[Q]About HTC Hero - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, people.
Recently i have brought an HTC Hero from ebay locked to 3. Using a unlock key i have unlock it and working great now. The phone is with android 2.1 and my question is. Since it came from 3 is there some difference in the ROM from the original HTC Hero non-lock ROM? And should i flash it with other ROM, lets say a custom ROM with 2.2 or 2.3?

Flashing a rom and rooting it will void your warranty so do it at your own risk and the way to get to stock is to have a sense rom then using running HTC sync then running the HTC hero ruin file to get it back to stock

Didn't understand a thing from what you write. Only i get the warranty advice, but i don't have to worry about that because the phone don't have warranty.

the rom from this 3 may contain some apk from your network.
and you can flash 2.2 2.3 if want and have root.

A Few Questions...

Hi, im thinking of buying a htc hero soon here in hk but i have a few questions mainly about rooting...
1)Does installing the recovery image mean that you have rooted the phone? or do i have to install a custom rom in order to have things such as tethering on my phone
2)Will the custom roms work with the carriers in hk?
3)Will running the original stock htc .exe updaters un-root my phone and replace the recovery image so it will look as if nothing has ever happened?
4)what are the radio roms on the modaco website?
thanks!

Stock rom flash

This may be a totally stupid question, but I can't find it in the Wiki or anywhere else.
What happens when I download the rom package from HTC and run their updater? Will this brick my phone, or will it work as normal but just lock SPL again?
My Raph is HardSPL'd, security unlocked and running custom rom and radio. I am getting a bit tired with all the instabilities, bugs and problems with custom roms and want to go back to htc stock for a while. The latest version which I want to use is not available on here as rom only, so I can only use the .exe package from HTC.
Thanks.

You can go to stock HTC without touching the security lock or the SPL ( unless you want to give back for warranty ).
You can get the latest Stock HTC ROM from HTC support website ( for your country ) its free.
It will change your radio as well.
It will not brick your phone.
If you plan to flash a custom ROM in future you should not touch the SPL and Unlock.
If you don't want to Flash Stocks any more read the tutorial in my signature by MSkip.
Follow the steps and you won't brick your phone.
You should have searched a little MORE before starting a new thread.

3UK will lock the Hero down.

Hi
I have rooted my 3UK HTC hero and running Hero21 community 1.7.
If the Hero gets an official upgrade to 2.1 then if I upgrade, 3UK will lock the Hero down.
I want the best of both worlds, I want to have the latest upgrade, but I don’t what the network provider
To lock it down.
Any help!
Hywel
What you mean exactly 3 will lock it down? I am also on 3 and are curious on what you mean.
official 3UK update
If you use the official 3UK update (on the HTC web site) you cannot root the phone with 3UK update 1.5
I can’t ... do you know different?
i think the official 2.1 will not allow the phone to be rooted anyway? So dont update if you want root until 2.1 is hacked
just dont update to the official 2.1 version....just wait for someone to come up with a custom 2.1 rom with htc hero driver and all....shouldnt take more than a day for dev to make one once the official version is released

How?
I have the latest 1.5 rom for 3UK on my Hero.
I've been reading that its difficult to root. Is there any special way to do this?
I hear the goldcard method is most successful, do I need to have an unlocked phone or can I just install a different rom?
If I goldcard the phone does that mean my current rom will be rooted or that I have to install a custom rom to allow root? Are there any rooted 3UK roms around?

Use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature. it gives all the information required to be able to flash custom ROMs with root access. You do not need a specific ROM for 3UK, just use any ROM you fancy, then re-install the 3UK stuff like MSN and SKYPE separately.

[Q] Unroot atrix, unlock bootloader, warranty

Hey guys I'm asking on behalf of my gf (i have htc sensation xe, so i'm not using lame excuses ) Her phone is not rooted (yet ) and I'm wondering whether is possible to unroot the atrix 4g so that it goes back to "brand new"/out of the factory status and there are no warranty problems related to the rooting.
Also: is it possible to flash a custom rom without unlocking the bootloader (so that warranty is not voided)? And does going s-off void the warranty as well?
Thanks in advance for the support!

and here http://atrix4ghacks.com/atrix-4g-hacks/how-to-backuprestore-roms-on-atrix-4g/
I seem to recall that it is possible to unroot your phone (but you'll have to look around here), when you do unlock the bootload an 'unlocked' appears on the left hand screen when the rom is loading.
Anyways, see how you go with reading the above guides
There is no way to flash a custom ROM without custom recovery, which needs an unlocked BL.
S-OFF does not exist on the Atrix.
