[Q] USAA Mobile (Archos 32, no GPS) - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, has anyone been able to install the USAA mobile application onto their Archos 32? I think it requires a GPS (for mobile check depositing), but I would absolutely love to have the app. It fails during installation via Market or apk. Is it possible to force install the app as a root user?

Archos 70IT Unsucessful
I tried to install the USAA app on my Archos 70, and was not able to due to the fact that my Andriod device is not supported. My only suggestion is to email USAA support and ask for support on Archos devices...hopefully it comes soon!!

Would the Nook Tablet work outside the country?

Hi everyone, as you all may know its Christmas! Merry Christmas! Anyways, i want to buy a kindle or nook tablet for my aunt as a present but the thing is that she lives in South America. Would the nook tablet work there? I ask because maybe the market doesnt work because of the IPs, since Netflix doesnt work in south america due to different IPs.
Thanks in advance, and please be safe today!
The Kindle Fire (similar to Nook Tab) forum has more info on use outside of US. Check below threads:

For Netflix/Hulu/etc in particular, you need a proxy service. One mentioned is http://unblock-us.com. You may find others with http://google.com/search?q=netflix+outside+us.

I am living in Germany and am using a rooted Nook Tablet. Unlike the Kindle Fire, the NT will allow you access to the B&N marketplace from outside the U.S. If you root, you get full access to the android marketplace without any issues. Unfortunately, if you're getting this to run Hulu or Netflix don't. It won't work unless you use a proxy service or VPN which until now the NT just does not yet do. The same thing applies if you sideload the amazon app store, it doesn't work.
I'm hoping for vpn setup like normal android can do, but as of right now, its a no go.

With regard to accessing the BN marketplace, how do you work around the need for a US-based credit card?
I'm asking because the gf got one, but has been unable to purchase anything (although she can access and view the store). I rooted her NT and put Android Market on it, but it would be good if she could buy the ebooks from BN too.
Living in Luxembourg I had the same problems as you or your girlfrind with my nook color. To add my credit card, i first had to use a valid US billing adress, second: buy and use an electronic gift card from bn.com via paypal. After having used the full amount i was asked to add my creditcard (same as paypal), and don't ask me how, my bn.com account now allows me to use my luxemburgish creditcard. All purchases however have to be made via vpn (to get a us-ip), and as the devices Nook, Nook Color and Nook tablet don't let you use vpn (even if rooted), you either have to do your purchases via vpn on a computer, smartphone or vpn enables tablet. Simply start your vpn connection, check your ip (has to be identified as US) an do the purchases via the bn.com website). I recommand using vpn express(available through itunes app store and very inexpensive if you want to do your first tries with vpn connections)
However if you want to use your Nook as if you where located in the US, it gets rather complicated and to some degree "expensive". As the nook(s) don't let you configure vpn connections, you will need a wireless access point, so you can surf through a vpn tunneld wlan.
To do so I connected a second router to the second lanconnector on my win7 pc and connect to the internet via adapter 1, started the vpn service and shared the vpn connection with the second lanadapter linked to my access point.
This works perfectly well for me and as I upraded to purevpn (much faster than the initial vpnexpress connection), I now can watch netflix, hulu and do my app, magazine and bookpurchases from any of my nook devices. (as long as I have the PC running and vpn connection enabled.
If anyone needs a more detailed explanation of how it was done, don't be afraid to ask me.
Mine works very well, I did buy it Hawaii and now I came back to Mexico, I register my credit card (mexican) and can buy content from B&N store app, in Mexico I use a WRT Router with my VPN network configured wich has a San Francisco's IP, haven't tried with no VPN but I guess it should still work.

Touch OSC on the Rooted Nook Tablet

So I managed to root my Nook Tablet today, and now I am onto my next huge problem... getting touch OSC to work on the Nook Tablet and syncing it with Ableton. Touch OSC is an audio program that is synced with Ableton to control midi live on stage. My problem is that when I open the network option which is under settings, the program 'touch OSC' crashes. I am running my Nook on Honeycomb , the Android software - so my Nook should basically function like an Android Tablet... and I have no idea why the program is crashing. I rooted it the proper way via this site.
Anyone have any idea what to do next?
I can not find a solution for this on the internet ANYWHERE. In fact, Hexler is completely focused on questions for the iPhone and iPad, and any other thread about touch osc is for an android device.. however I am using a Nook with android device and I can not find any other instructions with this situation!

Two points: 1) this is Gingerbread, not Honeycomb. If the app is designed for Honeycomb, that may explain why it does not work. 2) even rooted with gapps installed, there are still parts of the Google framework that are not available (for example, Google Contacts does not work). There will be some apps that will not work.

[Q] ROM/Android update for Binatone HomeSurf Tablet 8?

Hello,
I have Binatone HomeSurf Tablet 8 (It's cheap tablet)
But it has Android version 1.6 and i want upgrade 1.6 to 2.1, but how? I have only USB cable not SD card.
There's no even Update option in Settings tab.
Model: S3C6410ZYOF
I can't access Google Play with that tablet, because it says that is unsupported device. How i can get rid of this?
Thanks.
For the most part you can't. This is a big problem with cheap products out of china aand other places. They don't have an agreement with Google so they get no support and no play store.

[Q] Is there a way to make an app work on my device?

Hi everyone. Quick question, is there an easy way to make a app that is unavailable for my model work? I have a Minix X7 android tv box and would like to access the SKyGO tv app on it. I think is is running android 4.4.2 from memory. The SKygo app at this stage looks to only be available for a handful of common devices in my country (NZ). I do notice however that it has recently worked on my Teclast X98 Air 3g with 4.4.4. OK.
The X7 is spoofed a a nexus 10 or something ( from when I flashed a rom a while back)
Thanks in advance for any ideas
I tried editing the build prop
With a couple of supported models and now the app comes up in Google play but shows as incompatible. Strange how the app is working on my teclast x98 air tablet when it's not meant to be compatible. Must be something else the sky go app looks for to be compatible.
In case the official app from the Play Store is marked as "unavailable" for your device, you can search for the apk-version, which is available for all devices. You can use this link for example to download it.
One note: this linked version is the German version, not sure, if you can change the language to whatever you want. If not, search for the apk for your country.

I have a archos 101 gen8 16gb it is about 5years old and has been in a cupboard for a couple of years it is running on the original software, I tried last night to put arctools on it via appslib but its coming up with a server error.

Well I'm late but what do you actually want to achieve with arctools, if you want to install play store then that doesn't seem to be possible anymore as when you login you get a mail with a report that a unsecure device (to today's standards) tried to login and wasn't allowed so the market can't even properly update to play store thus not allowing you to login. (which is pretty much a dumb fail loop)
Also I do not think kodi can run on 2.2, I think the old xbmc builds yes but I am pretty sure kodi has a 2.3 or 4.0 minimum version so you would still need to install either openaos gingerbread or cyanobiz.
On the other hand android 2.3 is also in the same boat with the market place but the good news is that you can just download the apk from the kodi website and sideload it (and IIRC kodi has an auto-update feature built in so you don't even need play store to update it but it will still be done manually).
On the other hand even if kodi would work on 2.2 I would strongly advise flashing SDE and the custom root kernel as kodi has many root only features that make it behave so much better than on a non-rooted device (on some devices without root some of the core features are in fact unavailable) also this would make it possible to overclock using the milestone overclock app which gives a huge boost to overall performance.
Hope this helps you out and feel free to ask any more questions.
EDIT: Seems like newer versions of kodi need android 4.2+ but I think you should be able to use 14.2 or 15 on 4.0+ (cyanobiz).
