[Q] Where's a good place to start modding/developing ROMs?

I would like to start learning how to mod ROMs and eventually get into developing my own. After being a user for over a year I'd like to help a little myself eventually. I'm looking for a good place to start , kind of like an all in one tutorial if possible. I know a good amount of java (I took an AP computer science class at my school if that helps you get the idea of around where I'm at) and a little C. And I'm willing to learn more along the way as needed. I have a passion for doing this kind of stuff so hopefully it won't be too hard to learn. I'm willing to start anywhere and any guidance is much appreciated.
Check the developers thread a guide has been posted already

[Q] Resources for rooting, etc

I have been looking around xda for a while now trying to find what I am looking for, but with not much luck.
I am a budding programmer and I think its time for me to give back to the community that has helped me so much, from the destre to the, droid INC, the Droid charge and now the HTC rezound.
Where can i go to learn about the rooting process, kernel building, rom building, etc. I have found articles here and there, but nothing really specific enough to start any real work with. if anyone would be willing to take me under their wing and send me to the right place, I would appreciate it
Maybe the unrevoked dev team can point you in the right direction. @unrevoked.

there is a guide in the general section that covers this...why is it some folks want to start a guide this late in the game? the only reason i started mine back in august was alot of the links were broke and some of the information is dated in the stickies. i keep mine updated and everything is covered. if your looking for thanks, then refer folks to it and ill hit your thanks button.
wasnt tyin to start a guide or look for thanx...was just trying to help....some things are confuzing for some.
and thats why there is a guide in the general section with links and step by step instructions...if one thinks its confusing then they need to take a step back and do alot of reading before bricking there device. aside from that this thread is in the wrong section.
then i apologize. there is no doubt u guys r way smarter then myself. im not tryin to step on toes.

Honestly, if you're lost navigating a website, take it very slow customizing your phone. Its a lot harder than clicking links with a mouse, and a mistake will be VERY costly.
Don't rush in. Just be a lurker and a reader for a while, at least until you can find your way around and know some basic stuff. Good luck.
I have always found The Unlockr to have very simple and precise instructions. I am also a very visual person so I use YouTube a lot.
Anyway, take your time, root and enjoy and welcome to the asylum!

Im not dumb. I know about rooting a phone installing ROM. overclocking etc.. even if Im not the one who does it.. my stepdad doess, all he told me to do was find a good ROM I like... Its just hard finding my way around here because ill find certain threads; however, they only have few replies, or the thread is discontinued or something and I got a little lost.

WOW, "most thread only have a few replies?" ................REALLY?
I think you are looking n the wrong section. as suggested, "Super Everything Thread". you could also look in the Development section. there are threads where I have 100+ posts myself.
I am sure you are not dumb, but you are coming across a little on the lazy side. sounds like you want everyone else to do the work here. you originally posted 3 days ago and haven't found anything yet

Thank you very much Sir. This happened three days ago I have been searching for 63 hours. Found nothing definitive, which would tell me how to proceed. If at all possible could you link me to the required reading?
I read just enough to be dangerous
I have my phone rooted and unlocked thanks to this site and its many contributors. I was reading everything in sight. The mistakes I made was not reading deep into the info enough, I would arm myself with just enough info to be a danger to myself. All I had to do was continue. So thanks for all the reading materials and thanks to this site for being here.
Nice work reading, and working through it and troubleshooting. Trust me you will learn way more from doing it yourself than from having someone hand it all to you on a silver platter. This community is always more than willing to help you, but will be much more happy to do so if you've read. Glad you got your phone back working! Happy rooting/flashing/modding welcome to XDA
i watched youtube videos that walk you thru the whole process.
