x10a debrand? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my X10a back from repair, and upon putting start up it prompts me for a SIM unlock code. Does this just mean I need to debrand it? And if so, will installing a custom rom negate the need to do this? It's Rogers, but my carrier is ATT.
Tried running a search, but for the past hour at least search seems to have been disabled. And I couldn't find anything in the sticky about debranding

If u need to unlock it. Tru unlocking it at www.fastgsm.com
I have unlocked phones there before

thanks for the suggestion. But am I seriously going to have to pay 50 bucks to unlock the phone??! I've used it fine with no problems since release. Then, the phone breaks and I sent it into repair. I get it back after waiting for over a month, and I can't use the darn thing because I need to unlock SIM now? Very frustrating. I seriously don't want to have to shell out another 50 bucks just to use a phone I've been using with no problems for a year. Is there nothing else I can do?
I've rebranded, flashed to global generic. I'm hoping somehow that flashing to a custom rom will make the problem go away. I'm in the process of installing xrecovery now but having difficulties. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help

No not 50 its should b 20. 50 is everything combined i believe. Like unlock debrand and stuff. It should b $20

Eh - begin here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955703 has pretty much everything you need to know to get you well on your way

thanks guys, i've been following that guide so far. So far I've debranded, rooted, and am trying to install xrecovery to flash the wolfbreak rom. But, the xrecovery install didn't take so I'm sorting through that. Will flashing to a custom rom make the problem go away? the idea of having to pay extra for something I never needed to before aggravates me. Will if I have to, but only if there is no other option..

I use Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 Froyo - and have done for several weeks now.
Sometimes when I reboot my phone it locks down after entering my PIN-code.
Then I get a request for PIN-code to access the SIM-network.
I got two options, either enter the code (it's not my normal PIN) or "Permanent Lockdown" which sounds pretty horrible.
So I just remove the battery for a few seconds (you cant turn the phone off during this "SIM-lock") and it reboots just normally.
But I guess you already have tried that?

I hadn't tried that until now after you mentioned it. But, no dice. Doesn't work for me

well I managed to flash the wolfbreak rom, this still didn't solve the problem, unsurprisingly. But, it only lets me get so far into it before it reboots itself. It now says my phone is an x10i at the startup setup screen. I skip past that and get into android, don't get far before it just reboots. rinse and repeat. I tried reflashing as well, still same thing.
Nothing else seems to work, am I going to just have to bite the bullet and pay to unlock the SIM?

[Q] Flight mode won't turn off!! HELP!!

Hey, what's up. So, here's the problem.
1. I flashed Void, I didn't like.
2. I flashed the stock rom (froyo 2.2).
3. now airplane mode in "settings > wireless and network settings" won't turn off.
I've tried taking the battery out for 10 seconds and putting it back again to no avail.
Help please!!!! Now I can't make any calls or anything cuz I've got no connection anywhere!!
Reflash the stock ROM

wipe all. try to flash devoid its 2.2 but a lot better.
How did you flash stock ROM? By creating a KDZip(stockrom.zip) and then flashing it? Anyway try to wipe dalvik-cache via Recovery.
1. I've flashed the stock twice
2. I don't wanna go for another ROM at this stage. Getting an error when restoring, and not being able to restore, a nandroid backup is what landed me in this mess, and I'm not sure what other misleading information about Romming I've been fed.
3. Nah, I flashed the stock .DZ.
4. Would my service provider be able to format and reinstall android, or will I be looking at getting a new phone?? Cuz that would suck.

Well, if you keep restoring messed-up/corrupt/broken settings etc., no wonder flashing does not help. Wipe everything and flash a stock ROM, do not restore any broken mess. That is what your provider would do anyway, so no need to waste money.

I did flash shiny ROMs located on this forum over here. I spoke to LG and I have to call them back in a couple. They're gonna get the same phone and we're gonna walk the problem together.
Like 20 minutes or something later..
Yeah, so they said they don't know and I should take it to an MTN outlet. They're not very helpful on Sundays I think.. Gonna take it in tomorrow then
Oh yeah, and i would still like to know..
..if my service provider would be able to restore original Froyo 2.2.0 or if I should consider forking out for a new phone?? .. Or if by any chance LG could restore Froyo bearing in mind that I've flashed 2.2.1 stock and the phone has been un-rooted, or if they'll say hard luck??
Well, as I already said. You still have lingering junk there. Flight mode is not some miracle, it is simply a profile with WiFi/BT/2G+3G turned off. (What can be turned on in flight mode is set in an sqlite DB, so it is even possible to override it).
So, no matter what you have flashed or not, you did that incorrectly. Being unable to switch flight mode on/off does not come out of nowhere.
There is absolutely no need to buy a new phone, your problem is a software one, not a faulty HW. (For questions what LG will or will not do, ask them, not here.)

Thanks ^_^ You obviously know more about this than me, so how do you suggest I proceed if I wish to get back to stock Froyo like it was when I got the phone?? Should I take the phone in to service provider or something??

Well, if you are unable to restore the original ROM properly, then take it somewhere where they can. Does not necessarily have to be your service provider, any authorized LG service can do that, plus lots of unauthorized shops can do it as well (warranty is a different issue here, though.)
Anyway, before you take the phone somewhere - if you flashed something from the thread you mentioned, you probably have 2.2.0 or 2.2.1. Have you tried using LG PC Suite to upgrade the phone to latest version (should be 2.2.2 pretty much regardless the operator/country). Might get you proper flash as well.
Also, CWM recovery has Wipe All option which wipes everything except for recovery.
Thanks so much ^_^ I got a 2.2.1 *.DZ. I don't have the energy to struggle with that anymore so I it took to my service provider and the guy there ordered me a new phone. Awesome of him hey!! At the end of the day, phones were actually made to call, TXT, and tweet with, so I'm through flashing. Time for me to throw in the towel and show it some love just the way it is!!

Oh yeah, and I tried upgrading to 2.2.2.. No luck, it said I had the latest version already at 2.2.1. Doesn't make any sense right. And that's from the official LG updater thinggy.. Hey, how do I mark this thread as SOLVED??

Need Pro Help Here, HW Issues or SW issues with this Phone

OK, Heres the scenario, This is a replacement T-959 vibrant, sent from either TMO or Samsung, really not sure! My 1st phone never had any issues with modding, and always cooperated! Until I used KIES to update one day and It bricked, because of primary and SBL corruptions. [I know!!, found out 5 mins too late about using KIES] Anyway, since Ive had this replacement phone its done nothing but fight me from the start, never has acted right I think and I feel there's something wrong HW wise with it. My problem with it now, is it wont accept any other custom ROM I try to install, and only works with either 2.1 or 2.2 stock OEM ROM's. Meaning, Anything else ROM wise, It wont go past the last part of boot sequence, and just keeps looping, and does it over and over again! Ive tried all of Simple Honeys, Toxic 8's Roms, and each time it goes thru the loading successfully, and then starts it boot-up, but every single Flash Ive done, ROM wise, it hangs up and loops at the very last part of booting up. Ive come to realize now, it isn't the ROMS, but the phone " I THINK" Each time I tried a Custom ROM install, I started with stock fresh JFD install, and wiped and cleared out everything before starting another ROM install, but with each attempt that I try to go past anything other than Froyo stock, It does this boot loop problem at the final part!! It seems like who ever sent it to me, did something to the phone to prevent this. Modding it I mean. like right now I'm on Eugenes Froyo, with the 2E RECOVERY, It was working fine, until I upgraded the Eugenes kernel, which is suppose to work with this ROM, technically the phone still runs, but as soon as I did this, I now cant get into the two drives as mass storage to tranfer files, says insert disk, like as if its a CD Rom drive, WTF!! And like I said, this phone wont accept any other ROMS now, past stock Eclair or Froyo OEM and kernels as well. I don't understand what the problem is, My guess is they flashed something to prevent modding or its just a corrupted HW issue, anybody ever seen this before. I wish I had just JTAG'd my first phone with Josh over at Mobile Tech, and saved myself all this heartbreak and frustration, but its too late for that now! So anyway, I need to determine for sure if this phones screwed, HW wise or if there is SW to get this phone straighten out, to where it'll work right like my first one used to, and begin to accept custom ROM's like it should be able to do!! I'm at my last end with this phone, and I'm desperate to get a solid reason/answer for whats happening here, because Ive followed all the instructions and standard procedures to insure that all the attempted installs of the ROMS I mentioned go correctly. And its boiling down to either HW issues or a SW issue they created before they shipped it to me, or last but least hopefully a SW fix here, that can get the HW/phone to act right again, and maybe salvage this phone, otherwise I'm thinking I need to buy another brand new phone and hope for the best. I just don't want to be stuck and limited with Froyo stock, for the rest of my time using this phone, I want my freedom to choose again, like I had before, and also It ran so much better than OEM anyways!
Go back to stock using the sticky on the q&a then root using that same methOd and when you flash a custom room make sure you wipe dalvik and cache and delete user data

If you had picked up on it in my post, have already done this dozens of times!! Oh and BTW, when at JFD = 2.1 Eclair, it wont allow the 2 drives access to in Cabled USB mass storage, and therefore unable to CWM flash with zips, then I must go to 2.2 Froyo next to be able to get past that problem, but again when I go from there to any custom ROM, it fails to boot at the very end, and starts its looping. Again, the 1st phone I had, never ever, behaved like this!! Same phone but, different dates of manufacturing and also this one came from either Samsung or TMO in Plano,TX where that's all, they do is send out phones for replacement, and this one wasn't in a original box, something they worked on, grabbed off the shelf, and sent to me!! Its just a shame that 99% of all the ROMS are in zipped form, instead of TAR files, at least then I could've tried flashing some of them from, Eclair to see if that made a difference, but when they are zipped, you must use CWM recovery to flash, and thus again presents another problem as far as what I'm going thru here!
Got any thing else, Idea wise, that actually hasn't been tried yet, that makes sense??
OK, Ive made some progress, It seems for whatever stupid reason, that unlocking my phone, [jailbreaking] was the culprit of this phones renegade behavior, I simply restored it back to a locked status as a TMO provider, and Wholla, the phones now acting right!! And I have been able to get it to the ROM I wanted and flash a better kernel as well with 0 defects!!! And then I jailbroke it again, and its working flawlessly.
Personally I don't understand why that had a bearing on its behavior, but nun the less it did. And has cause me a few extra wrinkles around my eyes in stress trying to figure this out by myself, especially when all the suggestions and procedures I did was for nothing, until this phone was restored to a locked condition again!!
Go figure Right???? Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Anyway I hope mentioning this will prevent someone else in losing their hair or sanity!!
hello i think we have the problem, i also have openline my vibrant to be able to use here in our country.. i have 2.1 eclair, i just want to know what 2.2 ROM did you used coz you've said that it's ok to upgrade it to 2.2, but not other ROM, where did you get it.. can you pm me the link
thanks

[Q] "Error: Insufficent storage available on this device"

Alright so I've been trying to find amd actual solution to this problem all week. Every thread I've found on every site has only involved specific apps giving this error, or ones of a certain file size and higher.
It happened right after I was trying to flash CWM onto my phone so I could install CM9. After many futile attempts, I decided "f**k it" and just factory reset my phone. After I did that, I was going to try and redownload all my apps, naturally. It was then that I got the error message quoted in the title for every single app I tried to download. I said "Oh. Maybe I should try another factory reset". Tried it. Didn't work. "Okay, so maybe, I'll just unroot it by flashing a stock recovery image". Took an hour of my time (twice, by the way). You know what happened? That's right, you guessed it. Didn't work either.
The next day, I brought it to Best Buy, where I bought it. Sat there for half an hour, and the guy, just as perplexed as me as to how these obvious fix methods that should seriously have worked, but didn't, tried to fix my market problem.
So, my step before bringing it to the Sprint service center, is to ask the lovely XDA community, if you know what I can do.
I'm unrooted currently, in case you're wondering. And, as you may have guessed, there isn't an actual lack of space on either my internal memory or sd card.
Have you reflashed everything via rsdlite? couldn't tell if that's what you meant or not, if not I'd try that.

I actually got it to work again by finally figuring out how to get CM9 running. Now I just need to figure out how to reactivate my data again. I read that if I flash a ROM called Rocko ROM, I can activate my phone, and then reflash CM9. So I'll see how that works.

Rocko is a stock based ROM so you can use it(or any other stock based for that matter) to activate your phone while unlocked.

Hello. I have a photon that was rooted and unlocked and all that. The thing is it somehow got the newest Motorola update. The question i have is can i reroot it. I would love to be able to run a different OS than just the stock one. Can someone help me here or do i have a nice paperweight
yes you can re-root it using the torpedo method. but unfortunately no unlocking at this time

What he means is, you need to be unlocked to install a custom rom with custom kernel and you can no longer unlock. You have two rom options while still locked, but both are based off the blur you already have. You can still root, though.
from what I understand you can use boostrap recovery to install ROMs. i've yet to try it myself but others have used it

Only roms without a custom kernel assuming you are still locked while using it.

Yes I'm referring to your bootloader. The gsm lock you are referring to only exists in the united states.
thanks for the info guys, well i did get the phone rooted and super user restored, see the thing is the phone was flashed and programmed for page plus, its still running on page plus service but i had 2 problems one being the nag screen to activate the phone for sprint and its constantly in roaming, i called page plus and they say yeah that will happen and no i wont be charged for it, i would be all happy if i could get the roaming off, i did however get rid of the sprint activation by deleting a apk called SprintOMADM,apk. now im not totally sure i need that apk or not but its gone now and i have no nag screen to activate it, it still makes calls just fine but im not sure im totally getting all my incoming phone calls or any notifications for voice mail, any sugestions on how i might be able to get rid of some of this stuff, like i said it was flashed rooted and unlocked before, i did use when i first had it that remote squad software but now it says it cant even read the phone, i was also told by them its probably that awsome new update 2.35. thanks alot again for your responses and ill keep popping in and out of here to see more responses

What rom did you flash and what little application did you use to flash it with? You're probably not screwed, we just need a bit of information on what steps you took.

well when i got that awsome update 2.35 from my son clicking yes to it, i tried just about any roms to get the phone back, first it was the electrify rom which i later find out dumb mistake on my part, anyway now and i mean right now i flashed the phone with rsd lite using the electrify rom 1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.5-4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0-19-release-keys-signed-USC-US..... from there i rooted the phone using the torpedo method, then i installed busybox and i forget which method i used but anyway it was all done in fastboot, once i got all that installed i downloaded a apk file system recovery which is MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk. plugged in the charger and booted up the system recovery or the bootstrap which ever you call it, and went into advanced and did a dalvik wipe i even hit fix permissions, i then hit go back and did a data- factory clear wipe, then went into install zip from sd card and i first used MOF.2.3.5.ish,v1.4.zip and that installed fine the problems i had was sometimes when i would do that i would get failed to boot 2 screen but i just used the unbrick zip that i downloaded here if anyone wants the name or link let me know, anyway.. once booted up with the MOF ish zip it would load fine but wouldnt save any settings or find any APNs or connect to any wireless networks in my house, but the wireless problem was clear it said error on it, so i knew the problem on that was it wasnt working derr. So this story is getting long now. anyway i then rebooted and turned on the bootstrap slash system recovery utility, and i installed first 2.3.x_libmoto_ril.so_198_7.zip and it aborted the install and failed. i then tried the next one in line which was 2.3.x_libmoto_ril.so_254_12.zip and that one installed fine so i rebooted and i got the failed to boot 2 screen and i did the unbrick sbf file on rsd lite and it booted fine, though still no saving of the settings and no wifi no cell service and no text or anything, I kept RSD lite open and i tried one more thing, 2.3.5sv2_198_7_radio.sbf and flashed it, the wifi for the house started working and i started getting bars on my cell service yay, well atleast i thought yay this is after weeks of not having a cell. well i thought all is well im done and fixed. NOPE im not fixed when i try and dial a number or even activate my phone i get nothing, no dial buzzing sounds like you get normally, no any kinds of sounds the call eventually times out and says called failed retry or cancel the call, i hit retry and i get the same thing. i even tried flashing the radio to 2.3.5sv2_254_12_radio. when i used that one it would save settings but i wouldnt get any cell signal or anything. so im back to square one. I need help. this phone is about 2 steps of getting thrown out the window. I just strated working again and i need this phone to call back customers and i cant afford a regular carrier so im on pageplus the phone was originally flashed through remote squad and worked great until i let my youngest son play a SNES emulator on it and it exited out of the program for some reason and it wanted to do the system update and he hit yes and it installed and screwed up everything. All i want now is to get the phone back to somewhat normal, I can use RSD lite, CDMA workshop, QPST, DFS 4.0.0.5 and a couple others if need be i can download anything i just need to be told what files i need and what i dont need to get the phone back to normal, cuz if i dont get this phone back to normal im just going to not get another pageplus card and throw the phone away and ill be back to not being able to work. thanks to all that has responded to the post here i really do apreciate the time you all have taken to help. sorry it took so long to get back to any of you here but i still need urgent help here badly please and thank you for your time to read this i hope i gave you all the info you needed to help me

Wow - just Wow. Unreadable. You are truly fortunate that someone actually read that and offered advice.
yes it was a long post, yes it was all jumbled together, anyway i did all the stuff recccommended and it works. the only problem im having now is, its still not lockig onto the right cell tower or something here where i live.
I Have tried Remote Squads Full Flash and other ways of manually programming it and for some reason I cannot get it to lock onto verizon towers, its like it has me permenantly locked onto sprint. when i drive down the road about 8 miles or so i can go down at the sheetz in my area and I get locked onto a verizon tower there but as soon as i move from that area I lose it and it goes back to sprint towers, I talked with Pageplus and they told me some stuff about what SID and NID i should have in but im not sure if the info was correct they told me they didnt know pennsylvavnia all that good but here is some numbers to try .. im about to melt this thing
Try roam control.

[Q] Thunderbolt Unlocked & Rooted

I've really looked and looked for a solution to this but haven't found anything yet...
I'm using my Thunderbolt in Mexico with a local carrier (IUSACELL) meaning, somehow it was unlocked.
I say somehow as I just paid for it and really don't know how it was done...
after that I rooted my TB with the All in One method provided by trter10 about a month ago,
now that I'm getting to play around with the phone I want to try a custom ROM for it
but as I understand it I would need to do a data wipe, my question is...
If I do the data wipe will my phone "relock" as in return to Verizon settings???
so if anyone could help, I would really much appreciate it...

When you install a custom ROM for the first time, it will totally erase all the information on the phone, even the OS itself.
Before you do install a custom ROM, I recommend doing a FULL backup of your phone in whatever custom recovery you are using that way you can always come back to what you have now.
Good luck with your new Thunderbolt, it is a good phone.
