagine how fast it would be. Good thread, seems to be picking up around here, nice to see!

Yes whoever is responsible for it, just talk to the Atrix guys. Its very very similar. With a few changes the current prebeta3 of the atrix would probalby boot on our photon

Stock photon isn't bad, but I still feel it has a lot going on running in the background I can do without, im just afraid of deleting something that's tied into the framework. ASOP would scream on this phone.
Who is the dev? And I have talked to 4 devs from the miui forums and a few cm7 devs from xda and it seems the only thing thats holding them back from getting the photon is $$$ many are college students stretching the little they have for food. So I can say this, if we could some how start a bounty with a goal large enough to purchase a few phones for those that are willing to port miui/cm7/sense to this beast...endless development would be on the horizon.

There's one thing that would make it perfect -- a tweak to the behavior of ScrollView so it always scrolls/pans the contents some whole multiple of two pixels. This would effectively solve the blur/shimmer problem caused by the RGBW PenTile display.
Scrolling NOW causes black text on white backgrounds to shimmer when it moves by one pixel because it's oscillating between getting rendered by 1 (W) and 3 (RGB) subpixels. If you snap to even offsets, you'll ensure that a pixel that starts out being rendered by a RGB triad is still rendered by a RGB triad after moving, and a pixel that starts out being rendered by a bWr triad is still rendered by a bWr triad after moving. Scrolling will be a tiny bit less smooth, but at least then the text won't shimmer and blur.

If any dev wants they can ask the gentle man turl here:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/661-m...7-exp-cyanogenmod-7-1-atrix-pre-beta-4-a.html
he said with a photon kernel and simple changes the CM7 for atrix should boot on Photon. Its very stable.
i know nothing about modding unfortunately, but he said:
'Anyway, it will need a bit of tweaking to get it started, like actually using a photon kernel and renaming the init file.'
'To boot it on a photon and be able to use sensors, ril, etc you will need to use a kernel built for photon. You can build one with the source code provided by Motorola.'
Can someone take a look into this, i feel we can have some CM7 build running quickly if someone comitts, the best i can do is form a bounty or donate, and im ready to do that to whoever leads this ship
porting cm7 is easy, takes files from one repo and git them in another repo....
but seriously guys if it was so easy as taking the atrix rom and mixing it with th ephoton kernel and 99.9% of everything worked out of the box, dont you think it would have been done? wimax, gps, mms, sms, voice, data, etc etc is all going to be controlled by the radio and as such even if the atrix cm7 got EVERYTHING else working, chances are most of you bought the photon to use/have one of the six things i just listed
I wouldn't mind seeing CM7 as long as I can use WiMax. I'm assuming Cyanogen would give us slightly better battery life since it doesn't have any Moto dependencies working in the background.

here is the problem with that, the evo had the first use of wimax and when they tried to get it in cyanogenmod they had to struggle for a long time (also offer a huge bounty). samsung phones, the epic and the nexus both have wimax in cm7 working flawlessly.. due to teh nexus being aosp. now here is motos first crack with wimax.. depending on how they did it,,, we may never see cyanogenmod with wimax

Rom Perfection

I think its time to change the theme of this post, as the original question has been answered.
New Topic-What do we need from Samsung to create the closest to perfect rom for this phone?
PM me if you want Samsung to give us what we need, so we can show them that its wanted.
Also you can hit my thanks button just because : )
and i quote
"because you touch yourself"

Do we have anyone over 3 in here?

Hey Bro
Well we need to promote creating a perfect 2.2.1 rom, because only then can we improve on GB and ICS!

...No that makes NO sense at all.
How would improving a 2.2 help with anything on GB or ICS?
Also no ROM can ever be perfect since our GPS is screwed and it works for some doesn't work for others.
Some ROMS 911 doesn't work.
There are issues that the developers just cannot fix without a bit of help from Samsung.

I agree...we also need Microsoft to create a perfect win98 before of giving us win7.
Theory
Listen the theory is to stabilize areas there where we already have degrees of stability will help us more easily figure out other problems. Its like playing minesweeper, you eventually get good and are able to beat the harder levels. Nothing is impossible even without the help of samsung. Have some faith in the skill of our developers here bros.
Although I see where you're coming from, but just know there's major updates in the way things work from 2.2(.1) -> 2.3 -> 4.0.
Honestly, devs have gotten really far with the bits and pieces we have.
We'll never have a perfect 2.2.1 or 2.3 or 4.0, why? Because devs can't pull correct drivers out of thin air, if Samsung or T-Mobile actually supported us, it'd be a hell of a lot easier.
So, honestly.. I dun know why you're saying we should perfect 2.2.1, it's outdated, it's old.. it's a completely different base than ICS, so that comparison doesn't work.
we never had a perfect donut rom either.....

You bring out very valid points. Here is what I believe about that, the vibrant itself runs best on 2.2.1, and while the others are fun they will always be laggy. I'm not says the devs are not doing good, these are very intelligent people. I just believe that we need to get the rom working at 100‰ and if we can't 99 ‰ not including the GPS. The GPS we can overlook but force closes and other things shouldn't be a part of it. I think that moving on without completion will create a bad habit. Its like not finishing building a house and moving to build the bigger one. I don't mean to argue, I just like healthy discussion. : )

Not sure which 2.2.1 rom you have been using but i never had a single issue on bi winning, in fact when i just need something good and reliable it's what i go back to
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yeah, and I completely agree, I dun think devs should release a million different ROMs with the same bugs. So, on that end, I agree with you. I'd rather have a million updates of one ROM than have a million half-ass working ROMs. But, I don't think we should leave it to only 2.2.1 ROMs, some are working on 2.2.1, others on 2.3, and others on 4.0.
I can agree with that, I think we need to find a way to get the devs to collaborate on all the levels so that we can get some sweet custom roms flowing through the forums.... and I think I have an idea.... : )

Completely disagree with you there. "Others are fun they will always be laggy."
I honestly don't know if you've ever tried any GB or ICS rom.
NONE of them are "laggy" sure they have their moments when you're running 50 apps and they lag, no ****, so does Froyo. Do you realize that a ICS rom (passion) has gotten GPS to work for nearly everyone? Froyo roms aren't even CLOSE to that. No one thats tech-savvy wants to stay on Froyo, froyo is last years OS, we all want ICS and thats what the devs like. They like challenges, and we like the outcome.
What I'M trying to say is.. why stay on a old-os when we have a new one thats available and we've already accomplished so much on it in such a short time (ex. GPS)
Well I have used them all my friend, and they are laggy no much how we deny it. So lets build this Tom house!

I suspect your phone has **** inside it.
Please open the cover and remove the battery and check for any signs of ****.
You must be in the denial stage of the whole thing.
ICS has absolute no lag when doing normal things and when it does lag, its because well.. this ics wasn't built from a vibrant source like froyo is.
Ask anyone.
You certainly have not tried ics passion.
If you did, make sure there's no **** in your phone.
Everyone who tried ics says its fast, and if they do leave its because of 911 issue or the phone mute unmute issue.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Ics has less lag than any froyo rom.
Well I guess well agree to disagree. There is no need to come up with some smart allic response with no real reasoning behind it just because you have a mouth. I'm just saying with this phone ics yes even ics passion lags, maybe not on the galaxy s 2, but with the vibrant it does. Maybe your right, that it wont lag when we get a vibrant build of ics. But for now, those are the facts. Thank you for your contribution though. : )

Amazed at the traffic neobuddy's ICS passion gets

I have never scene a forum in development get so many hits as neobuddys has. His ICS passion has almost 1 million views nearly surpassing cm7 forum that has been on here for ages. I also noticed he has only been on XDA since march, this is amazing to me. What are your thoughts on why his rom is so popular and receives so much traffic?
??? It's ICS for a 2+ year old phone...even the gs2 doesn't have ics...not to mention all the other phones that have come out since...not that shocking...
Yes it is true. ICS passion is amazing. I got my phone to passion V 10.6 version and it is amazing. Hats off to neobuddy and team.
This team is a class apart.

All I have to say is that it gave my Vibrant new life. Its an amazing ROM. I was planning to buy the S2 but this will do fine until my contract expires! I'm a happy camper, so much so that I'm gonna do the FFC mod, maybe I'll just give it to my bro when I do upgrade.
Neo's done a great job with ICS Passion. Where our Vibrants have usually been the ugly red headed stepchild of the SGS family, only getting hand-me downs from the I9000, Neo and Nelson have given us arguably that best ICS to date.
I'm running ICS Passion v11, so far it's smooth and lag free, great rom

It's developers like the ones we have here that make me even happier that I chose a Vibrant over a myTouch 3G... Boy, that would have been one big fat mistake had I chose the myTouch...
ICS
I too was ready to ditch my Vibrant for the SGS 2. Then I flashed this ROM thinking it would be pretty buggy, and to my amazement it is FLAWLESS! No need for the SGS2, it is still on 2.3! LOL! I will probably wait until the SGS3 gets released.
Oh, I ave to share this story. I was at our local mall yesterday and popped into the T MO store to look for a window mount for my car. Struck up a conversation with a rep, and the subject of how poorly the Vibrant performed when it was released came up, She said she had never heard so many complaints from customers, then I pulled out my Vibrant, showed her it was running ICS and her eyes got real big!
Neobuddy is the man! Thank him by sending him kind donations!

Why is this surprising? There are many talented devs all around the world.
its popular because it's ****ing amazing. it's absolutely insane how much progress they made with ics compared to how long it took to get a good gingerbread rom out when it was released.
I find it surprising that out of ALL the SGS, we the vibrant community who was left behind by samsung and weren't even meant to recieve official FROYO got the most stable ICS rom running on our phones haha.
ironic no?
in terms of hardware, which is much better the tmobile vibrant or samsung galaxy S I9000?

My thoughts as of late as well!
I agree... that ROM rocks. I'm so bummed because I'm having a hardware issue with the USB on my Vibrant and have to get a replacement.
This ROM is slick and so smooth and I felt like I had a new phone using it! I have a feeling whatever Asurian sends me - they promised a Vibrant but we'll see - won't be able to get running as good as my current one running ICS..

I hope Google starts releasing phones that are strictly controlled by Google... ie. They update them like apple products. I mean if you could by a phone straight from Google and they upgraded the android version every so often OTA... that'd be fantastic.
