[Q] Alternative sync software - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd be interested to know what programs people are using to sync the Streak with PC. The Dell/Nero software is hardly elegant! Have people discovered better alternatives?

There is a whole website dedicated to this exact issue at http://syncdroid.net/

Great site. Very helpful. Many thanks indeed.

Missing Sync - oo-err!

Ello All,
I have given in and bought 'The Missing Sync' in the hope that I will be able to sync my XDA II with my Apple G5.
So far, no luck!
I have installed the software and gone through every possible troubleshooting tip on the net. It doesn't do a thing. It is supposed to open the software when the XDA is placed in it's crade, but no joy. Nothing.
Anyone got any ideas? E-mail support from Mark/Space is apparently really carp!
Cheers in advance guys,

Easy way to sync contacts between Thunderbird and WM devices?

If this has already been discussed, point me in the right direction please, I searched but didn't find anything.
So is there a (free, preferably) way to sync contacts between Thunderbird and my Titan? This would be a tremendous help to me!
-Randy
PS - Looked into Plaxo, didn't seem too seamless.
I've looked into this as well....if it helps to know, I went back to using Outlook...

givin it a try now... we'll see what happens...
thanks for the link!
Here's the situation: program looks good, but I'm using this at work on a corporate network that I do not have access to router settings to open a port. So, I cannot use this program unfortunately. Unless you know a way to bypass using a port over the internet.
Any other program suggestions?
I know everybody hates outlook... someone has to have an easy way to sync to Thunderbird

quick google search produced this link:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/02/26/how-to-sync-your-pocket-pc-with-thunderbird-mobile-minute/
Provides info on two possible programs:
Birdiesync
FinchSync (which we already discussed)
Birdiesync, unfortunately is commercial
I'm going give finchsync a try right now
EDIT: reading the link I provided, it appears as if you dont need to access the router at all - you may need to guess a few times until you find a port thats not in use
EDIT 2: Just tried finchsync. Its a little tricky to set-up, but if you follow the directions outlined in the link I provided above, it isnt that bad. Synced my contacts in less than 15 seconds.

Not too bad! Only problem is that it doesnt know how to properly handle multiple info for one particular contact. For example, if you have a contact with multiple email addresses, finchsync will import each address as a separate contact. Clutters up the address book on the phone.
I'm going to suck it up and continue to use outlook...for now...

I'm going to fix my earlier post--TB doesnt know how to properly handle importing outlook contacts. Its an issue on TB end which caused TB to separate contact information so that I have like 2-3 of the same contacts, but with different data in each one.
If you fix all of TB's contacts (or dont import from outlook), finchsync will sync to the pda properly.

thanks for the effort, it just isn't seamless enough for me. i have to be able to connect my phone via USB, press sync and be done with it.
I'm pretty well versed in computers, and have no problem figuring out finchsync, it just isn't practical. i have over 300 contact in outlook too, and most of them have multiple emails, addresses, and contact phone number, it would take forever fixing them once imported to Thunderbird.
thanks though! i'll just have to wait for someone to make a plug-in for thunderbird that makes it "push-button" easy.
makes you wonder about the Staples Easy Button lol
If it is any consolation...I use birdiesync, and it works pretty good.
Thunderbird 3.0 is progressing along in dev, so maybe there will be better functionality going forward.
Post some message on David Ascher's blog for an enhancement request, and maybe it could become a higher priority. Or better jump in with both feet on open source product dev...it sounds like they need the free help.
If the dollar wasn't so down on its luck then birdiesync might not be such a bad deal.
Maybe you can lobby gc14, dcd, and all the other allstars here to work on Thunderbird while everyone waits for the newest thing in the cell phone world.
Can someone say "Creedence Clearwater Thread Revival?"
My two cents(or buck n' a half)
1. Thunderbird - WOW I absolutely LOVE it. HOWEVER their is one little thing that REALLY chaps my ass with it and thats syncing contacts throughout multiple computers. I've done so much googling on the subject you can't see the letters on my keys for "s-y-n-c t-h-u-n-d-e-r-b-i-r-d"
If someone has a good solution for a contact book that can sync BOTH TB and PDA's by all means throw it up here and lets get down to business.
2. Seems this little issue has trickled down to the pda world as well.
3. I'm looking for a TRUE SYNC! NOT a thunderbird workaround replacing the contacts file. Does birdie or Finch do that with the Titan/Mogul?

[Q] Windows Live / MSN Messenger Support?

I know there's some lengthy workaround to the lack of live/msn support on the Touchpad, but it also seems pretty buggy. Is there a plugin available or client app at all?
Thanks!
I dont have a touchpad yet but if nothing else works you could a web app for it.
For example: http://imo.im

are you talking about the Jabber workaround? If my Gtalk worked I would use it.
The imo site it cool thanks LP.
[Q] Windows live messenger/MSN client or compatability
The default instant messenger client on the touchpad doesn't presently support WLM/MSN. Does anyone know of any plans to create a dedicated app or a plug in for the stock IM application?
I was going to ask the same thing. Seems like search isnt working, but someone mentioned there is hack to get it working. Just wish search was up! grr
Please make sure that you check the forums before creating new threads. I can understand it can be difficult if the forum has run into 100's of pages, but this is just about 4 pages. There is no excuse to not search or to just simply browse.
Please read the rules and new Iron Fist Operation before posting in the forums.

seems a bit much for what its worth, but if youve got some free time
If nothing else works you could try install an msn program from UbuntuChroot?
[Q] can you get msn messenger on the touchpad ?
I see the likes of google, aol etc are there, but the most popular one isn't ?
anyway of adding msn messenger to the hp touchpad ?
the only way ive seen is to use the jabber work around, just google 'jabber touchpad' and it will come up, but you need linux to make it work it seems :/ other than that you could always just use ebuddy from the browser doesnt seem to have any discernible lag
Yeah the chat program is a little lame...no MSN or Facebook chat...and the facebook app doesn't include the chat feature...so have to use plain web browser.
Any update on this? I really need/require msn/windows live messenger support
There is a way to do it, when I have a little time I'll see if I can find the site with instructions.

Kind of a [Q] / A better twitter app.

Okay I use twitter a lot and have around 39,000 followers and it makes it hard to keep up with everything. So I use listing to track important things, on iOS I used an app called Twitbird, and it keeps track of lists and searches in a similar way to an rss reader, and shows the number of updates per list along with mentions etc. Also when you enter the list it starts at the exact point you left off at so there's no wasted time scrolling through hundreds of updates just to scroll back up.
Now I have not been able to find an app like this for Android anywhere! So is there any that exist? How hard would it be to create one? Or am I pretty out of luck and will have to keep whipping out the old Iphone?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum I'm rather new here.
Did you try tweetdeck? It does support lists.

Yes I did try tweetdeck but it doesn't support lists in the same manner of tracking how many tweets have been added to the list and it doesn't start you where you left off reading. It's very frustrating not being able to keep track of my twitter without the old Iphone, its inferior in every other way. There are is also another app that I used to use called "echofon" which didn't have the features I loved from Twitbird but it informed you of any mentions when your tweets where re-tweeted or favorited so when I paired the two together it was great.
I've tried adding my lists to a rss like Google Reader but twitter makes sure that's close to impossible -_-
Ok. I tried some apps, but none of them supports the functions you are looking for. Lists yes, but nothing else.
But since I read your first post...I have to say that I would like to have those features too as Im using twitter mainly for news.
So if you find something, please come back here and tell me about

[Q] Is there a Twitter equivalent of Haxsync?

This is something that has been bothering me for quite a while and couldn't seem to find anything in the Play Store.
When the whole Facebook/Google API contact sync issue wasn't being worked out, many developers came up with solutions to the issue and released them in the Play Store. Yet when Twitter contact sync stopped working and was removed from newer versions, no developers tried to fix this themselves.
So here is my question: Are there any apps out there that does what I'm asking? If not, is there anything being worked on to fix this? Thanks!

I actually have a proof-of concept version based on the HaxSync codebase lying around here. Unfortunately, Twitter has harsh API limits that make contact sync pretty difficult. Their API rules are also much stricter than those of FB and I'm not a lawyer, so I haven't really bothered finding out if I'm even allowed to make HaxSync-Twitter.
